farther you get away from that fog, it's going to be hot, and we're still looking at a moderate heat risk for parts of the south bay and morgan hill. we're going to see a high of 9694 in livermore. in concord, and some upper 80s and 90s in parts of the north bay. but a cooler weekend is ahead. we'll take a look at that coming up a little bit later. and mike, you have a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. we're starting to see a little bit of backup. there we go. just barely showing on the area. but that means congestion just past the toll plaza. there's one issue that may slow you down as well. visibility may be in and out as these low clouds cross right on that bridge. so maybe a little fog. fog on the golden gate bridge as well. but the sensors don't show any problems there. it's right here with just the build. highway 37 holding steady. highway four. same thing. just a little more stretching toward concord for the commute. south bay. we had a couple of issues. a fire north 101 at 880, but i believe all lanes have cleared once again and so is that first slowing back to you. all right, mike, thank you. we want to start the

hour out with that breaking news out of butte county. this is where a fast moving fire is triggering hundreds of evacuation orders. now we know it has destroyed at least one home. now, this is video shot from overnight, and you're seeing what is believed to be a propane tank exploding in a fully engulfed home. this is in that area around five miles north of the outer edge of chico. it also appears to be just one of several nearby structures destroyed. now, this is called the park fire. we know it started around 3 p.m. yesterday. as of this morning, it has grown to 45,000 acres, burning east of chico in upper bidwell park. it is also not far from the still rebuilding town of paradise. we know evacuation orders are in effect for communities including richardson springs, forest ranch and cohasset. turning now to decision 2024. and president biden this morning is getting back to the business of

commander in chief following last night's oval office address, the democratic base, meanwhile, is feeling a surge of optimism with his decision to step aside and endorse vice president kamala harris in the race for president today. in the bay's brie jackson live in washington and brie, we know what the reaction has been, you know, amongst our little groups of friends and whatnot. but what's the reaction in washington to that speech? good morning chris. well democrats are largely praising the president's speech last night. president biden says he's setting aside personal ambition and the defense of democracy, and says he's passing the torch to a new generation. president biden, addressing the nation about his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. i believe my record is president, my leadership in the world, my vision for america's future all merited a second term. but nothing, nothing can come in the

way of saving our democracy. the president, highlighting his accomplishments over the past three and a half years and laying out his vision for his remaining time in office. i'm going to call for a supreme court reform, because this is critical to our democracy. the 81 year old democrat says he's passing the torch to the next generation of party leaders. there's also a time and a place for new voices. fresh voices? yes, younger voices in that time and place is now the president is endorsing his 59 year old vice president, kamala harris, to succeed him. when i am president of the united states and when congress passes a law to restore those freedoms, i will sign it into law. former president trump is focusing his attacks on the former prosecutor. this november. the american people are going to tell her, no thanks, kamala. you've done a terrible job
6:07 am
without directly mentioning the former president, president biden says americans must choose between moving the country forward or backward. the power is in your hands. the idea of america lies in your hands. president biden making an appeal to voters and a defining moment in u.s. history. and during his speech, president biden reflected on what he's accomplished during his more than 50 years of working in public service, adding it has been the privilege of his life. kris i'll brie president biden missed something else while he was convalescing, israeli prime minister netanyahu's speech also the meeting on monday. so what's next on that front? so today, the president will meet with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. for months, the biden administration has been working towards a cease fire deal and a way to bring the remaining hostages held by hamas home. that is expected to be the focus of their conversation. netanyahu will also meet with vice

president harris separately and with former president trump on friday. all right, busy day for him. thank you so much. the owner of a popular oakland nightspot asking for your help. this is after burglars targeted his business and all of it caught on video happened a little after 5 a.m. yesterday at the alley. and this is a historic piano bar in the city's grand lake district. well, security cameras show those burglars managing to steal both the cash register and the bar's atm. they also hitting the neighboring restaurant, almond and oak, now the owners of the alley. they believe that the recent crime there has really brought down that area in a way, because it is normally a very popular location for visitors. this is a great area for nightlife, so it's really a shame that these crooks and vandals are just kind of ruining it. now, it's not clear how much money those thieves got away with, but police are asking anyone who may have video of what happened there to give them a call. happening today in the

