area, we'll tell you about the campaign fundraisers the former president is attending today. and the protests plan. also reversing course. the reason state farm is now letting some customers keep their insurance policies and the steps customers have to take to qualify. this is today in the bay well, good thursday morning to you everyone . i'm scott mcgrew, marcus washington has the rest of the week off and i am laura garcia. okay. we are following all the news that's happening, that brush fire in the north bay causing an air quality advisory to be issued for some cities in napa county. the crystal fire in saint helena erupted yesterday afternoon. crews stopped that fire from growing larger than 60 acres just before 5:00 last night. luckily, no homes were damaged, but five firefighters were hurt. sean mora, of saint helena, lives near the burn area at one point, the fire was threatening some homes on the
5:02 am
hillside, including her parents. she is house and dog sitting while they're out of town. so with a fire growing, she says she had to act fast. i just had to drive up and go get the dogs and get everyone out the fire, as many living in the area on high alert because it was so close to where the glass fire started back in 2020, that fire damaged more than 1000 structures and burned more than 60,000 acres. certainly, the heat is also a concern as well. let's check in with meteorologist kerry hall right now. but a little bit of a cooler conditions expected today? yes, absolutely. and when you have the temperatures dropping you also get higher humidity, especially in the early morning hours. so hopefully things are looking much better there for the firefighters trying to get some handle on those conditions. but right now we're starting out at 61 degrees in palo alto. it is 54 in san francisco, and it was just so hot yesterday. it's definitely going to be cooler today instead of seeing those 90s. we're in the upper 80 still
5:03 am
warm, but we're not as seeing as much of a heat risk and the impact to your health as our temperatures will be in the upper 80s and a few low 90s, we'll continue to cool off into the day tomorrow, so i'll have more on that in a few minutes. mike already seeing some slowing. yeah, we're looking over here. well, first of all, highway 87, there was overnight road work and that crew is picking up. just seconds ago, i got the refresh. they are going to be clear in the next few minutes, but they're slowing as they clear those cones and their equipment over here still slow into a construction zone. there was a crash south 680 at highway 84 just past the merge there, and then they moved the vehicles involved over to the construction zone. so there's construction and the distraction for flashing lights, but no additional lanes are blocked right now. slow just for that one section coming down through fremont and out of out of sunland in toward fremont. and it should be clear once they do take care of those flashing lights. eastbound 580. there's a disabled vehicle at north flynn. the exit there is impeded, but still open and westbound. your commute pretty standard. oh,
5:04 am
something new out there. i'll check it out. back to you, mike. i got something new. a mountain lion wandering around one south bay neighborhood as we speak. folks in the edenvale neighborhood spotted the cat last night. it's near l.a. drive and war admiral way near valley christian. now, here's a live look in the neighborhood. the mountain lion spotted walking in the front yard of many homes at last check. police are asking neighbors to stay indoors. bring your pets inside as well. officers working with animal control, trying to track down the mountain lion and certainly call 911 if you spot it this morning. testimony is expected to resume in the criminal case against hunter biden. the jury heard from an ex-wife and ex-girlfriend of president biden's son today in the bay's alice barr joins us live in washington. alice, her testimony specifically focusing on that past drug use. well, that's right, scott and laura, this is, of course, deeply personal testimony for the president's son. prosecutors say they could rest their case as soon as
5:05 am
today. potentially. as you mentioned, the jury heard from both hunter biden's former girlfriend and his ex-wife yesterday. he was married to kathleen buell from 1993 to 2017. she testified that she found a pipe belonging to the president's son in 2015, and he allegedly acknowledged to her that he used crack. so it kasten, an alleged an ex-girlfriend who met hunter biden while she was a dancer at a gentlemen's club, said he used cash to pay for many things, including drugs. hunter biden faces three charges tied to gun possession charges while using drugs. the prosecution is trying to prove that he knowingly lied on a federal form when he purchased that gun in 2018, but the biden defense team says that he did not knowingly. that word is important lie on the form when denying he used drugs or was an addict. first lady jill biden has been one of his many supporters in court throughout the proceedings. prosecutors say they have six additional witnesses to present, but
5:06 am
they're expected to have much shorter testimony than what we've heard so far. and so that could wrap this up relatively quickly. if the prosecution does rest today, their requesting to learn the witnesses that we may, may, may hear from the defense's side from hunter biden's team. well alice, i understand that the jury also heard from another witness yesterday, the gun store clerk who sold hunter biden that gun at the center of the case. yes that's right. and this is gordon or. yeah, gordon cleveland. he said that he not only sold the gun to hunter biden, but that he watched him fill out the form that is at the heart of all of these accusations. and he said that hunter biden did, in fact, check no on the form at the center of the case. cleveland says that the president's son paid $900 for the gun, allowing the clerk to keep $13 and change that gun. biden purchase was also shown to the jury that biden defense team began their questioning yesterday of cleveland by challenging his recollection of events surrounding the purchase.
