resources that we have right now, air and ground, hopefully we're able to contain this fire sooner rather than later. now, we also know that firefighters managed to save hundreds of those homes. we're also getting reports into our newsroom right now that cal fire rescued a man. this was near the mountain view road. and you can see right here from this video. it's dark, but you can see that man was actually carried out by a helicopter from that area. we're not exactly sure how he was injured. our photographer on the scene says that it is possible that he was hit by a fallen tree branch. our bob redell is heading there to the fire zone this morning. he'll have a live report in our next half hour. let's check within meteorologist kari hall monitoring those red flag conditions. good morning. yeah. good morning and so we've been watching these conditions that have caused these fires to spread very quickly and throughout throughout the day today we will have a red flag warning in effect for much of the central valley into some of our north bay hills and valleys. and it does include much of

solano county as well as in napa county over towards sonoma county and then into southern lake county this morning, because of those fires burning, we're also seeing that smoke moving into much of the north bay, mostly locally. we're seeing the worst of that smoke in the poorest of the air quality, but it will begin to shift around as we go throughout the day. more of a northerly wind is going to push that smoke into the east bay, as well as much of the rest of the bay area for this afternoon, and we're also going to see the wind direction change, how hazy it looks, or if you're smelling any smoke throughout today and into tomorrow. so that point, fire, spare the air alert does include the north bay and into the inland east bay for today and tomorrow. if you are going to be heading out and about, you do want to make sure that you're wearing a mask. you're limiting your time outside and also just trying to avoid the smoke as much as possible. and heading over to you. mike, you were looking at that drive into san

already breezy in san francisco. the temperature down to 52 degrees. a cool start, but it's even cooler right now in san rafael at 46. and then here's a look at our highs for this afternoon. headed for 84 in napa, 83 in novato. so overall it's going to be a nice and comfortable day. the only issue will be that smoke coming in from the fire. and hopefully there will be some more containment today. and it's going to be a little bit warmer in santa rosa with a high of 86 degrees, 71 in san francisco and low 80s for much of the south bay into the day tomorrow. we're also looking at some fairly mild weather for this time of year, just slightly warmer in some of our inland valleys. so concord, we're going to see a high of 88 degrees, and tomorrow afternoon it will be in the mid 80s for much of the south county. so i'll be tracking that. we'll talk about the changes. we'll see as we go through the week. coming up, mike's been trying to find us some lower gas prices. hey and happy monday. we have the best price in the state. woohoo! it's in livermore. it's again. but this time it's 349.

honored a quarter century later at new york's city's tribeca film festival. why are we still talking about the sopranos 25 years later? why? because the writing was incredible. because of streaming, it's all over the world. more people watch the sopranos now than watched it when it was on. originally oh, the power of streaming. that's this morning. also, he's like, why do were we still watching this? why can't we forget about it? that's what he should have asked. all right. coming up on the today show, 7 a.m. right after today in the bay. you know, a good show is a good show. that's right. lives on pretty much forever is another one. that was kind of. it was caught on late. that's a weird phenomenon. boom. all of a sudden i loved it. yeah. and then so those guys are getting a lot of commercials now. but there may not be in the reboot i don't know. we'll see what happens. interesting. yeah. they're talking about doing one like an la version of it. pink shirts, swimsuits, swimsuits. that's what it'll be. swimsuits. oh, that was air dated. baywatch. all right, well, some places maybe you wore a swim

