5:02 am
looking to score big here. jess yeah, for sure. laura. we are in the home stretch of these olympic games, but don't worry, there's still plenty of opportunities for bay area athletes to bring home a medal. they are jazzed, they are ready and they are not done with the pool. let's take you inside that, because this is what we're starting with today in the water for the artistic swimming team final. later today, three athletes with bay area ties. here's who you want to watch audrey quan headed to stanford, one of the youngest on the u.s. national team, megumi field also committed to the cardinal after paris and jacqueline lieu from milpitas. now, jacqueline is a stanford alum valley christian alum, and she was with the santa clara, aquamaids for seven years. so major south bay cred. in fact, there's a watch party in honor of jacqueline at her former synchronized swimming coaches home in san jose. so they will be watching you, jacqueline go usa. all right, to
5:03 am
the track where calbert nicholas alena will be trying to continue his family's legacy in the discus for lithuania. his father, five time olympian, won three medals, including back to back golds. nicholas, by the way, is making his olympic debut in paris, also making her olympic debut is stanford's rose zhang. she's on the links today. she is trying to qualify for golf. now. if she makes it and she does qualify, she's playing right now. she will be the youngest american golfer in the olympic games since 1904. wow. okay. all right. let's talk about team usa water polo and the aussies. the men taking on australia today. they will be back at the pool. check it out. we've got a lot of bay area connections here. let's go through them. the men need to bring these quarterfinals home. lots of bay area force in the pool including alex bowen, luca cupido, dylan woodhead usa. men, by the way, have not won an
5:04 am
olympic medal since getting silver at the 2008 beijing game, but this could be their year. so lots of names that are very familiar to us here. but the bay area connections are not just here at the olympics. it turns out we have some culinary connections as well. i have a new friend here in paris that i've made former chez panisse chef david leibowitz from the famed eatery is now a celebrated culinary book author, and he lives here in paris. he took me to the 11th district, away from all the tourists, for a lesson in eating in france. and there's not that same like the customer is always right in france. the french are right. no, it's you're a guest. it's like you're eating in somebody's house. usually restaurants. they have one seating and france, so you're not rushed out. they're not, you know, trying to get you out of there. eating french,
5:05 am
drinking french is slow. it's enjoyable. it's with friends and it is delicious. so if you make it to paris and you go to open cru, which is the name of the restaurant, tell them that david sent you. now, coming up at six. she is a phenom. she's from walnut creek and she is bringing home some gold medals. amit isler is the is a golden girl in wrestling. my conversation with her coming up, looking forward to it. and maybe you can get some of those recipes and whip up a little something when you come back to. yeah, dinner at jesse's house. oh, yeah. i'm going to need some help from david. okay all right. looks good. thanks, jess. it is certainly a high flying action in prime time tonight. hurdlers are set to take to the track in the multi semifinal events, plus men's springboard divers looking to make a wave in paris. medals are on the line for women pole vaulters as well. catch everything starting at 8:00
5:06 am
tonight right here on nbc. bay area san francisco police are giving residents a first look at their newest crime fighting tool, and they say that it's already paying off in a big way. about a month ago, the department rolled out its first drone surveillance. this was during a news conference yesterday, chief bill scott showed how the half dozen drones are already leading to arrests. voters approved the new drone surveillance when they passed proposition e in march, which the department says year over year property crime is down 35% and violent crime is down 13%. in the east bay, students are going back to school for the first time after two board members were ousted for not allowing the pride flag to fly on campus. today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from sunol glenn school and bob, enrollment i understand is actually down this fall. is this related, do you think, to this recall election? it's hard to say. good morning to you, laura.
