lake michigan and my hometown. maura, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, guys. here in chicago, folks are expected to take full advantage of the sun, but across the country, others are prepping for severe weather. all as millions are set to travel for the holiday weekend. the sun rising this morning ready for summer fun. >> everybody is thawing. >> chicago is the place to be. you can't go anywhere else. all summer long at the beach. >> reporter: an easy commute for the city dwellers, but it is a different picture across the country. aaa predicts 44 million people will catch a flight or hitted roads making it the busiest in the last 20 years. a vast majority of them planning to drive. >> i'm used to traffic. >> reporter: the national average price of gas is $3.60 a gallon. down 6 cents from last month,

that. if you live in this area or you will be out and about in this area, this is where you want to watch for the strongest tornadoes to develop. we have a flood risk today with hourly rainfall rates of 2 inches. we will pick up a good amount of rain in the region. tomorrow, we see a larger area with 42 million people for the severe weather. indianapolis and lexington and nashville included in that. by the time we get to monday afternoon, the east coast is on top far the severe weather. >> thank you, angie. now to former president trump whose criminal criminal will go to the jury next week. in florida, prosecutors asking a federal judge there to place a gag order on him arguing the false claims of law enforcement are dangerous. julie tsirkin is in washington with the story. >> reporter: good morning. this request is the first in the case and it comes after the former president has criticized the fbi who searched and seized

hundreds of classified documents at the mar-a-lago two summers ago an. mr. trump took issue with the standard policy the fbi has in place for searches. it limits the use of deadly force. mr. trump insinuated that mr. biden ordered an assassination in the search. merrick garland is pushing back on trump saying the same policy was followed with the search of biden's home for classified documents. prosecutors writing the mischaracterization has endangered law enforcement officers involved in the investigation and threatened the integrity of the proceedings. the date for the trial has not been set yet. >> of course, julie, that is indefinitely on hold. one that is going forward is hunter biden's gun trial. what are you learning? >> reporter: hunter biden took

part in the last pre-trial hearing before the case takes place in delaware. you remember the president's son pleaded not guilty. the judge overseeing his trial ruled on what is and is not evidence. they are not allowed to reference the other legal troubles, including the tax trials or the child support or the discharges from the navy. laura, they will be able to talk about the drug addiction and use portions from the memoir. laura. >> thank you. now to the war in gza and the international court to order the stop of the invasion of rafah. it all comes as egypt agrees to send humanitarian trucks in

gaza. we have the latest. >> reporter: to hop the rafah closing and to allow in humanitarian aid and order israel to provide access to the enclave to determine if israel is committing genocide in gaza. israel is showing no signs they are willing to comply with the stopping of the offensive. we have seen air strikes. the israeli government released a statement on friday saying they embarked on a just defensive war following the attacks on october 7th and acting to reduce as much harm to civilians. there is no way for the court to enforce it. this is a blow to the israel international standing and adds more pressure to prime minister

benjamin netanyahu. it adds a week where three european countries will recognize the palestinian state. some hope in sight for palestinians as another humanitarian crossing is reopening to allow fuel and aid to enter into gaza. peter. >> it comes a day after the forces recovered the bodies of three more hostages in northern gaza. megan, the negotiations for the cease-fire for the release of hostages hit a dead end. where do they stand? >> reporter: the cia director bill burns is meeting with israel's agency in paris. the hope is to try to revive the negotiations for a truce and secure the release of the remaining hostages. >> meagan fitzgerald with the latest. thank you. now to a tragic story from

for a lot of people are hitting the road this memorial day holiday weekend, and so too is the california highway patrol.

the statewide maximum enforcement period went into effect yesterday and is in effect until late monday night. you can expect to see extra chp officers on patrol. last memorial day weekend, the chp made more than 1100 dui arrests. that's roughly an arrest every four minutes in the south bay. a deadly start to the holiday weekend. a big rig truck and a honda sedan crashing head on. the chp is asking anyone who may have seen the crash to come forward. it happened just after 11 yesterday morning on southbound 101 in san jose, near blossom hill road. investigators say a 22 year old driver of the honda was going the wrong way north in the southbound lanes, hitting that big rig head on. the driver, a san jose man, died at the scene. the big rig driver from los banos was not injured. we're going to turn now to the holiday weekend forecast. and

cinthia pimentel with a quick look at our microclimate forecast. hey cynthia. good morning kira. good morning everyone. well you can see behind me. we're off to a bit of a gloomy start. even some drizzle out there towards the coastline. san francisco city skyline just socked in in that early morning fog, and we're waking up to temperatures in the low 50s. it's cooler as you drive up into the north bay. santa rosa at 49, with, again, those gloomy skies kind of making it hard to get the day started. but there will be more sunshine ahead as we go on into san jose. also, that low deck cloud cover right there, but a bit milder at 58 to start our day down here in the south bay. i just want you to watch for those changes in visibility, especially as we go up into parts of the peninsula san carlos, down to about eight miles, half moon bay definitely socked in that fog at about three miles. and also parts of santa rosa as we go throughout the morning. that may. gray, that term, you've heard me say before, is going to stick around . actually be a little bit more stubborn to mix out of here to give us that afternoon sunshine parts that we'll see at first

temperatures across the south. we have the heat on over the next couple days. this is the look at today. high 90s in san antonio. low 90s in dallas and atlanta in the 80s. it will be uncomfortable and record-breaking in spots. particularly southern texas and florida with the records challenged. as far as tomorrow goes, more of the same for that region as you go up to the midwest with the low 80s. still warm this time of year. impressive with triple digits. finding a cool spot is important. as we get into next week, rolling back into the next workweek, things moderate out. we get back to typical temperatures in the 70s on monday and tuesday in cincinnati to the low 70s on wednesday. new york takes a dip here on the 70s

joining us on this saturday, may 25th, i'm kira klapper. a lot of people hitting the road this memorial day holiday weekend and so too is the california highway patrol, the statewide maximum enforcement period went into effect yesterday and goes until late monday night. you should expect to see extra chp officers on patrol last memorial day weekend. the chp made more than 100 dui arrests. that's an arrest for roughly every four minutes in the south bay. it was a deadly start to the holiday weekend. a big rig truck and a honda sedan crashing head on the
