san francisco's busiest streets has some major potholes. the emergency work getting underway this morning and what commuters need to know. this is today in the bay good wednesday morning. thanks for making us a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington, i'm laura garcia, so let's start this morning with the breaking news that we've been following for you. it's shaping up to be a hectic morning commute, at least in the south bay. a big rig overturned on a critical connector ramp and the cleanup may take some time. today in the bay's bob redell live there at the scene. so, bob, this is where one on one meets 880 heading north in san jose, right? correct. good morning to marcus and laura. overnight, this big rig you can see behind me was loaded with strawberries. it overturned when the driver lost control. he's fine. but this happened on an northbound 101 connector to southbound 880, which is shut down. and because of the spillover to the other lane, the south northbound 880 connector

to northbound 101 is also shut down. the issue is they're trying to get this big rig uprighted. the wrecker thought maybe they could do it by using the cables, but there's just too much weight in there. at least 40,000 pounds of strawberries. so as you can see, what they're going to have to do is they're going to have to offload the strawberries. that's going to take some time. then they'll get this big rig upright. i also spoke with caltrans. the barrels of sand that are on the center divide at the gore point there when you're, you know, driving those spilled. so they've got to refill those. so there's a bunch of things that have to happen before they reopen this. there is no estimated time of reopening. chp said it probably at least an hour caltrans indicate it could be longer than that. so again, this is going to impact people who are driving northbound 101 who are trying to get to 880 to the southbound direction. and of course, people going northbound, 880 trying to get to northbound 101. again, both connector ramps are shut

down and it could be at least an hour if not longer, before these are reopened. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell today in the bay. all right, bob, thanks. all right, so let's head over to mike inouye. he's been watching this as well. it's been a problem all morning long. they've got a lot of cleanup to do out there. to how the workarounds looking, you know, the workarounds are moving well in fact. so north 101 this is farther south just north of our camera shot. things are getting really congested. i think some folks may have already started to reroute, given the fact that we've been covering it since the beginning of our broadcast. actually, before our broadcast. so here's where our camera is. you see the green sensors north 101 just north of that six 8280 interchange. you saw overhead, folks i believe are taking 680 north to get around the scene, perhaps joining up and cutting over auto mall or mission boulevard if they're taking 880 through the east bay, if you're taking 101, you can take 280 itself to downtown, take 87 north past the airport, and it's still not showing any slowing yet 101 is the only slowdown we

have unusually slow in the early drive, but right now it's about standard because this connector continues to be closed. that bob was talking about north 101 to north 880 continues to be closed until they can clear that rig, and that won't be for a while. you saw them offloading all the strawberries. no injuries, just a major headache for traffic in the south bay carry. fortunately, it's not raining down there. that would make it worse. yeah, it's all clear. we have a lot of sunshine. walnut creek waking up to a sunny sky and it's going to be warmer today. going from upper 50s at 8:00 to a noontime temperature of 76 and low 80s for the rest of the day. now you're going to notice that warm up that begins today, but it really ramps up tomorrow into friday. we're looking at highs for this afternoon up to 83 in napa, 77 in oakland. mountain view will be a high of 78 degrees there and upper 60s for san francisco. so we'll take a look at the rest of the week's forecast coming up in a few minutes. laura. marcus. thanks, carrie. well, new developments this morning out of the middle east, where israeli

leaders are now saying that there's a new cease fire proposal on the table, a government insider telling nbc israel submitted the new proposal to mediators monday. it offers what's described as a sustainable calm, but not a complete end to the war as demanded by hamas. hamas leaders tell nbc that there is no new proposal. meanwhile israeli forces are moving for the first time into rafah city center. it comes after a weekend airstrike that killed dozens of palestinians in a refugee camp. well, developing right now, just south of the bay area, there is a manhunt underway for an escaped inmate. deputies say danielle lopez zavala escaped a little more than 24 hours ago from san benito county jail in hollister. the jail staff saw him jumping a barbed wire fence. some of his jail garb was later found discovered in an open field. it is believed he may have left the area by car. the sheriff calls him a known gang member with an extensive criminal history, who had not

