initiative, governor gavin newsom, is set to launch all eyes on the market as we await a key jobs report. we're live in washington with more on the expectation from economists and what it means for your family. plus, a commuter alert for anyone riding caltrain this weekend. the gaps in service you need to know about this is today in the bay. well, very happy friday morning to you. i'm scott mcgrew and i'm laura garcia. everybody's a little happier on a friday around here. let's in fact, look at the forecast meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. happy friday carrie. happy friday. and i think the weather is going to be a lot more comfortable for you for today. we are already starting out with some cooler air in much of the north bay, with some upper 40s, and it's in the mid 50s in oakland, 58 degrees in san jose. so a little bit milder there. and we see those numbers coming down even more so for this afternoon. we'll see a high of 84 degrees in san jose, 84 in livermore a lot of our warmer spots in the

inland valleys will be in the lower 80s, as opposed to the triple digits. we had just a couple of days ago. i don't want to remind you of that, but we are going to have some better weather for the weekend and it looks great even into sunday. but we'll talk about the changes ahead. mike, now you have a crash and cruz on i-580. that's right. exactly. i think they're jammed up over here. and these folks, believe me, remember those higher temperatures. we're looking at 205. it's jammed up on 580 all the way to about northland where a big rig went off of the roadway. so this crash is off into the sort of the grassy area. and the fire crews that are on scene, just in case there are any injuries, which there are not any major injuries. so this has one lane blocked and the jam up. i don't know how long it's going to take, and i'm not sure if this rig is able to be just pulled from the area or if it has to be righted, so we'll get more detail from chp, but that does affect folks out of the altamont pass. it actually affects everyone else through the dublin interchange because it keeps traffic lighter, held up back here. so the rest of the map outside of what i'm blocking is clear. the altamont pass is the

slowdown coming off of 205. back to you, mike. in 28 minutes we will get the monthly jobs numbers a key indicator of the health of the economy. and of course, we don't want it to be too healthy. economists are hopeful the may jobs report could show a cooling in the labor market today in the bay's alice barr joins us live. and alice, what else are economists saying ahead of this release? it's another one of those odd, counterintuitive hope for something that's not too good of news, right. the may jobs report is expected to give clarity on what is ahead in the federal reserve's battle against inflation. economists surveyed by the dow jones expect the bureau of labor statistics to report 190,000 new jobs added to the economy last month. moreover markets will be taking a close look at wage numbers as average hourly earnings are expected to show a 0.3% increase. economists say unemployment is expected to reach 4, which if so, would be the first time it's reached that high since january of 2022. in april, the economy added 175,000

new jobs. so if may's numbers hold true to expectations, that would be 15,000 additional jobs. average hourly earnings rose a smaller than expected 0.2% in april, and unemployment rate that month rose to 3.9, compared to 3.8% the month prior. economists tell nbc news that if fewer than 175,000 new jobs are added, and if unemployment ticks up to 4% or higher, that combo could be enough to urge the fed to maybe slow down on the interest rate hikes and potentially even cut rates sooner than expected. we are expecting the report to come out at 530 this morning, and we'll be right here with all the details for you coming up at six. scott and laura. good. just minutes away. thanks alice. well, the date is set. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu will address a joint session of congress next month, according to two sources. he will speak on july 24th.

netanyahu last spoke to congress in 2015. several democrats have indicated he will. they will boycott the speech as israel is being condemned around the world for the civilian death toll in the war in gaza. that includes an attack earlier this week where dozens were killed in an airstrike on a school. former president trump is now in breach of a british high court order, according to sky news. he was ordered to pay $300,000 in legal costs to the former spy, who compiled a dossier alleging russian interference in the 2016 us election, the paper reports. trump failed to comply with the costs to settle with christopher steele. trump didn't comment on the matter to sky news. nbc news has also reached out for comment. all this comes as trump just left the bay area after a fundraiser hosted by tech leaders in san francisco's well-known pacific heights. guests paid up to $300,000 for tickets. his arrival led to rallies and protests. i'm here to see trump, okay, we have been

studying trump for years. he's been in the white house before. he's a criminal. and they're sucking up to the biggest criminal on earth. some of these people talk about law and order constantly, are kissing up to the biggest criminal in the entire country. some reports say the former president could rake in millions of dollars from yesterday's fundraiser. he's expected to raise more money in fund at fundraisers in southern california today, two people convicted in the deadly shooting of an east bay home depot worker are going to prison. the shooting happened last april at the home depot on johnson drive in pleasanton. loss prevention worker blake mohs was shot and killed while he was trying to stop two shoplifters under a plea deal. the shooter, benecia caps, will serve 19 years to life for second degree murder and enhancements. david guillory , the getaway driver who fled with naps, two year old in the car will serve a little over

