ability to sing on social media. she says, quote, every time i return to paris, i remember there's so much beauty and joy still to experience in the world. i love paris and i am happy to be back and don't forget, the opening ceremony is today and you can watch it right here on nbc. bay area's going to begin for you. this morning at 1030. or you can watch the encore performance in prime time at 730 tonight. it is all right here on nbc bay area. your home for everything. olympics. breaking right now at 6:00. crews on high alert. a large fire only growing in size near chico. and closer to home, firefighters now have the upper hand on a fire near the altamont pass. we have the latest on the firefight. the evacuations, the
6:01 am
firefighting conditions and the impact plus, breaking overnight, vice president kamala harris scores a major endorsement the way it could help spare her campaign as former president donald trump reveals more about a possible debate. and as a ceremony in the in paris is about to kick off the olympics, a major rail network is sabotage affecting the commute outside the city. getting into paris, our team is live in paris with brand new developments and the excitement surrounding our bay area athletes as well. this is today in the bay. and good morning to you. on this friday. thanks so much for making us a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for laura garcia. we have a lot of news to get to. but first, the countdown is just about over in just a few hours. the 2024 paris olympics opening ceremony will thrill fans around
6:02 am
the world. but ahead of what should be a magnificent event, we're also following breaking news out of france, a series of coordinated attacks providing major disruptions to high speed rail routes connecting to paris. and we just learned who authorities believe is responsible. today in the bay's jessica aguirre live for us this morning near the arc de triomphe and jessica, i know this is definitely not the start of the olympics. organizers nor fans wanted to see. no, not at all. french authorities went to great lengths to make sure nothing would mar these opening day ceremonies, but something has. and yet the olympic committee says that the opening ceremony and the start of the games will go on as planned. i want to show you where i am. i'm at the actually at the arc de triomphe, which is about a mile and a half away from the perimeter around trocadero and the eiffel tower and the seine river, where the parade of athletes will be taking place. and yet, where i'm standing here, you can't even walk in the middle of the
6:03 am
street. there is no problem. what? so all now, all this heightened security coming as what the french transport minister is calling a coordinated attack on that french national railway system that you talked about several high speed rail lines, the victim of arson and now we are learning that extreme leftist groups are likely responsible for this sabotage, this has impacted travel tremendously. about a million people were expected to come in and out of paris. so it's causing a lot of chaos, stranding passengers at at the stations. so the olympic committee says the thing, the ceremony will go on. and if i can take you back on camera, i can show you here, here. even though we're outside that zone, that perimeter, there are hundreds of police officers around us. and this lane where i met usually is nonstop cars. one of the busiest places in france. and yet we have police and barricades all around us. let's talk about that opening ceremony, which is happening right now about this time. right now, most of the people that are going to be attending the ceremony are already heading toward that limited, really
6:04 am
impacted zone. we're talking about dignitaries, heads of state and some 300,000 spectators. they're there to watch the parade of nations as they go down. and what's going to be a historic and first of its kind opening ceremony with the athletes going down the seine river, everyone watching it today, it will be historic for first, for sure. floating celebration. i'll show you. the route will depart from the notre dame cathedral and then it will sail past city landmarks something like the louvre, the notre dame, and then they'll get to the foot of the eiffel tower, which is adorned with those olympic rings. and that's where it will end. the athletes will descend and they'll walk down the trocadero, and they will light the olympic flame. let's show you how much this takes to put together. we're talking 10,000 plus athletes. 206 countries, 92 athletes, 300 spectators on the four mile
6:05 am
