of the south bay, the peninsula, san francisco excluded from this dangerous heat. but we are going to have a few days of temperatures in some spots, reaching dangerous levels. so we'll talk more about that coming up in just a few minutes. laura marcus. sounds good. we'll check back with you. kari. well, the decision 2024 and the historic shakeup in the race for president. here is a live look for you. this morning at the white house. and leading democrats already falling in line behind president biden and their support for vice president kamala harris receiving the democratic party nomination. the president's decision yesterday to bow out and endorse harris means his nearly 50 year career in politics will soon come to an end. today in the bay's brie jackson live in washington, this morning and brie the vice president already in overdrive trying to win full party suppor. that's right. good morning, laura marcus. so on sunday, vice president harris had multiple phone calls with president biden before he announced he would not

seek reelection and would endorse her. instead. we're told that harris spent more than ten hours placing calls to more than 100 party leaders, members of congress, civil rights organizations and more, making it clear that she plans to work hard to earn the democratic nomination. in an historic move, president biden, dropping out of the 2024 presidential race, writing, i believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down the news sending shockwaves through the nation. it was a shock, but at the same time, they must feel it's best for the election. i think he made a choice for the country and i'm in favor of it. the president's decision follows weeks of calls for him to step aside, citing concerns about his poor debate, performance, age and ability to lead for four more years. if reelected. the 81 year old says he's now offering his full support for his vice president,

kamala harris, to be this year's democratic nominee. in a statement, she says i will do everything in my power to unite the democratic party and unite our nation to defeat donald trump. some lawmakers are also throwing their support behind the 59 year old. there's no time for bitterness, man. we have got to unite behind this ticket. with kamala harris at the helm and move forward. she carries into this campaign the biden record, and it is a good record. former president trump's team has been preparing to run against harris for weeks. he's criticized her even before president biden ended his campaign. she's not a competent person. she shouldn't be president. i mean, she's being laughed at all over the world. the world is now watching and waiting to see what the democratic party ticket will be. and president biden will stay on for the remainder of his term. he said he will address the nation about his decision later this week. marcus. laura, a big

week ahead. brie thanks for the latest. well, one of california's leading democrats is already applauding this weekend's shakeup. house lawmaker adam schiff is among the first lawmakers calling for president biden to end his reelection bid. he tells today this morning that he was really about his party winning this november. i have every confidence in his abilities as president and his ability to continue doing the remarkable job that he's doing, but i am very excited to throw my full support behind the vice president. i've seen her work as a prosecutor, as an attorney general, as a senator, as vice president. i'm very excited to work with her as president. i haven't seen this kind of excitement in the democratic party in quite a long time. now, some republican lawmakers, meanwhile, arguing biden should step down now rather than finish his term. you can watch congressman schiff's full interview on today. that's at 7:00 this morning right here

after today in the bay. well, the biden announcement reverberates around the nation here in the bay area. his endorsement triggering a new wave of pride. that's because the woman now in line for that nomination began her political career here today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco this morning. and ginger, local leaders are wasting no time throwing their support behind kamala harris. that is correct. good morning laura. now we've seen the support for vice president harris pretty much as soon as the announcement first came out. that first endorsement coming from president biden himself. and since then, we're seeing leaders on the national front as well as the local front throw their support behind her bid for the presidency. later this morning here in san francisco, there will be a rally in support of the vice president at city hall, and that will be led by mayor london breed. we have an opportunity to ensure that we rally around someone who

has been working hard. standing by. president biden is someone from san francisco, has a track record of being a fierce prosecutor and of leading the district attorney's office, leading the attorney general's office of the state of california and all the jobs she's had, whether it was the district attorney, whether it was the attorney general or whether she was a person in the category of cross examining supreme court nominees. she's always been outstanding, and no question in my mind that she will continue to be equally as outstanding. now, vice president harris is seen as the front runner at this point, with the vice president herself vowing to earn and win the democratic nomination, which would make her the first black and asian american to lead a major party ticket. harris was born in oakland and raised in berkeley, the daughter of immigrants from

