a stunning decision to drop out of the election following weeks of mounting pressure. we are live in washington this morning with details inside those final moments of his decision. a lot of those younger voters who might be more inclined to vote democratic, but really were turned off by joe biden. they're going to be taking another look. well, now the attention shifts to vice president kamala harris as she vows to earn the democratic nomination. the local support she's gaining as a potential first black woman on a major party ticket. plus, our countdown to paris, the opening ceremony just four days away. we are here with the final preparations on today in the ba. and good morning to you on this monday. thanks for making us a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. let's get a look at the

forecast. it's always a nice start to our mornings here in the bay area, but what are we in store for? let's check in with kari. yeah, we are getting ready for some higher heat today. and the weekend was so nice to take a break, but today it comes back with these areas in pink included in an excessive heat warning. with our temperatures in the upper 90s and near 100 degrees. a heat advisory in effect for the santa cruz mountains and the santa clara valley, and much of the north bay as well, away from the coastline. at least we do have our cool start this morning. it is 54 as you step out in sonoma. it is 56 in fremont and 54 in morgan hill. while in san jose we're in the low 60s and headed for the upper 80s. today we start to see the heat risk ramping up to major, where we will see a high of 100 degrees in concord, 105 in clear lake today, while san francisco will be in the mid 70s. so we'll talk about our very warm start to the week coming up in just a few minutes. sounds good. we'll check back with you. now to

decision 2024 and the historic shakeup in the race for the presidency. now here is a live look at the white house this morning. leading democrats already falling in line behind president biden in support of vice president kamala harris receiving the democratic party nomination. the president's decision to bow out and endorse harris means his 50 year career in politics will soon come to an end. today in the bay's brie jackson live in washington this morning and brie, the vice president is already in overdrive trying to win that full party support. that's right. good morning laura marcus. and the vice president has already received some key endorsements from lawmakers on capitol hill. on sunday, vice president harris had multiple phone calls with president biden before he announced that he would not seek reelection and would endorse her instead. harris spent more than ten hours, we're told, placing calls, including to presidents clinton and obama, as well as top democrats in congress, making it clear that she plans to work hard to earn the