road, a thousand cameras, 3.5 hours of programing and a billion, a billion viewers. that is set to start in just a short time. and they want to make sure that nothing else happens tomorrow. what the french say will be a magnifique, one of a kind ceremony. we're going to continue to monitor situation from here again. arc de triomphe, outside that perimeter. back to you. it's going to be a spectacular opening ceremony. i can imagine one like no other. and glad you're safe, jess. as jess said, the day is finally here. opening ceremony is at 1030 this morning. you can watch it all morning long, or you can watch an encore performance in prime time at 730 tonight, all here on nbc bay area, your home for everything olympics. well, breaking back here at home. vice president kamala harris whirlwind week continues as she scores a major endorsement. her campaign just releasing this video showing her getting backing from both barack and
6:06 am
michelle obama. we called to say michelle, and i couldn't be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the oval office. oh my goodness, michelle, barack, this means so much to me. i am looking forward to doing this with the two of you. doug and i both now, three sources telling nbc news aides to obama and harris have discussed them appearing together on the campaign trail at some point. meantime, harris continues to say she welcomes an on stage showdown against donald trump, accusing him of backpedaling from his previous commitment to debate. trump's campaign said that debate details shouldn't be or couldn't be finalized until democrats formally decided on their nominee. back here at home, we are following breaking news in the east bay. a brush fire along 580 at the altamont pass, now fully contained. as we look live at the scene this morning, you can see there is still smoke coming off of it. but this is
6:07 am
what it looked like at the height of the fire. it started a little before 10:00 last night. cal fire crews tell us that it scorched 400 acres, but now is extinguished. so far, no reports of damage, but crews plan to be out there throughout the day watching for hot spots. also breaking in butte county, a long night for firefighters battling that out-of-control what is called the park fire, burning near chico. as of early this morning, cal fire saying that that fire has already burned more than 160,000 acres and there's no exact count yet just on the number of homes destroyed. butte county sheriff urging everyone to follow all of those evacuation orders. this county has seen time and time again where people have waited too long and they have lost their lives. the fire blows over. i can't make any promise or guarantee that we can get up there to save your life. the fire is also burning near the town of paradise. you may remember that is a town devastated by wildfire back in 2018. paradise right now is
6:08 am
under evacuation warning and there's already a suspect in custody tied to this fire. he's identified as 42 year old ronnie dean stout. authorities say that a witness saw him acting strangely at that scene of a car fire. in the process of spreading the flames, a meteorologist, kari hall, is here and tracking conditions. firefighters are facing. and that fire is so big, it's creating kind of its own weather. yes, it has really exploded and it's created a lot of plumes of smoke, too. that's a damaging our atmosphere as we take a look at the conditions, those firefighters are facing 72 already to start out the morning, the humidity is very low and we're still getting some gusty winds and that has caused that fire to spread. 164,000 acres and is only 3% contained. as we're getting those high winds. we've had such hot and dry weather recently, and so
6:09 am
that just created more fuel. and so look at our near surface smoke model as we go throughout today, the plumes of smoke coming off of the park fire is just off the charts, and a lot of it blowing off towards the east, away from the bay area. but we've seen some of the fires a little bit closer to home. still bring some smoke in and we're looking at a hazy sky this morning as we take a live look outside in dublin. temperatures will be dropping today when we compare our high temperatures. we're expecting for this afternoon compared to just a few days ago. we're going from livermore's high of 106 to today, a high of 86. a lot of these temperatures about 20 degrees cooler than it was just a few days ago. and it will be nice to get that relief, which continues into the weekend. so we'll be tracking more of that. we'll talk about the rest of the weekend forecast. mike's been giving you some places to fill up for less. yeah. and the great thing is that a number of the best in the state are right here, actually in the south bay, san jose still holds the lead in
6:10 am
the state with 363, will go a couple cents higher so we can call out santa clara with 365. we're talking platinum gas on washington street next. best on the list here is livermore 387 at dimond gas and mart on south front road. that's the best for alameda county. and then the north bay getaway is marin county's low. it's now 389 in larkspur marin gas on magnolia avenue. thank you for sharing those prices with all of us on gasbuddy.com. we like to see those trends there on the roadways. the trend is it's friday, so we have a lighter flow of traffic on those roadways. we see mostly green speed sensors as we're looking around the bay. i'll take you out to the area that was completely closed. bob redell out there talking about overnight. altamont pass fire. altamont pass road, he says, has reopened. and so that's great news. those speed sensors are still adjusting. but do note that you can use altamont pass road. so 580 will be taking less of that shift. and the area it's a nice light drive. anyway, this morning vasco road you saw that. really a nice drive. only 18 minutes out of contra costa