south bay, a car caravan protest to support a trauma center that could soon be downgraded. maybe even closed. opponents are holding a series of rallies to support regional medical center's trauma center in east san jose. until recently, the plans were to close it entirely on august 12th. but now there is a possibility that it could be just downgraded to a level two or level three trauma center, which critics say would still be a huge hit when it comes to emergency care in that part of the city. the hospital owner, hca, says that patient levels have dropped too low and the impact from that closure will be minimal. today's caravan is scheduled to start at 330 608 for you this morning, and we are no longer counting down the days kris, but we are counting down the hours until the summer olympic games kickoff there in paris, but less than 24 hours now before we get to that. but you know what? here is a live look for you. you see there the beautiful eiffel tower and this is where it is now. early

afternoon. now first lady doctor jill biden, she actually arrived in paris from washington. this is video of her leaving washington last night, heading over to paris. she did arrive there in paris just a short time ago. her delegation, also including a contingent from los angeles, which, of course, is the host city for the next summer games in 2028. now today, a big day for team usa in rugby. yesterday they actually tied with france, later losing to fiji. but if they beat uruguay they actually going to move on to the quarterfinals which also takes place later today. meanwhile at 1130 this morning our time san jose soccer star naomi girma and team usa began their quest for gold in women's soccer. the u.s. they take on zambia and u.s. women's soccer is just one american team with its sights to set on gold. okay, so how about women's polo for you? yeah, yeah. so they're shooting for a fourth straight gold medal, and this year's team has its own hype man slash

sponsor. of course we're talking about flavor. flavor yeah. that's you see him right there. that's flavor flav. yeah bay area team captain maggie steffens actually talking about their new emotional leader. i love it. i think it's been a total blessing. he has really opened up the door and window to a pathway for people to learn. our team in different communities, different people who would have never heard of the sport of water polo. that's really cool. they're right. she said she was going to get him in the water. right. okay, so the women's water polo team, they play the first game saturday against greece. it will air live at 6:30 a.m. on the usa network, peacock. and of course, we'll have coverage of just about everything. all. we have a lot of water polo kids in our circles. oh, do i think they'll be getting up early to watch that? there you go. it's an exciting sport with the games officially set to get underway, we are following the weather conditions that the athletes will face as they go for the gold. yeah. meteorologist kari