india and jamaica. governor gavin newsom is also endorsing the vice president, describing her as tough, fearless and tenacious. he posted on x quote with our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against donald trump's dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than america's vice president, kamala harris. representative barbara lee also sharing the same sentiments. come on, she's a prosecutor and the republican nominee is a convicted felon. we still have a lot of work to do, and she's prepared to just carry that baton forward. so there's no one as prepared as she is. no one is experienced and no one who can step up on day one, and hit the ground running. now, analysts are saying republicans are now looking at new strategies given this game changer of an announcement that was made over the weekend. now, vice president harris saw a bump in financial support very quickly after after the

and we could pretend that we're in paris as we take a live look. we, we and we'll look great. all right. a nice start to our monday morning. but that hot summer weather is making a return. yes, we're going to see the temperatures ramping up quickly today. so we're starting out 50s and low 60s. we're at 61 right now in palo alto and in san jose. walnut creek is clear and that 60 degrees and some mid 50s for san francisco, where we can see that fog over the city. to start out, this morning. so we are going to have a wide range in temperatures today. nice and cool for the coastline. while the valleys and spots like san jose will be heating up pretty fast throughout the morning, going from low 60s now to mid 70s at 10:00, 81 degrees at noon, and we're headed for 89 degrees for an afternoon high will be in the mid 90s for the south county. a few spots reaching the triple digits, and it gets even hotter for tomorrow. so we'll talk more about that. vianey you've been tracking the roads and we were

580 from grant line road. there was an earlier incident there that could be causing some slight delays. you're looking at about 24 minutes southbound, 680 from 580 to vargas road, about 11 minutes and 84 from vallecitos road to 680. only 11 minutes. we'll have a closer look at the rest of your drive times coming up. well good morning. very happy monday to you. futures are steady as wall street seems to be perfectly fine with all that political news over the weekend. delta airlines still struggling with that global computer outage on friday. we'll talk more about that in a minute. tesla sank about 4% on friday. this is the weakest of the so-called magnificent seven that have been boosting the markets lately. in fact, we're seeing new investor behavior as lower interest rates may be getting closer. what they're calling rotation, that is money coming out of the magnificent seven. which of course includes nvidia and into small cap companies up and comers. the problem with small cap companies is they don't have

a lot of money on hand. so they're at greater risk during times of higher interest rates. the bet on wall street is those rates are coming down. there's also the trump trade investors putting their money into things they think will benefit if trump wins the presidency. again, interesting to see if the trump trade fades now that he has a new opponent and you have all those silicon valley bigwigs talking about trump, mark zuckerberg on bloomberg friday, praising trump even though trump has threatened to jail him. though zuckerberg did not specifically endorse trump. some big names in venture, like marc andreessen, have endorsed the former president as well. delta airlines says it's still having problems with its computers after that friday meltdown. we still have hiccups here ourselves. not all of our video walls work properly. this one's fine. secretary of transportation not happy about it. the delta part pete buttigieg calls the cancellations unacceptable. says i have made clear to delta that we will hold them all to

applicable passenger protections. delta canceled 1 in 4 flights sunday and is so full with summer travel, it's having trouble finding seats for all those people who need to be rebooked. and this is interesting, travel blogger gary leff says alaska wants to put more comfort class rows into its planes, but extra space is going to have to come from somewhere. and on the larger seven, three, seven, the 800 series that may come from first class no comment from alaska. now i do not fly first class because i don't make kari hall money, right, but when i and i do fly comfort class, when i pass first class these days, i'm not that impressed. yeah, yeah. you don't have a middle row, a middle seat, but but other than that, you like the champagne? yeah. in the plastic. and it's not the first class of old. yes. well, speaking of those flight delays, did you see the response from southwest? i did not check it out. i will. it's funny. they didn't have any issues, by the way. no, they didn't. all right.