6:11 am
county down to 580 where again that travel time from grant line over toward the dublin interchange, now under a half hour still back to you. all right. thanks, mike. i'll breathe deep and stay calm as you hit the roads this morning. and maybe you can help us improve our image. a new poll ranked states with the most road rage. we're going to show you where california ranked. and if you are of a certain age, you remember the where's the beef commercials, which these days some people say should be about chipotle. let's go out to the futures this morning. got good news about inflation. look at that. all tha

6:22 am
little bit warmer in palo alto at 82 and in san francisco mid to upper 60s today, breezy wind. and we're also looking at a lot of sunshine in the north bay with temperatures ranging from low 60s in bodega bay to 96, a ukiah and santa rosa feeling cooler air today with a high of 82. as we take a look at san jose, it's going to be much cooler tomorrow, so we're going from mid 80s to only mid seconds for tomorrow afternoon, and then a slight boost in the temperatures, but still cooler than what we typically see in july. and more seasonable weather going into next week as we begin to head closer to august. so we're going to see our temperatures in the upper 80s going into next week. after a nice, cool weekend. will really feel it during the overnight hours with lows in the mid 50s. while san francisco will continue to see 60s throughout the forecast. more fog rolling in after today. and mike, you're seeing a pretty smooth friday light commute. it is. it's very nice here. kris

did talk about though, the road rage ranking over here. very high for the bay bridge now because you lose half the lanes basically as you squeeze onto the span itself. but everything seems calm right now as folks are on the deck. that's great news for the bay bridge. and you saw how light it is. actually, there's a little more slowing as you approach the richmond bridge and coming out of vallejo. standard pattern for highway 37. no major issues in the altamont pass as far as traffic goes. bob continues to talk about that altamont pass fire, but the major roadways are open and the south bay very light. friday slowing. look at that. almost no break. tapping back to you. thank you. mike 622 this morning, next here on today in the bay nbc bay area responds tonight you can kick off the 2024 olympics rubbing elbows with local olympians. i'm chris chmura i'll show you where and when next

6:32 am
hillside. no structures were involved and no one was hurt, thankfully. so we are staying on top of that. breaking news. also breaking news in butte county, where the massive wildfire there is now at more than 164,000 acres, with virtually no containment. that means growing on all sides. it is still not clear how many homes have been destroyed, though we've seen some of them in the video. it started a little more than 37 hours ago in the outskirts of chico. authorities do say they have a man under arrest who they believe started the fire when he pushed a burning car down a ravine. it is still not clear what charges he may face. meteorologist kari hall, of course, been tracking the conditions for us and what firefighters can expect now. the area has been dry and just warm for so long, and it's just fueling that fire. i think the prolonged heat waves that we've had has dried out the vegetation even more. and so if you have someone pushing a burning car or even just a regular car fire, you know those things can set a
6:33 am
hillside on fire and it just gets out of control. and this fire, once again, it's over. 164,000 acres. just even hard to comprehend. and they're only at 3% containment. part of that may be due in part because of the how dry the fuels are and the weather conditions they've been facing, with some gusty winds. and in the overnight hours, when usually the humidity comes up enough to slow the spread of the fire, it is still critically dry in those areas, and hopefully we do see some better weather conditions throughout the weekend. a lot of the smoke from this fire just going off the charts. we don't even have enough color contours here to show how much of the plumes of smoke is being pushed into the atmosphere, but a lot of that is moving off towards the east, over toward nevada, and is causing some very unhealthy air quality. we are still in the clear today as we're waking up to a hazy sky and getting ready for a cooler day here in dublin.
