market remains hot. we are live breaking down all the new numbers just coming out and the impact that's going to have on the economy and your pocketbook. plus, president biden overseas normandy paying tribute to american troops who served in world war two. but he's also having key meetings with other world leaders. new details on the high stakes meeting happening overnight. plus, protecting the right to same sex marriage, the new initiative governor gavin newsom will launch in san francisco today. as many worry, the supreme court

could reverse course nearly a decade after same sex marriage was declared legal. this is today in the bay well, good morning to you. happy friday. i'm scott mcgrew. mark is getting his weekend started early. yeah, exactly. started. happy friday on wednesday. all right. well, we're enjoying friday and we're looking forward to the weekend. the weather is going to cooperate. oh look. so much better than it did midweek. it's cooling down across the bay area. even though we do have to start out in some spots with a hazy sky or some low clouds, we are getting a view in oakland right now where the temperature goes from upper 50s. a nice cool morning to highs in the mid 60s for later today. it's also going to be mostly sunny, and we're going to see a high of about 75 in hayward, fremont 80 degrees and 84 in san jose and in livermore. some of our warmer spots in the low to mid 80s today and come down even a few more degrees for tomorrow. take a look at your microclimate. we're anywhere from 62.5 moon

bay to 85. in santa rosa. we'll get a look ahead to the rest of the forecast coming up, but as of right now, mike says it's friday light. yeah. you talked about the haze and the low clouds in oakland here the opposite, the golden gate bridge. look how you can see. you can see the hills on the north bay side. look at that. both towers. and a great easy drive coming across either direction. we do have a little more slowing that shows up at the bay bridge toll plaza, but the backup is not visible on our camera. so no use showing you that highway 37 holds with the only real slowing out of vallejo , a couple of chicklets have changed highway four. that's how closely we're watching for any changes. the commute right now looks great, except out of the altamont pass where we still have traffic jammed up approaching north flynn, where there's activity off of the roadway because of a big rig that's there, and a car fire that's been on southbound 101, but it looks like it's not causing an issue. back to you. all right, mike? well, breaking economy, the may jobs report released about 30 minutes ago today in the bay's alice barr,
6:03 am
joins us live from washington to break down those numbers. alice, much bigger number than we were looking for. yeah. scott. you know, i was messaging with your producer and he just said, wow, we because this is a lot more than we had been anticipating. the u.s. added 272,000 new jobs last month. that's far more than the 190,000 we told you last. our dow jones economists had predicted the average hourly wage increased an average of $0.14, or 0.4. and at the same time, the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 4% the first time it's reached that level since january 2022. the numbers of jobs added though counter fears of a potential slowdown in the labor market. in april, the economy added 175,000 new jobs. so, for context, there , we're talking nearly 100,000 more for the month of may, average hourly earnings rose a smaller than expected 0.2% in april compared to that 0.4% for
6:04 am
may, and the 4% unemployment that's ticked up from 3.9% in april, 3.8% the month before that. but here's the takeaway the bottom line is that this new may report makes it much less likely the federal reserve is going to move toward cutting interest rates. that is the thing that would affect so many folks out there that are looking for some relief. scott. yeah that's good news is bad news. all right. thank you so much. well, now i want to take you to a live look in normandy. this morning, france, where it's day three of president biden's visit, biden will take part in a tribute to american troops who served in world war two. biden is expected to deliver a wide ranging speech on a number of topics, including america's ties to its european allies, the war in ukraine and worldwide threats against democracy. he is also meeting with ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky today. the meeting between the two presidents comes only days after the white house reversed a ban and allowed ukraine to use u.s.

condemned around the world for the civilian death toll in the war in gaza. that includes an attack earlier this week where dozens were killed in an airstrike on a school. 605 on your friday morning happening today, governor gavin newsom will announce a new measure in the bay area for equal rights to marry. it's called the freedom to marry initiative. it will protect the fundamental right to marry regardless of gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. now, even though a marriage equality had been legalized in the united states, believe it or not, in california's constitution, it still says same sex couples are not allowed to marry. so this ballot measure would update the constitution to reflect current laws. newsom and community leaders will hold a conference about it in san francisco. 1030 this morning, volunteers almost ready to put up the pink triangle on twin peaks. it's the 29th pink triangle installation. about 700 volunteers will start putting up the pink tarps to make the triangle today. the triangle, a

gradual warming trend will be in the low 70s for early in the afternoon and eventually headed up to the mid 70s for later today in san jose it will be 84 degrees 80 in dublin, and martinez stays in the 70s. this afternoon in oakland, 71 and mid 60s in san francisco, while santa rosa will reach a high of 82 degrees. we'll talk about the weekend coming up. you might have to fill up before you hit the road. so mike, where are the prices? lower. we'll pick out a couple here because we did drop a few cents in many places. we dropped below four bucks. in fact, alameda county, livermore, foxy gasoline on old first street, 3.99. that's the best on our chart. south bay's low is in san jose, 4.39 at the valero on tully road and marin county's best offer is 449 at arco. that's at the bottom here of 449 arco on redwood highway. thank you for sharing on gasbuddy.com. we share the report as well for the traffic flow, and it's moving very nicely around most of the bay. we talked about a