5:07 am
i did speak with one mother who pulled her three children from sunol glenn this fall because she didn't agree with the recall. those two board members, and she felt that the politics surrounding that recall was seeping into the classroom. i also spoke with a new superintendent who's only been on the job for just around a month. she says. enrollment has been down across many schools in alameda county over the past few years, but thinks the recall possibly contributed to a slight drop here at sunol. glenn. again, hard to say. her message the superintendents message. she's very positive about the new school year, in spite of the hurt feelings among some parents i've spoken to, i. here are the numbers. you can see there were 271 kids enrolled here at the beginning of the last school year, this fall, the beginning of this year, 245 students. so that's a drop of about 9.5%, according to my calculations, that 245 includes 224 students who withdrew for reasons unknown. the district says they would like to be at 280 students enrolled, so in june of 2023,
5:08 am
the school flew a pride flag in celebration of pride month. there were complaints in september of last year to sunol glenn school board approved by 2 to 1, a measure that only allowed the campus to fly the flag of the us or california, effectively banning the pride flag. so there was a contentious recall campaign that followed both sides accused the other of name calling this past july, voters ousted board members ryan jorgensen and linda hurley by 5,251%. supporters of those board members point out that they only lost by 15 to 20 votes, so clearly not a mandate. here's the mother who yanked her kids from sunol glenn, who, by the way, doesn't want her face to be shown too much activism, too much political activism in the school already. so i think that that that's not healthy, that's not healthy for them. everyone still has a place here in sunol, and we all like that. we disagree. if we all agreed, it might be, you know, kind of a very strange situation where we
5:09 am
weren't taking any other points of view into consideration, and that's not what anyone's aiming to do. and whether they are for the recall or against it, it that doesn't matter. my job is to support their students academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally so that they're successful here in sunol at sunol, glenn. i spoke by phone with the former board member, ryan jorgensen. he says this recall was quite divisive, thinks the kids behaved better than the adults, feels like the other side that voted them out. preaches tolerance, but doesn't practice it when it comes to other people's views and he says he does support sunol glenn that is inclusive to all students, regardless of background. by the way, he is not pulling his four children. they will be attending sunol glenn again this fall when classes resume this morning. as for the two vacant seats that are now on the board because of the recall, the alameda county board of education has appointed two new board members to serve until there's an election or official appointment. reporting live here in sunol bob redell
5:10 am
today in the bay. all right. thanks for the latest there, bob. 509 for you this morning, taking a live look out in san francisco. get up everyone, it's time to go. oh, i feel like that bad alarm. meteorologist kari hall has our alarm of what's happening with this forecast for us today. it's going to be a nice one. it will be a nice one for much of the bay area. still warm in the valley. so the heat continues there with some mid to upper 90s. the fire danger. also, one of the concerns that we have as we get these breezy winds and our dry hills, but it will be slightly cooler for the weekend. but our temperatures today will range from mid 60s near the coast. low 70s in san francisco, 90s in the north bay, and it will be as hot as 105 in ukiah. while in the inland east bay we're in the mid to upper 90s and 89 today in san jose, so still pretty warm for this afternoon. we'll talk about those slightly lower temperatures and what's ahead coming up in a few minutes. mike has a look at where we can fill
5:11 am
up for less. it looks like the south bay is getting a southland is getting a lower prices there. so they're knocking us out to the higher end of the low prices. but still san jose was one of the few best spots on the list there for the state. they have a low continuing with 365 at golf on tully road. fremont is the best in alameda county. 395 at vargas on grimmer boulevard. meanwhile, we jump up about $0.50 here sonoma county the low is higher. it's about $0.50 higher. like we said, about 447 at north petaluma gas outlet on petaluma boulevard. there. now you get those all over the bay. different price ranges, all reported by folks, all of us gasbuddy.com on the roadways. we're talking about the south bay. there was an issue reported the hamilton off ramp from 17 highway 17 reports a small fire roadside fire there. as we're looking toward the map, it looks like my map is frozen. so we'll just continue on and tell you that the maps are green. that's a good flow of traffic. no backup at the bay bridge. i'll fix the computer. i'm sure you guys might have computer issues too. good morning folks. back to you. i
5:12 am