yet been sentenced for his latest crime. we don't have any reason to believe that he's going to go do anything specific in this community other than try to get away from it, the sheriff also blames the escape on a lack of staffing. he says he lacks the manpower to properly oversee video surveillance, and his team could not set up a perimeter after that escape. taking a live look in redwood city courthouse, where happening today, scott peterson's legal team resumes their attempt to win him a new criminal trial. peterson will appear virtually. he's now confined at mule creek state prison near sacramento, serving a life sentence in prison for the murder of his wife, laci, and their unborn son, connor. attorneys for la's innocence project, filed motions requesting new dna evidence on evidence that was gathered during the murder investigation. that includes a mattress found inside a burned out van near the peterson's home. our ginger conejero saab. following the latest developments, she'll join us with a live report in our next half hour. well, a live

look for you this morning in new york city this is the manhattan federal courthouse, where jury deliberations are now set to begin in donald trump's historic hush money trial. now, jurors will have to weigh if he orchestrated a criminal conspiracy designed to influence the 2016 presidential election. today, in the bay's brie jackson live for us in washington this morning. and bree, do we know how soon those deliberations will get underway? good morning marcus. so they are expected to possibly start later this afternoon. what we do know is first, about an hour from now, judge juan merchan plans to spend some time giving jurors their instructions and then after that, deliberations are set to begin. did former president trump falsify business records in alleged hush money payments to adult film actress stormy daniels? is the question jurors will consider during closing arguments. the defense placed the blame on former trump

attorney michael cohen, calling him the gloat the greatest liar of all time. if michael cohen is the mvp of liars, then donald trump was coach of the year. prosecutors argue former president trump orchestrated a criminal conspiracy to influence the 2016 election. he denies any wrongdoing. a lot of people are going to be very upset, but this is all election hunting election interfering for the first time, the biden campaign spoke outside the courthouse, sending a dire warning to voters of the unique, persistent and growing threat that donald trump poses to the american people and to our democracy, a concern echoed by actor robert de niro. he appeared in an ad for president biden and was joined by officers who helped protect the u.s. capitol on january 6th. i love this city. i don't want to destroy it. donald trump wants to destroy not only the city, but the country. and eventually he could destroy the world.

trump's supporters blasted his political opponents and the cases against him. they're making a political mockery of this entire thing. there are real problems in america, and you are all out here covering this because joe biden is weak. he's pathetic. it will be up to a jury to decide trump's fate. and during jury deliberations, jurors will discuss the 34 counts of falsifying business records facing former president trump. marcus. all right. a lot to follow there. brie jackson in washington, brie. thank you. and trump is coming to the bay area soon in search of big money. he's scheduled to be in san francisco thursday, june six. he's set to attend a fundraiser held by cohost of the all in podcast. tickets start at $50,000, and vice president kamala harris also fundraising stops here in the bay area planned. two are scheduled for a week from today. one is at a

large venue near manny's in san francisco's mission district. tickets range from 500 to $25,000. the vice president will also attend a second event in oakland, sponsored by a prominent indian american lawyer. happening today heads up for drivers moving through san francisco's sunset district live. look at northbound 19th avenue and starting at 9:00 this morning, the normally busy street will be closed between sloat and taraval. the closure ends at 3:00 in the afternoon, but the same closure will be in effect tomorrow and friday. crews will be working on potholes and repaving and starting next week they'll be doing restriping, which will likely bring more lane closures. but in the end, run a lot smoother. smooth indeed. all right, let's take a live look out. smooth start to the morning there. meteorologist kari hall is looking at what we can expect. walnut creek here looking beautiful. look, it seems like throughout the bay area. it's a beautiful start. not no fog or anything like that. no fog whatsoever. but you