seven years. the victim's mother, lori, spoke at the sentencing yesterday. this doesn't bring him back, but this takes our life back. our our lives are no longer ransom by the justice system. we no longer wait for the next court date. and then when we got a conviction, we don't wait for the appeal date. we don't wait for a change in law or or a jury tampering claim or some other crazy thing that will continue to hold our lives captive. mo's mother went on to say she wants to start a new chapter in her family's life and become advocates for victims of violent crime. well, happening today, governor gavin newsom will announce a new measure in the bay area for equal rights to marry. it's called the freedom to marry initiative. it would protect the fundamental right to marry regardless of gender or ethnicity, even though marriage equality has been legalized across the united states, in california's constitution, it still says that same sex couples are not allowed to marry. the ballot measure would update the state's constitution to reflect

current laws. newsom and community leaders will hold the conference in san francisco at 1030 this morning. well, volunteers almost ready to put up the pink triangle at twin peaks. it's the 29th pink triangle installation. about 700 volunteers will start putting up the pink tarps to make that triangle. today, the pink triangle, a symbol of gay pride, originated from the concentration camps when gays were forced to wear an inverted pink triangle. this year's triangle will be unveiled at a ceremony tomorrow morning. caltrain will stop service this weekend between san jose and san francisco, so most of its route to test electric locomotives. it's also limiting the number of busses going from san jose, diridon palo alto and millbrae stations. caltrain says this will be the last public shutdown between now and september, when the new fleet takes over. taking a live look at san jose. look at that sun coming up. making way for a lovely friday morning. kary's got a look at those

temperatures for us. yeah, it's going to be a cooler day and we are going to have a pretty nice weekend ahead. here's a live look outside in san francisco. we're going to see that fog rolling in over the next couple of hours and kind of lingering over the next, i'd say 3 to 4 hours and then a little bit more sunshine into the early afternoon. but look at how cool it's going to be today. only a low 60. so we're keeping the jacket on in the city. while as you head down to san mateo, we're going to see a high temperature of 71 degrees 81 in mountain view. and dublin today, up to 80 degrees 84, in san jose. and a lot of these temperatures are right where they should be for this time of year. we'll check out the weekend coming up, mike has a look at where you can fill up for a little bit lower. yeah, i think a lot of places are a little bit lower. not as low as we'd like, but we did drop below four bucks. alameda county, livermore's fox see gasoline on old first street is 3.99 a gallon. so that's great news for that. one section of alameda county. south bay's low is in san jose, 4.39 at the valero on tully road in the middle. here,

temperatures head for the upper 70s. here it's going to be a nice afternoon and we have more weather like this for the weekend, but we'll talk about the range and temperatures across our microclimates coming up. and we are looking over here live look, the headlights westbound, your commute direction in out of the altamont pass and in toward the dublin interchange. things are moving smoothly and pretty much as we expect for a friday, maybe a little bit lighter, although it looks congested, it's just flowing smoothly. a lot of folks held up back in the altamont pass. good morning. i'm silvana henao here at cnbc headquarters. stocks are set to open slightly higher today. and that's because investors are gearing up for this morning's monthly jobs report, which is just about 15 minutes away. now, all three of the major averages are on pace for a winning week. now, as far as the jobs report goes, economists surveyed expect the bureau of labor statistics to report that the u.s. economy added 190,000 more jobs on the

month, which would be a slight step up from that 175,000 gain in april. shares of gamestop shooting higher in yesterday's session after meme stock leader roaring kitty scheduled a live stream on youtube, which would be his first one in almost four years. gamestop popped more than 47% higher to close at 4655 per share. the stock actually hit a high of 4750 during the session, in which trading was briefly halted for volatility. the stock has more than doubled so far this week, and retail giant tjx that's the parent of tj maxx, marshalls and homegoods, said it's going to equip some store employees with body cameras to thwart shoplifting and keep customers and employees safe. the cameras will be worn by loss prevention officers, who are trained on how to use the devices. the footage will only be shared with law enforcement upon request or in response to a subpoena, and that's according

bay area, we have so many festivals and reasons to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather. as we are looking at temperatures starting out this morning in the upper 50s, we are now at 53 degrees in san francisco, one of the cooler spots and it will stay cool and windy. take a look at these wind gusts that we're expecting for today. here we are at 2:00 in the afternoon, and san francisco is getting a brisk wind at 34mph. and that wind makes it over toward the east bay oakland, as well as concord through the delta. that strong wind is what's helping to cool off our air. bringing in that cool ocean and very high humidity to that cool ocean air that we'll see for today. and look at these highs coming down from the high temperatures that we had midweek, to only seeing a high of 84 in san jose. so that's actually about normal for this time of year. in fremont, 80 degrees, 82 in concord. martinez. we're staying in the 70 as well as 70 in napa, 75 degrees and in santa rosa, 82.