thanks, guys. you bet. all right, let's take a live look outside for you at san jose skyline. beautiful shot there from downtown to the day. it really is. and it's a monday too. so it's just like i mean, it's just great. but better. i don't know if i was like better about this, but there is going to be hot weather today. look coming off of a weekend, kari, that was really nice. it was nice over the weekend and we are talking about some heat, but i think our standards are, you know, a little bit better now because it's shifted because we were dealing with 110, 111, a few couple a couple of weeks ago. so today when we say high heat, it's going to be hot but not like that. so you know, we're doing a little bit better. take a look at one of the more comfortable spots. berkeley. we're going from 60 degrees this morning to a noon time temperature of 71, only making it into the mid to upper 70s there today. but look at the range and temperatures. we'll see upper 60s for half moon bay,

but 100 in concord and 101 in vacaville. the hottest temperature will be clear lake at 105 degrees today. so it really depends on your location. and there will be a more widespread major heat risk in the in the forecast for tomorrow as you make your way to the south bay. livermore 102, fairfield 101 degrees and in santa rosa, it's going to be 93 for tomorrow afternoon. and even on wednesday it's still pretty hot, but at least the heat is easing up a little bit. we're still going to see some 90s and close to 100 degrees in a lot of spots, but the farther you are away from the coastline, the more hot it's going to be as we go throughout the week. the good thing is that the high pressure is moving on. this will not be a prolonged heat wave and it will be cooler late week into the weekend, just in time for us to make plans to get outside. it's going to start to feel much better, but when you take a look

at one of our hotter inland spots like brentwood, we're going from triple digits for the middle of the week to mid 80s by friday. look at the weekend. it's going to be so nice with some mid to upper 80s and then much cooler temperatures as you make your way toward the bay and the coastline. so our high heat will be hitting us over the next few days. once we get past that, we're going to have some more seasonable summer weather and more fog in san francisco. vianey you've been tracking the roads, it seems like it's been pretty quiet. it has, considering it's a monday early morning commute, smooth through the south bay. look at san jose there and a look at our maps right now. speed sensors are green, which means we're having no major slowdowns, whether that's in the south bay or the east bay. so a quick check of your south bay drive times right now. northbound 101 from highway 85, you're looking at 19 minutes and northbound 280 from highway 101 to highway 85, about seven minutes. no major delays to tell you about at this hour. i'll send it back to you. all right. let's hope it continues. thanks renee. coming up next on today

included in that excessive heat warning from today through wednesday, the areas in orange are basically a step below in a heat advisory where our temperatures will be dangerous for prolonged exposure, but it won't be as excessive as what we'll see in parts of the east bay. here's a look at concord, where our temperatures go from a nice, comfortable, cool 65 at 8:00 to it's starting to get warm at noon, 84 degrees, but then we'll be in the upper 90s for today, around 4:00. this afternoon, and a few spots reaching 100 degrees for today. even more areas reaching the triple digits tomorrow. we reached the peak of the heat tomorrow. then it cools down. we'll talk about all of that coming up. vianey looking at the roads this morning. wow, that's pretty light at the bay bridge. it is typically the metering lights. turn on right around 526. and right now this is what it looks like. so it looks like monday is off to a fantastic start across all the bridges. i haven't seen any major delays on

the roads either. taking a closer look at mountain view, san jose, cupertino and all through the south bay, we've got green on the map, which for traffic means everything is moving along. now i do want to show you your bridge drive times westbound 580 towards richmond bridge. you're looking at about eight minutes as i mentioned. still no metering lights on at the bay bridge. so we've got a smooth commute through there. you're looking at about eight minutes westbound 82 towards the san mateo bridge. 12 minutes. and no delays in the south bay either. northbound 101 from highway 85 about 20 minutes. and northbound 280 from highway 101 to highway 85, about eight minutes. smooth commute through northbound 85. tri-valley looks a little bit slow. the typical slowdowns westbound 580 from grant line road to 680. there was an earlier crash that is now being cleared out, and you're looking at about 24 minutes. a closer look at how the rest of the bay area is doing coming up sounds good. it is. 532 right now. turning to the presidential race and this historic decision, president biden ending his reelection campaign. and now