know what that means. what? it's warming up quickly. yes it's going to be warmer this afternoon. we don't have that protective marine layer that keeps our temperatures from heating up very quickly throughout the morning into the afternoon. and the warmest days of the week will be tomorrow and friday. and as we go into early june, we'll have some summer like heat cranking up. but at least we do have the nice cool start to our day. we're in the mid to upper 50s right now with the light wind and sunshine in san jose. we're going to already be at 70 degrees at 11:00, and we're headed for the upper 70s today. not bad. it's not going to also be as windy as it was yesterday. so we'll talk more about our changes in the forecast coming up. mike's been trying to find us some lower gas prices. i have been looking at what everybody else is telling me. we can do that with gasbuddy.com. you can check as well. today's best in hayward. 449 at abe on mission boulevard. santa clara's best is platinum gas in the middle here for 59. the one on washington street is

believe the stock market is down for the year. dow, nasdaq, s&p 500 have all hit new records recently. melinda gates says she'll contribute $1 billion to protect women's rights. her announcement comes about two weeks after she said she was stepping down from the bill and melinda gates foundation. she's going to give money to help protect women's economic security, voting rights and abortion rights. in a new york times op ed, gates said, quote, as shocking as it is to contemplate my one year old granddaughter may grow up with fewer rights than i had. spacex launched a rocket out of southern california that will put a new satellite into orbit to monitor the environment. this is the seventh time spacex has used this very rocket booster. remember they're reusable. meantime its competitor boeing continues to have all kinds of problems with its starliner rocket that will carry astronauts into space. remember, spacex sends astronauts into space all the time. boeing have

a devil of a time getting its rocket right. they've had delay after delay trying to hunt down a helium leak. and then just this week, boeing said, you know what? let's go. anyway, they didn't find the cause of the leak, but they're going anyway. its first manned mission is scheduled for saturday. now, as you see, they have launched this rocket twice before. first time didn't go well at all. second time with a dummy astronaut in it. it went fine. okay. so we are going to put two people in that capsule on saturday. you know, if everything holds to schedule, boeing probably not, and the best of luck to them okay. yeah. best of luck. all right. thanks, scott. well, new at six. scientists at ucsf have now developed the first bilingual brain implant using artificial intelligence to help a stroke survivor communicate in spanish and english. the patient is named pancho. he became severely paralyzed as a result

hit the low 90s. and then moving ahead, it looks like we're going to see another spike in temperatures for early june. so we'll get a look at that. we're enjoying a mild day san francisco and time for the giants game early in the afternoon. we'll start out in the upper 60s. a breezy wind and it does stay and very nice and sunny throughout the game. here's a look at our high temperature. so it's just a little warmer than it was yesterday. not bad though. we're up to 82 in san jose and 80 in cupertino. it won't be as windy as yesterday, but you will still get a breeze this evening in antioch. we're headed for a high of 8784 in livermore and 77 in hayward, as well as oakland. it'll also be in the upper 70s for redwood city, san mateo, 71 degrees, and san francisco up to 72. in the mission district, the outer sunset at a comfortable 69 degrees and upper 70s for mill valley will be in the mid 80s for much of the rest of the north bay. and then looking ahead, we are going to see a storm system moving into the

pacific northwest. it gets so close, maybe even a little bit of some north bay rain early next week and that will help cool us off. but shortly after that we're going to see high pressure quickly building and ramping up the temperatures. this shows the climate prediction center's outlook for next week, and it does show well above normal temperatures all across the west. so we'll be bracing for that once again going into our first week of june. and our temperatures coming up to about 90 for the warmest inland spots tomorrow, but then cooling down to the low 80s for the weekend. mike still going on with that closure in san jose. yeah, because this is still going on it's side. the big rig there in the middle of the screen. there's they have to offload all the strawberries that are the payload there. and then they can stand it up. you see the sort of crane like tow truck over on the side. there's another truck there ready to take, i believe, ready to take those strawberries. there were up to 40,000 pounds of strawberry as payload that you can't lift the truck with it inside there, the trailer, we're

the year for air travel, but this year's arrival is also coming with some added trepidation. recent incidents of severe turbulence raising some anxiety among travelers. the facts bear it out. researchers say climate change is leading to an estimated 20% increase in jet stream disruptions during an air safety gathering last night in san francisco, two bay area