6:34 am
we'll be in the 70s throughout the afternoon, may briefly touch 80 degrees, but that's about it and the wind will be coming in today off of the ocean, increasing the humidity, making it feel better, and it gets even cooler for tomorrow. so i'll be tracking all of that and showing you the full microclimate forecast that's coming up in a few minutes. all right. looking forward to it. thanks, gary. well, the countdown is just about over and few hours. the 2024 paris olympic opening ceremony will thrill fans everywhere. we're talking about a billion people watching, but you know what? we're following some breaking news also this morning in france, where their summer games are getting off to a really shaky start for people still trying to get to paris. a series of coordinated attacks providing major disruption to high speed rail routes connecting to paris. in fact, we are now learning that some of the olympic athletes on their way to the opening ceremony will now miss the event because they just can't get there. the railway company is calling it an
6:35 am
attack meant to paralyze the network, and right now there's no claim of responsibility and no word of a possible suspect. now, as for that opening ceremony, nbc's keir simmons is in paris with a look at what we can expect from alongside the seine river, where they are preparing for this historic opening ceremony. let me just show you in the distance there that is pont diana. that bridge runs over to the trocadero, where the today show and nbc sports sets are, where we will be broadcasting this incredible opening ceremony next door to it you can see the eiffel tower overlooking the river. this is where that opening ceremony will come to a close. what a view this will be as team usa come by, you can see there are screens all on the river and if we just spin around here a little bit. look at that. there. those bleachers, their seats are empty right now. folks are beginning to arrive. but. but what a position that would be. honestly, all along the river people are going to get a fantastic view as 3000 artists

and entertainers and dancers perform some of this. we don't know. it's under wraps. what exactly there's going to be. there's the talk perhaps of celine dion appearing. i think we're going to get some surprises and meanwhile on the today show, we've been looking at the love affair between paris and america, going back to the founding fathers, the war of independence into the 1920s, the american artists who lived here like ernest hemingway and then more recently, there's a show, emily in paris. i think you may have heard of it guys, once or twice. hey, and not only is kira there, but our own jessica aguirre is in paris. she's actually going to join us with the final live report ahead for you coming up at 655 for an update on all the developing train situation happening over there in paris right now. all right. well, the olympics may be happening thousands of miles away, but thousands of athletes also descending on san francisco this weekend for the san francisco marathon today in the

mission street. the 26 mile run will wrap around the north shoreline, making its way through fisherman's wharf to the presidio, across the golden gate bridge before heading through the richmond district. also through golden gate park and out onto haight street. it will then cross mission and potrero and then make its way back to the embarcadero. already tired just talking about the streets where it will pass, but beware, there will be road closures along the route, so take a look at your screens. the red line shows the race route. there will be closures along that throughout the day. now you can find you can go to the marathon's website for a full list of closures road closures for this weekend. you can also go on sfmta to find out the muni lines that will be disrupted in the city. maybe that's a good opportunity. if you were planning on taking the bus that early on sunday to get a nice little, brisk jog, going to your destination instead of taking the bus, right? i mean,
6:39 am
we're all in the olympic spirit anyways. guys, back to you. yeah, well, maybe we'll train for five k, keep it right. but being in the spirit and being in the shape. yeah yeah. maybe they have those scooters you can ren. they say it's all mental. there we go. no, it's not just that. it's not happening. yeah. we were looking at the schedule for the ultra marathon. yeah. they start running at 10 p.m. on saturday and i was like, wait, what night? your body wants to be sleeping at that point, i don't know how they do it, but partying. yeah one of the two, one of these things. okay. at least they do have some great weather for the marathon ultra marathon, the five k, all of those things going on this weekend. a lot of runners all around the city and it's going to be cloudy. i think the mist and the drizzle helps it feel a little bit better for you. helps cool the body down and the high temperature will only reach into the low 60s throughout the weekend. for san jose. much