hope not, but you keep it together, mike. all right. thanks. it is 511 right now. another price hike. still head on today in the bay. the new subscription fee. you'll now be paying and what it will take effect all right. and a strange suit coming out of acts as well. i'll walk you through it. plus heading to broadway when you can expect to see the upside down make its debut on stage. first, here's a look at the current medal count from the olympics in paris. stay with us. you're watching today on can
5:13 am
5:14 am
5:15 am
already see the hazy sky we have as we look toward the hills, and we're going to see temperatures in the upper 60s at 8:00 at noon. it's already in the low 80s, and it will be a very warm afternoon with highs in the upper 80s some spots today. back in the upper 90s inland. so we'll get a look at all of our microclimates coming up. yeah i got the computer working again so you can show you we're talking about, but we'll also show you there are no sensors slowing signs. north 17. the hamilton off ramp may still be closed for a small brush fire alongside the roadway. that's the last update we got on the scene, but no sensors slowing there. meanwhile, the rest of the bay shows a smooth flow of traffic, so we'll check those live cameras. it looks like something just popped up there in the south bay. i'll check on that coming up. well good morning. very happy wednesday to you. green arrows on the market
5:16 am
on tuesday at that after that drubbing. not enough to make up for the losses of course. but for investors at least the arrows are going the right way. yum brands, their pizza hut, kfc, taco bell. they say they're seeing a softening in customer purchases, several fast food restaurants have said the same thing. families are finding it cheaper to eat at home. employees in an apple store in maryland have ratified their very first contract, negotiated as a union. the union says workers will get a 10% raise over three years. it's the first apple store to unionize. the first apple, anything, really to unionize. as we see a different store there, the company now known as x is suing the advertisers that left because of worries of racist and other objectionable content. here's the ceo of x, linda yaccarino. these organizations targeted our company and you, our users, the evidence and facts are on our side. they conspire to boycott x, which threatens our ability
5:17 am
to thrive in the future. an industry collective called the world federation of advertisers encouraged its members, including unilever and cvs drugs, to stop advertising on x because of the risk of content appearing next to racist conten. the group sets a standard for advertisers called the global alliance for responsible media of which x is a signatory. but the social media platform says that set of rules violates american antitrust laws, laws that prohibit companies from working in concert. now, whether x is legally right or not, the effect is it's suing people for not advertising on their platform, musk said yesterday he's declaring war on advertisers a few months after he said this. don't advertise. you don't want them to advertise? no. what do you mean? if somebody's going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmailing me with money, go yourself. but go yourself. so x
5:18 am
is suing advertisers for not advertising. and it's, you know, to the best way to delicately phrase it is most attorneys say that that will not work. yes they wouldn't use the same term that he just. yes. exactly that. most people say that wouldn't work. but yeah. all right. thanks, scott. you bet it is. 517 right now disney raising prices for its streaming plans starting in october, the monthly price for the ad supported and ad free version of disney plus going up by $2 a month to 9.99 and 15.99. hulu with ads will also cost $2 more at 9.99 a month. while the ad free version will go up by $1 to 18.99 a month. prices will also go up for the disney trio bundle of disney+, espn+ and hulu. i was cutting the cord, going with yeah, i know it's adding up that
5:19 am
you cut the cord. all right, well, turning for you this morning, broadway is set to turn upside down. stranger things the first shadow is the stage play. this is based on the beloved series. well, it's going to make its debut next year. the play starts four decades before the series on netflix, debuted last december in london's west end. previews began march 28th, and the official opening night is set for april 22nd. be a little spooky field trip to new york. oh yeah. oh, okay. i'm in. we'll take the show on the road. all right. we're back here at home feeling good for us weather wise. yeah, it's still a little warm in some spots. we're having to run the ac once again and a few more days of that, because our temperatures only go down just slightly in the valleys. but it's been nice and mild in san francisco and near the bay. and we're starting out the morning at 54 degrees. we're at 61 in walnut creek, and it's 63 in palo alto, san jose. you're heading out the door to 64 right
5:20 am
