tracking today's high temperatures and how long this warm weather is sticking around. this week. this is today in the bay a very good tuesday morning to you. 5:00 right now. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. let's get you started with a look at that forecast. meteorologist kari hall is tracking today's high temperatures. and where are we looking at today? it's going to be the same spots that had to deal with the heat yesterday. the excessive heat warning going back up at 11:00 this morning and continuing into 11:00 or 8:00 tomorrow evening as we're also seeing some excessive heat for the inland east bay. the rest of the bay area, excluding the coastline, will be under a heat advisory. so we're starting out this morning a little bit warmer than it was yesterday. at this time, we're in the upper 60s for san jose. we're in the upper 50s and low 60s for the north bay and heading back to the upper 90s and triple digits for the valleys in the north

bay, 92 in santa rosa, while concord will hit a high of 100 degrees. we'll reach a high of 102 today in livermore, we'll be tracking more of this heat through tomorrow, and then it starts to ease up. so we'll talk more about what's ahead for the end of the week. and the weekend. coming up in a few minutes. sounds good. and don't forget, our nbc bay area weather app is a great resource to track temperatures in your neighborhood. all you have to do is scan the qr code on your screen to download it for free. well, this morning, vice president kamala harris is quickly gaining support. a majority of pledged democratic convention delegates are endorsing harris and for the first time, president biden, speaking out about leaving the race and passing the torch as republicans pivot their focus today in the bay's brie jackson live for us in washington this morning and brie vp harris, of course, getting right on the campaign trail today. that's right. good morning marcus. so today, vice president harris will travel to wisconsin marking the first battleground state

campaign stop of her 2024 presidential campaign. and this will be the vice president's fifth visit to that state this year, and her ninth since taking office. after a major political shakeup, vice president kamala harris is reintroducing herself, meeting with staff at what's now her presidential campaign headquarters in delaware. and it is my intention to go out and earn this nomination and to win. yes president biden isolating in rehoboth beach after testing positive for covid, called in to the campaign. i want you to know i won't be on the ticket, but i'm still going to be fully, fully engaged. following biden's exit from the race and endorsement of harris top democrats are coalescing around the 59 year old. she is well equipped to prosecute. i want to emphasize to prosecute the case against donald trump. the trump

vance ticket is ramping up its criticism of the former prosecutor, putting the blame directly on harris for the biden administration's challenges at the u.s. southern border. kamala harris is america's border czar. and how's our border doing, ladies and gentlemen? while questions remain about the democratic party's ticket, including a potential running mate, harris's run for president is energizing donors, raising $81 million in just 24 hours. but some americans say they still want to know more about the candidate. she might be a little bit harder to beat because, there isn't any mud on her that i've heard about. what can she do for our economy? what can she do again, in those aspects that i feel like trump may be kind of aligns more? i guess, is my thought harris is seeking to make her case on the campaign trail and on the organizing front, there's been a

surge with 58,000 individuals signing up to volunteer with the harris campaign since sunday afternoon. marcus. and with that brie the democrats. of course, things are moving quickly there. their convention less than a month away. vice president harris doesn't have a lot of time to pick that vp, or at least her running mate here. do you know if she's getting any help? so we do know that vice president harris has tapped former attorney general eric holder and his law firm to dig into the backgrounds of potential vice presidential picks. holder served as attorney general for president barack obama for six years now. some of the names being mentioned include pennsylvania's governor josh shapiro and u.s. senator mark kelly from arizona. all right, a lot of work to be done in a short time. brie jackson in washington this morning. bree. thank you. and there are so many developments coming in ahead of the november election. to get those updates on the race, be sure to download our free nbc bay area app. it is available

for all smartphones, and you can find it on your local app store in just a few hours. the vacaville community is coming together to honor a fallen officer who lost his life in the line of duty. the memorial comes after crucial review on the suspect, who's charged with the officer's death today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live this morning. and ginger, the decision from this review can really potentially change the course of this case. that's correct. good morning to you, laura. the defendant in this case, 24 year old serena rodriguez, is charged with the murder of fallen officer matthew bowen. now, she was arraigned in court yesterday when the judge declared doubt that she is competent to stand trial. now, that will be the focus of the next hearing that's scheduled for next month. later this morning, however, the city of vacaville will pay its respects to officer bowen, who was killed while making a traffic stop along interstate 80 near leisure town road and orange drive. back