5:07 am
they're trying to poke holes in his memory, and they're expected to resume cross examination when court gets back underway this morning. back in washington, house republicans say they are going to send a criminal referral to the department of justice for both hunter biden and president biden's brother, james biden, for allegedly lying to congress. laura. all right, alice, thank you so much. well, new overnight, dozens have been killed in an airstrike on a gaza school, which the israeli military claimed was being used by hamas. local health officials say at least 30 people were killed, including 23 women and children, dozens injured. the israeli military says there were 20 to 3 hamas militants using the school to plan and execute attacks this morning. top leaders from the us, france, spain and several other countries issued a joint statement calling for a cease fire deal to be reached in talks involving mediators still underway. but so far no sign of a breakthrough. well, later today, former president donald

trump will be in the bay area. he's attending a fundraiser in san francisco. it's being held by the co-hosts of the popular all in podcast. tickets start at $50,000. the fundraiser comes exactly a week since the president's felony conviction, which his campaign has used as a rallying cry for donations. vice president kamala harris back in washington this morning following a trip to the bay area. during yesterday's visit, she raised thousands of dollars for the biden-harris reelection campaign during fundraisers on each side of the bay, she spoke at a san francisco democratic campaign fundraiser celebrating pride month. she also met with a smaller group of supporters in oakland. but her visit not without protest, critical of the way the biden administration is handling the war in gaza. the entire world is calling for us to stop arming israel and biden and harris cry their fake crocodile tears, saying they care and too many civilians have died. a pro-trump rally is
5:09 am
scheduled for noon ahead of the former president's visit today. 508 on your thursday morning happening today, the debate over bringing pandas to san francisco continues. the city supervisors audit and oversight committee will vote on what actions it's willing to take to bring pandas to the san francisco zoo. the mayor is calling for $25 million. the committee recently said no and postponed the request until today, calling it a distraction, saying there are more urgent funding issues. this meeting will be at ten this morning. new this morning, state farm says some customers at risk of losing their home insurance can keep their policies, but there are steps they must take. according to the chronicle. the company says some customers can keep their policy if they also sign up for the california fair plan for fire coverage. the fair plan is a state created, privately run insurer, covers damage from fire, lightning, internal explosions and smoke. state farm did not say how many
5:10 am
customers would be offered, continued coverage. interested customers can sign up at their next renewal date following july 3rd. it all comes after state farm announced in march it would not renew 30,000 home insurance policies in california. let's go out live to san jose, where it's going to be warm again today. i know that's been a big problem for firefighters fighting all those brush fires. carrie's been watching that as well. yeah, that heat just really dried out the vegetation even more. and at least we didn't have a big high wind yesterday. and we're also going to start to see much more of a breeze picking up as our temperatures drop. we can see a hazy start over oakland this morning. maybe some issues with air quality as well, but we are seeing the wind increasing as our temperatures start out in the mid 50s and as we go throughout the morning it's going to slowly warm up. it won't be as hot as yesterday, but we're still going to have some warm valleys and we're staying comfortable in oakland with a high of 77, san francisco 71. but as you make your way into the north bay, it will be
5:11 am
in the low 90s in santa rosa and as hot as 100 degrees in ukiah. so definitely a wide range in temperatures at least 30 to 35 degrees from the coast to the inland areas. we'll talk more about that in the weekend. coming up, you might have to fill up that tank. so where can we do it for less? mike. no, carrie. i saw my local station go down a few cents. drivers through concord head to valero on willow pass road for contra costa county's best. that's for 29. solano county is low right here in the new name in vallejo. this for 39 is j.a.r gas on sorrento drive. it's over near kaiser, and today's highest low is the farthest south. santa clara, with 453 at platinum gas on washington street. check and report all those for all of us gasbuddy.com on the roadways. we do have some recovery. the earlier disabled vehicle cleared from north flynn for east 580. there is another crash that is just clearing right about 205. you can barely see the arrow, but there's no slowing. westbound would be the direction for the commute where the build is, and south 680. this just cleared from the grid. all