democratic nomination in an historic move, president biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race, writing, i believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down. the news sending shock waves through the nation. it was a shock, but at the same time, they must feel it's best for the election. i think he made a choice for the country and i'm in favor of it. the president's decision follows weeks of calls for him to step aside, citing concerns about his poor debate, performance, age and ability to lead for four more years. if reelected. the 81 year old says he's now offering his full support for his vice president, kamala harris, to be this year's democratic nominee and a statement she says i will do everything in my power to unite the democratic party and unite our nation to defeat donald trump. some lawmakers are also throwing their support behind
6:04 am
the 59 year old. there's no time for bitterness, man. we have got to unite behind this ticket with kamala harris at the helm and move forward. she carries into this campaign the biden record, and it is a good record. former president trump's team has been preparing to run against harris for weeks. he's criticized her even before president biden ended his campaign. she's not a competent person. she shouldn't be president. i mean, she's being laughed at all over the world. the world is now watching and waiting to see what the democratic party ticket will be, and president biden will stay on for the remainder of his term. he said he will address the nation about his decision later this week. marcus. laura. well, brie, we know that a source of pressure for president biden to drop out was major donors, saying that they were going to withhold some money from his campaign. do we know how those same donors are reacting to vice president harris announcing that she potentially wants this top job? well, laura, it appears
6:05 am
that donations are rolling in. grassroots supporters have raised nearly $50 million following vice president harris's campaign launch. now we're told that was the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle. and major donors have also signaled their support for the vice president's campaign. all right, those coffers always so important. we'll see where it goes from here. brie. thank you. and while the biden announcement reverberates around the nation here in the bay area, her endorsement, his endorsement is triggering a new wave of pride. that's because the woman now in line for the nomination began her political career right here today in the bay's ginger conejero saab. live for us in san francisco this morning. and ginger, i know local leaders they are wasting no time throwing their support behind kamala harris. that's right. good morning marcus. well, we saw that first endorsement for vice president harris come from president biden himself. and now we're seeing local leaders speak
6:06 am
up in support of the vice president. these are local leaders who know her well with her roots, in local politics here in san francisco as well as the bay area later this morning, there will be a rally at san francisco city hall in support of the vice president and a run for the presidency that will be led by local leaders as well as san francisco mayor london bree. we have an opportunity to ensure that we rally around someone who has been working hard. standing by president biden is someone from san francisco, has a track record of being a fierce prosecutor and of leading the district attorney's office, leading the attorney general's office of the state of california and all the jobs she's had, whether it was the district attorney, whether it was the attorney general, or whether she was the person in the category of cross examining supreme court nominees, she's
6:07 am
always been outstanding. and no question in my mind that she will continue to be equally as outstanding. vice president harris is seen as the front runner at this point, with the vice president herself vowing to earn and win the democratic nomination, which would make her the first black and asian american to lead a major party ticket. harris was born in oakland and raised in berkeley, the daughter of immigrants from india and jamaica. now, governor gavin newsom is also endorsing the vice president, describing her as tough, fearless and tenacious. in a post on x, he said, quote, with our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against donald trump's dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than america's vice president, kamala harris. representative barbara lee also sharing the same sentiments. come on, she's a prosecutor and
6:08 am
the republican nominee is a convicted felon. we still have a lot of work to do, and she's prepared to just carry that baton forward. so there's no one as prepared as she is. no one is experienced and no one who can step up on day one, and hit the ground running. well, speaking of hitting the ground running, those local leaders here in san francisco that are going to support the host that rally and support the vice president, that kicks off at 9:00 this morning. we will be there. we'll bring you updates both on air and online at nbc bay area .com. a lot of eyes watching as the days show or as we watch really closely what the days will show marcus back to you. all right. yeah. a lot of people will be watching. all right, ginger, thank you. one of california's leading democrats already applauding the weekend shake up. house lawmaker adam schiff was among the first lawmakers calling for president biden to end his reelection bid. he tells today it was really about his party winning this november. i
6:09 am
have every confidence in his abilities as president and his ability to continue doing the remarkable job that he's doing, but i am very excited to throw my full support behind the vice president. i've seen her work as a prosecutor, as an attorney general, as a senator, as vice president, i'm very excited to work with her as president. i haven't seen this kind of excitement in the democratic party in quite a long time. some republican lawmakers, meanwhile, are arguing biden should step down now rather than finish his term. you can watch congressman schiff's full interview on today. it's coming up at 7:00 this morning, right after today in the bay and for updates on the presidential race, make sure to download our free nbc bay area app. you can get updates. stream us whenever you're on the go. it's free and available on your local app store. 609 for you this morning as we take a live look out in walnut creek, there are. the sun is trying to come up this morning, but how hot will it bring the heat?

well, let's turn over to meteorologist kari hall. she's been tracking that for us. it's going to be a warm day. and typically, air quality is an issue with some people, too. yes, absolutely. on these hot days, with the high pressure that develops and creates the extreme heat, it also pushes down on the surface, hence the name high pressure. and it's also going to keep any pollutants and all the ozone down in the valley. so our air quality outlook is a little bit worse for today. we are looking at some moderate air quality with the worst of it. that measure of particulate matter, the highest in parts of the east bay along the rest of the bay area. we are going to see in the moderate range a hazy look to the sky may be hard to see the hills if they're farther in the distance. as you're looking out today, and we're seeing that already as we take a live look at our sunrise over san francisco, looking from our sutro tower camera, where we're not seeing as much in the way of fog, it will be breezy temperatures going from mid 50s to seeing some cool weather still continuing here, but our