travel experts explained the phenomenon and concerns about airplane reliability. hetty. there is the thought that we're going to see more and more severe turbulence like that just because of the jet stream is essentially getting supercharged by climate change. and this increase in temperatures that we're seeing, people are anxious about the 737 max. and that's where i hear it the most. they are just concerned about that plane safety. still of course, when it comes to turbulence, the best advice is still keep that seatbelt on. experts also say new technology may soon allow pilots to better detect clear air turbulence. the primary culprit for the most severe cases. lot more news a

in the south bay. teams still working to clear an overturned big rig carrying 20 tons of strawberries. this all happened where 101 meets 880. we're going to take you live to the traffic jam with the commute kicking into overdrive. back in court, scott peterson's attorneys make a new bid to clear his name. our legal analyst weighs in on what comes next for the convicted murderer and banning firefighter uniforms that may cause cancer. a recent nbc bay area investigation the fabric. one bay area lawmaker's new push for change across the entire state. this is today in the bay a very good morning to

you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. want to start with that breaking news this morning for you. that overturned big rig causing traffic backups in the south bay today in the bay's bob redell live for us in san jose. so, bob, you're at 880, where it meets 101. correct. so we're talking about northbound, 101 to the southbound 880 connector shut down because of this overturned big rig. and in the connector right next to it, which would be northbound 880 to northbound 101, also shut down. this big rig overturned overnight. just spoke with caltrans. it's loaded with about 40,000 pounds of strawberries. they were going to try to upright the trailer, but it was just too much weight. so what they're doing right now is they're offloading the strawberries and caltrans just indicated sadly, they're just gonna have to. they're dumping the strawberries. i guess they're probably just not, sellable anymore. since this truck overturned, the driver of the truck is still on scene.

he's okay. this solo vehicle accident, chp indicates they might have been speeding when he lost control. so the issue, again, is getting this big rig upright. so they got to offload all the strawberries, and then they've also got to clean the road. if you look to the right you see they put sand on the road. i assume there were some sort of fuel spill. and then to the left there's the sand barrels that you see. those yellow sand barrels with the black lids, those spilled over. so they've got to repair that. so we are to everyone's probably wondering how much time is this going to take, it could take some time. there's not an exact estimated time of reopening. chp a while back was saying maybe an hour. caltrans was telling me, could be a number of hours. so this is clearly something that's going to impact the morning commute. so again, we are talking about northbound 101, the connector ramp to southbound 880 and then the northbound 880 to northbound 101 connector ramp. both of those shut down again because of this big rig turnover. again no one was hurt, but they just got to offload

these strawberries, which you can see they're doing right now and they're going to dump it into this field here off the freeway. once they get all that weight offloaded, they will be able to get that big rig, re-upped. so there's all those strawberries, sadly, that have to be disposed of. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell. today in the bay. yeah. glad no one was hurt. but everybody sees all those strawberries and think, oh, what a waste. thanks, bob. all right, let's check in with mike inouye. mike, i know you've been tracking just how people can get around all of this this morning. a lot of folks use that area. yeah, and we expected a much bigger backup. or at least i did because of that critical portion of 101 to 880. that transition ramp there. let's take a look at the map though. we'll see the speed sensors are actually showing a really good view there. slowing where the red arrow is approaching that 101 and 880 interchange. there's another crash, a smaller crash on the nimitz itself. but we're not going to worry about that. no injuries. and it's on the shoulder. north 101 coming into the area slows. and it started early and it stuck around for the last hour, which is unusual. but look, it does not go all the

way back to our camera at six 8680. and 280 can get you around that crash. and actually a lighter flow of traffic around the south bay is proving to be very beneficial right now. some folks, we do see a lighter traffic flow in some commutes starting now in through the summer. and so that may be what kicked in as san jose state had all their graduations last week. we're looking at a slower drive building for the east bay, but typical slow spots for highway 437, the richmond bridge and the bay bridge, and they're not bad as well. it's 634. remember that on a wednesday? that's looking pretty good throughout the east bay as well. back to you. thanks so much. well, our team has been sending out updates about this story from the moment it broke. if you haven't already, make sure to download our free nbc bay area news app and keep up to the news wherever you are. 635 right now and in just a few hours, convicted murderer scott peterson returns to court in an ongoing bid to clear his name today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us outside of the courthouse in redwood city. so ginger, what are we expecting to play out today? well, marcus, we expect today to be a pretty fascinating