5:12 am
activities southbound around 84, but there's still construction in the area. we'll check on that status. coming up back to you. sounds good. we'll check back with you, mike. well, taking preventative steps in the fight against covid ahead on today in the bay. new recommendations the fda is making. make sure we get ahead of all those fall variants. plus pride is here in san francisco is gearing up the way you can be a part of setting up the pink triangle display and the key meaning bendhi
5:15 am
in which you can expect. today it will be 67 degrees at 8:00, and at noon it's 80 degrees. the warm up still happening, but not as fast and as high as yesterday will be in the low 80s throughout the afternoon. definitely feeling comfortable compared to what we've had. we'll talk about the weekend coming up in a few minutes, and we're looking at fremont here. 880 this freeway is moving smoothly. no disturbance from the nimitz through the fremont. 680 the good news is they just cleared the construction and the crash as you're coming down into fremont. so we'll check those speed sensors coming up and also checking some numbers. we'll check in with silvana. good morning. to you. all stocks are set to open mix. and that's from yesterday's session when the s&p hit an all time high powered by nvidia's rally and slightly weak labor market data that gave hope

first time since 1972. the launch is targeted for just a few minutes from now at 5:50 a.m. pacific time. lauren scott we'll be watching. oh, most definitely. thank you so much, savannah. all right. well, moving you forward. covid cases are low now, but vaccine experts are already looking to get in front of a seasonal surge this winter. they've got to figure out, though, what strain to target. an fda advisory panel this week recommended they target the highly contagious gene point one variant or one of its descendants, and updated shots will be distributed this fall. today, volunteers and crews will be back at work in san francisco ahead of constructing an iconic display for pride month crews will pick up supplies needed to build this year's pink triangle atop twin peaks. the annual tradition represents the pink triangle used by during world war two. concentration camps to identify homosexuals, the founder of the project says it's important to
5:18 am
remember the symbol's history during pride month. part of appreciating and celebrating any pride is understanding where you've been. and this is it. this pink triangle is exactly what can happen if we don't remain vigilant. gone are the led lights used during covid installation gets underway tomorrow and is expected to be completed by saturday. the triangle will stay up through june 30th. it looks cool and misty from last year when they did that. but not maybe not this year. well i mean, we're going to see the return of the fog and that's going to help bring down the temperatures not only in san francisco, but that helps us out across the bay area as we get that onshore wind flow. so let's get a look at san francisco right now. it is clear today, but i do think that in the next couple of days, we'll start out with some low clouds and fog and once again, bringing those temperatures down, we're going to see our temperatures going from mid 50s this morning to low 60s at lunchtime and then into the low 60s throughout much of the afternoon, with a breezy wind. but we're still warm in
5:19 am
the south bay with our high temperatures in the upper 80s. all of these numbers are above what we are used to seeing even for this time of year. so we're coming down off of the high heat that we had yesterday. but we're also still going to be slightly above normal with cupertino and san jose looking at a high of 87 and 91. in morgan hill, after hitting 100 yesterday, that's going to be an improvement. and in livermore 91 for this afternoon, 90 in walnut creek and oakland today about ten degrees cooler than yesterday afternoon with some upper 70s. will be in the mid 80s in palo alto today. but compare that to the 66 and half moon bay and 73 in san mateo. definitely a wide range in temperatures depending on where you are. hence our microclimate. and so we're going to see in san francisco temperatures ranging from 64 to today 71 downtown and mid 60s for the coastline, while ukiah will still hit triple digits today, a high of 102 degrees.