valleys will have to deal with upper 90s and even triple digit temperatures for highs again today. so we'll talk about what's ahead for the rest of the week. coming up, vianey you're starting to see a few things slowing down out there. we definitely are. and one of those locations is the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights are officially on, and you can see now we're starting to get some delays through that stretch. also approaching the bay bridge toll plaza along westbound 80. we're also starting to notice some slowing on our speed sensor maps. now, i do want to get started with kind of a wide look at the south bay. this is probably one of our clearest areas when it comes to the roads, because if you notice we have seen a few issues pop up along 880. and right now we're getting reports of a crash along northbound 880 near exit 37, which is 66th avenue. it appears the right hand shoulder is blocked, but it's also starting to cause some slowing backing up because of what could be an accident involving a big rig, it appears, and we're going to get a closer look at that. the chp reports right now not showing if
6:12 am
anybody has been hurt. hopefully everybody is okay. but your tri valley drive times also showing some slowing along westbound 580 from grant line road to 680. you're looking at 23 minutes. we'll have a closer look at that. east bay update coming up. all right. thanks, vianey. the countdown to the olympics is on just four days to go now. coming up next on today in the bay, we're going to take you to paris and show you the final preps underway right now for the opening ceremony this week. and an inside look at the olympics mega store. you won't want to miss. well, if you're flying there or anywhere else you may discover the squeeze is on as things get even tighter out to the futures. this morning. see what wall street is going to do for us. there they are. it looks like it is going to be a fairly calm day. back in a minute.

6:16 am
about 11 minutes and the san mateo bridge starting to slow down. westbound 92, you're looking at about 19 minutes. we'll have a closer look at the east bay and the south bay drive times coming up. well good morning. very happy monday to you. futures are steady as wall street seems to be okay with all that political news over the weekend. delta airlines still struggling with friday's global computer outage. we'll talk more about that in a minute. tesla sank about 4% on friday. it is the weakest of the so-called magnificent seven that have been boosting the markets lately. in fact, we're seeing new investor behavior as lower interest rates may get closer. we're seeing what they're calling rotation. that is money coming out of like the magnificent seven, which of course includes nvidia and into small cap companies up and comers. the problem with small cap companies is they don't have a lot of money on hand, so they're always at greater risk during times of higher interest rates. but the bet on wall street is that rates are coming

down. there's also the trump trade investors putting their money into things they think will benefit if trump wins the presidency again. it'll be interesting to see if the trump trade fades now that he has a new opponent and you have all those silicon valley bigwigs talking about trump, mark zuckerberg on bloomberg friday, praising trump even though trump has threatened to jail zuckerberg. zuckerberg did not specifically endorse trump, but some big names in venture, like marc andreessen, have endorsed the former president. okay, delta airlines still having problems with its computers after that friday meltdown. we still have hiccups here and there ourselves here in the tv station. not all our video walls are working properly. this one's fine. the secretary of transportation is not happy about it, i mean, delta. pete buttigieg calls the cancellations unacceptable. says i have made it clear to delta that we will hold them to all applicable passenger protections. delta canceled 1 in

4 flights sunday and is so full with summer travel, it's having trouble finding seats for all those who need to be rebooked. and this is interesting, travel blogger gary leff says alaska wants to put more comfort class rows into its planes, but extra space is going to have to come from somewhere. and on larger seven three sevens, the 800 series that may have to come from first class. no comment from alaska. turns out that middle section is very popular. it's not too big. it's not well, it is too small. it is definitely too. especially when you have long legs. it's like, oh gosh, i bet. oh yeah. oh wow. always, always. well at least i tried. oh yeah. oh yeah i need that. really. yeah. because then i just put my legs out like that and then, but then you know, people come by and you just have to move the car, watch for the cart or or the flight attendants, sir. yeah sorry. not me. i'm all cozy in the little window section. all right. thanks, guys. hey, we're counting down to friday and the

opening ceremony for the paris olympic games. the event taking place along the river sin, which may be quiet right now, but just give it a few days and a first of its kind ceremony. some 10,000 athletes will make their way by boat down the river sein. workers are constructing barricades along the route now for open public seating. the parade of athletes will end at the iconic eiffel tower. you know, even the arc de triomphe is in part of the olympic spirit. take a look at this. you can see at the top of the arc a giant paralympic symbol on display there. now the eiffel tower. meanwhile decked out in the olympic rings and the olympic sized souvenir megastore. let's talk about that. it is already getting a head start of the opening ceremony. it is one of dozens of such stores opening throughout france, and this one by far the largest. we're talking about 10,000ft■!s. this is a long the channels and a reminder for you. nbc bay area is your home for