day in court. out of the motions that have been filed by the defense team of scott peterson, today will be about dna testing. it's been a critical point in reviving scott peterson's case. the attorneys for la's innocence project filed motions requesting new dna testing on evidence gathered during the murder investigation. now, that includes a mattress found inside a burned out van found near the peterson's modesto home, and other pieces of evidence that washed up along san francisco bay. 51 year old peterson is serving life in prison for the murder of his wife, laci, and their unborn son, connor. he was convicted 20 years ago, and we spoke to legal expert stephen clark about his defense strategy . what the defense is asking for is access to evidence that previously had either not been tested or was tested, but today's technology is much more up to date, and they want to

establish an alternative theory. could laci peterson have still been alive when scott peterson went fishing? now, prosecutors are opposing the motions for dna testing from the defense, saying they will not hand anything over unless ordered by the court. court begins at nine this morning. we will bring you the developments as they come both on air and online at nbcbayarea.com in redwood city, ginger conejero saab today in the bay. all right. ginger thank you. also today in court, opening statements are on track to begin. this is in the trial for david depape. he is the man who attacked paul pelosi with a hammer. depapes attorneys yesterday argued that the state charges should be dropped. this is due to double jeopardy. well, the judge deferred a ruling saying that the trial should proceed. depape did get a chance to speak yesterday as part of his federal sentencing. the judge also resentenced him to 30 years in prison. mountain view

is the latest bay area city to approve license plate readers. it comes after a unanimous vote by council members late last night, following the lengthy hearing. the devices will be used to assist in crimes, including hit and runs, amber alerts and car and package thefts. but while some residents are concerned about the added surveillance, others believe the time has come. it is a good idea in the sense of it will improve, you know, detection and probably tracing, but at the same time, a little hesitant. i mean, you know, it'll get used for all kinds of small things, like, you know, you're living in your residential area, you take a left turn when there's nobody there, and then you could get a ticket. police are planning to utilize 24 cameras which capture license plate images and compare the information with national crime data. a bay area lawmaker is now pushing for a statewide ban of certain types of firefighter uniforms. the reason the uniforms may cause cancer.

the new bill is backed by san francisco assemblyman member matt haney. the issue is with the uniform jacket and pants. our investigative unit found that they contain chemicals known as pfa as the chemicals supposed to help clothing repel flammable liquids and resist extreme heat. but research has shown absorbing those compounds through your skin can be dangerous. and city leaders recently approved a ban on the gear. the state legislation would also ban the uniforms as long as safer alternatives are available. you can watch a full story right now on our website, nbcbayarea.com. slash investigations happening today. governor gavin newsom makes a bay area visit to address climate issues and the future of artificial intelligence. at 2 p.m, he's scheduled to speak at the joint california summit on generative ai. it takes place at uc berkeley. that event is focusing on how ai technology can better serve people living here in california. ahead of

that, he plans to deliver an address at a separate uc berkeley event. this one is focusing on climate action partnership between the u.s. and china. new at 6:00. leaders in alameda soon voting on whether a controversial climate change project can resume on the uss hornet. it is called cloud brightening. university of washington scientists are trying to learn if spraying saltwater into the air can brighten clouds and reflect more sunlight back into space as a way of combating global warming. but earlier this month, city leaders halted the project over environmental concerns, a new study concludes. the process does not pose a measurable health risk to residents or wildlife. the vote on continuing the project takes place next week. when i first heard that, i thought that was so interesting, too. interesting. well, look at this. a beautiful start to our wednesday morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect not only here in san jose, but across the bay area this morning. yeah, waking up to sunshine for a change. and we are also seeing a change in our pressure systems, our wind patterns that is keeping all of