5:20 am
santa rosa will see a high of 92 for today. and then looking at those temperatures coming down significantly over the next few days, in fact, tomorrow we may stay in the 70s. there it does come up a few degrees for saturday and sunday, but still comfortably warm. and then the high heat returns for the middle of next week. definitely on next tuesday. and wednesday when we'll see more of those low 90s. our inland temperatures going from 90 today to low to mid 80s for the weekend. i mean, it looks really nice. and for the a lot of the events and festivals happening may be warm during the middle of the day, but at least we do have the cool morning and the evenings as the winds pick up and san francisco brings it back to the 60s in the forecast. and mike, you're looking for some improvement through the tri-valley. and we are seeing it. those speed sensors have gone from red to orange. and now mostly yellow. again, the construction zone cleared and all lanes cleared from the earlier crash as well. so a little bit of lag time and then those sensors should start to
5:21 am
improve. just before they start to build. with more traffic coming in, we can see that over here. highway 84 feeds in out of livermore and pleasanton as well. no big deals out of the altamont pass. we continue to see that steady flow. the south bay, clear peninsula, great. getting up in toward the east bay, a smooth flow of traffic as well. we are looking over here, southbound 101 coming down toward that tunnel or robin williams tunnel. there was a lot of slowing for just a few minutes, usually indicating that crew clearing as folks are heading down toward the city, there should be no more delays between san rafael and san francisco. back to you. all right. thanks so much, mike. well, next on today in the bay. nbc bay area responds. he contacted his bank 90 times about a problem, and nothing changed until he contacted us once. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura, nbc bay area responds next

foods with excessive sugar. some public health officials say sugar and its harmful effects on our health should be spelled out to consumers on a warning label, just like a cigaret package. on average, americans eat more than 100 pounds of sugar per person each year. that's more than three times the amount recommended by the fda. and it's not just candy and snacks. sodas hidden sugar, things like processed food, cereal, salad
5:25 am
dressing, even yogurt are adding to the sugar intake. is there a difference between the sugar that's refined or processed and packaged foods, and the sugars that we get naturally from something like fruit? yeah for sure. if you're eating whole fruit, you're getting a complex matrix of food with fiber, phytochemicals, nutrients. it's slowly absorbed. it's a very nutritious food, as it were, as opposed to fruit juice. or when you extract the sugar from the fruit or from corn or wherever else you're getting it from, it's rapidly absorbed. ahead on the today show, everything families need to know about sugar. and when it comes to health and wellness. and of course, that starts at seven, right after today in the bay. not so sweet after all. well, nbc bay area responds to one man's financial fiasco. so he asked consumer investigator chris kamara's team for help. chris found a lot of other people facing the same problem. good morning, michael garcia tells us. he opened a brand new account at sofi, an online bank. he deposited a $1,368 check from his old bank. well, then sofi

5:31 am
thursday morning to you. thanks for joining us. 530 right now i'm laura garcia and i'm scott mcgrew, marcus washington has the rest of the week off. that's very welcome for him. but boy this is not welcome. latest on the brush fire in the north bay. the crystal fire, saint helens helena erupted yesterday afternoon. crews stopped the fire at 60 acres just before five. but all that smoke and air quality advisories for some cities in napa county, no homes damaged. but five firefighters were hurt. it's about 65% contained. let's check in. meteorologist kari hall kerry not as hot today, but certainly hot in front of that fire as they're fighting it. yeah, and one of the other things we look for, and when it comes to trying to contain a fire, is humidity. and as of now we are seeing humidity numbers coming up that slows the spread of the fire. and that also helps those firefighters get more containment. so hopefully that is what we're expecting today. we're seeing the humidity levels
5:32 am