in june. he was struck by rodriguez, who authorities suspect was driving under the influence of drugs. now, according to chp, rodriguez tried to flee on foot after the collision but was stopped by bystanders. she was booked into solano county jail on homicide and dui charges. officer bowen previously served with concord police prior to vacaville police for three and a half years. now. he joined vacaville pd in june of last year. he was 34 years old and leaves behind a wife and two sons this morning. his family and the city of vacaville will pay their respects with a funeral service at 1030. that will be followed by a procession through the city and the closure of off ramps along interstate 80 and 505 in vacaville. now, the funeral will be closed to the public, but it will be live streamed on vacaville city's youtube channel youtube account. you will also have more coverage on that funeral on our midday

newscast and at nbcbayarea.com in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay you very much ginger. well, now to a look at the state capitol, where flags are being lowered at half staff in honor of a caltrans worker who was killed on the job. alexander rodriguez was killed after being struck by a vehicle while working on interstate five in san clemente. he was 55 years old. he is survived by two adult children and a sister, as well as a brother. rodriguez is the 194th caltrans worker to lose their life on the job since 1921. now to a follow up. the unsheltered living in an east bay homeless encampment could be cleared out as soon as today. the city of oakland put up notices for the encampment on the toll plaza beach. the group living in the area, who say they're all battling significant health issues, filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination after the city tried to clear their encampment a few weeks ago. a judge had

granted a temporary restraining order after the group filed the lawsuit. however, the order is now expired. 508 this morning, as we take a live look from our emeryville camera, taking a look at the bay bridge and to the city of the bay, san francisco. meteorologist kari hall tracking the weather for us and this morning, very pleasant outside. very nice there. especially in san francisco, where we're starting out at 55 degrees. and we know that it's going to be much cooler compared to the inland areas. walnut creek starts out the morning at 67 degrees, and we're seeing upper 60s for a lot of cities around the bay area, but it will also be hazy today as we get some near surface smoke coming in once again, very much like yesterday. a look at the wider view shows that we do have quite a few fires burning, and one of the bigger ones is farther off towards the south and east over parts of the sequoia national forest. so we're watching that as our temperatures once again heat up and head for the mid to upper 90s in the north bay. napa

today, 97 degrees 102 today in livermore and in fairfield. but this is the peak of the heat before our temperatures gradually come back down. so we'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike's been showing us places where we can get some gas for less. yeah, we're holding with some lows familiar from last week. we're looking at san jose still leads the bay's best. we'll give a shout out to the big bucks this time. we're looking at 363 at the costco on center road. great gas on stevens creek still has the same price as well. nice drop in price for marin county. the middle number here, 389 at san rafael. that's at mobil on ritter street. and we're looking at east bay's low of 395. that's in alameda county's fremont vargas on grimmer boulevard. these are all reported by all of us at gasbuddy.com. it's a cooperative thing on the roadways, cooperating just fine out here, except for in san francisco watching a couple incidents just off i-80 eastbound and a 101 so close to where those two roadways meet. we're looking at a couple of incidents. nothing in the

using the chevy's a member of congress wants the ceo of crowdstrike to testify to explain what went wrong last friday that knocked so many computers off line all over the world. crowdstrike ceo george kurtz went on the today show just hours after his company pushed that bad file to all kinds of windows computers, explaining what happened. but tennessee congressman mark green says the homeland security committee should hear more about how to prevent it from happening again. and the san francisco business times is put together a list of the most expensive towns in the bay area. you can probably guess atherton is at the top of the list. average house. there $7.7 million. the list shows the marina as the most expensive neighborhood in san francisco. los altos gets the top nod in santa clara county. alamo in contra costa county, fremont in alameda county, all places that i will never be living. yes, i lived in the marina. did you really?