now taking it into the day tomorrow, really depends on where you are. so we're seeing low 60s near the coast with mid 80s in santa rosa. santa rosa is going to be one of the warmer spots because most of the bay area is going to be in the 70s throughout the afternoon. and then about the same on sunday as well. so the farther you go inland, as well as those wind protected areas, you don't get as much of that ocean breeze and that influence. you're going to have some warmer temperatures. but as we go into next week, we're getting ready for another spike in those highs. and looking at some low 90s by tuesday. and that will be one day of some really hot temperatures. and then it comes down once again. so we are looking at once again milder weather for the weekend. temperatures in the upper 70s low 80s. but then it will be hot, a high of 93 for our warmer spots inland. on tuesday. if you have some plans on tuesday, you just want to make sure that you're planning ahead. but of course, right now we're just focused on the weekend, which looks great. mike, you're hearing there might be a traffic break. yeah. don't worry, not

morning to you. quickly approaching 530. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia, and i'm scott mcgrew. lace up your shoes. start stretching. we're going to go for a run this morning at 545. we will take you live to san francisco, where our ginger conejero saab will introduce us to the bay area running club. she says people are turning to clubs like this one to find love . wow. okay, get your heart pumping there. definitely. so in many ways, let's take a look at the forecast this morning. a nice way to start the morning with a nice run out there. yes. and it's clear we don't yet have any issues with visibility, even though we're seeing the fog return over san francisco. and that's going to help cool things off as we go throughout today and in the inland areas. it's going to be nice and sunny. let's head down the peninsula to belmont, where we're starting out with mid 50s at 6:00. and then we see that slow warming trend throughout the day. staying in the 60s for early in the afternoon, eventually reaching into the low 70s.

dublin today, 80 degrees about the same in fremont, 77 in martinez and napa. today we'll reach a high of 75 degrees. so we'll check out the weekend. there's so many events going on, so we'll show you a few coming up. mike, you're still tracking two crashes? yeah, i've got two events right now. this one's westbound 580 right around northland road. it sounds like a big rig went off the roadway. there was a fire truck blocking that slowly and checking for any major injuries. there are none. i believe that truck has cleared. but the spectacle of flashing lights that still has to be there. it's still there, and there's still a distraction out of the altamont. you notice more folks hitting altamont pass road, but mild slowing there. and so we'll continue to watch that build as we're looking at another crash. this is southbound 680 right around tree just as you're approaching treat i've heard that there are two vehicles in lanes, but i don't see that reflected on those sensors. so again, as you're traveling off the benicia or the benicia bridge heading south down toward the walnut creek area, through pleasant hill, you might find slowing. we'll track that, but it hasn't changed in

the last ten minutes. this has built a bit. highway 37, highway four. not really showing your slowdown. so just a typical distribution for this friday. not a major issue. back to you. all right. thank you very much. well san jose warning people that live there to be on alert after another mountain lion sighting. it happened yesterday afternoon near kelly park next to happy hollow zoo. it marks the fifth reported sighting in recent days. it comes as we're heading into a nice weekend, with a lot of people expected to be outdoors today in the bay's thom jensen joins us live now. and tom, could this be the same animal or do they think possibly it's more than one roaming around? they think it is probably just one roaming around, but have not said for sure yet. but the one expert that we did talk to, that's what they believe. and it is notable to have that many different sightings. you showed the map there, i think, from milpitas, starting on the 29th, all the way down to the kelly park area

here in san jose. five sightings in just over a week. and no matter what you call them, mountain lion, puma or cougar, they are dangerous nocturnal predators and they have been sighted in the area. so you need to take care in those areas and just over a week. so this latest sighting, like you said, was right here in the kelly park area. a lot of people were talking about it, posting on x, police searched another san jose neighborhood in the l.a. drive area after several sightings there. wednesday night, a neighbor captured video of what appears to be a big, wild cat near a driveway and one woman who has lived in that area for 20 years, says she's never seen a cougar here before, and now she'll bring her domesticated animals inside at night, knowing there's a large predator in the neighborhood, likely a mountain lion. her neighbor says he'll definitely keep his cats in at night. i think it could definitely be pretty dangerous. i mean, they're just small animals, so they could be easy prey. normally, i feel pretty confident that they can hide in