hall tracking our very parisian forecast. lapui is the word we'll hear during the opening ceremony. that means rain. yes, we have rain in the forecast for friday in paris, and it looks like it does taper off as we go into the afternoon, into the evening. but another round of showers and saturday's forecast as we head into the end of the weekend into early next week. lots of sunshine and temperatures will be warming up next week. they may be talking a little bit more about how warm it is outside, as our highs head for the low 90s, but that heat will be broken with some thunderstorms moving in for the middle of next week. we're watching all of this and so excited about the opening ceremony. now let's head over to mike with a look at traffic. yeah, maybe you're driving to france. you need a lot of gas. okay. you're not driving into france, but we're looking over here. maybe in san jose. you're going to boast the best of the best prices in the state. it's
6:13 am
363 at great gas on stevens creek. you know, the one by the falafel shop? yeah. the best prices there are in the south bay, in fact, spread out through the south bay. we have the five best prices in the entire state in livermore. that's our next best on the list. 389 at dimond gas and mart on south front road. and in vallejo, it's down to 394 today reported at exxon on springs road, reported by all of you. all of us gasbuddy.com on the roadways. we are looking at a smoother drive. we'll take it to the tri valley had earlier crashes and a traffic break, but everything sorted itself out to the normal morning commute. so 580 is a nice drive. vasco road, the middle number there were up to 23 minutes. that's about standard for that build coming out of contra costa county and into alameda county, and then out of alameda county. the bay bridge, the gradual backup here. no surprises approaching the bay bridge or on the span itself. back to you. how are you going to mention falafel drive in this early in the morning? now i need a banana shake. i'm hungry now. i need a banana shake. all right, it's 613 for you this morning. and is the revenge travel boom coming to an end?
6:14 am
well, airlines seem to think so. next here on today in the bay. we're going to have the new plans to fill empty seats as summer travel slows. and how you could actually reap the rewards. plus it's addictive. it's like if you start collecting anythin, whatever it is, this is the same thing. oh, he's got a point. forget the goal for some olympic spectators, it's all about the pins we're breaking down the trend that continues at this olympics. and don't forget, our team is in paris covering all of the action we'll have live coverage tomorrow morning ahead of the opening ceremony, but for more coverage, be sure to follow jessica aguirre on social media. we'll be right back
6:15 am
6:17 am
cool down, but here it's still going to be hot today. we're in the upper 90s through the afternoon, and we're not dealing with triple digits, but we'll be very close and some real relief comes to this area going into the weekend. so we'll talk about what's in store for all of our microclimates coming up in a few minutes. and right here, fremont looks great for the nimitz southbound. those headlights you see heading from left to right down to the south bay without delays. there are some build up spots there closer to hayward. you expect that? we'll check out what's going on farther east.
6:18 am
coming up. thanks, mike. futures mostly flat. about 15 minutes before the open, on the heels of new economic data showing the gross domestic product blew past expectations in the second quarter, the economy grew at 2.8% versus the 2% forecast yesterday. the nasdaq and s&p 500, though, each sustained their biggest losses since 2022, due in part to poor results from alphabet and tesla. the s&p saw its first decline of more than 2% since december. of that year. chipotle says it is trying to avoid having to resort to smaller portions and price increases this year. the burrito chain's second quarter results are beating analysts estimates, thanks in part to efforts to speed up service. chipotle says people across all income levels are buying burritos and other items, and current value deals from rivals haven't really had much of an impact there. the company, however, still dealing
6:19 am
with higher costs for avocados and dairy products. i think we are to all of us. well, you know, airlines, they are bracing for the end of the post pandemic revenge travel boom, cutting ticket prices to fill a surplus of seats. here's a live look this morning over at sfo. now you know passengers. you may remember they were desperate to travel pretty much anywhere. yeah we were. and airlines, they suffered from a shortage of those planes following the pandemic. while the cracks have largely come to with shortened routes to the us as well as europe and in economy class, more expensive seats and business and first class not so much impacted. well, the return to the olympics or really the return of the olympics for all of us who aren't going, it means a lot of things to a lot of people, right? and for the olympic pin collector, it means the return to nirvana. oh yeah. the pin craze first took root at the 1984 olympics in los angeles, and since then it's turned into a huge phenomenon. hundreds of collectors will be trading pins, some of them
6:20 am
arriving with suitcases full of vintage pins. 86 year old ross baxter has pins from 14 olympics, and he first started collecting when he was a volunteer in calgary back in 1988. he says he is just hooked. he also met a ton of friends along the way, many of whom he expects to see again in paris. because you go to another country, you meet a lot of nice people and that's that's what makes it, you know, i could collect coins and stuff like that, but it would be the fun. you just go into a store? yeah, some pins have don't have a lot of value other than sentimental value, but they are useful as kind of swaps and trades to make friends. but others are up to worth a worth up to 50 bucks. the rare ones can sell in the thousands on ebay as the competition gets underway. we are getting behind the scenes looks at the sleeping conditions for all of the athletes going for gold, the beds in the olympic village are once again made out of cardboard. they made
6:21 am
their debut back in 2021. organizers say the beds were made to make the games more environmentally friendly, but olympians are testing out the durability and the strength. they're posting videos on. social don't get hurt before your event, man, i know, right? that makes me so nervous. yeah, i posted all of that doing exercises and all kinds of antics there. i mean, they have a pad and apparently there's a soft side and a hard side, but even the soft side is kind of hard is what one of the, i think water polo players from australia was saying, oh, i mean cardboard. i mean, look, we used to sit on cardboard boxes and stuff when we were in college, okay? i used to sit on cardboard boxes when i was shopping on one, and i used to be able to sit cross-legged when i was younger. i get cramps, no more crisscross applesauce. i just remember the average age of most of those olympians in their early 20s. so true. yeah, we didn't see that 59 year old equestrian doing that. no. yeah, yeah. all right. well, we've been watching, you know, the
6:22 am
forecast for paris and here at home we are going to see the humidity dropping. so that's some good news for us as well as some lower temperatures coming our way as we take a live look outside in san jose. we're heading out on our thursday morning with some sunshine and some warm temperatures. it's in the upper 60s right now. look at all the fog. this is our low visibility we have in san francisco and our camera misting and drizzling. and we're going to see a lot more of that fog over the next few days. and keeping those temperatures cool. we're in the upper 50s right now, and it's 62 in palo alto in concord, livermore, dublin. you're stepping out the door to 67 degrees and 50s in the north bay. definitely cooler in santa rosa. this morning, but it's going to also be a cooler day with a high of 87 as opposed to the 90s we've had recently in moraga. expect a high of 86 degrees and some upper 80s as well. for san jose, the peninsula in the low 70s, san mateo today, 73 degrees. let's take it to tomorrow, where we're
6:23 am
looking at mostly 60s here and 70s as you cross the band to hayward, 71 degrees livermore. that was just dealing with triple digits. we'll have to see highs in the low 80s. we are welcoming this weather and it gets even lower for saturday. as you're out and about, we can enjoy the santa clara county fair and all of the events going on with some cooler temperature. take a look at walnut creek, seeing those highs going from mid 90s to seeing some 70s for friday and saturday and then sunday. it's only slightly warmer. it's going to take a while, but we'll eventually step our way back up towards some hotter temperatures next weekend. so just that heads up that this weekend is going to be much cooler than what we'll see ahead. and looking at our 7-day forecast for the inland areas, lots of sunshine, early clouds, overnight temperatures dropping. but we won't see that sunshine as much in san francisco. and mike, you're seeing that typical build up out of the east bay
6:24 am
over here, the richmond bridge now seeing a lot more folks approaching the toll plaza, a little slowing ahead across the biggest change over here in berkeley and the berkeley curve. as far as volume goes. and we're looking at the drive into oakland at the east bay. no major problems until you get to the san mateo bridge, which shows a little more traffic back to you. thank you. mike. well celebrating the landmark law banning discrimination against people with disabilities ahead this morning on today in the bay, we're going to hear from one bay area woman whose life forever changed that day. and we're also going to talk about the struggle. she says she is still facing. stick around. we'lbel