now. let's head to oakland with a look at our day planner. today we're starting out at 60 degrees at 8:00. and it's going to be so comfortable at noon 71 degrees. and we'll see those temperatures staying in the low 70s for today with a mix of sun and clouds. and when we take a look at our high temperatures, what we're expecting today versus what's average for this date, santa rosa, we're going to hit a high of 92. we're used to seeing temperatures on this date around 84 degrees. so we're well above that. and even ten degrees above our average high in concord in san francisco, just slightly warmer. but look at livermore today, 98 degrees and san jose will be in the upper 80s. so that's what we're looking at across the bay area. another day with our microclimates widely ranging from the coast to the inland valleys. it's hot as 105 today in ukiah. most of the north bay in the low 90s, but once again, still some pretty hot temperatures for tomorrow. it's coming down a few degrees, and instead of 89 in san jose, it will be 83 tomorrow. so we're
5:21 am
making some progress here. and on friday it will be about the same with some low 90s in the tri valley as well as the south county and much of the north bay in the upper 80s. so as we take a look at our forecast for the next seven days, going from upper 90s to lower 90s, but it does look so much better next week. we're talking highs in the mid 80s and our overnight lows back in the 50s. and san francisco continues to see 60s in the forecast. a mix of sun and clouds and more of the fog that we see. typical of fog. just like you spotted something again in the south bay as we zoom the map out. we had seen something pop up for the south bay roadways. it's reported here montague expressway at zanker, actually not far from the station. no major issues reported on any of my agencies, but it did pop up. so i did want to report that that's a major intersection, but everything seems to be flowing smoothly from the look at those speed sensors as well. keep my eyes on that. we have highway 37 with a typical little bit of slowing, and for about 3 or 4 minutes we
5:22 am
had some slowing southbound 101 heading down towards spencer, where typically we have a crew clearing right now and we just saw it turn to green. so good stuff here. there's a little bit of slowing that's clearing again from concord as well. typically another crew there that must be clearing heading west over toward 242. there's your commute through contra costa county. we should see some of the first slowing there. walnut creek interchange 24 caldecott tunnel just fine. sos 580. coming out of the altamont, there is a crash on 205, which is preventing a little bit of traffic from getting there. that's why it's a little bit lighter. back to you. thanks, mike. 521 right now, coming up next on today in the bay nbc bay, she suspended her satellite tv service but wound up with a bill anyway, i'm consumer investigator chris chmura, nbc bay area high, which
5:23 am
5:24 am
5:25 am
was surprising since she says she wasn't even supposed to have a bill. so she asked consumer investigator chris moore's team for some help. good morning. maria in alamo was going out of town for more than half a year, so she put her direct tv service on a vacation hold, which was supposed to mean no charges. while she was gone. direct tv's website says vacation holds go up to nine months. well, maria isn't exactly sure when she started her hold, but whenever it was, she didn't realize it was going to expire. so when it did, she wound up with a $200 bill. that was quite a surprise.
5:26 am
maria spoke up, but says direct tv didn't help her reverse that bill. so she called us. we contacted the company and it reversed the $200.52 zero to balance. here's what direct tv told us. we worked directly with the customer to reach a resolution. if you're going out of town pausing things like a tv or streaming service can save you money. some service providers make you call them. others let you easily pause your service on the web. well, either way, you get that pause. you got to get the details in writing. take screen grabs just in case you need to challenge your bill when you return home. if you're dealing with a consumer complaint, maybe we can help scan the qr code on screen right now to fill out our consumer complaint form online. all right. thanks, chris. 526 right now, coming up next, the top stories we're following for you today, including an important night out in oakland amid so much unrest. the reason police

officers union is now pushing for mayor sheng thao to resign. and her response this morning. i'm kris sanchez in san jose, where a child was hit and killed by a driver. we'll tell you what we

5:31 am
laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. let's get caught up with that forecast this morning. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking those temperatures across the bay area this morning. starting out nice and pleasant. i like those temperatures when they're like that in the morning. yeah. can you keep it like that? it won't stay like this all day. we've got a few more hours though of a nice, cool morning. and temperatures mostly in the 50s and low 60s. we're already at 65 in livermore, so a little warmer there. and check out los gatos. not really much of a cool down. we're still in the upper 70s, but compare that to the 48 we have in half moon bay. and as you're heading out in mountain view, it's in the mid 60s. we'll see that through 8:00. and then a lot of sunshine today. really nice afternoon, comfortable temperatures and a light breeze. and it's going to be hot in the valley. so you can see how in the peninsula along the coast it's very mild. and then as you cross into the east bay and work your way farther inland, those temperatures go up and up and u, hitting a high of 98 degrees in livermore today, 99 in fairfield and 92 today in santa rosa.