tomorrow before you know, i'm just going to relax for the rest of the week and let the weather cool off a little bit. here is a clear view at our beautiful start to the day in san jose now. it feels nice now, but it's going to heat up quickly today. and right now we're at 69 degrees and we're also feeling some high humidity. the humidity is going to be a factor today. and the next couple of days we'll talk about that in a second. but right now, as we take a look at our trend at 9:00, we're at 77 degrees. we're in the upper 80s already at lunchtime. so you'll probably want to take that inside as our high temperature heads for 93 degrees, it will be 99. in los gatos today, as well as 99 in morgan hill, some upper 90s for parts of the south bay, but a lot of highs over 100 degrees from antioch to livermore. we're up to 102 today, 101 in walnut creek in oakland, reaching a high of 83 degrees 88, in redwood city and in daly city, a

nice 68 degrees with fog rolling by. and in san francisco it will be in the upper 70s. downtown and mill valley will reach a high of 84. but a short drive to novato it will be 95 degrees and 92. in santa rosa, the hottest temperature on the map here is ukiah, reaching 106 today. as we look at some mid level moisture, this is the remnants of a tropical system that's pushing in some clouds as well as higher humidity for today. so this will be surging into the bay area as we go into this afternoon. you'll notice some interesting looking clouds today. beautiful sunrise and sunset. but also the thing that's of higher concern here will be the potential of dry lightning. so anywhere where we see these blue little specks here, that shows the potential of some lightning strikes today, mainly over the sierra, over towards the east as well parts of southern california. but then

we'll see that surge up again tomorrow with the heat of the day. so any lightning strikes across the region could start some new fires, so that lightning potential will be something we'll have to closely watch. looking at our temperatures today, a muggy 100 degrees for concord this afternoon. it's looking a little bit better tomorrow, but still pretty hot. and there will be that heat risk. but look at the weekend as the humidity drops, our temperatures will drop too and will only make it into the upper 70s on saturday. i am so looking forward to not having to blast the ac. here's a look at the rest of the forecast with our temperatures coming down into early next week and we're keeping it nice and mild in san francisco with seconds for the next couple of days, and then 60s into the weekend. mike, you're tracking a couple of issues off the bay bridge that's right on the bay bridge. everything moves smoothly here. good steady flow, good volume. look at that. coming around through treasure island and approaching the city without any delays or any interruption in speeds in the city. no major

opening ceremony is this friday, and more than 10,000 athletes will be in attendance as they kick off their mission for gold. but one main topic at the games this year isn't the steep competition. it's our climate in crisis. as athletes are expected to compete in hot temperatures. in fact, the summer season has gotten hotter since the city last hosted the games in 1924, and the 100 year since. paris

has warmed 5.5°f during the olympics period of july, and august. included this time period is the infamous summer of 22,003, when france lost over 14,000 lives from intense heat wave. as far as summer olympics go, athletes, workers and fans are experiencing more frequent and brutal heat waves in extreme heat, and the humidity can affect us all. but the athletes face a higher risk because the body produces 15 to 20 times more heat while exercising and the lack of ac and temperatures. those hot temperatures not recovering overnight makes the situation harder as well. some of the olympics and climate scientists are suggesting summer olympics not be held in the summer, and we'll see if those changes come about in the future. for more on our climate in crisis and possible solutions. and of course, all things olympics, visit our

will finally arrive. this is today in the bay. a very good tuesday morning to you. it's 530 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. let's get you started with a look at that forecast this morning. meteorologist kari hall has a look at what we can expect in those numbers. not looking too bad right now. not right now. it's going to be a nice cool start. and if you do have some outdoor activities you need to get in, try to work it in within the next few hours, especially for parts of the east bay, north bay and south bay, where temperatures will be heating up again today. take a look at martinez. we're going from 64 right now to 8:00 at 69 degrees at 10:00. we're at 77, and at noon it's 86 degrees. we're headed for the 90s today, and we'll reach the peak of that heat during the middle of the afternoon, between 2 and 4:00 later this evening. we'll see temperatures around 80 degrees, but we will see a high of 102 today in livermore. a few more