suit today. warm enough, it'll be kind of cool at the coast, but warm in the valley. since our microclimate. and we're also going to have some gusty winds. probably not the best beach day, but we are also feeling some more comfortable air across much of the rest of the bay area. this is a look at our view live in dublin. that's that reminder that we are approaching the longest days of the year. sunrise is very early and sunsets very late, but during the middle of the day we are getting these breezy winds kicking up that's causing us to have another high fire danger. so for the north bay and east bay hills will be under a red flag warning, that means that humidity will be low enough and the wind will be high enough that if we do get additional fires, they could spread very quickly. and you do need to always be alert as far as the relative humidity, when we have high amounts of humidity will, that causes the fires to spread more slowly. and we're looking at the humidity levels changing throughout the day. highest in the morning in the 70 to 80% range, which is very humid. but then when we start to see those
5:20 am
numbers dipping, well, that means that the air is extremely dry and the grasses are dry. so we have a fire risk where, if anything does spark in the grass, there will most likely be a fire that will continue to spread in that area. the brush is also very dry. when you look at how much moisture is within that, the trees, larger trees and just overall, regionally, we are seeing a moderate risk as we approach these very dry days. you want to make sure that you have the defensible space around your home. you're avoiding cigaret litter. that's very important because all of these fires are started by people. and so you don't want to drive on any dry grass. and also secure any tote chains, and then also use grills on paved surfaces. so looking at once again that humidity level that starts out high. and then as the air becomes more dry, we are going to see our temperatures rising into the upper 70s and low 80s. today so the heat is not that big of a deal for us. it's
5:21 am
mainly the humidity that's going to be very low, and those high winds, it's also still very comfortable for tomorrow. for most of us with upper 80s inland and then slightly cooler on wednesday. and this is when we see the shift of that onshore wind that not only brings down the temperatures, but also increases our humidity. and that's the way we're going to start our first day of summer on thursday. really nice, mild temperatures, but we look ahead to the weekend where it's going to be heating up back into the 90s in the inland areas. and we're also going to continue to see some extremely dry conditions in terms of our relative humidity. so we'll be watching out for all of that as we see some slight changes this week. and mike, you were checking out a fire in san jose. yeah. well, kari, you just talked about those conditions. so any reports of fire? we are very concerned here. this is alongside highway 87 are just near one of the underpasses. so that often happens in the brush near the freeway. but we'll continue to follow that. and i'll let you know if anything else develops. hopefully we'll just get the all clear pretty soon. the rest of the freeways
5:22 am
will. the traffic's all clear for silicon valley. we do still have this crash. as you're getting off of the dumbarton bridge over to newark, right around the toll plaza, two out of your three lanes may be affected, but no slowing shows up. we'll watch that. no injuries reported from that crash. a smooth drive so vasco road yet? you're kind of your minimum. we see for the morning. 580 slows out of the altamont pass, but nothing dramatic. most of the slowing is on 205 coming out of tracee. and over here. still no detail and no slowing shows up for that to crash coming toward the carquinez bridge just before 780. but we do see that slowdown just starting now, coming across merritt island out of vallejo and over toward novato for westbound 37 and westbound 80. that's the bay bridge, a smooth drive getting into the city. what a beautiful view that is. and a beautiful drive back to you. all right, mike, thanks. 522 right now and next year on today in the bay. nbc bay area responds. you reserved your hotel. you reserved your flight. but have you reserved your spot in the tsa line? i'm consumer investigator chris chmura in some places you can and save tons of time. we'l

talking about is called clear reserve, and it's your ticket to bypass the tsa line. here's how you reserve a time slot in advance to clear airport security. when we made this video, clear reserve was available at these airports. sorry, san francisco bay area. no sfo, sjc or oakland yet. i used clear reserve recently in orlando. let me show you how easily it worked. the day before my flight i went to clear me.com. next i clicked for you at the top and then reserve. originally i tried to book seven days out but it wouldn't let me and told me to check back closer to my flight. the clear website says the booking window varies by location. the rest of the process only took about 90s. i shared basic information like my name, my destination, my flight number, and how many people were in my party. side note ten. that's the max. next clear asked me when i wanted to clear the security checkpoint. i had a 6 a.m. flight, so i asked for a 5 a.m. slot. within a few seconds,

clear emailed me a qr code, my ticket to bypass the tsa line on my travel day. i just showed my qr code to a clear rep who directed me to the clear reserve line. i was first in line. meanwhile, i would say there are about 200 people in the regular tsa line. try to be punctual and clear. says it only holds those reserved spots for 20 minutes after your reservation time. after that, you're back in the regular line. all right, well, up next, top stories. we're following today, including breaking news, the wildfire that's forcing evacuations in wine country. we'll have live team coverage on the containment and the expected impact. as you can imagine, on air qlity, you're watuach