everyone is asking, can vice president harris snag that democratic nomination without a struggle? and of course, the bigger question here, scott mcgrew, is can kamala harris beat donald trump in november? well, all the polling, marcus, we have from the past weeks where there was a harris trump matchup was, of course, theoretical and to be fair, it's still theoretical. the vice president has not been nominated yet. so an nbc poll conducted way back in early july showed trump ahead of harris by two points or so. but that's well within the margin of error. so we can call that inconclusive. and this is a national poll. as we have said so many times, we do not elect presidents with a nationwide vote. we elect state by state. and harris would likely struggle in some of the battleground states like pennsylvania or arizona, the same way any democrat does, which may influence her choice for vice president should she win the nomination. among the names being batted about mark kelly, the former astronaut now

senator from arizona, josh shapiro, is the governor of pennsylvania. gavin newsom, less useful? she's already likely to take california. ginger will talk more about the governor in a moment. there's adam schiff, also from california, popular for taking on trump and two impeachments and the january 6th hearings. he'll be on the today show coming up at seven. this is a incredible matchup. we've got a former prosecutor running against a convicted felon. we've got someone in vice president harris with a record of integrity, with a record of success legislatively and as vice president, running against someone who ran our country into the ground. okay. watch for that. coming up at seven. so we entered this strange state of uncertainty in the next few weeks. seems clear harris will be the candidate, but we can't say that for sure until democrats make it official. in the meantime, the american government continues to function. president biden, scheduled to speak with israeli

prime minister benjamin netanyahu tomorrow. the white house says vice president harris will sit in on a meeting. president biden used social media to make sunday's announcement. he's out sick, of course. so a nationwide address? probably not in the cards that will come later this week. still made history, though, with simultaneous postings on instagram and the former twitte. obviously, you know the word has spread tremendously. since then. but really within minutes it was probably the tweet heard around the world, so it is completely upended. the 2024 presidential race. we haven't seen anything like this since 1968. so it's a very momentous occasion now when he says 68, he's referring to president lyndon johnson, who also decided not to run for a second election. johnson didn't have twitter, so he used television. i shall not seek and i will not accept the nomination

of my party for another term as your president. vice president harris has a previously scheduled speech today about college athletics with the ncaa. we understand she's going to keep that appointment that starts at 8 a.m. our time. so we'll be hearing from the person who will likely be the democratic candidate for president marcos, later this morning. all right, scott, thank you. and speaking of vp kamala harris, well, bay area roots extend from oakland to berkeley today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us from her elementary school, which i see behind you, kris, there is a mural in her honor. there is a mural and she's in the company of dolores huerta and anne frank and, venus williams. so it's a testament to her roots here in oakland and her roots in you know, civil movement, a lot of people, though, might be less persuaded about where she's from. and more

persuaded about what she does. we've been talking to people since yesterday. harris grew up in oakland in a home that is now montessori school. her mother, who was from india, was very involved in the civil rights fight, and harris and her sister bore witness to that when her mother was going, they were picketing and advocating for civil rights. and at a very, very young age, al harris left the bay area to attend howard university, a historically black university, but returned to work in the san francisco district attorney's office. some voters, though, are focused on policy, whether than those roots. there's still a lot of questions on kamala and what her policy is going to be, but i think for a lot of voters, you know, a lot of people in my community, i'm muslim and pakistani, you know, this has been like the biggest issue, the singular issue that we've been paying attention to, you know, the day to day realities, of you know, being in

oakland are affected by, like, who? maya, oakland or like county supervisors are, not so much the president. the fact that biden is supporting her. i think if obama came out and said, yeah, stick with kamala. i think it depends how the other major players, what they do. all right. and those other major players, many of them are getting behind kamala harris as the potential democratic candidate for president. ginger conejero saab is talking about that, and she's going to bring that to us in the next half hour in berkeley. kris sanchez, today in the bay. all right. kris sanchez, thanks so much for that. kamala harris sat down with our raj mathai for an exclusive interview during a visit to the bay area back in 2021. after a few months after just becoming the vice president, they spoke about her bay area roots and if she was thinking about running in 2024. when i went out to east bay.