disabilities act. the landmark law banned discrimination against people with disabilities, and it changed the lives of people like nikki brown, booker of oakland. she has been confined to a wheelchair since childhood because of rheumatoid arthritis. she says the ada opened her world to unemployment. it gave her equal physical access to public buildings, allowing her to go to college and hold a number of jobs. but, she says, also, our country has a long way to go. as you can see on the graphic here on your screen, the u.s. government finds that only about 1 in 10 people with a disability were employed last year, that it compares to 65% of people without disabilities. the 2023 unemployment rate for people with disabilities was just over 7%, more than double
6:28 am
the national rate. i still think that people see people with disabilities as like, unable to care for themselves, unable to, do things, to work, to be like a really real contributor to, to society. and that's just simply not true. nikki brown booker works for the borealis philanthropy, which is a group that helps connect grant dollars with organizations helping people with disabilities. you can learn more at borealis philanthropy.org. well, we've got a lot more ahead for you at 630, including that breaking news that wildfire exploding in size overnight in butte county, the intense video showing homes going up in flames, and the evacuations underway as people work to gain containment at this hour
6:30 am
6:31 am
fierce flames tearing through butte county. the damage already adding up and the thousands under evacuation, plus securing a major endorsement. a live report on the big nod. one candidate is getting in the race for san francisco mayor. i feel like i'm prepared and ready to race. obviously, hopefully go win a gold medal and enjoy the entire experience of being an olympic athlete. so very excited
6:32 am
to be here. the bay meets paris as our top athletes prepare to play for gold. our bob redell breaking down. the competition is already underway and the local watch party happening today. this is today in the bay. thanks so much for joining us on this thursday morning i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off and i'm marcus washington. want to get right to that breaking news for you this morning that fast moving wildfire triggering hundreds of evacuation orders over in butte county overnight. it started yesterday just after 3 p.m. east of chico and upper bidwell park. we know that fire has destroyed multiple homes. some of the video here showing what is believed to be a propane tank exploding in this fully engulfed home. as of this morning, those flames have taken over 45,000 acres. governor gavin newsom saying that crews from across the state will be there to on their way to help out. let's get right to meteorologist kari hall and kari. what are the conditions
6:33 am
for the firefighters? what are the conditions for the fire? it's still going to be hot. and that's what they've been dealing with. some of the crews trying to contain these fires, the smoke and all of that blowing away from the bay area. as we get a bit of a cool down and we're starting out our morning in the upper 50s near the coast. and martinez, it's in the low 60s and we're in the mid 60s. excuse me, as you make your way farther over toward the inland east bay, we're going to see highs still reaching into the 90s for this afternoon, up to 94 in concord, as well as livermor, upper 90s for clear lake and ukiah. but we are seeing some spots at least closer to the influence of that ocean breeze getting a few degrees lower for today. mike, you're starting with that south bay commute. i just saw these sensors change to yellow. the building now we expected this about now about ten minutes from now we see a lot more slowing for 101. i don't think it's going to be held off. but there is an issue for south county coming into
6:34 am
morgan hill where we see more slowing at done. typically around ten and done. we now see it approaching san martin avenue. there's a motorcycle crash and the driver was pulled to the shoulder by a good samaritan there. it sounds like everything's going to continue to improve, but they still have two lanes blocked. so that will hold folks up coming into the south bay back there in san martin, the rest of the bay shows a pretty smooth drive. typical slowing for the east bay spots, and we're looking at three routes into walnut creek. of course, kirker pass is the most slowing. it's a major surface street. back over to you. all right, mike, thank you. well, now to decision 2024 and the race for mayor in san francisco. the city's democratic leadership announcing an endorsement today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live there this morning, ginger san francisco has ranked choice voting, but committee members made their choice very clear. that's right, chris and marcus, the 32 member central committee, could have ranked the candidates, but they did not choose to do that. that is what voters will do in november. the
6:35 am
committee choosing to endorse one sole candidate, the incumbent mayor of san francisco, london breed, and the endorsement is a win for breed, who faces other high profile candidates, many of whom are challenging her over the current state of the city and its issue, including sheltering the unhoused, the increasing office vacancies across the city, and the opioid crisis. breed has announced her plans to address the city's biggest issues, including her own vision to revitalize downtown, which has been plagued with an exodus of commercial business. that area is responsible for 70% of the city's jobs. now, mayor breed sat down recently to discuss this with our own marcus washington, as well as other issues in san francisco. here she is on why it is crucial for the city to bounce back. it's also about the bay area and people choosing san francisco as a destination for weekend activities. or make it a weekend in san francisco. go to pier 39. go to the zoo. like this is really about our economic