spots reaching the triple digits. but widespread 90s from the north bay down to san jose, where the high is expected to hit 93 degrees. it will eventually cool off. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, you're still tracking that crash in san francisco? yeah, right over here. just getting off of the bay bridge we've attracted. there were three chp units on scene. now there's only one. so i think everything should be wrapping up any second. no injuries reported, and i don't see slowing on those sensors, although there will be some slowing as the volume builds. there it is over there on the toll plaza side. no metering lights just yet. arrows show you at the top of the screen. highway four, highway 37 show your traditional build. it's tuesday. we'll see a heavier volume than we did yesterday, or at least that's likely. i mean, it plays out right here. kirker pass road showing a longer drive now a slower drive, of course. that's a major surface street. those freeways are still moving well through contra costa county back to you. thanks, mike. vice president kamala harris has enough delegates to secure the democratic nomination for president. and scott mcgrew with us right now. and, scott, no one

has stepped up to run against her. absolutely no one. good morning to you, president biden endorses her. nancy pelosi endorses her. it seems like a done deal. it's also the easiest deal for democrats because we're someone else to run, like gavin newsom or gretchen whitmer. they would not have access to the democratic presidential war chest. harris's name is on that war chest, and so she has access, and it's getting bigger. not only does she have sufficient number of delegates promising to support her, she is smashing fundraising records, raising $100 million in just days. as one pundit pointed out, she beat twisters at the box office over the weekend. here she is speaking about donald trump to her campaign office in delaware today. predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. so hear me when i say

i know donald trump's type. so in the next 106 days, we have work to do. we have doors to knock on. we have people to talk to, we have phone calls to make, and we have an election to win. and a rally at manny's in san francisco last night, a number of harris supporters praising her progress, saying they were energized by this new race. young people, particularly young women. the democratic convention is in chicago next month, but because of some oddities in state rules, the democratic delegates will take a virtual vote ahead of time. some republicans have talked about trying to block her candidacy in the courts, but so far cannot point to any legal justification. political parties don't make their ticket official until the convention for instance, nobody knew that the republican vice presidential candidate was jd vance until the first day of the convention. meanwhile, that candidate says he still wants to debate harris

to the democrats, who are watching. please find some way to make kamala vice president. i was promised a debate with kamala harris, and that's what i plan to get. now, history will remember joe biden as not just a quitter, which he is, but one of the worst presidents in the united states of america. but my friends, kamala harris is a million times worse. and everybody knows it. donald trump, for his part, wants to change the terms of the next presidential debate. he says sometime in september. the two sides have agreed on the date it's september 10th and agreed on using abc. trump says he would like to change that to fo. vice president harris will go to milwaukee today, home of the republican convention last week to campaign. it's her fifth visit to wisconsin this year. her campaign says she'll continue to hammer that theme of prosecutor versus felon. lora

thank you very much, scott. 535 right now, later today, the city of oakland is expected to clear an encampment along a pristine beach just to the north of the bay bridge toll plaza. today, in the bay's bob redell. joining us live this morning. and bob, one of the people who lived there, sued to stop today's sweep. they did their argument that what's going to happen later this morning is illegal. i'll explain why they believe that in a moment. but they did lose that lawsuit. this homeless encampment is behind me on the other side of the bay bridge toll plaza on toll plaza beach, which, if you're not familiar, is just northwest of the toll plaza a by our count, there are six people who live there, some in rvs. if not all of them. at least one person living there for four years. so in a few hours, the city of oakland will ask them to leave. we'll force them to leave, and we'll clean up the encampment in hopes of making that beach safer and more accessible for everyone, according to the chronicle. the president of the san francisco

board sailing association complained that the encampment hindered access to this beach. it's a beach that's prime for recreational water sports, given its location, the city of oakland tells the paper that they offer to people in the encampment, shelter and services. those people sued to stop today's sweep. they argued that the city can't accommodate their needs, given that some of them are disabled living with hiv aids, suffering from ptsd and dementia, and that is a violation of the law, they argue. now, we spoke with oakland city council member noel noel aguilar, who supports this morning's sweep in general, he's fed up with the number of homeless encampments in his city and the open drug use that accompanies them. and we cannot allow that behavior to continue to occur and feel sorry for everybody, and that's the bottom line for me. i, you know, i'm one that grew up on welfare and section eight housing, but at the same time, you know, there was a direction that i needed to