sunny and temperatures warming up and headed for the mid 80s at noon, eventually reaching into the seconds for later today. san jose will reach a high of 89 degrees 86 in mountain view, while san francisco will be in the low 70s. we'll see a lot of seconds for much of the north bay. we'll get a look at hotter temperatures ahead in our valleys coming up. vianey has been tracking the roads. anything popping up out there aside from the usual commute starting to build on the san mateo bridge, this is a live look right now in both directions. we're doing okay as far as any sig alerts. none right now. and the cat reports, the chp reports, if you notice down through the south, we've got mountain view, san jose and fremont looking good there. we've got clear conditions for the most part on the roads. and i have been of course, keeping a close eye in through the peninsula, the east bay as well. this one did just pop up along 880, so i will take a closer look at where that one is impacting the roads. but the dumbarton bridge, the san mateo bridge and the bay bridge are all looking great. so let's take

we'll see returning today in union city. it's in the mid 50s as you step out the door. all clear with a calm wind. and we are going to see the temperatures in the mid 60s at 9:00, upper 70s at noon, and overall a warm day but not extreme. but there will be a wide range across our microclimates. we'll take a look at what to expect as we go throughout the week. coming up in a few minutes. and if the east bay is a part of your commute, i did look into that crash that came up earlier. it appears northbound 880 near a street. the off ramp. the right hand shoulder is blocked due to

a crash involving a big rig. we are seeing all lanes are open, but we'll have an update on some slowing that's already starting to show up. coming up in just a few minutes. well, the man accused of shooting and killing his family members in their alameda home is due in court today for his arraignment. police say 54 year-old shane parrish colleen, shot his wife, two young children and his wife's parents on july 10th. none of them survived. officers arrested him shortly after the killings. investigators have not laid out the factors leading up to that shooting. oakland's newest baseball team suddenly shifting after an unexpected move. still, early in its first season, the ballers now looking for a new manager. they fired manager mickey franklin over the weekend. just 54 games into the inaugural season and still four games above 500 in the pioneer league, team executives are looking for a different approach. third base base coach

like this. i'll put something like this on, but if i'm battling or going to a hip hop event, i'll be completely different than something baggy, still stylish. because in hip hop you want to have your own style. you want to be. you want to set yourself apart from other breakers or even other artists, so you have to find your own style. what makes you feel better? what makes you feel good to perform or compete in? skateboarding is a very fashion driven sport, so i am always manicuring my outfits or wearing something that i feel like i'm, you know, feel good in. and a lot of those items are always polo, a lot of double rl stuff as well. i think they both could stand out in custom ralph lauren. right. all right. so let's just say representation does not come without a cost. the price of those outfits for this year's opening ceremony, just more than $2,500 each. yes. yeah what? yeah. it's ralph lauren custom. i mean, it's a lot of clothes. yeah, it's. yeah, yeah, but i don't think they have to pay for them. all right. yeah, yeah. all right. so make sure you tune in right here

on nbc bay area for the today show. all this week they're going to have the latest developments from paris. as we look ahead of the opening ceremony on friday. exciting. it is exciting. well, you know what happening tonight the next generation of rock superstars are set to take the stage in san francisco school of rock hosting its all stars music tour. tonight's stop features 160 elite musicians from around the world and the bay area. as part of its more than 335 schools, less than 1% of school of rock students are selected to participate. we spoke with owner of the company, san rafael location, heather riley, and her student charlie, who will play as part of the show tonight. she says those in attendance can expect a diverse performance set through the whole night. will be really, really diverse between all the schools and that's one of the things that that school of rock is so amazing at is they'll they will touch on all the genres, all the different types. and then the wonderful