recovery as well. promising to solve homelessness. now. we also recently spoke with san francisco supervisor aaron peskin on our streaming show. he is also running for mayor, along with former san francisco mayor mark farrell. they both garnered some votes from the democratic party in the initial rounds of last night's committee hearing. here is supervisor peskin speaking on finding solutions to the city's unhoused. any candidate promising to solve homelessness in six months using sweeps just frankly, isn't being straightforward and honest. sweeps don't actually solve the underlying problems of homelessness. now, conversations around a vision for san francisco will continue today. later on our 8 a.m. streaming show, we will be joined by former mayor mark farrell. tomorrow will be also joined by daniel lurie. and on monday, supervisor ahsha safai will join us on that streaming show. you can watch on roku, amazon tv and
6:37 am
other platforms. now. mayor breed will hold a press conference later this morning at alamo square park that will take place at 11. we expect that to be a celebratory occasion for that endorsement coming yesterday in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay, a big move in the race there. ginger thank you. let's take a live look for you this morning over at the white house. this is where happening today, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is scheduled to meet with president biden. the prime minister also expected to speak with vice president kamala harris in a separate meeting. she did not attend his address yesterday to congress. now on the address on capitol hill, it sparked protests across the u.s, thousands taking part in washington, where things got tense at times as police used pepper spray to disperse that crowd. streets there, surrounded the capitol were blocked for hours. the protesters, also gathering in san francisco. this is video from nbc bay area sky ranger showing heavy police barricades outside the israeli