right. good morning to you. i'm marcus washington. i'm scott mcgrew in for laura. we are such good friends, but both of our mics can be on at the same time. it's amazing. let's get right to that. breaking news team coverage. the point. fire burning in the north bay. meteorologist kari hall monitoring the air quality and the conditions that they're going to face. but first, let's get over to bob redell. he is live for us in sonoma county this morning. and bob, you're closer to that area. what are the conditions right now? well, you can definitely smell the fire here. we're in downtown or near downtown healdsburg. this fire is roughly maybe 5 to 8 miles in that direction. it's just over a thousand acres, according to cal fire. and only 15% contained. but if you're even here in healdsburg, the way the winds are, you can smell the smoke. it's not overwhelming, but you are aware that there's something burning out there. a fire crews, they are working around houses in the evacuation zones and have saved hundreds of structures already. but the point fire did claim two homes. many more are still threatened.
5:32 am
the operator of a horse riding ranch above lake sonoma called off planned rides yesterday when the fire started just after 1230. she's hoping it continues to move the fire away from her property. as it stands, we're not in the evacuation zone because the fire's going the opposite direction. but, if they do evacuate us, then we'll be ready to go. it's still pretty far away from most things, so we're hoping. but i mean, i have stuff that i still have packed from the last fires. there are some people who live up there who are under mandatory evacuation. cal fire is hoping that everyone heeds those evacuations of mandatory evacuations, because the wind and the terrain make this fire very unpredictable. and in the steep hillsides, they're covered in manzanita, madrone and oak trees, which are all very flammable, especially now that we've had a lot of hot weather recently. they're probably drier than they would have been, let's say, a few months ago. reporting live here in healdsburg, bob
5:33 am
redell. today in the bay. all right, bob, thanks. want to check in with meteorologist kari hall because, kerry, we know that the conditions are a big role in the firefight out there for those firefighters. how is it looking for us? well, we are looking good. this morning, but unfortunately, as we go throughout the day, the air will get drier and the wind will be picking up. let's get a look at the location of where that fire started near skaggs and skaggs spring road. and at that time we had winds that were gusting 20 to 30mph. and then taking a look at the current conditions, the temperature has come down to 53 degrees. the relative humidity is at 66. that relative humidity is a very important number at this time of day, because the higher that number is, the slower the fire tends to spread. all of that humidity in the air keeps the fire from spreading so rapidly. and we're getting a light wind at this time. but it may pick up as we go throughout today. so we are still going to have a red flag warning. that means that there will be ripe conditions for fires that do
5:34 am
spark start to spread quickly. the low humidity, as well as winds that could pick up 15 to 35mph will elevate that fire danger. as far as the smoke, as of right now, it's staying locally in parts of the north bay, but will be spreading into the east bay as we go into this evening, so we'll continue to monitor our air quality. there may be times when we may want to limit our time outside. and mike, you're hearing about a fire in san jose. so what's going on? follow up. this is not a brush fire. we got detailed chp says it's actually a vehicle. one of those little bobcats i think those little bulldozer things. so that may be what's on fire there. it sounds like no structures and no brush on the side. they should get that under control. we don't see any slowing anyways. that's the update. i want to let you know. i don't think it will really spread, but we're tracking the south bay with an easy drive right now. no slowing on northbound one just yet. we do have a little bit of slowing that shows up. getting off the dumbarton bridge east 84 around the toll plaza. they may have crews arriving to clear the vehicles from the earlier crash. we're looking over here. no crash on the bay bridge, just
5:35 am
more traffic. you see that volume squeezing into fewer lanes. just as they pass those metering lights, you start to lose those lanes. that's the way the bridge is configured and this is the way the commute goes. you'll find slowing now. thank you mike. the search continues for people involved in a sideshow. i mean, you saw this on on video police. somebody attacked a police patrol car and prevented the officer inside from getting out. and helping an injured bystander. let's go to today in the bay kris sanchez. she's live for us this morning over at the san jose police department. and chris, i understand the chief has an important message for those who are attending those sideshows. well, hi there, marcus and scott. so the chief says they are using all available resources to track down the people who are responsible for this. now, this was a video circulating on social media of the sideshow that happened just before 7:00 on saturday night near santana row. the car at the center is the san jose police cruiser with a reserve officer inside. the officer was flagged
5:36 am
down by people who witnessed a bystander injured in that sideshow. we talked with a legal analyst who says the culprits really face serious charges from felony assault on a police officer to felony vandalism, acting san jose police chief paul joseph issued a statement saying he will work with the district attorney to ensure that once arrested, the suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. the chief is not the only one who's frustrated. it's really unfortunate and frustrating, for somebody like myself who likes to walk a lot and not feel comfortable knowing that these kind of things are starting to happen even during the day. so this happened around the 7:00 hour on a saturday night. so if you live in san jose, you know how busy that santana row area is with all of the restaurants and bars and shopping there. so it really could have been a much more dangerous situation. again, the police chief says they are going to find these culprits and that what they did was deplorable. in