all things olympics, and you can watch the paris games right here on nbc bay area where we kick things off. it will all start with that opening ceremony on friday. all right. it'll be nice there, and it will be warm here in the bay area. yes, the heat is going to be cranking up today and lasting through midweek, but then easing up just in time for our weekend. so we'll just have to make it through three days with some excessive heat and the major heat risk that will be coming in for the valleys once again by the end of the week. it's looking better and the weekend is going to be comfortable with a breezy wind picking up today, we will see a heat advisory in effect for these areas in orange, including much of the north bay in pink. that's a step up and excessive heat warning that we'll see in the delta and much of the east bay down to the south bay. but right now we're starting out at 61. in livermore, and it's 58 in oakland. mid 50s for san francisco as well as mostly mid 50s for the north bay. so a nice
6:21 am
cool start to the day. but then take a look at our highs up to 94 in napa and santa rosa in san francisco. it's in the mid 70s and 60s near the coast. so you can see the range and temperatures that we'll have as our high temperatures hit the triple digits in fairfield and concord and in the south bay were mostly in the mid 90s, san jose in the upper 80s for today and about a degree or two hotter for tomorrow. this will be the peak of the heat, where we're starting to see a lot more red on the map here. that's a major heat risk as this with prolonged exposure may have an impact to your health. as our temperatures head for the upper 90s in napa, it will be 106 in ukiah, so we'll just have to plan our day around the heat, make sure we're staying hydrated and taking breaks in the shade. if you have to work outside, we're going to see the heat. still with us on wednesday. the excessive heat warning most likely still in effect, but then we're not seeing it as intense for much more of the bay area. as the heat continues to ease up, it
6:22 am
will get cooler late in the week as that high pressure moves off towards the east. that allows for our ocean breeze, more fog to develop along the coastline, and eventually a jet stream moving into the pacific northwest. bringing some storms that way will help cool down our temperatures here and livermore will go from seeing highs in the triple digits to only 70s and 80s for the weekend, such a major change, but looking forward to it coming at a really great time where we'll see some more comfortable weather for the weekend. but to start out our week as our temperatures hit over 100 degrees, it will be very hot for the next three days. but looking better once again as we look ahead in this forecast. vianey you are looking at a few more spots starting to get that congestion on the roads. yeah, i mean, take a look here in richmond. you could see the backup there. as we approach a lot of our bridges. this is exactly what we can expect to see right around this time, including the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights definitely on. now we're starting to see this slowing down along 80. and we can expect
6:23 am
to also see some slower spots throughout the majority of the roads now. fremont right now. smooth commute through there. no major slowdowns as far as any drive times go for the south bay. we're looking good in through mountain view fremont as well. 880 though still causing a bit of a problem from an earlier crash. we're talking northbound 880 right near 66 avenue. it appears the right hand shoulder is still blocked, and you can see it's starting to cause some delays. so you definitely want to take some extra time. if that's a part of your morning commute, i'll send it back to you all right. thank you. 622 for you this morning. next here on today in the bay nbc bay area responds thousands of dollars vanish from a couple's account. they see fraud. the bank does not. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura, nbc bay area responds next