consulate. that's where activists earlier in the day blocked the access to the building. those activists cleared that area well before noon. a new this morning. some major changes are in the works for southwest airlines. for starters, it's going to getaway or want to get away. well, they're trying to get away from that. the decades old practice of open seating. starting next year, the airline plans to launch flights with extra legroom. this follows mounting pressure from investors to increase revenue. the airline also plans to start offering overnight flights, the first of which is forecast to take off next valentine's day. the latest moves are considered the biggest changes to the southwest business model in its 53 years of flying. well, today, state supreme court justices are expected to announce a ruling in the battle over proposition 22. that's the measure where voters approved back in 2020. defining gig economy workers as independent contractors. rideshare and delivery companies
6:39 am
supported that measure, which was a response to the supreme court ruling requiring companies to classify gig workers as regular employees. since then, drivers and delivery workers have continued to challenge its consistency and constitutionality. when arguments were presented earlier this year, the court seemed poised to uphold that measure. well, get ready for the return of a south bay summer favorite, the santa clara county fair, which opens today. it is actually the fair's 80th anniversary, and so it will celebrate 80 years of south bay innovation, from farming to technology. the fair runs over two weekends this weekend and next weekend from thursday through sunday at the fairgrounds in san jose. the doors open at three. and by the way, today only children under 12 are free. good thing it's today because the last couple of days have been a little bit warmer. so some of those other fairs had it rough. they did. and it's still going to be in the upper 80s in san jose. so
6:40 am
it's still going to be hot during the middle of the afternoon. but once that breeze kicks up around 5 to 6:00, it will feel very comfortable with a high of 89 degrees. you want to make sure that if you are out there at that time, you're drinking lots of water. maybe find some of those spots in the shade tomorrow is going to be much nicer with the drop in temperatures, and saturday is the best day to check out the fair. the high temperature will only reach 75 degrees, and we also have cool weather in san francisco with the marathon happening this weekend drawing in 31,000 competitors here, and we're going to see temperatures only in the 50s headed for the low 60s. so great competition weather for this weekend. we also have a lot of events going on, including the fiesta del mariachi happening in on saturday. and if you're hitting the road and going to palisades, well, we've had some very warm weather in tahoe as well, but it will be cooling down with highs going from upper 70s for tomorrow's high temperature to low 70s for saturday. we'll talk
6:41 am
more about our cooldown as well. but mike, you were watching the cars line up. yeah. and they're doing it. they're doing a great job as is typical for the bay bridge. but look, it's just barely getting to the end of the parking lot and just off the 880 overcrossing. so it's a gradual but pretty gradual build. they're not slow, we should say. i mean, there's the bill through richmond and berkeley, but it's not bad. richmond shows some more slowing. so to our typical other spots through contra costa county out of contra costa county, vasco road not even a half hour just yet. so that's a great drive there. and around the bay. back to you. thank you. mike 640 this morning, a chaotic scene turns one youth basketball game upside down happened after one boy stepped on another's head. well, now his family is demanding answers ahead. this morning on today in the bay, we're going to look at the new response from the team whose player clearly crossed the line. plus, what may be the boat of the future. making a whole lot of waves though not sound waves.