car fire on the peninsula south 101 at redwoods and through redwood city. we're looking at the crash near rengstorff. i'm sorry, not redwood city. the crash did the car fire. did a report that people got out of the vehicle without any problems. and it doesn't look like there's any more issue, but there is still a fire below the car and the rest of the commute. look at this. east bay looks really light. back to you. thank you. mike well, putting a stop to shoplifting next on today in the bay. the new police like tools several department stores are using in hopes of deterring thieves. plus everywhere you look, everywhere there's a heart is a heart a hand to hold on to. wake up san francisco, the iconic home from full house, is up for sale, and just how much you'll need to cough up to make it yours. we'll be right back. you're watching today in the bay you are. the lone

here and in much of the north bay. we're going to have a cooler day. even in the valleys. we're starting out with upper 50s at 1:00 at 74 degrees. and that's about where our high temperature stops. so we are going to definitely be comfortable. we'll talk about the weekend and then another warm up ahead coming up in a few minutes. and right here not much ahead of you if you're traveling across that bridge from richmond to san rafael. 580 here looks really great. now. 580 back at

the altamont pass really jammed because of that continuing issue over at north phelan avenue road, the off ramp, i believe is fully open. and so is the lanes. as you pass out of the altamont pass, the backup because of a crash being handled with a big rig off the roadway. but here, 580 moves smoothly. we'll check the bay bridge because the metering lights are on. 612 on your friday morning, the futures show that the markets will open lower, but not much lower. this is not bad considering we just got news 272,000 jobs were added to the american economy in the month of may. that's a much bigger number than anyone was expecting. and remember, big numbers are bad when it comes to interest rate cuts. they don't come if a lot of jobs are added to the economy, nvidia's stock splits ten for one at the end of trading today, that will make the santa clara company's shares worth a 10th of what they were. the company stock hit a record high of more than $1,200 a share this week. now, with the split, the shareholders will then hold

the market for $6.5 million. it's in lower pacific heights along broderick street. handprints and concrete stones of the full house cast are also for sale. it's unclear how much those will cost. it should be noted, most of the full house was filmed at warner brothers studios in los angeles. only the exteriors of the home were shot in san francisco, but certainly iconic and a beauty big congratulate us this morning in our today in the bay family. look at mike inouye there. that is his son, mason, who graduated from high school yesterday. i can't believe it. so proud of mason. class of 2024. of course. congratulations to the entire family. takes a village. it does, it does, it does. mason has a he's he tells other people this. he's had big struggles with his anxiety. kept him out of actually in-person school back and forth. so he's done a tremendous amount of work in that area along with his schoolwork. and i'm so proud of him. really proud. yeah, we're very his his growth has been

amazing. yes. yeah, literally two when he was little. yeah. that too. yeah i mean this is not a high standard here. but still he's he's he's tall. yeah a lot to celebrate. yes. yes we're celebrating him, vicente, our producer says you want to call him? i'm like, you know, dude. you can finally sleep in. yeah. there you go. there you wait. i graduated high school. i'm. i'm sleeping in. yeah. wait a minute, wait a minute. high school. we should all have parties. all right, well, keep them starting this weekend. oh let's do better. yeah. congratulations to mason and all the graduates out there. we're going to have some beautiful weather for you. this weekend. lots of sunshine and cooler temperatures, too. here's a live look out there in san francisco as you're getting up and getting this friday started. we're right now in the mid 50s. we'll see the temperature trend headed for the low 60s. and you'll notice it's going to be windy today. there may be times when the wind is gusting 30 35mph, but that's also transport. getting that
6:17 am
cool ocean air to the inland valleys and keeping our temperatures down. so we'll be a little bit cooler in gilroy as you get the wind coming through the mountain gaps. but then for san jose, it's going to be in the mid 80s and up to 88 degrees in los gatos. and for the east bay, we're ranging from 71 degrees in oakland to 77 in martinez, 83 in concord and 84 in livermore. we're along the coastline only in the low 60s today, 64 in half moon bay in palo alto, 78 degrees and 71 in san mateo in san francisco, mostly in the 60s for today and you'll need a jacket all day long, but definitely not away from the coastline in the north bay and the valleys. we're going to be in the mid to upper 70s, even low 80s for santa rosa tomorrow. the temperatures are about the same wide ranging across the bay area, anywhere from low 60s at the coastline where it stays mostly foggy throughout the day. but then as you make your way up towards santa rosa, it's going to be 85 degrees and some upper 70s for
6:18 am
san jose. and a lot of these numbers are what's typical for early in june and also mid june. but we're also going to see those temperatures eventually heating up again. we're going to see san jose's high temperatures after a nice mild weekend spike up to 90 degrees on tuesday, and then come down just slightly for the rest of the week with some 80s. and then looking at our inland temperatures once again, comfortable temperatures giving the ac a rest for a little while before we have to crank it back up again for the middle of next week. san francisco keeps the natural ac with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s, and seems like it's been friday light across the bay area. correct here. the bay bridge with the metering lights have been on for about a half hour now, and we haven't really seen any backup visible on this camera from time to time. we see a few cars waiting over at the toll plaza, but really it's nice just past the toll plaza, slowing as we lose lanes coming up the incline and then everything's just fine. highway 37 maintains about the same amount of slowing. you
6:19 am
cross over merritt island and now more pronounced for highway four as folks are traveling through concord out of pittsburg and bay point. this continues with the biggest backup and the slowest drive up to northland road for westbound 580. the activity for the big rig that went off the roadway. still there. no injuries or no major injuries reported. so that's great news. look at this. even altamont pass road not really seeing a lot. there is more traffic building as folks try to use that as an alternate to get past the scene. and you can. but altamont pass road is not for the rookies. so just keep that in mind as we look at the rest of the bay, a smooth flow of traffic coming down through the south bay north 101 would typically pick up the volume a bit. we are seeing a little bit of slowing. another 20 minutes is when we'll usually monday through thursday see more slowing around that arch, but we'll see how that shapes up today. and over here, continued activity of that fire underneath the car. nobody inside that vehicle. but it is south 101 around rengstorff. so it could start to be a distraction as the volume may start to build a bit. we'll track it back to you. all right. mike, thanks. coming up next on today in the bay nbc bay