that marine air and those early clouds at bay. so we're starting out with sunshine as we take a live look outside in palo alto, checking out 101. let's head up to menlo park. and we're looking at temperatures in the mid 50s to start. it's going to warm up a little bit more quickly today. headed for the mid 70s at noon and then into the upper 70s for the afternoon. but we'll also see some 80s in a few spots from the south bay to the inland east bay, as well as the north bay. we'll talk about some hotter weather ahead coming up in a few minutes. mike's been tracking that overturned big rig, still taking a nap on its side there. we're looking at though, progress as you see another rig over on the left side. and we see that basically the machinery in the middle there it's gone. but it's shovel into the rig and then they're loading it up with strawberries and then they're pulling them away. bob did find out that they were sadly unable to use that for food purposes. you can't do that when there's a crash and the food is exposed. and so that's what's going on. i'm sure they'll find a zoo or

some other way to use it. so perhaps organic, maybe. maybe some compost. but we're looking at the closure. that's the focus for the morning commute. northbound 101. the transition on to 880. both are closed because of that closure. now folks are getting off on a 10th. they're getting over toward oakland road. that's getting you out of the backup. but the backup forms earlier. look at surface street traffic. try to get past that scene. it's not that bad of a detour in the area. and actually traffic's looking pretty light comparatively to other days. we do see a build here for north 101 coming into that area. and of course, scott, we have the backup at the bay bridge, which you don't need a crash to make that happen. and i'm not in it. all right, mike, well, coming up on today in the bay, the white house says israel did not cross a red line with its strike on refugees. plus, changing the sneaker game meet the man behind a unique brand highlighting asian american heritage. you're going to want to see it.

on television. but there's kind of no point in showing sanitized video either. the white house has warned israel not to invade rafah, but doesn't consider this bombing to be that invasion. as a result of this strike on sunday. i have no policy changes to speak to. it just happened. the israelis are going to investigate it. we're going to be taking great interest in what they find in that investigation, and we'll see where it goes from there. now, speaking to the knesset yesterday, netanyahu said the strike was a, quote, tragic mishap. his office later published a transcript where they changed those words to tragic incident. meanwhile, kirby, from the white house reminded the world one way or the other, the israelis are also victims. maybe some people forgotten what happened on the 7th of october, but we haven't. 1200 israelis, innocent israelis slaughtered, mutilated, raped, tortured and they're living right next to that kind of threat, still a viable threat in rafah. by the way, if you think

hamas is just gone, they're not gone from gaugh, rafah or from gaza. and if you think they've abandoned their genocidal intent towards the nation of israel, think again. they haven't. so israel has every right to not want to live next to that kind of threat. and yes, we're going to continue to provide them the capabilities to go after it. other international news a group of american lawmakers are in taiwan, solidifying the alliance between the us and the island nation. these sorts of displays upset the chinese. french president macron says the ukrainians can go ahead and use french supplied missiles to hit targets inside russia, so long as those targets launched first. so against artillery or other missile launchers, but not, say it, a factory or troop barracks. macron has also discussed sending uniform french military advisors into ukraine. well, while presidents deal with israel, air strikes in russia. former president donald trump has a waiting game today. the prosecution delivered its closing arguments. well into the

evening yesterday. and now jury instructions today, followed by deliberations and a verdict yesterday. he had family in the courtroom, his daughter tiffany, and his two sons, the president of the united states is not allowed to exercise his first amendment rights in new york city in this day and age. does that not tell us all? everything we need to know about what we're witnessing? it's a witch hunt. now trump has first amendment rights. the judge in the case forbade trump from using the advice of counsel defense to claim he was just doing what lawyers told him to do, even if it were wrong. trump was also instructed not to speak outside court about witnesses, court staff or jurors because of the fear he would intimidate them. trump chose not to testify in his own defense, which is certainly his right. trump has implied he was not allowed to testify, and based on past statements, he may make that claim again if he loses. so, to be clear, anybody has the right to testify in their own defense.