stay in school, learn, get my degrees and be able to take care of my family, come out and offered us things. but nobody's ever received anything for us. so it's pretty much an empty promises, some people say that there is, places to go to, and other people say there isn't. a federal judge said the city of oakland could begin clearing toll plaza beach last friday, but the city tells the chronicle they waited until today to better plan for what happens to these people after today's sweep. one of the people living here, says, telling the paper they'll just go somewhere else. reporting live here at the bay bridge toll plaza. bob redell. today in the bay, you'll find a lot of people will continue to talk about. all right. thanks so much, bob. well, now to disturbing new video, which is getting thousands of views on social media. it shows two people punching and pushing the owner and employee of the san jose market. it happened nearly a week ago at smile market on north fourth street. the owner,

phong tan, says it all started when a man tried to steal a beer from the store. tan's sister, who was working the register at the time, confronted him. the situation quickly turned violent. surveillance video showed he pushed the owner's sister to the ground. she eventually got back up, and then another woman who was with the man punches her. that's when the situation escalated even further outside tan. just getting to the market, became involved, grabbing the couple's stroller, my sister ran out, you know, and she said, oh, they punched me. they punched me and i stopped them. and that's why i you see, i hold the stroller and you want to stop. i want to talk to the guy. why? you punched my sister. she says her hair was also pulled during the confrontation. both sisters went to the hospital, but they were okay. san jose police say the couple took off before officers arrived and they're still investigating. in antioch, leaders are set to move forward with a new sideshow crackdown. city council will make that final vote on an

ordinance prohibiting organizing and advertising sideshows, as well as punishing those who are spectators. that ordinance has been in the works for years now, and it highlights a problem many cities are facing when it comes to slowing down the illegal sideshow activity. that ordinance is expected to go into effect this fall. a follow up now on a tragic story. a man being charged with murder and a dui crash after a crash that actually killed a 16 year old boy. it happened last monday when ricky funez was leaving his aunt's home in richmond, just after midnight. that's when police say a driver under the influence slammed into his car, killing him. three days later, police arrested alexi pineda on a warrant and the district attorney's office says he was arraigned in court yesterday. his bail is set at $1.1 million. and plumas county, the u.s. forest service says the gold complex fire is growing quickly due to the wind, slope and dry conditions. so far, it's charged 700 acres, multiple buildings

are threatened at this point. evacuation orders and warnings are in place. i want to turn now to meteorologist kari hall because she has been tracking all of this. and kari, the temperatures that we're having right now really aren't making that fire fight easy. right? and not only that, but we've had some lightning strikes in this area. this is a live view of the gold complex fire. now, as the sun rises, we can see the flames there, as well as the smoke that is traveling up in a way. and this is definitely one we'll have to watch as we go. throughout today, much of the smoke is blowing away from us, although we do have a hazy sky this morning. the wind direction is showing that much of the smoke will be kind of lingering over parts of the north bay but for the most part, the bulk of the smoke moving off towards the east. and we do have quite a few fires burning across the region. the reason why we are waking up and seeing this orange sky this morning, that we are seeing over walnut creek, but our air quality outlook is moderate, about the same as it was yesterday, as we still have a lot of ozone and particulate

matter in the air. the east bay getting the worst of the measure of that particulate matter. and you might want to limit your time outside. but we're also headed for temperatures over 100 degrees in parts of the east bay concord today, reaching the peak of the heat at 100 degrees 102 in livermore and 104 in clear lake. we're also seeing a lot of 90s for the inland valleys, but we'll talk about a cooldown, hopefully some better air quality in a few minutes. mike's been watching the roads and a couple of issues. yeah, pretty smooth overall, but i want to warn you about a couple of things that are happening today over in the east bay. a little more activity there. we'll have the dual events over here at the coliseum complex. so both the a's are playing as well as a concert tonight, and they'll get out a little bit about the same time. so that may be a factor for folks traveling in the later hours past the coliseum. but before these concerts, that's blending in with the evening traffic flow. now, after that and after the concerts, get out member, the webster two will have maintenance as well. and so instead of using the webster tube, you want to use the

