the same area. just a few days ago. gunshots rang out wednesday night after an unsanctioned juneteenth event, resulting in chaos. 15 people shot and several police officers assaulted. today, a very different scene at the lake. nbc bay area's alyssa goard has a look at what organizers and police did to keep the event safe and welcoming. make this grand national houseless people poured into oakland's lake fest at lake merritt to find, live music, dancing, animals and no shortage of food. organizers say last year, about 20,000 people showed up and it's safe to say thousands were there this year, too. we are doing this for you. we are doing this for us. like we really need this. this is the fifth annual lake fest here in oakland. it's designed to be family friendly and there are people of all ages here. i kidding, anytime. it's my birthday. rhonda lynn waterman, who says she's lived in oakland her entire life, spent her day

here. it's like, should we come or shouldn't we come because they have the juneteenth thing. but i said, let's go for it. on wednesday night, 15 people were shot near lake merritt as an unsanctioned juneteenth event wound down and an illegal sideshow broke out. police say they haven't made any arrests in connection to the shooting. it's unfortunate. i feel for the victims, vendors told us seeing officers patrolling the event helped them feel more at ease. i'm glad that they took precaution for this event so that everyone that was coming out, as well as the vendors, we feel more safe. organizers closed off the event with a fence for the first time this year and checked all bags, things they say were planned even before wednesday's shooting . we also have an extra amount of officers out here working today to provide a visual presence and visual deterrence. opd also stepped up patrols. even chief floyd mitchell was

walking around the festival. i feel safe, i feel safe. for many, this event was a needed dose of joy in their community. alyssa goard, nbc bay area news. we got a huge turnout tonight, but still no sign of oakland mayor sheng thao after federal agents searched her home on thursday. several agencies, including the irs and postal service, sent agents to the mayor's home as well as several properties linked to the wong family. that's a family that owns california waste solutions, the company that holds the city's recycling contract. the fbi says no arrests were made. now yesterday, mayor tao's lawyer said she's willing to cooperate with the investigation and has nothing to hide. tao plans to hold a news conference sometime next week. new at 11 a disturbing theft in the east bay. thieves followed. a woman then stole her purse out of her car. are on a freeway off ramp. police say the woman left the nordstrom in walnut creek and followed by thieves. they tailed

her car onto southbound 680, and when she exited at el cerro boulevard in danville, the thieves broke her window and snatched her purse. the chp is investigating. unfortunately, we have seen this before. in april, two women were the victims of similar incidents in vallejo, this one caught on camera and went viral on tiktok. the women were in their car stopped at red lights here. that's when the thieves rushed up and broke the car windows. those robbers were also after the purses and backpacks in the front seat, a dramatic scene off a contra costa county highway. a man was airlifted to the hospital after being ejected during a crash. it happened earlier this evening on byron highway. police say the man driving a classic hotrod pickup lost control and veered off the road. the driver was ejected out of the truck, which caught on fire after impact. he was airlifted to the hospital. no word on how he's doing. pg&e was also called because the crash brought down some electrical wires, fire crews are making progress on two major wildfires that have been burning

for a week now, the agency says more than 2600 firefighters were busy today, mostly mopping up the sites. fire that's in colusa county. this new video shows the work crews have done to get that fire under control. now that sites fire is the largest fire in the state. but despite burning nearly 20,000 acres and threatening more than 300 structures, cal fire says no buildings have even been damaged. that fire, 38% contained. now, sonoma county fire crews also are closer to containing the point fire. that one has burned more than 1200 acres between geyserville and las lomas. this fight hasn't been painless, though. one firefighter was hurt. three structures destroyed. flames damaged two others. that fire is now 85% contained. the city of martinez is taking wildfires seriously as the temperatures rise. first responders held a drill to help prepare neighbors to evacuate during a fire today. it centered on two streets in the city at risk of wildfires. police went door to door just like they would under real

evacuation orders. neighbors were encouraged to join in and to meet at a rally point in ignacio plaza. former president trump is signaling he knows who he's going to ask to be his running mate. the presumptive gop nominee told reporters today. he has made up his mind about his pick for vice president. when asked if his pick knows it's them, mr. trump responded that no, nobody else knows. sources close to the trump campaign have identified three frontrunners for the position. florida senator marco rubio, ohio senator jd vance and north dakota governor doug burgum. mr. trump has said he may announce his choice at the republican national convention in milwaukee next month. well, weeks of negotiations in sacramento are over. governor newsom and state lawmakers have reached an agreement over the final 20 2425 state budget. newsom and democrats, who control the state legislature struck that deal today. spending plan comes to $298 billion. leaders solved the nearly $47