in that area running anywhere from the low 80 to 100% range. so there's a lot of moisture in this cooler air that we're seeing this morning. temperatures in the mid 50s in much of the north bay. and then as you move over toward the east bay, it's as warm as 69 degrees in martinez. to start out your morning. and we're going to see our temperatures still warm in some areas, but it's definitely above average but not setting records for many spots. so we will see highs in the upper 80s and low 90s in the valleys. and it continues to cool off for tomorrow. so i'll have more on that and some weekend events coming up in a few minutes. well, new overnight san francisco police investigating following a shooting at dolores park. this happened a little before 1030 last night. video here showing the crime scene investigation. the caution tape at the scene. witnesses tell us they saw at least one person shot, but right now, police are not confirming any details. well, now to decision 2020 for san francisco continues to be an important fundraising stop
5:33 am
today. former president donald trump arrives for a fundraising event hours after vice president kamala harris visit today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco. she's got a look at more on today's event. good morning ginger. good morning laura. well, the former president's visit today is set to be met with both fanfare and mockery. he's in town for a lavish fundraiser at the pacific heights mansion of venture capitalist david sachs. now, tickets to that private event are pricey. they are selling, reportedly. or they sold reportedly for $50,000. now, it hasn't always been a warm bay area welcome for mr. trump. here's video from a previous visit back in 2016. that's when protesters tried to block trump's motorcade from reaching the california gop convention in burlingame. the crowd then ended up blocking airport boulevard, causing trump's motorcade to pull to the side of highway 101. and then mr. trump walked
5:34 am
through construction barriers in order to enter the convention late and through a back door. and then we went under a fence and through a fence and oh, boy, i felt like i was crossing the border. actually here is another bay area visit. in 2019, he held a fundraiser at a tech executives home in silicon valley. protesters were there as well, to greet him with a baby trump balloon and today, an anti-trump crowd is also expected to come out. yesterday, a bay area group did a test run, inflating this 33 foot tall trump chicken balloon that's been kept in storage. now, trump's visit comes a week after his 34 count conviction in his hush money trial. and laura, it's important to note while the former president has paid visits in both 2016 and in 2019, today will reportedly be his first visit to san francisco in at least a decade. so many eyes will be watching to see how this
5:35 am
all pans out. we'll bring you updates both on air and online at nbcbayarea.com. all right, laura, a lot to cover there. thanks so much, ginger. it is 534. just a few hours. the two people arrested in the deadly shooting of a pleasanton home depot worker set to be sentenced. the getaway driver is david guillory. but it was benicia knapps who fired the shot that killed home depot loss prevention worker blake mohs. the shooting happened in april at the store on johnson drive. investigators say moss confronted knapps over stolen items. mo's mother is expected to speak after sentencing later this morning. also today, one of two drivers accused in what authorities say was a street racing crash which killed a peninsula mother and father is scheduled to appear in juvenile court. prosecutors have yet to determine if the unidentified 17 year old will be tried as an adult. investigators say he, he and 23 year old kyle harrison, who you just saw were racing at high speeds on el camino real in
5:36 am
redwood city on november fourth. that's when cameras showed the car, driven by the juvenile, slamming into the vehicle carrying this couple and their two seven year old daughters. both survived the crash. the kids did. harrison pleaded not guilty in december. well, 80 years ago today, the course of history changed forever. the d-day invasion helped bring an end to the war in europe. president joe biden and first lady doctor jill biden are in normandy this morning. in fact, we have a live look in normandy, where biden and other world leaders will be issuing remarks at the commemoration ceremony. 3000 american soldiers, sailors and pilots died in the first 24 hours of the d-day invasion. their sacrifices now seen as the start to the end of world war two. today in the bay's jay gray is in normandy with a closer look at that event. they line up in formation, know most, can't march or stand at attention
5:37 am
anymore. still, they move through this battlefield field turned graveyard memorial, a visit that brings with it memories of their first trip here 80 years ago. i'm reliving walking in on d-day. staff sergeant jake larson landed on omaha beach with the first wave of allied soldiers. his unit peppered with machine gun fire as they scrambled to combat positions, larson somehow making it across the sand without taking a hit. how do you explain something like that? and these my buddies are buried here. i'm 101 years old. it won't be long, and i'll be joining them. one of the reasons for many, it's so important to be here. a chance to say one final goodbye and to honor those who never left. what we lost. we lost so many men.
