las vegas as well. we head into the weekend. temperatures still triple digits in vegas. triple digits in phoenix. it is still going to be well above normal in sacramento. and look at florida. these are the potential highs we could be seeing through sunday, from new orleans all the way down to west palm beach. the heat index will feel like 101 in new orleans, 104 in corpus christi. miami will feel like 102. sunday the heat index has continued with 104 in key west. pensacola 98. in new orleans, you will feel like 101. please keep an eye on the elderly and your pets as well because they can really suffer in this kind of weather. guys? >> thank you so much. we will check back with you in a bit. now the latest from hunter biden's gun trial. prosecutors are set to rest their case after dramatic testimony from hallie biden, the widow of the president's late son beau who later had a romantic relationship with hunter. ryan nobles joins us from wilmington, delaware.

hey, ryan. good morning. >> reporter: hoda, good morning. hallie biden's testimony was heart-breaking at times. she accused the president's son of introducing her to crack and said she thought he was meeting drug dealers and using drugs at the time he bought the gun. hallie biden, the widow of hunter biden's late brother beau relationship for him at a time received his crack use was at one point a constant presence in her life and led to her trying the drug as well. i'm embarrassed and ashamed of that period of my life. prosecutors are attempting to prove that hunter lied on a federal form. hunter biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges. hallie capturing the attention of the jury, outlining her relationship with hunter, saying she would sometimes accompany

him to buy drugs and saying she saw hunter with crack balls the size of ping-pong balls. hallie seen her in this surveillance video played in court found the gun in hunter's truck and then drove it to a nearby grocery store to throw it away. she said she got rid of the gun because, quote, i didn't want him to hurt myself or my kids to find it and hurt themselves, adding, i realize it was a stupid idea now but i was just panicking. the prosecution also introducing a text message hunter sent hallie around the time he bought the gun where he wrote, i was sleeping in a car smoking crack. she described hunter as a habitual liar. you have no idea whether he was just saying that or whether he was actually there. correct, hallie said. she never witnessed hunter doing drugs in october of 2018. meanwhile, as the trial moves

to prison. the shooting happened last april at the home depot on johnson drive in pleasanton, off of 580 loss prevention worker blake mohs was shot and killed while he was trying to stop two shoplifters under a plea deal. the shooter, benicia knapps, will serve 19 years to life for second degree murder and enhancements. david guillory, the getaway driver who fled with naps two year old in the car, will serve a little over seven years. good morning. i'm thom jensen in san jose, where there have been five cougar sightings in just eight days, and people are putting their pets in at night to keep them safe. an expert tells us to make sure you never run from a mountain lion because it will chase after you. the best thing to do is to look at it, yell and look as big as you can. we have more on this mountain lion sighting, all of them coming up on the midday news on nbc bay area at 11. and that's concerning because so many people are headed outside. finally. the weather is going to be nice. carrie. yes, it's going to be a great weekend. we are

back to italy as many times as its takes to clear her name. speaking in italian, she insists, i am a victim. insists, i am a victim. i didn't slander anyone. the seattle native was found guilty for accusing a bar owner of killing her roommate in the days after the 2007 murder. knox would eventually be convicted of the murder herself, along with her then boyfriend rafael. a verdict that was eventually overturned after they spent four years in an italian jail. knox saying i have been unjustly accused. four years the truth. knox says she didn't sleep the night after the verdict and that she is upset but determined, calling the court's decision an injustice. also speaking out in her own podcast. >> you know, this is 17 years

that i have been wrongly convicted of this crime. and i was 20 years old when thig with this open wound happened, and i have been living with this open wound and with this incredible stigma. >> reporter: in her interview on thursday, the now 36-year-old repeated the allegation that italian police tortured her during the investigation, repeating she is not guilty of slander and she did not murder her roommate. she says the police pressured her to implicate her. the police previously denied the accusation. the crime made international headline for years. the 21-year-old was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in the house she shared with knox. the toll that the nearly two decade long ordeal has taken clearly heard in knox's voice. >> i can survive this, and i will keep fighting it, but it's hard. >> stephanie, she says she will keep fighting this legal case.

in a few moments. meanwhile, a frightening moment for the nfl champion kansas city chiefs. a young player suffering a seizure, then going into cardiac arrest at the team's practice facility. this morning defensive end bj thompson is in stable condition, though. morgan chesky has more from los angeles. >> reporter: a frightening moment for sure. this did not happen on a football field but during a team meeting. fortunately team doctors and trainers were able to treat thompson almost immediately here. it is a response that experts are crediting with potentially saving his life. this morning bj thompson recovering following a medical emergency. sources say the 25-year-old thompson appeared to suffer a seizure and go cardiac arrest during a team meeting thursday.
