and early this morning, 299 days into this war, it appears to have taken a major name off its list, allegedly tracking down and killing hamas' political chief during a visit to tehran. killed just hours after meeting with iran's supreme leader, another avowed enemy of israel. both blaming israel for the killing and vowing revenge. the israeli government refusing to comment. the revolutionary guard saying the head of the hamas political bureau and one of his guards were killed in an attack on their resident in tehran. iranian media saying it was a missile strike. the war started by hamas' attack on october 7th also spilling into lebanon where israel says it took out a senior commander

in hezbollah, the iranian-backed militant group who was responsible for killing 12 children in a rocket attack on a soccer field over the weekend. but lebanon's health ministry says two children were also killed in the strike. after the attack in iran, hamas reeling from its leaders death. the 61-year-old was more a politician than a fighter. he left gaza five years ago and lived comfortably abroad while his people suffered, traveling the world, rallying support for hamas. on october 7th he celebrated the terror attack. and while the real mastermind is hiding in gaza, israel vowed it would one day take revenge on hamas' most public face. now, there is real fear among the families today that this killing could derail those fragile cease-fire talks.

we're already hearing from the prime minister of qatar. he's asking how can mediation succeed when one party assassinates the negotiator on the other side? israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu, speaking in front of congress last week did say that intensive efforts are underway to try to get the hostages out. savannah? >> raf, thank you. we want to turn to richard engel with us here in paris. you were talking about negotiations that had been bearing some fruit, a hostage deal that the u.s. badly wants. now one of the negotiators killed, presumably by israel in iran. what does that do to this process? >> it disrupts it tremendously. there has been a deal on the table that both sides more or less agreed to for the last several months, and they have been trying to work out some of the details.

other mediators say it's.net who wants more. netanyahu keeps insisting on maintaining troops in gaza, maintaining a long security presence and that hamas hasn't been able to agree to those terms. now after a member of killing a person in their political wing, negotiators, now he's dead. so qatar saying, how are we supposed to continue these talks when you have one side of the negotiating team killing the other negotiating team. >> that raises questions about the timing. is this one of those situations where whomever took out this leader, that was a target of opportunity. it had to be done then or you might lose the opportunity? >> israel, and there are many israeli commentators, people close to the government, are already celebrating this as a huge success. even though they didn't acknowledge it -- the fact that it was done in iran was no

hard for. >> jade, it was interesting because initially on the round of qualifying, you weren't feeling well. and you tweeted out that you were dehydrated. you didn't feel your best. so you had one job. and that job was the vault. and you were standing there. savannah and i were right there at the end of the vault. we knew that all of your training was going to be about this 30 seconds. what did you tell yourself before you landed that? >> i was just telling myself to be my normal self that i am in every day in the gym. that i did so much work and i knew how to do it and it would all be over in 10 seconds. so i was really like a lot of pressure on that one vault. i knew if i was just my normal self it would get the job done. >> your normal self is what you needed. >> if you heard two crazy ladies yelling, it was us. what difference does it make for you guys to have fans in the stands. you were in tokyo. it was such a different vibe.

obviously we know what happened with simone. but also not having your friends and family in the stands. tell us the difference. >> it makes all the world's difference. just to be able to see brian's family, fans up there chanting usa for us, it was incredible feeling. >> hezly, you talked about this being a dream for you. we were online snooping like we tend to do. there was this beautiful video of you when you were a girl. i think you met simone. we're going to roll a little bit of it. let's see. >> oh, my god. that was when simone came to our gym to train for the olympics. she was on the beam, and i was like, what? i was just in shock. i was star struck, obviously. >> hezly rivera! >> can we talk for a moment about that full circle moment? i can't imagine walking in the gym, meeting simone biles as a little kid and then holding her