control at a bay area basketball game. we're going to show you some video. it's disturbing, but we did pause it right before the worst part of it. it seems to show one player stomping on the head of an opponent. now, it happened sunday during a youth travel ball game at the college of alameda. a team from elk grove was playing in east bay based team called peyton's place, and the incident happened after one of the elk grove players fell to the floor. the ref then restrained the other player after that moment and walked him off the court. the attorney for the elk grove family says this is what the child looked like, and he suffered a concussion. we're insisting on corrective measures. we're insisting on the safety of our children to be reevaluated. so these situations like this don't happen again. while no charges were filed, but police are believed to still be investigating the peyton's place coaching staff says the player, who was involved in that is no

longer with the team and is, quote, getting help. 645 right now and your next trip on the water, well, maybe a little quieter. that's because there's a new type of boat making some waves in the industry. our scott mcgrew takes a look at that technology and the possible political boys that may be hindering its commercial success. good morning. very happy thursday to you. i got a chance to check out a new sort of boat, an electric boat made by a company called arc, created by former tesla and spacex engineers, among others. the most remarkable thing about it is how quiet it is. just the wind and the sound of people having fun. i spoke with arcs ceo mitch lee. it is, an incredible experience. when you go put that throttle down and you could still hold a conversation at 25 miles an hour, much less five miles an hour. that's such a novel experience for being out on a boat where you're typically essentially sitting on top of
6:47 am
your gas engine that's creating this huge roar and drowning out any sort of conversation. well that's kind of the fun thing about boating, too, is you're out on the lake, you're in nature, there's a nice breeze, and you haven't got a, you know, a diesel engine that's stinking up the place. it's a very social activity. and electric makes so much sense for so many different reasons. but yes, conversation and your ability to actually have fun with your friends while you're out there now, just because something's better doesn't mean people will necessarily buy it. electric motorcycles, for instance, make sense? they're quick, they're silent. they use no gas. but electric motorcycles have not captured much market share, and there's been pushback against the electric powered industry. donald trump recently condemned the entire idea of an electric boat. let me. i gotta look at my notes here because i want to make sure i get this right. president trump kind of went on this strange riff about electric boats, saying they only run for

ten minutes, and if you sink, you get electrocuted or eaten by a shark. i assume most of that is not accurate. what i'd say is, i would love to invite anyone out onto our boat to experience it, and you get a full day of usage. that is something that we really took as a design requirement at kind of a foundational level. when we started this, you said you'd invite anybody on your boat and you've had some celebrities invest in your some venture capitalists, but also some celebrities invest in your boat. yeah, i think there's a lot of enthusiasm about what we're doing. it's, you know, boating is a lifestyle. and what we're doing is making that lifestyle so much more enjoyable for everyone that likes being out on the water and allow people to enjoy that or enable people to enjoy that water responsibly and along the way that has attracted the enthusiasm of, yes, some celebrities and, a lot of high powered investors as well. all right. well, mitch lee, i wish

you luck with your your boat fair winds following season. thanks for being with us. this. absolutely. thanks for having me. you bet. back to you. thanks, scott. well, we are counting down to tomorrow's opening ceremony for the summer olympic games in paris. i'll give you a live look this morning at the city of lights. are bailey. yes, that's the eiffel tower. there and you know what a beautiful start to our day. yeah, well, the games really kick into gear on saturday. some competition is already underway. today in the bay bob redell live this morning at santana row in san jose. bob nbc bay area hosting a big watch party for women's soccer, which is a favorite in the bay area correct. they kick off with their first match at 1130 this morning. we're going to do a watch party starting at 11 here at santana row behind me. so if you want to show your support for team usa, nbc bay area, telemundo 48 and bay fc, they'll be kicking off the 2024 paris olympics here at santana row. again between 11 and 3, you see

it on your screen to cheer on the us women's soccer team as they face zambia in their first match. there's also qualifying rounds and other sports today, including men's rugby, handball and archery, and we'll throw this up on your screen. as you can see, the first world record of the paris olympics was just set by lim shihong, in archery with a score of seven 694. she, of course, being from south korea. congratulations to her. two barre athletes were center stage during men's rugby yesterday. stephen tomassini from sonoma and 26 year old nima fualaau, from hayward, both representing the bay area team, came away. team usa came away with a draw against france, but they lost to fiji. they're in third place in pool c going into session two of the rugby sevens competition. they have another game today, us men's soccer. they lost their match yesterday to france 0 to 3, switching sports. here's steph curry who's now in paris ready to represent

