4:32 am
today on a monumental case involving donald trump. the former president has asked the court to toss out his federal election interference charge on the grounds of presidential immunity, even if the court does not grant mr. trump full immunity, they could decide to carve out some protections. meanwhile, a former trump aide is expected in prison today, nbc's von hilliard spoke with steve bannon after the supreme court rejected a request to delay his sentence where it clearly at a political war in this country just before he reports to federal prison. one time top strategist for former president donald trump, steve bannon remains defiant. we only get stronger with this. we're not going to get weaker. we're a populist movement. after leaving his position as chief, white house strategist less than seven months into the trump administration, bannon went back to his roots in conservative media. it's saturday, 29th june, the year of our lord 2024. you're in the war room launching an online program he calls war room, which is rocketed in

popularity among the maga faithful. he's went ahead and ignited a bunch of fires under a lot of people, including myself. mr. bannon refused to testify, but his refusal to comply with the congressional investigation of the january 6th capitol attack and alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election led to bannon's conviction by a jury on two counts of contempt of congress. the supreme court, now refusing to delay bannon's four month sentence as he appeals. why refuse to comply with the congressional subpoena? because. because first off, my lawyer told me when i got the letter of exerting executive privilege from the from the president, the j. six committee was not legitimately structured. so therefore their subpoenas don't mean anything. no court has so far agreed with those objections. the january 6th committee's interest in bannon stemming in part from white house records showing he talked to president trump twice on january 6th, as well as the day before. the same day, bannon said this all hell is going to
4:34 am
break loose tomorrow. all i can say is strap in. there were personal and private conversations that he's that he's exerted, he's exerted, he's exerted executive privilege on bannon, who speaks regularly around the country. are you prepared to leave it all on the battlefield? says even in prison , his message won't be silenced. what is your endgame, victory or death of this republic? if we don't win the first, are they shred the constitution? it is the death of the constitutional american republic. we know. and our thanks to vaughn for that report. the justice department is pushing for boeing to accept a plea agreement related to two the 737 max crashes that killed 346 people, two people familiar with the matter tells reuters officials plan to give boeing until the end of the week to respond. the victims families and their attorneys are slamming this as a sweetheart deal. they disagree with several of the terms and say that it does not include any individuals being prosecuted. attorneys say if

4:36 am
analysts believe that he called for snap elections, even if he didn't have to for two reasons one, to outmaneuver the far right by scaring voters away. now that there is a real prospect for the far right to get into government, and secondly, to allow the far right to govern now in the hope that they will disappoint ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. well as we've seen, it did backfire because the national front has done a lot better than expected by winning more than 33% of the vote. but now this is only this was only the first round of votes. and now on sunday, voters will be called to go back to the polls to vote for the second and last round. and president macron has called for all the democratic and republican political forces to come together to at least limit the damage. but there is no doubt that the political gamble of president macron has now thrown france and french politics into turmoil. and as you mentioned, by this time next week, france may get the first
4:37 am
far right government since for the first time since world war two, and also yesterday, after that shock elections, hundreds of people gathered in the streets of in the center of paris to voice their anger against that result. and you know, by this time next week, expect more out west in the streets of france. francis, what a pivot for the country. we'll know soon enough. claudio. thank you. new this morning. north korea fired, test fired two ballistic missiles. this morning. that's according to the south korean military. it came a day after north korea threatened an overwhelming response to recent military drills between the south japan and the u.s. south korean media, citing military sources, say one of the missiles failed and landed inside north korea. the other landed in the sea of japan just five days ago. the north tested a multi-warhead rocket designed to penetrate missile defenses. the utica police department has released body cam video showing the deadly shooting of a 13 year

4:44 am
our culture. mahler built an addition onto his rio rancho home to house the thousands of documents he's collected over the years, everything from declassified project blue book files to newspaper clippings and even air traffic control radio recordings. it's right out of the x-files. i mean, it's a definite ufo or something like that are all packed inside this small room. it is essentially a traditional historical archive, albeit dedicated to a nontraditional subject and his collection, officially known as the national ufo historical records center, is growing. mahler says more and more archivists are sending him their collections, so everything is under one roof. it's bringing these puzzle pieces together to get a better picture of what we're dealing with, with regard to the ufo subject, we visited his archive back in 2022 and saw documents detailing a ufo sighting near socorro in 1964, mahler said there was a similar incident near espanola, but at
4:45 am
the time he didn't have many documents backing it up. now he does, and not only are they photos of the landing site, photos of the landing site and sketches provided by the new mexico state police. contrary to the air force conclusion, they provided no indication that this witness was drunk. they deemed him credible and they provided all of this additional information, which we never had access to until just recently, mahler says. there's countless connections hiding in his archive and he's partnering with rio rancho public schools to let other researchers and everyday people take a look. they have some open space that they would like to allocate for us to house this incredible treasure trove of history, mahler says he will start moving his collection into two portable classrooms in the rio rancho school district later this year, and while it will be open to the public, he says you'll have to make an appointment. who knows what the average person might discover? what discoveries are waiting for