the trees, but against a mountain lion, i'm not too sure about that. yeah, i wouldn't be too sure either. today in the bay. also talked to an expert from the puma project who recommends that same advice. don't be too sure and take care of your small pets. a smaller animal will naturally look like food to a larger predator, so it's hard to blame the wild cat. it's up to pet owners to take responsibility with their pets, with these wild predators roaming in their neighborhoods. so good advice for humans too. she adds that humans should never run away from a big cat or turn your back on it. look big as you can by spreading your jacket out or shirt and get very loud. and the cat will usually run away when you yell like that and make yourself look very big. and she also says that they probably will come out of the leave the area. this one cat or multiple cats because they normally just don't settle in an area. they're very nomadic and will move on in just a matter of a couple of days. we're live in the kelly park area in san jose,

thom jensen today in the bay. i remember seeing one years ago up in the silver creek region, hiking up there and trying to make yourself big and then moving away as fast, quickly as you can, or a rare sighting. right? exactly, exactly. all right. well, let's hope everyone stay safe. yeah. thank you. tom. 534 on your friday morning, day three of president biden's trip to france will include a tribute to american troops who fought the second world war in normandy. he'll deliver a wide ranging speech, including america's ties to its european allies, the war in ukraine and worldwide threats against democracy. today in the bay's jay gray is in normandy. good morning jay. yeah yeah. good morning scott, as you laid out perfectly there, the president making the most of his time here in france, honoring america's heroes and their sacrifice while stressing to the world that we must continue to learn from the lessons of d-day. the president's visit to france began at the american cemetery

in normandy on the 80th anniversary of d-day, honoring the men who stormed the beaches, the fighter pilots and those on board the ships just off the shoreline. it's the highest honor to be able to salute you here in normandy once more. all of you. god love you as he continues to pay tribute to america's world war two veterans through the weekend. here, later today, the president also expected to speak publicly on a number of issues, including some foreshadowed during his d-day address. real alliances make us stronger. a lesson that i pray we americans never forget. the strength of america's ties to europe and the importance of protecting democracy, at one point tying the lessons from normandy to the war in ukraine. ukraine has been invaded by a tyrant bent on domination. ukrainians are fighting with extraordinary courage, suffering great losses, but never backing

down. ukrainian president vladimir zelensky in normandy for the d-day anniversary is expected to meet with president biden perhaps as early as today. the president will also sit down with french president emmanuel macron saturday, followed by a state dinner, then we'll spend time at an american cemetery in paris before returning to washington on sunday. and a bit of breaking news here. we know that the president has had that bilateral meeting with president zelensky, and we expect that later today he will announce another aid package for the war in ukraine. $225 million package that will include ammunition for artillery. it will include air defense interceptors and other crucial weapons needed in that fight. it is the sixth aid package that the president has agreed upon since signing the

supplemental defense bill. so it was a meeting that they had talked about. we know that it actually did happen this morning, and we expect to hear more about that during his speech today. all right, jay, great. but badly needed ammunition reporting live in normandy. thank you. one sunnyvale man is working to help others make it in the bay. today. a ribbon cutting will be held for newly constructed small homes. the developer calls a to use there on helena avenue, and are aimed at providing homes to low income residents. however, anyone is able to apply to live there. we spoke with almond bosch, ceo and project developer at arista properties, who's behind the project. he got emotional while talking about how the company helps those in need beyond just making sure they have a place to live. it's really rewarding, really rewarding, sorry, i just, yeah, it really, really does make a big difference when two years later, not a single rent payment is missed, or even if they are

struggling, they'll reach out. and because of the connections we have with other organizations that are willing to help, we'll connect them. the ribbon cutting ceremony gets underway at 1015 this morning. in the meantime, santa clara county supervisors this week approved a new proposal aimed at speeding up the building process. when it comes to building actual adus on residents properties. live look in the san francisco skyline here. the weekend the city will be celebrating second annual juneteenth parade. it will take place along market street, will be followed by a festival at the civic center plaza. as for a look at how the weather will be and for those who are going to attend, let's check in with kari hall. yeah, we can already see the clouds over san francisco. we are going to see that also back tomorrow morning. and so at the time that the parade begins, we'll see temperatures only in the low 60s. mostly cloudy with the sun just kind of peeking out as we go throughout the day. the high temperature up to about 64 degrees. so long sleeves,