thing about the local school of rock's going out and seeing all stars and playing with them is that everybody instantly picks up on the energy of that. and the show is really dynamic. when i'm with my band, it really encourages me to learn because i don't want to let down my bandmates by not learning a song or anything. so it really helps practicing at home and like making playing an instrument fun. the show is tonight at the bottom of the hill on 17th street. tickets are $15 online, 18 at the door. for more information, visit school of rock's website. that's got to be a great experience for those kids. oh no kidding. and you get to see them before they become famous. i know right? i saw them for $15 when they were 15. yeah that's cool. all right. so you can tell it's going to be a warm week. yes. we've been talking a lot about that. and the good thing is that this heat wave won't last as long. and won't be as intense as what we've seen in the past. it will be hot today through wednesday as the heat

advisory will be in effect for much of the bay area excessive heat warnings for the inland east bay. by the end of the week, it's starting to cool down and just in time for the weekend, it's going to be comfortable with a breezy wind, that ocean breeze helping to cool us all off as we take a live look outside in walnut creek. it's 66 at 8:00, 74 at 10:00, and we can see the trend there with our temperatures making it into the mid to upper seconds for today and briefly touching 100 degrees in concord in livermore it will be 99 moraga 93 today, and in napa 94 degrees about the same in santa rosa. the color contours on here show you the areas in orange and red, a moderate to major heat risk. and that's how this kind of heat impacts your health, especially being outside for several hours. and that prolonged exposure. looking at tomorrow, it's even hotter. morgan hill, 99 degrees 93, in san jose and mountain view in the upper 80s. you can see that

it won't be as hot for parts of the peninsula and the coastline. but then as you make it into the north bay, it will be 97 in napa and up to 106 degrees in ukiah on wednesday. we're seeing a lot more of the 90s and not as many of the triple digits, but still pretty hot as a high pressure that's causing that heat starts to slowly ease up and push off towards the east, away from the bay area, and then we'll eventually see the return of the jet stream, which will bring in some cooler temperatures and bring in some storm systems to the pacific northwest. for us, we'll have the return of our ocean breeze and look at how that affects our temperatures. and santa rosa going from 90 to start out our week to mid 80s by thursday and the weekend, i don't know if you can beat that. it will be in the mid 70s for a high temperature and that will continue at least into the start of next week with some milder temperatures. but once again, once we make it through these next few days and the hot valley

temperatures, it's going to be better for friday into the weekend with some of our warmer spots only in the low 80s on saturday, and we will see much more fog and also the mist and drizzle in san francisco this weekend, but it will be heating up with more sunshine throughout much of the week. at vianey, you've been tracking the roads. are there any spots slowing down yet? we're starting to see some issues out on the roads, but it looks like the bay bridge toll plaza is not one of them. we do still have the metering lights off and you can see there we've got smooth. it looks like the cars are starting to slow down. so there could start to be some add ons to that traffic. now we do see this issue that i was mentioning earlier along 880 in the east bay northbound near a street offramp. we're going to see some issues because of an earlier crash. what appears to be involving a big rig. now, it does appear that that is now on one of the shoulders. but notice here our speed sensors are still detecting some of that slowing, likely because of the incident that occurred there. so we're going to do some digging there.

it doesn't appear to be blocking any lanes, but because it is a big rig, there could be some slow spots through that stretch. now, we do have of course, our bridges that we're always keeping an eye out for san mateo bridge. the dumbarton bridge also looks nice and clear through there down through the south bay. typical slowing along 280. i did check to see if there were any issues there. it does not appear so. it looks like it's just that morning commute build up. along with that, we're also starting to see a build up along westbound 80 towards the bay bridge earlier it was at about eight minutes. now we're at about 12 minutes. so no major delays there. but westbound 580 through the richmond bridge we're looking at about seven minutes and westbound 82 towards the san mateo bridge about 12 minutes. the south bay drive times the only areas that have started to see slow down a bit is northbound 101. there are no crashes through there, but it looks like the traffic is beginning to build. from highway 85, you're looking at about 22 minutes. i'll have a closer look at how san francisco, the north bay, and of course the east bay is doing once again, coming up