team usa in basketball i'm excited. it's my first opportunity. be playing with the guys on the men's national team has been awesome so far. i know the energy in the city is pretty electric right now and it's only going to continue to get better. so i'm excited to experience this and obviously, hopefully go win a gold medal, and enjoy the entire experience of being an olympic athlete. so very excited to be here. as you can see in this video, the olympic torch relay is making its way through france on its way to paris to light the olympic cauldron during tomorrow's opening ceremonies. the 2024 paris olympics will be held from july 26th through august 11th, while the paralympics will run from august 28th through september 8th. another reminder about that watch party we are hosting here at santana road, a route on women's soccer. at 8 a.m. i'll have a live interview with two time olympic gold medalist soccer star brandi chastain and
6:52 am
11 a.m. brandi will be joined by ali wagner, another two time gold medalist soccer star. both women, obviously from here in the bay area reporting live here at santana row in san jose, bob redell, today in the bay. thank you so much, bob. it's always fun to watch all together. yeah, i mean, it's fun to watch at home. the ones that you really don't want to be like, don't bother me. but then the other ones like, yeah, just to be in the midst of it all. yeah. brandi's big friend of today in the bay love to sit with her, watch the team play. obviously that's exciting. yeah, for sure, for sure. and we have, you know, bay area talent represented there too. so that's happening at watch party is happening. there's another one on friday. the friday one looks like it's going to be the weather is going to be right. so the weather will be cooler tomorrow. today it's still warm during the middle of the day. so as you're cheering getting excited, you may start to sweat a little bit. it's going to be heating up in the valleys and walnut creek is going to be another one of those hot spots heading back to the 90s. but we have fog over san francisco, and that's providing
6:53 am
some relief to the peninsula and parts of the inner bay. this fog will linger a lot longer today, and even more so as we get these cooler temperatures coming in and the wind coming off of the ocean. as we get that shift in the wind direction, that helps us out. but today in the valleys, we're still going to see some warm weather. upper 80s for san jose, mid 90s for los gatos and 96 degrees today in morgan hill. but instead of seeing all of these triple digits in the east bay, it's in the 90s today. still headed very close in antioch this afternoon with a high of 98 degrees, but compare that to the 77 we'll see in oakland and some low 70s for san mateo, mid 60s for half moon bay, daly city, 63 and 65. in the ingleside district. and for the north bay. we're in the upper 70s in mill valley, sonoma 90 and 99, in clear lake today. but near the coast, it's very nice and comfortable with 60s and low 70s. let's check out santa rosa and the changes over the next few days. going from
6:54 am
upper 80s today to mid 70s for the weekend, it seems like it's been a long time since we've had weather like that, and it will gradually start to get a little bit warmer, more seasonable for next week, and then eventually that heat will return. but just looking at this, you can tell that the cool weather we'll see this weekend will be changing for next weekend. so get in the plans and the outdoor activitie. while we do have the cooler temperatures, especially in our mornings dipping down to the mid 50s. highs in the 80s. and in san francisco it will be in the 60s all throughout the weekend, and not a whole lot of sunshine. mike, you are seeing some slowing in the south bay. yeah, pretty typical pattern. maybe a couple of minutes earlier than we see this much on highway 87. so i'm watching it, but no incidents reported most of the slowing up toward curtner. we're looking over here for the build for 101 as well. a little extra slowing coming off capitol expressway. so we're just watching those general trends southbound stretching all the way out of san leandro down toward union city. typical gradual brake tapping because

more volume exists past both the san mateo and dumbarton bridge and across the san mateo bridge, and easy drive continues back to you. thank you mike. happening now in north bay wine conglomerate is declaring bankruptcy just four years after going public. vintage wine estates is based in santa rosa and owns more than 30 wine brands, many in wine country, including kunde layer cake and clo pagus. the company has also been struggling for months. vintage also announced plans to, delist from the stock marke