5:38 am
it's unbelievable. and, that's me. the young people should know about this, and they really don't. so, i just i had to say something, so they share their stories, take pictures. though most will tell you they don't care much for all of the attention. and even though they are, many refer choose the label of hero. we got my hero at all, it's the those guys that sacrificed their life truth is, they're all will be made right
5:39 am
here in the east bay, pitcher kelsey whitmore is expected to open for oakland ballers in ther league. the ballers playing the yolo high wheelers. we talked to whitmore at the first home game for the ballers, she said. she is here to play. i don't look at anything different. i'm just trying to do my thing, just trying to compete, you know, the guys treat me the same. and so i
5:40 am
look at them as just other ballplayers that we're all trying to do the same thing at the end of the day, which is compete and get to the next level. all right. you can see whitmore open for the ballers tonight at 635 at raymond park in oakland. cory it's a good day for a baseball game. absolutely. definitely better than yesterday. it was hot during the afternoon. and oakland is going to have a much more comfortable day. our temperatures go from upper 50s to a lot more sunshine for the afternoon. and then our highs headed for the upper 60s for today. now looking at more events going on this weekend as we keep it in oakland for first fridays. that will be tomorrow night and we'll be at about 64 degrees at 5:00 when it begins, and then dropping back to the upper 50s with a few more clouds rolling in and you'll want to make sure that you are wearing layers for that. in novato, we'll have the art and wine festival both saturday and sunday. the weather looks great. saturday 78 degrees for a high. on sunday it's just slightly warmer, but it's going to be a very nice and sunny. and in san
5:41 am
francisco, the juneteenth parade and festival on saturday will have some cool temperatures there with some low to mid 60s throughout the day. a few clouds, breezy winds keeping the jacket on for that parade. and this is a live view of palisades tahoe this morning. if you are going to tahoe this weekend, it is going to be warm. our temperatures in the low 80s for highs really warming up for those hikes outdoors as well as just enjoying the sunshine. and it's going to be in the upper 70s by saturday with lows in the upper 40. mike, you're looking at a new backup. it was. but i was also looking at the snow on the peaks. even though those temperatures are great over here. yes, a new backup, not a new spot. the bay bridge toll plaza metering lights turned on at 537 539. start to see the backup. so there we go at the toll plaza, filling in from the middle out the reason they do that is because those middle lanes stay with the bridge. we lose the outer lanes as things compress to the incline. so that typically why people, i think
5:42 am
line up in the middle there. they don't have to shift lanes, but there is some slowing compression there. and again, the metering lights. no surprises. we have the bill for highway 37 in the north bay out of vallejo, highway four into concord, a little slowing eastbound highway four. they might be picking up some roadwork as you head over towards san marco. standard flow throughout contra costa county. again, you guys talked about the ballers here. so a historic night as pitcher kelsey will be pitching tonight for the first starting pitcher there over at the raymond park. again about 635 for that opening pitch. she'll throw out that first opening pitch. and then today the difference in oakland at the athletics and the coliseum will be at 1237. game and so that might mean some more traffic flow differences as folks get out of the game. and the evening commute does kick in, although we've seen a little bit lighter commute overall, as we typically see coming into the summer months, we're looking at 101 northbound, a little bit of slowing through san jose, but great recovery through sunol 680 still at speed. back to you. all right mike, thanks. celebrating a major milestone ahead on today in the bay. we introduce you to one san jose's cancer survivor

bottom 7% of literacy rates across california. for quite some time now, san francisco unified school district has had pretty abysmal literacy rates, and that is, of course, magnified when we're looking at african american, latinx and pacific islander students in particular. we think for a targeted approach like the san francisco literacy coalition, having an investment of $3 million will make a big enough difference to our schools and our educators that we think that we can make some real strides, definitely. in the next three years. so the summer the collective is going to create an overall plan to lay out a three year strategy to meet all of those literacy goals. 549 right now, get ready to start your engines this weekend, the north bay will be rumbling with a roar of race cars. nascar returning to the sonoma raceway, jose guerrero is the communications manager for the sonoma raceway. joining us live from the track.