bridges overnight. of course, that can take you into and out of alameda. and that's a typical scheduled closure actually for the next couple of nights, tonight and tomorrow remain for the maintenance work there. there's our expected slowing. we anticipate the buildup and the metering lights in the next couple of minutes. typical slowing for highway 37, highway four and in the city. we do have some slowing around that crash. we talked about that it had not yet cleared from westbound 80 at fremont, and there may be some activity, perhaps a tow truck. i'll check that kris. but right now, over to you. all right. thanks mike. we are breaking down team usa by the numbers ahead on today in the bay. i'm going to give you a closer look at the squad now preparing for the start of the paris olympics. plus murray not just the athletes taking over paris. the blue heeler puppy popping up across the city of lights and heartwarming reasons why. straight ahead. stay with us. you're watching today in the bay

weather alert and for antioch temperature trend, you can see why it's going to be a day of excessive heat here. starting out in the mid 70s at 8:00. at 10:00 we're at 83 degrees, and just two hours later we're already ten degrees hotter headed for the triple digits here for today. we are going to see things improving, getting closer to the weekend. so a look at that coming up in a few

minutes. and we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza right now. the volume is starting to ramp up just a bit, the slowing also wrapping up just a bit on the incline. and also on the decline into san francisco, where i'm tracking this crash still hasn't cleared from fremont or near the off ramp, so we'll track that and see if it's influencing the slow. thanks so much, kari and mike. it is 546 right now. the paris opening ceremonies kick off on friday, and things are certainly heating up. our team is in place and the athletes are arriving for the ceremony and the competition. it's so exciting. yeah all right. today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us with all of that excitement. and kris the olympic torch getting oh so close. oh so close. you can hear those olympic drums right. the doom doom doom the torch made its way to the south of france overnight. and we've talked about when the opening ceremony is happening, but have we mentioned how it's happening? this is all going to play out on barges in the river seine instead of inside a stadium, as we've traditionally seen, and we will see. so many of the sights

that we think of when we hear the word paris. now, 10,500 athletes will compete in all. 592 of them are from the u.s. 123 are from california. the most out of any other state. that includes beach volleyball player april ross, who is one of a dozen olympic moms. caleb dressel, another olympic parent, one of 34 dads. his fellow swimmers, alex and gretchen walsh, are among the six sets of siblings, and nbc bay area family members are there, too. jessica aguirre and her team are now in paris, and it might look like they are sightseeing, but they are actually surveying the different venues featuring the eiffel tower and the arc de triomphe and all of the other landmarks there. now. jess will start her coverage on thursday from paris, the day before the opening ceremony. she and her squad are going to be there through the 16 days of competition, which is a pretty long time to be away from

family. let's call her, you know, scouting out the location. research. yeah. okay. yeah. so? so they're not sightseeing then? not at all. no site surveys focusing specifically on. yeah. the yeah, there are no outdoor cafes involved. nothing to see. i saw a couple baguettes and cheese. nice. yeah. and she's on tiktok now so yeah like follow what she's doing. and of course we want to see from the perspective of someone packing their bags, the flight, all of that stuff that's going to be so much fun. yeah, a lot of fun. it's finally here, guys. we joke about it, but she's going to be working nonstop. it is. yeah it is. she's going to be having a lot of appearances right here. our morning show is her last. the last thing of her day. and the nighttime show is the first thing of her day. so it's just kind of flip flop. it's like an eight hour difference or so like that. so that's okay. it'll be great. jess. thank you. chris. chris. all right. look, as you mentioned there, our team already in paris gearing up for the games. our photographer, in

fact, robbie bassam is working to bring us those incredible shots of the city you've been seeing throughout some of our newscasts already. but he's also bringing some smiles to his daughter hazel, here in the bay area so he packed her little boy for the trip. yeah, it's been giving him a little bit of an adventure by showing some famous landmarks throughout paris. then he sends him back to her. isn't that cool? oh my goodness yes. so then hazel knows bluey's okay. yeah. might come back with an accent. yeah he already has an accent. exactly. even more because by azure now. yes, my daughter is obsessed with bluey too, so i might have to, you know, show her. oh yeah. follow bluey's adventures. by the way, shout out to robbie's wife because she not only has the toddler, but also a new little baby. and so she's making it work because she knows that this is important. yeah, yeah, bring bring home a little bit more than bluey. i don't know what the story. hazel's nose for this. if hazel is aware that bluey was leaving, or if hazel