jackets, maybe in the city. and if you're kicking off your evening tonight in oakland with a first fridays also jacket weather as our temperatures have dropped significantly. so at 5:00 we're seeing it right about 63 degrees. more clouds coming in and the gusty wind as we drop down to the upper 50s. by the end of the night, if you're wanting some warmer weather, you might want to head up to the novato art and wine festival. we are going to see the high temperature up to about 78 degrees for tomorrow, and about the same on sunday. really nice with the breezy wind, but if you're out there late in the evening, make sure you have the layers for the falling temperatures. and if it's been hot where you live all week and you're like, oh, i want to go to the beach, santa cruz will be chilly. we're only seeing a high here of up to about 60 degrees. it will be in the mid 60s for highs into the weekend. i do think the fog and the clouds will linger a lot of the time throughout the morning into the early afternoon. if your weekend plans take you to la, it's going to be beautiful there with temperatures in the mid 70s for

too fast. oh, my. slow down, slow down. just kidding. i'm just kidding. no you guys are great. tell me how this all started. it started off a tiktok, making a little joke on getting off the dating apps and then hopping on to the run club and meeting someone there. okay, i mean, that's kind of how this this generation meets people gets online, starts dating, and you're saying, i've had enough of that. keep it organic, meet someone new, even if you're not going to date someone you meet a new friend or a connection or work and it's something new that i don't think anyone's really doing, and it's really taken off. i mean, like, this is a great group of people who woke up early just to support you in the bay area run running club. yeah, you guys started off with like 12 people, then 100 people, then got up to like 700 people and you actually got in trouble. i got in trouble. yeah, i got in trouble with the city. but now we're good. we're doing it legally, but we get a massive amount of people out at every run, probably like a minimum of 2 to 300 people out. how often do you guys meet? how far do you

run? what are the levels that are, you know, kind of required or allowed to get out and run with you guys? we meet on every wednesday evening, every saturday morning, every saturday is in the city, different location and basically new spot. you come up, you socialize, you have fun, you meet new people. we do a whole bunch of icebreakers, and then after icebreakers we go run all paces. welcome from walking to advanced, we kind of bridge that gap between all athletes and people. from your weekend warrior to your track star. and after the run, we'll get together, jump into that ice cold water and socialize. well, i don't know if that's definitely a bonding experience if you're jumping into ice cold water. i mean, and you're saying that this is offering something that's different than possibly other clubs in the city, talk to me quickly. about 100% about that, we have this tight knit, diverse community. and i think a lot of other clubs are very clicky and techie, and we try to stay away from that. we try to stay as bay area as possible and hype. right. that's the idea.

graduation parties. right you know, a lot of people are celebrating this weekend, and you want to have that set up outside, too. you don't want everyone crammed up inside. we're going to have some beautiful weather no matter what you have planned going on. we're going to start out with a clear sky and nice cool temperatures this morning. take a look at where we're headed a high of 84 degrees and that's definitely an improvement from those upper 90s. even triple digits. morgan hill today you're going to see a high of 83 degrees looking nice also for the east bay with some of our warmer temperatures in the mid 80s. while along the bay it will be in the low 70s. oakland today 71 degrees and 80. in fremont. our high temperature in palo alto 78 degrees and 64 in daly city. so you can still see there's a wide range in our high temperatures across submito upper 60s in the city, and 75 degrees in napa, 82 in santa rosa. and we're still hot in ukiah and clear lake, 96 degrees for our high temperature today.

one of our warmer inland spots like walnut creek will have a nice mild weekend, but look at what's ahead for next week. we'll be heating up on monday into the mid 80s, and then we're up to 90 on tuesday. and then we do see the temperatures quickly coming back down. but we're at that time of year where our temperatures kind of take us on a wild ride, and at least we're down at the bottom of the hill as we go into the weekend with our temperatures mostly in the upper 70s and low 80s and then heating up again for the middle of next week. while san francisco is looking at mid 60s today, we're looking ahead to some low 70s next week. mike, you're saying that the metering lights have been activated? yes. they've activated the metering lights with very little impact on our view. it's a light traffic flow, but apparently there's enough traffic flowing into san francisco across the bay bridge there's a little bit of slowing on the incline, and then there's a little slowing on the decline. and that means this time to turn on, because that volume is starting to build a little bit. highway 37, no big deal. highway four not really showing any slow sensors. that's a great drive. on this drive