6:33 am
coverage this morning taking a look at her. both her bay area upbringing and her political background. but a big question right now. scott mcgrew joins us. can vice president harris even defeat donald trump? right yeah. the biggest question perhaps there is in november. all the polling we have is from past weeks, where a harris trump matchup was still theoretical. and to be fair, it's still theoretical. the vice president has not been nominated yet. and nbc poll conducted way back in early july showed trump ahead of harris by two points. but that was well within the margin of error. so inconclusive. and this is a national poll. and as we have said, so many times, we don't elect presidents with the nationwide vote. we elect state by state. and harris would still likely struggle with some of the battleground states like pennsylvania or arizona, the same way any democrat does, which may influence her choice for vice president should she win the nomination. among the
6:34 am
names being batted about mark kelly, the former astronaut now senator from arizona, josh shapiro from pennsylvania, governor whitmer from the very important state of michigan. secretary pete buttigieg is supposed to be in that picture, not gavin newsom. he's from indiana originally. buttigieg is, one way or the other, new energy in the race. this is a incredible matchup. we've got a former prosecutor running against a convicted felon. we've got someone in vice president harris with a record of integrity, with a record of success legislatively. and as vice president, running against someone who ran our country into the ground. more from adam schiff coming up on today at seven. all right. so we enter a strange state of uncertainty in the next few weeks. seems clear harris will be the candidate, but we can't say that for sure until the democrats make it official. some republicans calling for biden to step down now, arguing if he's too old to
6:35 am
run, he's too old to finish out his term. but business as usual at least once the president recovers from covid, he's scheduled to meet with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu tomorrow. the white house says the vice president, harris will sit in on that meeting. here's the prime minister. moments ago at the airport in israel. i plan to see president biden, whom i've known for over 40 years. this will be an opportunity to thank him for the things he did for israel in the war and during his long and distinguished career in public service as senator and vice president and as president. president biden used social media to make sunday's announcement. he's out sick. so a nationwide address wasn't in the cards. that will come out later this week. but this whole idea of a social media announcement made history with simultaneous postings on instagram and the former twitte. obviously, you know, the word has spread tremendously, since then. but really within minutes,

it was probably the tweet heard around the world, so it is completely upended. the 2024 presidential race. we haven't seen anything like this since 1968. so it's a very momentous occasion now when he says 68, he's referring to president lyndon johnson, who also decided not to run for a second election. johnson didn't have twitter, so he did it on television. i shall not seek and i will not accept the nomination of my party for another term as your president. now, vice president harris had a previously scheduled speech today about college athletics with the ncaa. we understand she's going to keep that appointment starting at 8 a.m. our time. so we will be hearing from the person who will likely be the democratic president, democratic candidate for president. and laura, nbc news will break in with a special report when that happens. yes, we're waiting for it sometime this morning. thank you very

much. so in the midst of so much uncertainty over what may happen over the next few weeks, one thing is certain. vice president kamala harris, now that front runner for the democratic presidential nomination, one man who knows the vice president well, is doctor cordelia cortez. i should say he's an adjunct professor at pepperdine university. and the author of a new book, kamala the motherland and me. and it's out tomorrow. okay, so the timing of this one for you couldn't be better. i must say, here. of course, of course. you know, tavis smiley was telling me, hey, give me some lotto numbers while you're at it. yeah. no kidding. okay, so unusual set of circumstances here propelling the vice president to be this front runner. now, for the nomination. i understand that you actually spent some time with her on her trip to africa. do you think she would be the right nominee for the democratic party right now? and have you had the chance to talk to her? i did, i had a
6:38 am
chance to talk with the vice president during an exclusive one on one interview that's included in the book. we snuck it in the book right before publishing, and so folks have a chance to hear her talk about a whole wide range of issues related to the trip to africa, where we were in ghana, tanzania and zambia. over the course of a little bit more than a week. and listen, i found the vice president to be competent to be cutting edge and capable of meeting the moment that trip to africa was not just something that staff people put together. it's something that she envisioned, an opportunity to turn the page in terms of how people see the continent. this could have very easily been a trip about, you know, public health and humanitarian aid. she decided to make it about investing in africa, investing in the future, where by 2051 in
6:39 am
4 people on the planet will reside in africa. and so while we were there, i sat a front row seat to seeing her meet with other leaders on the world stag, seeing her, you know, talk through issues ranging from national security to efforts to fight against climate change on the continent, addressing issues related to digital inclusion. well, where in africa, two thirds of the folks who have access to the internet are men and not women. and so i observed a vice president that was on it that seamlessly connected the dots between a whole wide range of issues that are important, not just to africa, but to america and the future of the world. well, one of the things that the vice president really must do if she's nominated to the top of this ticket, is unify voters that are headed to the polls at all. a recent nbc news poll put her popularity behind both trump and biden at the time. how do you think she'll be
6:40 am
able to turn that around come november? i think vice president harris is going to be able to excite the democratic base. i think she's going to be a uniter, not a divider. you know how i know? because she's done that her entire career. to all of our viewers in the bay area, you're familiar with their history as district attorney for the city and county of san francisco, as attorney general of california, as a u.s. senator for california, and now vice president. every step of the way, she has brought with her a coalition of folks that, you know, look, a lot like california, that look a lot like the diversity of this country. you know, let me just tell you, when we were in ghana, there is a bill that was making its way through the ghanaian parliament, an anti lgbtq bill, and she was asked by one of my colleagues during a press conference, and she didn't back down, shoulders straight back up, you know, she