just discovered that bluey was sleeping. she's like, where is. where is he? yeah adventure, indeed. i think it's all good. i'm sure it's all fine. all right, well, we're tracking what's happening in paris and of course, here in the bay area as well. these temperatures are creeping up again. yes. and today we're going to add in some humidity. so that's going to be a little bit something. yay! look at my hair. it's growing. by the second we are going to have some high humidity for the afternoon. and the heat. but we're starting out with some upper 60s right now. walnut creek, palo alto, san jose. but san francisco is in the mid 50s. of course, as we typically see this is going to be the cool spot. and here's the fog rolling over the golden gate bridge. it is so nice looking, very low and shallow layer of fog. so this is going to be clearing out soon, but at least it's still enough to keep those temperatures down. we're going from upper 50s this morning to seeing highs in the low 70s here today. and we've been talking about the intense

heat for the rest of the bay area so let's head to the south bay. our high temperature in los gatos will reach 99 degrees today. 93 in downtown san jose. and we're looking at for much of the east bay, some triple digits with concord today up to 100 degrees 102 in livermore and 92 in fremont. it'll even be warm in oakland with some low 80s there, and will be in the low 80s for san mateo in half moon bay, 73 degrees. really nice. while san francisco, for the most part, will be in the 70s for today. downtown a little warmer at 78 degrees and 92, in santa rosa and in clear lake, 104 degrees napa today, reaching 97. i mentioned the humidity. so there is the remnants of a tropical system that's pushing some clouds and some higher humidity into the bay area for today. and across much of southern california and the region. now we're going to also

with this, have the potential of some lightning strikes. and it's popping up on our computer models with some isolated thunderstorms over parts of the sierra, but also the little blue dots here indicate some lightning potential. and with that, any lightning strikes could spark new fires. and that will be of high concern for us for today as well as tomorrow as we get another round of that heat and the humidity coming in that could trigger some thunderstorms. and when we call it dry lightning, that's basically a thunderstorm where the rain evaporates before it hits the ground. but the lightning can still strike the ground. and with it being so dry that could start some new fires. so we're watching that our temperatures will begin to cool off by the end of the week. look at friday for san jose in the low 80s, and the weekend is looking fantastic. it's going to be so nice to have a cool down. and our temperatures going from triple digits to low 90s on thursday, and then our warmer spots in the inland valleys will

only be in the low 80s for saturday and sunday. san francisco's keeping it mild with some mid 70s today and tomorrow and then 60s throughout the rest of the forecast. as that fog lingers throughout much of the day. and mike, you're seeing that the slowing shows a bit slowing now heading into san francisco. we're seeing a little more getting over toward that crash. it's still in the grid westbound 80 getting off of the bay bridge at fremont. one of your first exits into the city. now no lanes are reported blocked, but i rechecked all the detail and there are some injuries that they were worried about. and so that may be a factor that might keep some folks on the side of the roadway. the shoulder still reports one chp cruiser there. and so that's probably a distraction as the volumes building. and that's probably adding to the slower drive here. it's not so dramatic that they've turned on the metering lights just yet, but we're watching. we do see some slowing up the incline as well. so that will probably there. it goes a little more slowing live updates. and so that will add to the reason, the reason why they will probably turn those metering lights on any second.

it's actually about 5 or 10 minutes later than i thought it was going to be turned on. we do have a backup showing, so i think maybe the actually the report of those metering lights may be a little delayed because there we go. we see the visible backup that usually indicates the metering lights have actually been on for a few minutes. now. the volume down the east shore freeway doesn't indicate any real need for that, but we see it there and there is that build out of vallejo and typical for highway four coming through contra costa county. 242 shows a little slowing walnut creek interchange is fine. let's look at the rest of the east bay. we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic, but the alameda county shows more for the castro valley. why a build for the nimitz? and down here? there we go. a little build for one on one. right on schedule. live camera out there showed you. i saw some more headlights. it's actually thinning out right now. over the last 3 or 4 minutes, we saw some more traffic flowing and it was getting a little more density through the area and then easing up. that's the typical pattern, and we'll start again in about 45 minutes with the real build. as things build through the six and seven o'clock hours. back to you. good to know. thanks, mike. well,