6:40 am
warmer, but this will be a spectacular weekend for the santa clara county fair. today we're in the low 80s and going to see even cooler temperatures tomorrow, with a high of only 74. if you're out there late in the evening, you know to bring a jacket because the temperature will drop like a rock once that wind picks up and it's going to only be in the upper 70s on sunday, we don't get a lot of july days like this. and there's also the fiesta del mariachi happening on saturday. that's also going to be one of those events where you want to make sure you're dressed in layers. as the temperatures cool off, here's a live look in palisades tahoe this morning. it is gorgeous, and if you are lucky enough to be going to the sierra, you do have some nice weather. it will be in the low 80s today, overnight lows in the 40s and cooling down there tomorrow as well with highs in the low 70s. and mike, you have some events to start out with tonight. yeah we'll start with tonight because you know traffic flow right now is moving great. we have smaller incidents but no major interruptions to your friday morning commute over
6:41 am
here. friday night might be a factor though. this is the shoreline amphitheater. and remember, the traffic coming down is already showing some slower drives, and that tends to be the case. both directions because of the traffic from linkedin, google, a number of other microsoft over here. there will also be the concert with niall horan. so both directions. although this guy used to be in one direction, it's going to affect all directions through downtown mountain view. over here we're looking at the giants which will play tonight as well. that's one factor for tonight. and then we're talking about this weekend again. saturday and sunday will both have effects. but sunday is the big talk that ginger showed you that map basically the entire perimeter cutting down through the city and cutting across golden gate park, affecting the embarcadero as well. you'll have those closures and we'll have the early morning closure or impacts to the golden gate bridge, as well as that marathon continues across the span. back to you. well, coming up on today in the bay, the latest on decision 2024. we'll tell you what both candidates are up to. and a really big endorsement. and from the big board to the diving
6:42 am
board, we'll hear from u.s. olympic diving coach david boudia. he himself an olympic gold medalist. the challenges team usa is facing with the diving competition set to get underway tomorrow perhaps

most wanted from the obamas as scott mcgrew. he waited until
6:45 am
well after other democrats endorsed him. but. but with the reason. yes, there is a reason he and other democratic leadership. good morning. had stayed out of this until now. up until now, just like they had stayed out of previous endorsements. i don't know why you don't see me on camera, but i can still talk. we'll pretend it's radio. so obama once called it, putting his thumb on the scale. now that harris is the de facto nominee, she got this phone call. michelle and i couldn't be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the oval office. oh my goodness, michelle. barack, this means so much to me. i am looking the harris campaign posting this video to social media. democratic delegates will vote in early august to make harris their official candidate for president. in the meantime, she is working at the white house already. harris meeting with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu shortly after the israeli leader met with biden. so i just had a frank and
6:46 am
constructive meeting with prime minister netanyahu. i told him that i will always ensure that israel is able to defend itself, including from iran and iran backed militias such as hamas and hezbollah. i also expressed with the prime minister my serious concern about the scale of human suffering in gaza, including the death of far too many innocent civilians. and i made clear my serious concern about the dire humanitarian situation there. we're starting to see polls conducted after biden dropped out of the race that pit harris and trump not in a theoretical matchup, but an actual matchup. the biggest conclusion anyone can make is that harris is performing better than biden, but otherwise it's a total toss up. the latest new york times poll shows trump ahead, but well within the poll's margin of error. he could
6:47 am
be behind. he could be much farther than any of the numbers show. harris progress, though statistically significant and bigger than the margin of error. tellingly 87% say they approve of biden dropping out of the race. former president trump will not have an event until saturday, when he holds a rally with his pick for vice president jd vance in minnesota, mr. trump has started to cast some doubt as to whether he will participate in the next presidential debate, saying he had agreed to debate biden. also, the trump campaign moments ago out with a new ad that finally addresses harris. we'll show that to you in our upcoming 8:00 newscast. last night, vice president harris held a zoom call with 164,000 people, making it one of the biggest zoom calls ever and raised, according to the campaign. $2 million in 90 minutes, netanyahu will meet with trump at trump's mar a lago golf club today. president biden