have some outdoor activities you need to get done before it heats up, well, the next few hours is your time. we're right now in the mid to upper 50s in much of the north bay, and sonoma will see those temperatures going from 50s to already low 70s at 10:00, headed up to the low 80s for the noon hour, and then the 90s for today. we will see those temperatures peaking around 3 to 4:00 today. and then starting to come back down for the evening. but some of our valleys will be in the upper 90s, like livermore, 99 degrees today, 100 in fairfield and 103 today in ukiah. so we'll get a look at what's ahead with more heat ahead coming up in a few minutes in vianey has been tracking the morning commute and boy, it looks busy right there. it's so busy. if the bay bridge toll plaza is a part of your morning commute, you're going to need some extra time. the metering lights have been on now for about an hour, and notice the delays now are stretching beyond the toll plaza along westbound 80. now san jose right now. the south bay has been doing pretty good as far as any major alerts,

but i do want to remind folks that we're still seeing that slowing right around 880 northbound near exit 37, which is right around 66th avenue. the right hand shoulder remains blocked due to an earlier crash that they are working to clear out, but you can see there definitely see some of that red and yellow slowing. now, as far as our bridges go, this is a live camera of what we were just looking at. but if you notice, this does extend beyond that toll plaza back towards that 580 interchange. and if you notice down through the south bay things are looking good. your drive time so far, no major slow spots northbound to 80. from highway 101, you're looking at about eight minutes. i'll send it back to you. all right. thanks vianey. our coverage of the presidential election continues ahead. all eyes now on the vice president. we are at the elementary school, which bears her image on a mural. lots of bay area ties here, but we'll talk with voters to about whether the ties matter or

possibility kamala harris may become the democratic presidential nominee. now that news providing a sudden jolt in the east bay, where her roots extend from oakland to berkeley. today in the bay's kris sanchez live for us this morning, she's outside of her former elementary school, which has a mule in her honor. kris. and the sense of pride there must be hitting new levels this morning. well, the district certainly is feeling very proud. they put out a statement this morning saying that they are very excited for this moment in time. we're talking about thousand oaks elementary school. this is the mural here. there are other notable women figures and the word persist, which is likely going to be something that the vice president is going to have to do if she is going to make it onto that main ticket. now, as you likely know, harris is. all right there, kris. well, we knew vice president harris grew up in oakland. her home is now a

montessori school. this is before attending public elementary school in berkeley as part of the desegregation program. now her mother, who is from india, was involved in civil rights fight. and harris and her sister bore witness to all of that. when her mother was going, they were picketing and advocating for civil rights. and at a very, very young age, after leaving the bay area, the vice president attended howard university, a historically black university, but returned to attend the university of california law school and then worked in the san francisco district attorney's office, where there is excitement in the bay area harris is likely to be a presidential ticket. now, some voters tell us that they are more focused on policy than roots. there's still a lot of questions on kamala and what her policy is going to be. but i think for a lot of voters, you know, a lot of people in my community, i'm muslim and pakistani, you know, this has

