memorial is not too far from us in our location here in martinez. we did speak with richard sublett, whose father, maurice, was one of the black sailors who survived the explosion of munitions that were being unloaded or loaded onto a ship. here he says this announcement is long overdue. following the explosion, white supervising officers were given hardship leave while black sailors like his dad were told to return to work. hundreds of black sailors refused to go back, saying they never received proper training to handle these very dangerous ammunitions. a majority of them, including richard's dad, did return after threats of disciplinary action, but they were still court martialed and there were a group of 50 other black sailors known as the port chicago 50, who refused to return and were charged with mutiny. it's high time that these 256 sailors got exonerated. they finally did. now we can celebrate their lives and we can celebrate that without this cloud of, you know, adjudication hanging over their heads. in a statement, president

5:38 am
let's take a look at that map there. it's going to show you exactly where we are seeing elevated levels across the bay area. according to the california department of public health dashboard. now, all of the wastewater monitoring sites across the bay seem to be at elevated levels. over the last week or so. now, part of this is because people are out and about on some of travel. but also there's another reason it is a master masquerader. i mean, it just continues to find new ways to develop, you know, ways to evade the immune system. and so as these new variants come out and they are just a little bit different than previous strains, it's harder for our body to fight them. okay, so with that, you might be wondering, well, do i need to get a vaccine booster? are my vaccines protecting me? the doctor says yes, vaccination is still your best course of action to avoid a prolonged illness and a serious illness. we are also seeing a slight

uptick in hospitalizations. so people are still getting very, very sick. people are still getting long covid now, still with this new variant, the flirt, the doctor says that most people who feel sick and go on to test have cough, nasal congestion, sore throat, very similar symptoms to the ones that we've seen throughout the history of covid. we'll call it over the last four years. so the vaccine booster for the fall is in the works. it's going to be tailored the way that the flu vaccine is to whatever is trending at that time. so that should protect us better for the fall. but in the meantime, best practices are if you're an enclosed space, if you don't know what people's vaccine status is, if you see somebody who maybe appears to be sick, you can mask up. make sure you wash your hands, you use hand sanitizer and remind the kids to because they are certainly enjoying their summer and getting out about as well. in san jose, kris sanchez today in

you the full microclimate forecast coming up. and i think i have a fuller story now. south 101 i do believe all lanes are clear right here. south 101 passing by marsh. but at the split between the offramp and the freeway, there's still activity. cars are there in the median or in the gore point. and so you will be distracted. also, the major injuries may actually just be an injured wrist. that's much better update, but we'll watch what's going on for san jose. there's now slowing on 87 coming up. well chp sending out a warning after making more than a dozen arrests over the weekend, the agency conducted a so-called surge operation on saturday targeting sideshows with the video you see right here released from the chp after it deployed its airplane and helicopter to help in seven high speed chases. 13 people were arrested and eight stolen vehicles were recovered. this is all part of governor gavin newsom's effort to crack down on east bay crime now. last week, newsom announced that he's deploying even more chp officers to oakland. a former santa clara

county sheriff's captain is convicted of bribery and conspiracy charges back in 2020. captain james jensen was indicted on claims that he and other department employees withheld gun permits in exchange for campaign funds. a jury found him guilty yesterday, and in a statement, the sheriff's department says it supports the decision and the current sheriff has completely overhauled the concealed carry permit process. a sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. a south bay man talking about his scary encounter with an armed car thief. this is who fired at him outside his home. this happened about 24 hours ago on san pablo avenue in sunnyvale. kurt smiley says that he woke up to a sound of his car alarm blaring from his dodge challenger, and when he went outside, he actually saw a man with a black mask leaning over the car. he said, go back in. that's what he said. and all of a sudden shots were just

oncoming age related conditions. interestingly enough, we get a lot of referrals from financial advisors. you know who are the first line of defense against somebody, seeing cognitive decline by changes in spending patterns, changes in investment patterns. you know, we think the financial scores and credit scores, should be part of a multimodal, ai detection to help people with, screening and kind of predicting cognitive decline. and then taking actions accordingly so they don't make mistakes that are disastrous for their financial future. but the other part of neel's kari hall is that matchmaking service or alluding to it's sort of a matchmaking service where they pair those in need of elder care with those who would benefit from performing the care. so in the bay area through korea, you can go to a site book online, in less than two minutes and you will get a wonderful pre-health careers college student from berkeley, stanford, san francisco state, san jose state. you know, depending on where you are, one of these wonderful universities, to come and help

you for 20 bucks an hour. so half the cost of traditional care, way more convenient and faster to book. and in my opinion, way higher quality of care. you know, these students aren't just doing it for the money, but they really want the experience towards future clinical careers. so this really hooked me. i asked more questions. korea boasts a network of over 18,000 such students in this area or across the nation, looking to match with those who are in need. the students, in turn, get a paying job and a real life patient experience as they move toward their goal of a job in the health care field. so this area of health care, elder care, as we talk about it's got, well, it's related to the conditions and changes so they can observe that this is huge because what i think from what neel told me, we're looking at 29 million of us in the sandwich generation, where we have those who are younger than us, who are caring for as well as those who are older than us, who are caring for. so we're sandwiched in between. and so this could be a potentially huge, boon to us where we're stretching our time. i say us because my family, my wife's family, we're all this,

we're in many situations, the same around the bay area. and so we could really use perhaps a little bit better pricing and then helping the medical students get real life bedside patient experience. i mean, this could be a great, teamwork. and then on top of that, they have the whole research aspect of this as well. so they're using this to develop new technologies to help diagnose and detect. so this is a potentially huge area of interest for me. so i'll be following this. it's a huge win all around i think. so it seems like this. and he's around the country but loves the bay area because of the opportunities we have with research and technology. i know we've talked about that, that is definitely a much needed win across all boards, right? that it is all right weather wise. pretty much a win for us for the most part i think. so, yeah. if you love the warmer weather it's a win for you. it's summertime. why not. and tomorrow why not? fog blanketing san francisco right there towards sausalito. we are seeing more clearing skies through the rest of the bay area. 50s and 60s to start our day. we are under a heat advisory starting at ten this