billion deficit with $16 billion in cuts. they also declared a statewide fiscal emergency in order to pull the remaining funds from california's rainy day reserve. as for that $16 billion in cuts, that comes in part from a delay in the minimum wage increase for health care workers, reduction of some affordable housing funds and slashing $750 million from the state prison system. well, two south bay italian restaurants founded by cousins more than half a century ago, said ciao to customers and the homes away from home where they raised their families for more than three generations. nbc bay area's thom jensen was there tonight as both restaurants baked their final pizzas and layered their last lasagnas for packed houses. reporter this has been home for vince pezzella since he was a 16 year old at mountain view high school. we've been here three generations. this is the fourth generation, but the three generations, and we've seen people come and go and many of those customers have been coming back since the

pezzella family announced two weeks ago. they're closing their doors for good after 67 years in business. they're sorry. we're leaving. you're going to miss us, and we're going to miss them, too. eight miles away, the same sentiments and turnout for the final night of business at fiorillo's restaurant in santa clara today. i'll tell you, that line was all the way around the building. we had to open up before we were even opened. rene fiorillo grew up in the restaurant her father, vince, founded, and ran with her mom for more than five decades. mom says closing was a tough decision, but the right one. we all got together, the whole family and just decided. both restaurants have been operated by the same family since day one, and many of the employees are family members who started working there as children. others are just like family. after working at the restaurants for most of their lives. 40 years for us being here, you know, third generation, it's been it's been wonderful. i'll miss all the wonderful people and all the friends that we've met over the years going to be different. when i wake up

customer data and making it next to impossible for dealerships to sell cars. nbc's jesse kirsch has the story. you're trying to buy or service a car tonight. you might have to pump the brakes because of cyber attacks. potentially slowing down business at thousands of car dealers. address. vehicle price, customer name. that kind of stuff like titling information. obviously you got to make sure your date of birth full name are correct at toyota in waterford, michigan, eric shlensky says normally software from cdk global helps with that information. it is what we run

all the car deals out of all the repair orders for service, all the parts orders in austintown, ohio, justin bradley says his team at gymshark auto group has been using a typewriter. we are hand doing contracts and hand doing paperwork. that means it's been taking longer for customers to buy a car. the challenges arising after software provider cdk global said it experienced two cyber incidents this week and proactively shut down most of our systems today. the company adding we have begun the restoration process. we anticipate that the process will take several days to complete cdk says it works with more than 15,000 retail locations in north america. it's not clear how many dealerships are impacted, but cybersecurity expert katie brooks says these challenges reach beyond the auto industry. this incident is part of a growing trend of cyber attacks towards small and medium sized businesses across the country. it is very much a crime of opportunity and a crime of

financial gain, and so if there is money involved, there is the chance that this could happen, brooks says. it's too soon to know the impact on things like personal data, as the auto industry tonight navigates a bumpy road, jessi kirsch, nbc news. apple's new ai is not exactly being welcomed in the european union, a 2023 eu law is blocking three recently announced features from apple, including its apple intelligence ai product. at issue is the digital markets act, which requires services operate across platforms to promote competition. apple has privacy and data concerns about that, and says it will work with the eu to come up with a solution to allow the rollout of new products. but for now, apple intelligence iphone mirroring and enhancements to the screen sharing products shareplay won't be available to eu customers. this story is pretty incredible. a santa cruz man is back home

safe tonight after he was missing for ten days in the mountains. the ordeal started on june 11th. that's when lucas mclish headed out for what he thought would be a three hour hike in the santa cruz mountains. but mclish said he got lost. no food, no water, he says at one point he even had a mountain lion tailing him. but he wasn't afraid, thought it was just watching over him. instead a few days later, his family panicked when he didn't show up for father's day and reported him missing. meanwhile, mclish was in the woods foraging for food, drinking from waterfalls and calling out for help, help, help, i'm over here. or is anybody out there or i want a burrito and a taco bowl? that's what i thought about every day when i, after the first five days when i started to, like, kind of realize that i might be in over my head. oh, he got it by now, i hope so. look at these photos. i mean, they're intense, right? eventually someone heard those cries. firefighters deployed a drone spotted mclish