we'll be careful if you're headed out the door in the south bay, san jose, warning residents to be on the alert after another mountain lion sighting. it happened yesterday afternoon near kelly park. that's next to happy hollow zoo. it marks the fifth reported sighting in recent days. it comes as we're heading into warmer weather and a lot of people expected to be outdoors today in the base. thom jensen joins us live this morning. so, tom, do they think this is the same animal or possibly more than one. well, the one mountain lion expert that we did talk to from the puma project believes that this is just one mountain lion. they're not sure, but she said that, you know, a mountain lion can roam a large area, usually just is very nomadic and moves through an area. this one first sighted near milpitas on the 29th. and then over the past seven plus days, four more sightings, the last one right here in the kelly park area in san jose, people were posting about this one on x yesterday, and san jose pd searched another

turning to run clubs, as they're also trying to find love and we talked last hour and you were saying like, you know what? we want to get off those dating apps 100% and meet people on, meet people in person. yeah. like we want to get off the dating apps. we want to meet people organically, even if it's not like to date someone. we're out here meeting new friends, making new connections. and we're so diverse and such a multitude of people that you would never expect, like meeting and talking to. so it's super awesome being able to do that. and we are we have first timers here today. so many first timers, people come alone, people come in groups and everyone's welcome. like all paces, anyone from anywhere. so it doesn't really matter. okay. and as we talk about people running, they're going to pass us up because they're going to keep getting their workout in. thanks, guys. give it up, y'all. but really when we talk about, you know, dating and finding connection here, i asked that question, you know, kind of teasing. but talk to us about kind of the success rate. so far with people dating, connecting through the run club. we see everyone connecting from, like

and there is a brisk wind coming in onshore with a gust in san francisco at 34mph, and that transports that cool air over toward oakland, toward mount diablo, as well as concord into the delta. it's going to be a windy day, but once again, that's also the reason why we're getting some slightly cooler temperatures for much of the bay area. with a high of 82 in cupertino, but where we don't see that wind making it over the hills, it does heat up in los gatos. so you're going to see a high of 88. but where the wind flows through the mountain, gaps in gilroy, we're going to see a high of 84 today. definitely depending on where you are, it's going to be a cool in oakland. while in antioch, we're still warm, but not as warm as it has been. and we're only in the low 60s for half moon bay, while palo alto will see a high of 78 degrees, and in san francisco for the most part, we're staying in the 60s for today and in the north bay. it's in the 60s near the coast, but it is as hot as 96 and 97 degrees for clear lake and ukiah. looking at napa over

the next few days, we're going to enjoy a beautiful, nice, mild weekend. but then take a look at the heat coming our way for the middle of next week. temperatures peaking on tuesday at 93 degrees, and then we have that for a couple of days before the temperatures drop off. once again, it is that time of year where we're fighting against that onshore ocean breeze as well as that northerly wind. and when we do get a change in the wind direction, that has a huge impact on our temperatures. so we're getting that ocean breeze this weekend. temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s. and then as the wind calms down or turns direction, we'll see it warming up early next week. the san francisco is keeping it mild with upper 60s and low 70s. mike, you're saying that the nimitz is less hazardous now? yes, because i was talking about two hazards, one north and one south of the coliseum. north bound, cleared around 66. i don't know if it was ever really an issue southbound. the slowing and the incident cleared from the middle of the nimitz. and now look at this. that's great. coming off the castro valley way