6:48 am
nothing, nothing on the calenda. he's headed to camp david this evening. marcus, we've seen a lot of those people come up with those zooms. white women for kamala, black women for kamala and black men for latinas. oh yeah. a lot of people are supporting. all right. thanks, scott. okay, so something we've been talking about for quite some time now, two years or so, the olympics, you know, and today it all begins. the opening ceremony there. so the wait is over. all the pomp and circumstance of the olympics set to begin just a few hours from now. that opening ceremony is going to get underway. yeah. and tomorrow things are really going to ramp up. that includes the start of diving competitions, us diving coach david boudia. boudia joined us earlier this morning to talk about the excitement. he is a three time olympian and gold medalist himself, having won the ten meter platform gold in 2012, and says the pressure is on for these athletes. we try to kind of defy the olympic pressure and treat it as that, but it's also at times it's going to creep in
6:49 am
and be like, oh my goodness, i'm i'm representing team usa in front of billions of people. and so it's that pinch me moment. but if they can take it slow it down and do what they've trained hours and hours and hours for, then i think that they could have some success for diving and representing us. he wants to remind athletes to remember why they wanted to go to the olympics and to enjoy their journeys while they are there. i mean, i thought he said something that applies to you know, really any sport, little or big. it's like compete. like you train and train like you compete. very true. you know, i thought about it. i was like, man, you seem very chill. and i'm like, oh, wait, you're coaching. you're not you're not actually competing now. i mean, they can't they can't get overwhelmed by emotion. you know? yeah, i hope they are having fun in the midst of all of that and enjoying paris. and, you know, just taking it as i'm competing, i'm going to give it my best. but i'm also just going to have the time of my life. i'm hoping that's what. yeah, the
6:50 am
olympians get. well if their social media posts are any indication, i think that they are. i mean, you see them like being star struck with other athletes. oh, that's cool to see, you know. and that's that's just cool. the only one that not so much is the cardboard beds. sometimes cardboard been holding up. so yeah. all right. speaking of holding up, will the weather hold up. that's been the question as we take a live look at the eiffel tower. here it is. 649. there it is. 349 in the afternoon. and we've been watching a lot of clouds. so let's check out that weather. it is so exciting. opening day is finally here and we are going to have to watch the athletes out there in the rain. le puy, as we've learned in french. so we are going to see those showers coming through today and hopefully they can pull off all of the stunts for the opening ceremony. we will see the off and on rain in the forecast through tomorrow as well, but as we go into the weekend, much more sunshine coming in and take
6:51 am
a look at how that will change those temperatures. it is really going to start to heat up as we go into early next week. highs in the low 90s by tuesday and then wednesday, all of that heat gets broken by some thunderstorms with the cold front moving through. and we will, of course, be tracking all of the changes as we go through the games and the weather. always playing a factor. and from the iconic eiffel tower to the iconic golden gate bridge, we can see our view this morning. the american flag waving there. it's going to be definitely a sight to see. to watch the opening ceremony, and we have some great weather. if you're going to have a viewing party, maybe take it outside because our weather is cooperating and we're starting out this morning in the low 60s. we're in the mid 50s in san francisco. and as you step out the door, it's a cool morning. it will be a warm afternoon, just not as hot as it has been. these are very normal temperatures for this time of year, in the upper 80s for morgan hill and for the east

bay. we're up to 90 in antioch, oakland today, 69 degrees. also a very breezy wind picking up near the coast. it's in the low 60s, and for redwood city it's in the mid 70s. in san francisco, it's a windy 66 in the outer sunset. and for the north bay, 85 in sonoma, while santa rosa today will reach a high of 82. as we go through the next few days, it's going to feel more like spring with our temperatures in the mid 70s in san jose, and then it will be in the upper 70s for sunday into monday next week. a modest warm up that will once again be closer to what's normal for this time of year. so no major spikes in temperatures, but it will be warmer over the next few days and looking great this weekend. chris and marcus. all right. thank you kari. happening now a first for san jose. it is called the story road night market. it's going to run each night from four in the evening until ten at night outside the grand century shopping mall in the

