multiple fires burn across california. the post fire in los angeles county's first major blaze of the year and has devoured more than 14,000 acres. it's only 2% contained. some 1200 people were forced to evacuate from the hungry valley recreation area over the weekend. in sacramento county, a fast-moving brushfire threatened homes and livestock, so far scorching nearly 900 acres. and in butte county, evacuation orders are now lifted as crews are taking the junes fire which is now 82% contained. danica hill from our sacramento affiliate kicks off our coverage. >> reporter: the butte county sheriff's office issuing evacuation orders around 4:00 p.m. as the junes fire quickly spread. >> primarily, when we have a fire that we may not be able to catch just because of the speed that it's moving, we start looking really far out in front of it to find out what it is that we need to do. so it becomes less about the firefight than it does about the

public safety. >> reporter: at least two structures damaged in the blaze as fire crews use a number of resources to battle the flames. >> it a lot. we had law enforcement, chp, working officers from cal fire, 24 fire engines, four water tenders, two air tanker, two helicopters and three bulldozers. and four cal fire hand crews. we know that the origin was on poor junes road right off to my left. >> reporter: a dozer line created to block the fire from further spreading and evacuation orders lifted. >> just because the fire is not actively moving anymore, it doesn't mean that we're done because cal fire's policy is to put out every single last pit of smoke out there. and to check the entire fire every square foot. so that's what we do. we're doing the mop-up phase and putting out hot spots really

juneteenth celebration in a park near austin. another 14 were wounded be i gunfire, police say. most have been released from the hospital, though. the victims range in age from 10 to 60. police are looking for the suspect they consider armed and dangerous. a $5,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information leading to his arrest. let's turn now to the race for the white house. the biden campaign said it's raised more than $30,000 at a star-studded fundraiser breaking the record for any democratic party event. nbc has reached out to the dnc to confirm that record. alice, good morning. this included some important discussions. what did the president have to say? >> good morning, frances. that's right. president biden sat down for a wide ranging conversation at the event that featured former president obama and was moderated be late night host jimmy kimmel. the three men took aim at donald trump, bringing up his recent convictions and other legal issues.
3:36 am
president biden warned that if his opponent is elected, one of the serious aspects would be the impact on the supreme court. >> the next president is likely to have two new supreme court nominees, two more. two more. the idea that if he's reelected he is going to point two more flags upside down is really -- i really mean it. look, the supreme court has never been as out of kilters a it is today. i mean, never. . >> meanwhile, over the weekend, the trump campaign launched a new effort to grow support among black voters. the former president held a round table event at a church in detroit. speaking to the community there, mr. trump framed president obama as a threat to black americans referencing a 1994 crime bill authored by then senator biden. in a statement, a spokesperson for the biden campaign says the trump campaign's 11th hour

conference, and moscow's key ally china did not attend. for the latest, let's go to claudio lavanga who is following the story for us. good morning. what more did the countries agree on? >> the u.n. charter as well as respect for integrity and sovereignty in ukraine should serve as the basis for a just and lasting peace. now let's take a listen to what jake sullivan, the national security adviser had to say about that. >> the vision of peace that was put forward here today from so many different countries, rooted in principles all of us signed up to. rooted in principles all of us would like to live in a world that are ruled by those principles because they make us all safe. this is the right vision as we go forward. >> now the demand for integrity in ukraine clashes completely with what russian president vladimir putin said ahead of that peace summit.
3:39 am
he said that the war will not end until ukraine withdraws from the four provinces russia claims to have annexed since the start of the war. but kyiv and its western allies say that is not a peace offering but a request to surrender. now as you mention, china and russia were not there at the summit, but also perhaps the final declaration was weakened. but the 78 countries that signed it did not persuade many other countries, especially in the global south to sign it. and also no country offered to become a most for the follow-up peace summit. now perhaps the best way the describe the outcome of this peace summit came from the president of switzerland, who in their closing remarks said the road to peace is long and challenging. frances? >> laudclaudio lavanga, thank y. right now back to our weather. and good luck trying to beat the heat this week. michelle grossman is tracking the big summer warm-up. good morning. >> good morning. it's going to be a tough one

we're back this morning with the story from the edge of the climate crisis. coastal erosion in california from record rainfall is contributing to a new challenge, shrinking beaches across the state. liz kreutz reports on the effort to save them. >> reporter: it's one of the most iconic parts of california, the sprawling beaches. but after two years of record rainfall, now a growing conundrum. how to save the state's crumbling coastlines. >> the volleyball court was where the rocks were. >> reporter: marianne and duke stroud live smack on the beach in the city of oceanside, which has lost 45 feet of sand since 2000. >> we've had the volleyball in our front yard. >> reporter: when marianne's family moved here in the 40s, it looked nothing like it does today. there. >> really is no beach. the beach is gone. >> reporter: shrinking beaches in the area are in part due to man made projects, but locals
