bring us the latest in a live report in our next half hour. for a look at the conditions that crews are on the scene are facing. let's turn to kari hall. yeah, we have it is a hot day. it is a hot day and we have numerous fires burning across the region. another one is the toll fire that's burning in northern napa county. and we're starting out this morning at 90 degrees. that's not the high temperature. that's the current conditions. they're dealing with. and the gusts at 24mph with extremely low humidity. so we're seeing that as well as that butte county fire that's really putting up a lot of smoke across the region. we are going to see this having a bit of more of a haze to the sky, but much of the smoke is blowing off towards the east and away from the bay area. but there still will be some impacts to our air quality. we are going to continue to monitor for the potential of more fires as we go throughout today. our relative humidity drops to about 5. that's almost no moisture in the
5:03 am
air as we go into the afternoon, and there's not much recovery where we see those numbers coming up to 80 to 90. we don't really see that in the next couple of days as our temperatures head back to the triple digits in some spots, it will be slightly hotter than it was yesterday afternoon, making it that much more dangerous. so we'll continue to monitor this with more updates throughout the morning. that temperature and humidity stuff is unbelievable, and we also know that hundreds of people are also waking up in the dark this morning because of power outages caused by this heat wave. today in the bay's bob redell is live in san ramon in a neighborhood that's still in the dark and people could lose power for longer than just today, right, bob? that's the thought. good morning to you, chris. i don't know if you can see, but the lights are out at this traffic intersection here, bollinger canyon road and talavera drive as is the power for a number of homes nearby. this is just one pocket of an outage here in the east bay.
5:04 am
there are several throughout the bay area. here's a live look at the pg&e power outage page. still hundreds without power in the region. the green circles represent up to 50 customers without electricity. yellow diamonds up to 500. these outages don't just drive the residents nuts, they hurt small businesses. yesterday, the danville brewing company and the peasant and pear restaurant, both in danville, closed earlier than usual because they had no way to turn on the lights or run their ac or the appliances in their kitchen. the owner of the peasant and the pear says just last year, his business experienced 22 power outages, and in the one last night, add in the one last night, he ends up subtracting from his bottom line. you lose several thousands of dollars of sales. but on a night like this, now you don't get any of that sales money and you're paying for labor. obviously, it's very frustrating for us, for the customers. you know, is we want to be a place
5:05 am
people can escape the heat, you know, have a nice cold beer, you know, some great food. pg&e says it's probable this week's heat wave will knock out power again for other customers. they're urging customers to conserve and put off those chores that use a lot of electricity until later in the day, or earlier in the morning, before the demand for air conditioning really kicks in. reporting live here in san ramon, bob redell. today in the bay, there was so little relief overnight too. thank you bob. and we do have a great way for you to stay prepared by getting up to date, up to the minute updates sent straight to your phone for any breaking news or weather alerts. just download the nbc bay area news app for all devices. 505 turning to decision 2024. governor gavin newsom heads to washington to meet with president biden tonight. he won't be alone. he's set to join other democratic governors at the white house. video of the two coming face to face at sfo in november. all

this comes as a growing number of democrats calling on biden to reconsider his election bid following his performance in the first presidential debates. biden's campaign has just two months until the democratic national convention in chicago. today in the bay's brie jackson joins us live from washington. bree, the president's team got to be working overtime trying to ease concerns. yeah that's right. good morning scott. so the white house says it wants the president to get out there. president biden and house democratic leader hakeem jeffries, they spoke by phone on tuesday. and tonight, president biden is scheduled to speak with democratic governors to try to shore up their support. growing calls for president biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. i wanted to speak directly to the president about the need for him to step aside. congressman lloyd doggett is the first sitting democrat in congress to publicly raise concerns, citing president

supplies are said to be running very low. beryl is now a category four strength hurrican. at least six deaths on the other islands are being blamed on the storm. i know kari hall has been watching this carefully. what's the latest? yeah, so this storm is looking like it's going to make a very close hit or maybe a direct hit to jamaica over the next few days. it is out over the caribbean where the water is extremely warm for this time of year. and that's what's giving us a lot of that energy to continue to remain as a major hurricane over the next several days, as it right now moves just to the south of the dominican republic, it is giving it some of the outer rain bands, and we're not once again seeing the direct hit. there but here's jamaica right here as this category four storm is expected to make landfall there later on this afternoon into the evening, either passing directly over jamaica or just to the south, which still puts it on the bad side of that storm as it

hey there, neighbor. oh, my goodness. so it's just no relief on this. no unfortunately not. it's going to be a while, but take a look at this sunrise that we have behind us. i mean that is just gorgeous. it is a microclimate weather alert day. so we are seeing all of these beautiful hues in the sky as we are dealing with some wildfire smoke coming in, and also high levels of ozone. so we do need to limit time outside. it is a spare the air alert day and the high fire danger continues with more hot days and warm nights. and those warm nights is really what makes it so bad, because it makes it hard to sleep and there's not much recovery. so we have these dry northeasterly winds and low relative humidity as this heat continues here is a live look outside in san francisco as we're getting started this morning. our air quality continues to be unhealthy due to once again wildfire smoke and ozone. it's unhealthy for anyone with breathing problems or heart conditions, but we're seeing the

worst of that air quality in parts of the east bay, where it tends to settle in the valleys, and it's kind of trapped between some of the hills where it doesn't really have a chance to mix out. here's where we're starting this morning. it is anywhere from 54 and half moon bay. that's the cool spot to starting out at 78 degrees in martinez. so it's not really all that cool. and we're looking at some near record highs for today in santa rosa. it could tie the record of 103 degrees that was set in 2001. i don't think we'll be close in san francisco, but oakland may tie the record will be very close in livermore and just a few degrees shy of a record, and hopefully it stays that way in san jose. we're looking at temperatures up to 105 in dublin, 110 in concord, fairfield and vacaville, and a lot of highs over 100 degrees for much of the north bay, san francisco. it's going to be in the mid 80s, but could still reach into the 90s in parts of the city. the same thing tomorrow and still pretty hot as

this heat wave continues into our 4th of july holiday. as well as friday into the weekend and we're only breaking it into the upper 90s in the beginning of next week. so that's really not much of a break from this heat. and looking at san francisco, where it does tend to ease up a little bit more quickly here, going from 88 degrees today to some low 80s on sunday and then back to the mid 70s for the beginning of next week. so we'll be watching all of this for you in the impacts. mike. it looks like a very nice scene at the bay bridge toll plaza. yeah. you know it's a beautiful sunrise. look at that in the background there. and i'm looking at the traffic flow i guess that's what i'm supposed to do. and it's been light all week. and we expect similar today. later on in the day, expect more folks to be hitting the roads as has been this week. it's been the late morning early afternoon when things start to ramp up, so we're looking at no major problems. a little blip here for highway 37 just starting with the drive out of vallejo. no delays through highway four after they cleared the earlier

meteorologist kari hall about all this heat. yeah, it's not only the heat, but it's all of the fires that we have burning across the area. and it's not just the one fire that we've been watching here and there. we also have the butte county fire happening. the toll fire, the denverton fire. and then there's other ones that are smaller that are happening across the region. but all of this putting smoke into the atmosphere and giving us a hazy sky that we'll see throughout the morning, but we can see the bulk of the smoke going from that fire up around butte county will be blowing off towards the east and away from the bay area as well as the other fires that are continuing today. but still, it does have an impact to our air quality as we're dealing with this extreme heat and not much wind. and these are the conditions that firefighters are facing. this morning, even around the toll fire, the red flag warning continues. the current temperature is 90 degrees this morning and the winds are still gusting at 27mph. and usually