thanks for getting up early, jose, so i can see behind you. remember the raceway just underwent that repaving project. what impact is that going to have on today's what is it, the toyota save mart 350 this weekend? yeah, i think it's going to be a great weekend, and we were here a few few months ago, actually, where they were actually doing a few testing. it was just phenomenal for what we were seeing throughout that weekend. so we're extremely excited about what it's going to be happening. and then the opportunity at the race, fans are going to be having just see great racing all throughout the weekend with amazing weather, which we're so thankful for. yeah, no kidding, because we're just coming off that little heat spike that we have. what can fans expect this weekend besides the good weather? we have a ton of fun, fan activations happening throughout the weekend. one thing that i always say is that nascar is literally the most affordable professional sport for families, because on friday and saturday is free for any children with a ticketed adult. and then on sunday for
5:51 am
the main event is just $10. where else can you go see an event, a professional sport just like that? but all the activations that are happening in our fan zone, anything with our kids zones, we have vendors from everywhere around the county that are bringing in and showcasing their stuff, but everything is free. literally. you're your general admission ticket literally gives you that access to see all that and those activations with your friends and family, which is which is fantastic. that is totally cool. it's not just sitting in the stands and watching the race like you mentioned the kids zone. it's like a lot of interactive things. yeah, exactly. i mean, the kids learn so much about the sport just because every activation has something that is involved within racing. so the kids can either do something with the california highway patrol or anything with the activations, with the toyota save mart, we even have a photo booth opportunity with lightning mcqueen. so it's a whole thing that the family can do. but if you're just but if you're just a fan of racing, it's where it's going to be great. throughout this weekend, there's a lot of things that a lot of fans are

going to see once they get to the track. kapow! it is then kachow kachow kachow jose guerrero, we appreciate you joining us. it sounds like a lot of fun. all right, toyota save mart 350 starts at 1230 sunday afternoon at the sonoma raceway. and jose, you can still buy tickets online, right? yes, you definitely can. we still have tickets available. and like i said, it's going to be great weather throughout the weekend. kachow that's the theme. all right. and then the chp is there to say, hey, slow down only on the race course. right? exactly. thanks, jose. jose says it's going to be great weather this weekend. let's turn to an expert. yeah, it's going to be great. yeah he's got it right. i know he's checking every few minutes. so yeah we have sunshine, cooler temperatures. and thankfully it's not the weather that we had yesterday because it did get really hot during the afternoon. we'll have warm valleys and a cool coast and for the weekend, comfortably warm weather with breezy winds and then going into next week, we're going to gradually heat up those inland valleys. once again. let's take a look at our

live view in san jose and talk about what we typically see. now. this time of year, our normal high temperature in san jose is about 80 degrees. today will be 87, but at least we're not setting that record high. that was set back in 1903 of 100 degrees. livermore is going to reach a high today of 91. the record is 103. oakland will be in the upper 70s today. that's a few degrees shy of a record, while san francisco will be in the low 70s in santa rosa, we may match that high temperature record that was set back in 2021. so we're looking at temperatures in the upper 80s for cupertino, 91, in los gatos and 87 for gilroy in oakland. today, 77 degrees, while walnut creek will hit a high of 90. today it will be 93. in antioch. and yesterday we were in the triple digits there in palo alto. it will be 85 for today. san mateo, 73 degrees. a lot of spots will be much more comfortable today, with a lot of 60s across san francisco and a

breezy wind, but it will range from upper 60s near the coast in the north bay to 102 degrees in ukiah and napa. after hitting triple digits yesterday, will be in the upper 80s. let's take it back to morgan hill and look ahead. we'll be in the upper 80s today, but low 80s from tomorrow. throughout the weekend . and then we do see those temperatures coming back up for the first part of next week. so our 7-day forecast does show the we're going downhill on this roller coaster, these temperatures. and it's going to be at its lowest point this weekend. and then we slowly crank it back up for the beginning to middle of next week. and in san francisco we'll see temperatures in the upper 60s throughout the weekend. low clouds and fog, that ocean breeze and the marine layer helps bring down those temperatures there. mike, how's it looking now in the south bay? i know you're watching my face as you're talking about those temperatures over here. south bay, happy face. we're looking at a good drive northbound a little slowing right where you expect it. right on schedule. so that's good for 101. slowing

just north of two the 8680 interchange. just a bit of slowing here. southbound 880 as you pass by the san mateo bridge. no major issues out of hayward and in toward union city and fremont. just a little build out of the tri-valley and contra costa county. over here, traffic flows smoothly at the very important interchange 101 at highway 37. now over. here's the racetrack where we just talked about the weekend events. so that's on the racetrack over here. a lot slower reports of cows wandering around 101 highway 37 interchange. not sure if they're on the freeway, but someone did call chp and said they're concerned about how close those cows are to the roadway. so i'll let you know if they have to do any traffic breaks. there's some slowing for highway 37, right? as you'd expect. but i'm hearing around mare island a critical spot westbound 37th may have a minor crash. we'll follow up on that and let you know. but there's a typical build out of pinole and in toward richmond. highway four looking great eastbound still shows some slowing. i think there may be a crew there still going on. as you're leaving concord and heading back over in toward bay point opposite your main commute, and we often see