mike gag order or not, interesting times. this morning we continue to celebrate asian american, native hawaiian and pacific islander heritage here at nbc bay area. folks, i want to ask you a question. what would you do when a company tells you your culture doesn't lead? know you're just followers? well, perhaps you can create a new company with your culture as the lead, i want you to meet adam king, a taiwanese american sneaker head, after working his way up the ranks to global product line manager for a major sneaker company, he would hear talk that the asian american market wasn't needed. it wasn't enough to move a brand. i got so tired of hearing that asian americans were follower consumers, or that the word asian american was so uncool. it was like the third rail of marketing, and you never use it. instead of waiting for them to decide that we were good enough, we just we knew inside and had the confidence that we were. and what's been incredible has been that the numbers and

quickly. today we have some of the warmest days of the week coming tomorrow and friday. and then as we look ahead to early june, another wave of some summer-like heat. so today we're going to be a little bit warmer than it was yesterday in gilroy. we're starting out with some upper 40s at 11:00 at 66 degrees, and we're at 80 degrees at 3:00 today. it won't be as windy as yesterday, but once again, you're going to start to feel that heat ramping up a little bit today. really in fairfield you're up to 88 degrees for this afternoon and 85 for santa rosa, san francisco in the upper 60s. and then tomorrow you can see those temperatures going up a few more degrees into the mid to upper 80s. and then on friday, it's still pretty hot for the valleys, while nice and mild near the coastline. we're going to see a couple of storm systems moving into the pacific northwest for the weekend. that will send some cooler air our way and some rain very close by. we'll be watching out for that on monday, but then after that, temperatures quickly start to

ramp up again for the middle of next week. so we're going to see waves of the heat coming. but at least we do get those breaks in some cases. several days of some nice and mild weather in our 7-day forecast. mike, you've got a lot you're tracking, including san jose. yeah, nothing really unusual except for this. but this is very unusual. the overturned rig here in san jose does have an unusual pattern. they're still offloading thousands of pounds of strawberries that are in the back of that overturned big rig. and then they'll write the rig and hopefully clear it. you have the blue tow truck facing us. it's getting ready, but it's not going to do anything until they've cleared that payload. as we look at the map, this is where it is. it's affecting the on ramp from northbound 101 to 880. and either direction you'll see surface street traffic. there's the build, but the south bay build and the rest of the bay looks like a standard pattern. back to you. thanks so much. well, happening now, china has agreed to send two new giant pandas to dc's national zoo. first lady doctor jill biden says the pandas will arrive by the end of the year. the male

welcome back. we are moving you forward with a look at our top stories here on today in the bay, starting with that breaking news in the south bay. in fact, we've got a live look for you where interstate 880 meets 101 in san jose, where crews all morning long have been trying to clear an overturned big rig that was carrying 20 tons of strawberries. true two transition ramps are closed northbound 101 to southbound 880

and northbound 880 to northbound 101. the driver is okay, but that closure caused backups for commuters, crews. crews still have to bring the trailer upright before they can eventually tow it away. and of course, clean up all those strawberries right now, there's no estimated time for reopening. mike you've got the work arounds. yeah, i honestly was expecting a much worse impact on the commute for the south bay. we do have more slowing north 101 through the area, not impacting the speed sensors on 880, but you can get around it by using 680 and 280. if you're coming off northbound 101 back to you. well, happening today, convicted murderer scott peterson will appear virtually in a hearing on his legal team's attempt to win a new criminal trial. now, here's a live look for you this morning. this is at the justice in redwood city. this is where the hearing will play out. now, peterson is serving life in prison for the murder of his wife, laci, and their unborn son, connor. 20 years ago. attorneys for la's innocence project. they filed motions requesting new dna testing on evidence gathered

during the murder investigation. also today, a heads up for drivers moving through san francisco's sunset district. this is a live look at northbound 19th avenue starting at 9:00 this morning. the normally busy street will be closed between sloat and taraval. the closure ends at 3:00 in the afternoon, but the same closure will be in effect tomorrow and friday. they're doing some roadwork there, so hopefully you'll appreciate it later. and good outlook weather-wise for us. yeah. looks great. it's going to be a little bit warmer today. that means a lot more sunshine, but temperatures for some of our inland areas will be headed for the mid 80s. take a picnic outside. hey early early pick a basket. all right. that's what's y. have g here on today in the good wednesday morning.