been like the biggest issue, the singular issue that we've been paying attention to, you know, the day to day realities, of, you know, being in oakland are affected by, like, who maya, oakland or like county supervisors are, not so much the president. the fact that biden is supporting her. i think if obama came out and said, yeah, stick with kamala. i think it depends how the other major players, what they do now, democrats are showing out for the vice president. ginger is following that part of the story. it's coming up for you a little bit later in berkeley, kris sanchez has been following that for us. but of course, we will continue to follow all things happening with this election. you can follow us on nbcbayarea.com. well, oakland's newest baseball team suddenly shifting after an unexpected move. still, early in his first season, the ballers are now looking for a new manager. they fired manager mickey franklin over the weekend. just 54 games into the inaugural season, and still four games above 500 in

the pioneer league, team executives are looking for a different approach. third base coach aaron miles will take over as interim interim manager for now, and they've hired another assistant coach, james harris, who back in 2011 was a first round draft pick. well, with the opening ceremony now just four days away for the olympics, team usa naming its male flag bearer, you may say, oh, this is a familiar person. yeah. you see him right there. you know who that is? lebron james will carry the old glory. you might even call this new glory for king james, who is taking part in his fourth olympic games female selection will be announced tomorrow. team usa, made up of 592 athletes, about two thirds of them will participate in friday's opening ceremony. and our very own jessica aguirre already getting ready for paris. and if you know her, that includes a lot of luggage. as she showed us in this tiktok video. hey dan, i mean bonjour. oh, you mean oh, avoir. goodbye,

comfortable in time for the weekend. but we know that sometimes when it gets hot, we also have a hazy sky and we're seeing that as well this time around with a lot of fires burning across the region. and so we not only have ozone with the heat and the high pressure pushing it down and keeping it in the valleys, but we're also dealing with some of that particulate matter that's measuring a lot higher in parts of the east bay. as you're heading out this morning, if you do have any kind of breathing problems, you're sensitive to wildfire smoke. you do want to limit your time outside. today. this is a look at our near surface smoke model that shows a lot of haziness to our sky with that lighter shade of blue. and we're seeing that this morning as you're heading out. and one good thing you can do to help reduce that amount of the carbon pollution, as well as the ozone, is a catch. public transit carpool, get a ride with someone. as we're getting started this morning, temperatures in palo alto are in the upper 50s. it will be an already in the upper 60s at

10:00 and headed for the upper 70s at 1:00 today. eventually we'll make it into the upper 80s there in palo alto, san jose will see a high of 89 degrees, and we see the oranges and reds here on the color contours on the map here. that's a moderate to major heat risk, just depending on how far you are away from the coastline and the prolonged exposure to temperatures like 100 degrees that we'll see in concord may have some impact to your health. you have to watch out for those signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. and it's going to be even hotter tomorrow with a high of 102 in livermore and a lot of widespread 90s and up to 106 in ukiah tomorrow afternoon. on wednesday, it's still hot, but not as intense, and that will be the last day of this heat wave before this high pressure starts to ease up and head off towards the east. finally allowing back our ocean breeze and that cooling air to come in. also, the dip in the jet stream across the pacific northwest will help reinforce that cooler air coming in. and

look at how things will change for brentwood. we go from triple digits to only mid 80s for the weekend, and that's one of our warmer spots. a lot of the bay area will drop back into the 70s, so one, two, three days of some high heat and then it starts to improve by the end of the week. and in san francisco, we're not feeling as much of the warm weather. it will be in the upper 70s for tomorrow, and then we're dropping it back to the 60s and 70s for the rest of the week. vianey you've been watching the roads and any slowdowns out there? we do have a couple of areas that are now really starting to see some delays, including the san mateo bridge. look at that backed up at least there are no hazards that you need to be aware of as far as the bridges go. just the typical morning slowing, but here's another area that i want to show you as well. 580 there appears to be some sort of police activity that is starting to cause some delays. actually, in both directions at this point. so keep this in mind. we'll keep you updated. another area that's starting to clear up now is northbound 880 near 66 avenue. that earlier crash has