san jose, kris sanchez today in the bay. all right, chris, thank you. well, fremont police are investigating the shooting by an officer that injured a carjacking suspect. this happened yesterday morning on osgood road. now, police say that officers near auto mall parkway tracked down a man who stole a van, who then led them on foot chase. they say that he was armed with a knife prior to police arrival. the suspect fled the scene on foot. at that time, he was armed with a knife. shortly thereafter, uniformed patrol officers made contact with the individual on osgood road, at that time, during the contact, one of the officers on scene did discharge his service weapon one time, striking the suspect. now, there's no update on the suspect's condition, but he is said to be stable. police are reviewing patrol car and body camera footage before making another statement. no officers were injured. well to

the grapevine that's burning just 70 miles north of los angeles. it started saturday night and has burned nearly 15,000 acres. it is only 2% contained as of this morning. there are evacuation orders for the surrounding counties now. meteorologist kari hall of course, tracking those conditions. first responders are now facing in that area. and kari, i mean, it's tough out there right now. it is tough. i mean, look at how much of the central valley and some of our mountains are included in a red flag warning. that means we'll have low humidity and high wind. those conditions together means that these fires may continue to spread very rapidly. we are seeing some higher humidity and some lighter winds this morning should hopefully help with more containment, but this is such a big issue with so many fires burning across the state. we are, at least for now, getting some pretty good air quality as our temperatures come down and we're getting a breezy wind. but the wind will increase today and a northerly wind tends to be drier. it dries out the vegetation even more and then we're looking at the winds

increasing up to 25 to 35mph. these areas in red will be where the fire is gusting the highest as we go throughout today. so as we go into this afternoon, 25 30 mile per hour winds that will eventually calm down. but at least our temperatures are still mild. so here's a look at our highs for today. check out your microclimate where we're going to see temperatures ranging from 68 near the coast to 88 for the inland valleys. fairfield as well as concord the hottest up to 88 degrees. and mike seems like so far the commute is pretty calm for a monday. yeah, it is for a monday. we're looking at just a gradual build for 37. the bay bridge has seen the biggest change in the last ten minutes, more slowing at the incline and the metering lights. well there will be slowing at the toll plaza itself. no surprises. a nice drive down the east shore freeway give us a second to look around the rest of the bay. this crash has just been cleared. we talked about a little slowing showing up. i thought that was crews pulling the cars away, and i think they have cleared from eastbound at the dumbarton bridge toll plaza. a couple of incidents for the

still on many people's minds, there is some new light there of a little known condition that can actually greatly impact new fathers. it is called prenatal mental health disorder. now the condition can affect all partners, but researchers say that it actually can impact impact. 10% of fathers during pregnancy and the year following birth. nearly 20% of fathers can be diagnosed with a clinically significant anxiety disorders at some point during that time, and it often goes unreported. also, doctors say only one quarter of those who suffer from this actually receive help. parent educators are usually focused on telling fathers your job is protect, provide, you know, support your partner. all of that is important. it's just that fathers also need to hear there's a good chance that you might get depressed, that you might have anxiety, that you might feel alone. now for men, depressive symptoms can show up a little differently. sometimes depression can make fathers irritable, isolated, or even

angry, even manifest itself in the physical symptoms like migraines. now, if you or someone you know might be feeling this way, you can actually visit the postpartum dot net website to get more information important to talk about. all right. let's talk about this because is epic time. the wait for one stanford graduate. that's virginia hislop . she is celebrating moment decades in the making. my goodness i've waited a long time . she waited 84 years for this. she is 105. originally attended stanford in 1940 as a student from yakima, washington. she was one paper away from getting her master's in education when, on the eve of the second world war and the military transferred her husband to oklahoma. now she did go on to a lifetime of success education, never missing the