in a canyon. he was rescued with no significant injuries. absolutely fantastic ending. to what? that could have been a different kind of story. all right. rob mayeda joining us now . and, warm weather, cold weather, hot weather, really, whatever you want is what we had today. just dry today we had hundreds and 50s on the same weather map from pacifica over to livermore. tomorrow we're going to bring those temperatures extremes a little bit closer together. cooling temperatures means we'll still have 90 in the forecast sunday, but not near 100 degrees like we saw today around concord and livermore. look at san jose, still pretty warm outside. it's 70 degrees after a high of 89 degrees. you can see earlier we showed you livermore, tri-valley, many locations. if you head from danville to san ramon down into pleasanton, we're still seeing low to mid 70s outside a high of 101 degrees today in livermore, walnut creek, another location in the 70s at 73 degrees there. you saw the high earlier today at 99 degrees. san francisco 57. that's sea breeze ongoing. it's going to bring in some areas of low clouds. but look what we got

outside mid 70s still inland. for those interior east bay valleys. no heat advisory issued for tomorrow as we do expect those inland temperatures to drop a few degrees. the morning begins with some patchy low clouds. coastal fog once again, 50s and 60s. out on the coast. the bigger change tomorrow will be those inland temperatures as the onshore wind or the sea breeze gets a little bit stronger during the afternoon. quick warm up by noon tomorrow. already seeing some upper 80s inland, but unlike today that heating should be somewhat limited by stronger westerly winds as we head towards the afternoon. so still some 90s inland out towards solano county, livermore, down into morgan hill and especially up towards clear lake in ukiah. still pretty hot up there, but overall a cooling trend as those onshore winds start to pick up. notice the wind speeds during the afternoon. east bay hills will have to watch that. you'll have some gusts about 15 to 25mph. good news, though, for air quality. had some hazy skies to start the weekend. the return of that stronger onshore push should push a little bit more of

the wildfire smoke out, with some improving air quality heading into monday. so the highs we're seeing sunday very similar to the weather monday, tuesday, wednesday not much change there inland. highs still upper 80s to low 90s. one change will be some increasing clouds. there's actually a chance of some scattered thunderstorms down towards southern california. however, for us as we head into tuesday here come the high clouds, which should make for a pretty sunrise and sunset on tuesday. so technically, tropical moisture will start to move up into the bay area, but for now, mainly just some high clouds. shower chances likely staying confined to the sierra and southern california. so 7-day forecast. starting tomorrow, we start to cool things off a little bit. san francisco though, you kind of see the trend as we head towards next weekend, another warm up and that will repeat for inland areas cooling down a little bit towards the middle part of the week. and then it seems like we're just locked in with these 90s on weekends. should see a repeat performance next weekend, just not quite as

hot as the weather. we had today. all right, rob, thanks very much. okay, well, you watch it right here on nbc bay area. she has made a comeback and qualified for her first olympic games. we're talking about this woman right here. sha'carri richardson won the 100 meter sprint at the u.s. olympic track trials in oregon. she sprinted down the track in 10.71 seconds, the fastest time in the 100 meter in the world this year. wow. been quite a ride for richardson. three years ago she won this exact race, but she was suspended for one month from the us olympic team because of a positive marijuana test. but check out who was also cheering on the runners. yes, snoop dogg right there spotted him chilling with noah lyles mom in the stands during the 100 meter race. so much to be said about richardson and snoop dogg. but we'll leave that for another day. anthony flores joining us now with a look at other sports not as exciting as snoop dogg.

including the midwest. today, giants pitcher jordan hicks says his legs were dead after the third inning because of the heat and humidity in saint louis. it was in the mid 90s and very sticky. the giants had a42 lead in the fourth until alex burleson tagged hicks for a deep three. by the way, hicks spent the first five seasons in the majors in saint louis. he only lasted four innings though, and then burleson jacks a two run shot in the sixth different pitcher. the cardinals rally to win it 9 to 4. the giants have lost four in a row. it's two good swings. got beat by the