(vo) do you fargo? you can, with wells fargo. 655, and we are moving you forward with a look at our top stories here on today in the bay. starting with that breaking news in the east bay. so the good news is that firefighters contained a brush fire that burned through the overnight hours near the altamont pass. started a little before ten last night when someone called 911 to report their car on fire alongside 580 near north flynn road. then those strong winds kicked in, fanning those flames. but firefighters now say after burning 500 acres, it is out. no structures were involved. no one
6:57 am
was hurt. well, also breaking in butte county that massive wildfire there now more than 164,000 acres burned with virtually no containment. this is also still no clear way of knowing how many homes have been destroyed so far. it started more than 37 hours ago. this is on the outskirts of chico. authorities do say that a man is now under arrest who they believe started this fire by pushing a burning car down a ravine. it is still not clear what charges he may face. well, the countdown is just about over for the paris olympic games in just a few hours. the 2024 opening ceremony will thrill fans around the world. but ahead of what should be a significant celebratory event, we're following breaking news out of france. a series of coordinated sabotage attacks providing major disruptions to high speed rail routes connecting to paris and french officials believe that the extreme leftist group they are believed to likely be
6:58 am
responsible here today in the bay's jessica aguirre. she is live for us this morning. this is near the arc de triomphe. and jessica, what is the latest from there? well, marcus, we're hearing now that some olympic athletes were among those disrupted by that sabotage. some athletes were on two of the trains. we don't know where those athletes were from or what countries they represented, but we do know that two german athletes on a train into paris had to turn around in belgium, so they will not be attending the olympic ceremony. you can imagine what a devastating blow that must be to them. now the olympic committee says that the opening ceremony will go on even with this sabotage that's happened. those preparations are underway right now. they will be the stands, as you can see. right now, are filling up. they will be in just a little bit. the event will go on. dignitaries, hundreds of state people will be here, 300,000 spectators. they will oversee
6:59 am
and be able to see the parade of nations as it ends. in trocadero. we are in a very high security zone. but the show will go on now. coming up, the today show, hoda and savannah are already inside that perimeter, and they're going to be talking to olympic athletes and telling us all about what's happening with them and really showcasing the entire opening ceremony for us. back to you. all right. as they say, go usa. yeah, go usa. hopefully that's the that's the end of the drama of that kind. thank you so much, jess. so the opening ceremony is today. you can watch it at 1030 this morning with us here or you can watch an encore performance in prime time at 730 tonight, all on nbc. bay area your home for everything olympics. all right, last look at that forecast for us. yeah, it's looking great as we go into the weekend, some of our inland area still warm, making it into the upper 80s today. low 80s tomorrow. and then a gradual warm up next week. but of course we have a wide range in our microclimates. so san francisco and along the
7:00 am
coast will be in the mid 60s at least through the middle of next week. and south bay has my attention. we're looking at 101 with some more slowing and i've circled there in the upper right. that's capitol expressway at tully. reports of a grass fire there. so we're watching that because as kari has been talking about, the conditions are tough out there. we know that from some of the other fires. but this crash north of 85 is clearing near cordell. all right. well, the today show is moments away with that special coverage just mentioned from paris. however, we have your local news as today in the bay continues streaming on roku, pluto and other platforms. live at eight. our san francisco mayoral election coverage continues as we sit down with daniel lurie. well, that does it for us here on today in the bay this morning. thanks so much for allowing us to start the day with you. all right. let's leave with a live look at paris. exciting times. hope you can join us. the eyes of the world are on
