"early today" starts right now. good morning. thanks for being up early with me. i'm frances rivera. we begin in washington, d.c., where a crucial week continues for the biden campaign. the president is working to show strength on the world stage and here at home. he'll be meeting with nato leaders again today, as his campaign works to convince democrats he is the right candidate for their party. gabe gutierrez kicks off ki coverage. >> reporter: president biden on the world stage with 38 world leaders here in washington. >> it's good that we're stronger than ever. because this moment in history calls for our collective strength. >> reporter: president biden and european allies announcing new air defense systems for ukraine. >> putin wants nothing less, nothing less than ukraine's total subjugation, to end ukraine's democracy, but make no mistake. ukraine can and will stop putin.

year. on friday he travels to battleground michigan. back to you. >> gabe, thank you. the u.s. navy says one of its sailors has been disciplined for trying to access president biden's medical records three times. the unnamed junior sailor searched joe biden's name in the navy health record database back in february. a navy commander in a statement said the sailor did it, quote, out of curiosity. only the health records of a different person why eree acces and president biden's information was not compromised. senator marco rubio joined the former president for a campaign rally in florida. he spoke about rubio being a top contender for vice president. >> if he's not chosen, will he play a role in your administration? >> well, he certainly will. he's a fantastic guy, a friend of mine. and he's one of the top people. and let's see how we do over the

next week. but probably over the next week or so. maybe even at the convention. >> there had been speculation that mr. trump would make his announcement during this rally. but, instead, he only teased the possibility of choosing rubio. oklahoma's remembering its longest-serving senator this morning. jim inhofe has died. the former senator's family says he suffered a stroke over the holiday weekend. inhofe was known as a staunch denier of climate change caused by humans. he was 89 years old. jury selection has wrapped up in the alec baldwin "rust" trial. he could face up to 18 months in prison if he is convicted of involuntary man slaughter for shooting and killing the film's cinematographer while rehearsing a scene. here's chloe melas. >> reporter: alec baldwin stoic as he entered this santa fe, new

mexico courthouse. he entered with his wife. he faces one count of count of m involuntary man slaughter. 12 jurors were selected who will decide his fate in what's expected to be an eight-day trial. did he pull the trigger? or did the gun misfire. baldwin has long maintained his innocence. for this, prosecutors will rely on two key witnesses. a crew memex pektedber expected testify he saw baldwin pull the trigger. in a pretrial win for the defense, the judge ruled that baldwin's role as producer of the movie could not be presented to the jury. the defense will make the case that it's not the job of an actor to ensure a prop gun doesn't contain live rounds. >> a lot of families are hunting

shipping are numbered. starting august 19th, sam's club plus membership, a subscription that runs over $100 a year will only qualify for free shipping on orders of $50 or more. the wholesaler facing backlash from customers online. one user writing, these changes will make it harder for me to justify keeping my membership, while others say they may take their business to a competitor. sam's club tells nbc news these recent changes are designed to simp simplify the experience and provide better access to the items our members buy the most. >> a customer having to reach that threshold now really changes the game in a consumer's mind in whether they're going to continue with sam's club or not. would not surprise me if they lost some members over this. >> reporter: sam's club is the latest retailer to increase free shipping minimums in recent years as companies are squeezed by high operating costs. in 2023, amazon increased their free shipping threshold by $10