day as we take a live look outside in dublin. we can see all the cars, the headlights coming in through the tri-valley , as we're also going to have a beautiful day. here's the concern. the red flag warning for parts of the north bay and the east bay, napa, sonoma, lake and solano counties are included in that high fire danger, especially in the hills where the humidity will be lower as we take a live look outside, our beautiful view of san francisco. as we're getting this monday started, we're going to continue with sunshine for today. right now it's 52 degrees and breezy. as we go throughout the morning, we can see the trend where you'll need a jacket throughout the morning, but much more comfortable. at noon will be in the upper 60s and eventually reaching into the 70s. but let's talk about this relative humidity. it's so important on days like this, because we do have quite a few fires burning across the state. and of course, the one that we're focused on in the north bay. the point fire, where we're seeing humidity levels anywhere from the 50 to
5:54 am
70 to 80% range. so higher humidity to start out the day and the more moist and humid the areas, the slower those fires tend to spread. but when we start to see humidity levels dropping into the 20s and teens, that is very dry air. and you add in a wind and it dries out the vegetation even more, and the fires that do develop can spread very quickly. so we do need to be very careful today, even though temperature wise it's not really that hot. we're feeling some normal temperatures for this time of year, but it's that dry northerly wind that we're going to see throughout today as our highs head for 80 degrees in san jose, 88 in concord, a little bit warmer there. but compared that to the 60s and 70s we're seeing near the coast and in much of the north bay will be in the low 80s for today. tomorrow is slightly warmer for spots like santa rosa with a high of 86 degrees. we're still up to 80 in fremont and 86 in morgan hill, and then all of our temperatures start to come
5:55 am
down on wednesday. this is our last day of spring and then summer begins on thursday. we're going to have some nice spring like weather. but then looking ahead in san jose, our ten day temperatures, we are going to have a warmer weekend going from 80s to low 90s saturday. actually the warmest day in the forecast. and then it comes down a few degrees from sunday into early next week. so we are going to have that spike in temperatures over the next few days. but we're still enjoying some comfortable weather. but the wind and the low humidity is the main issue that we're going to see here. and we do have to be very careful with this fire danger looking at san francisco up to 74 today, but mainly in the 60s throughout much of the week. mike, that commute starting to build up some no surprises, but starting to build, which is not a surprise either. highway 37. the bay bridge highway four just showing some slowing, but now just popped up here southbound. 242 coming down in toward pleasant hill and also westbound. oh, look at that. they just changed. it looked like magic like that.
5:56 am
that's not good magic. that's bad magic. slowing traffic down a bit for the upper east shore freeway. not my fault. you guys are the ones that are out there. we're looking at a smooth drive for the south bay minor crash here. 680 at 101 out of the lanes, and that fire on the side of the road, that little tractor there, it looks like no one is injured, and there's not even a crew on scene to cause any slowing. we have north 101 just starting that little build. typical at this time. just before 6:00, actually, maybe a few minutes later there and a little bit later here for the build into hayward out of san leandro. so maybe a little lighter traffic back to you. all right. speaking of traffic, mike, of some sort happening now for you east bay drivers, they may now face fines for parking in a bus lane. yeah ac transit is using automated enforcement to issue citations to drivers who blocked bus lanes between oakland and san leandro. the busses now also have cameras that can actually detect if cars are in the lane. those cameras will be taken. they will actually take an image and then send it to transit law enforcement to write that ticket. each ticket can cost you up to $100, and anyone can be

fined, including taxis, rideshare drivers and delivery trucks. we continue to follow breaking news in the north bay. fire crews hard at work at the front lines at the point fire in sonoma county. this amid windy conditions, worsening air quality. team coverage is. the wildfire season continues to wrap up. plus still on the market, real estate in san francisco not moving as quickly as it used to. we'll break down the new numbers from redfin as to why the buyers are stalling. remember nbc bay area streaming 24/7. watch us whenever on roku, pluto, or other streaming platforms you're watching today in