5:32 am
we'll take a look ahead to the weekend. coming up, mike, you are closely watching traffic crossing the bay bridge. yeah, that's my hobby. that's what i get paid for. also looking over here toward the tail lights, cars being generous. it's fun. it's also interesting, though, for folks who are traveling with the tail light direction out of oakland and in towards san francisco, picking up the volume. no backup at the toll plaza and no metering lights just yet. should see things start to change as we do with these arrows. look across the golden gate bridge. we do start to see a little more slowing once again heading south. they may be moving a few last bits of the crews from overnight on top of the screen. we have highway 37 with the build, and there's a new crash in concord as we yet to get some detail there, but that's where we did see some slowing from an overnight crew. i hope there's no problems there. we're tracking that slowdown though, into concord and toward 242. the rest of the bay shows a smooth drive. notice at the bottom of the screen, a little slowing for north 101 san jose might be a little early. i'll check that out. back to you. all right, mike, thank you. well, a chilling story. as families prepare to send their children back to school, a child
5:33 am
hit and killed in san jose. this is why they were on a scooter today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us live this morning. such a sad story here, chris, do we know what happened here? at this point the investigation is still ongoing. but this is the intersection where this happened in the cambrian neighborhood of san jose and around 430 in the afternoon, which is when this crash happened. this is a pretty busy place, the sirens you hear behind me, unrelated to what we're talking about, but i can tell you that there are people who have been leaving mementos here at the scene of that crash site. some candles, some flowers, and such. no photos. we don't know who this child is at this point, but we do know that it happened again around 430 in the afternoon. we're talking about camden avenue near lee and it appears that the boy was on a scooter near a crosswalk when they were hit by a driver in a truck. san jose police tell us the driver is cooperating with the investigation, and witnesses
5:34 am
were able to tell police also what they saw. my son came home and he just said there was an ax. some little kid got hit down there by the crosswalk right there. that was on a scooter, and he was in the street and he wasn't moving. san jose last year, 49. our people in the area told us that they have seen quite a few other crashes here in this area, including one about a mile away, in which a bicyclist was hit and killed just about three weeks ago. this child is now the victim of the 30th traffic crash in the city of san jose. the city has tried to do things to make things safer for bicyclists and pedestrians and we have seen some of those mitigation measures around the city, although not at this particular location. so when we find out more, we'll let you know in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay. so sad. all right, chris, thank you. well, public safety was actually front and center at many night out events across the
5:35 am
bay area. the national events giving people the chance to build stronger relationships with law enforcement and first responders in oakland, however, neighbors expressed concerns about public safety and the tug of war between oakland police and the mayor's office. the police officers union is now pushing for mayor sheng thao to resign. they sent her a letter demanding her to step down by tomorrow. for two years, almost two years, we've been waiting and we see this schiff is not steering in the right direction. the mayor calls the letter a distraction. she says crime is down more than 30%. numbers. the union disputes. i spoke one on one with mayor yesterday, and i asked her about the recent controversies inside the mayor's office with an ongoing grand jury investigation, including the recent fbi raid of her home. here's here here's some of what she had to say. i am not the target of any investigation. i am innocent, and at the end of the day, it's unfortunate
5:36 am
because this do look like, you know, there is being weight put on the scale, especially during a recall election. we know that this happened to hillary clinton with her emails when she was going up against trump, and that cost her her race. so i would hope that oaklanders understand that only one person is funding this recall. and this person does not live in oakland yet. he lives in piedmont. and so we should all be asking, why is it that we are allowing one person to take away our democracy? my interview was extensive. we talked about crime fighting efforts, the homelessness crisis and much more. will air more of my interview with the mayor during our 8 a.m. streaming newscast. we'll also post a link to the entire interview on our home page. 535 right now, 24 hours ago, many americans had no idea who minnesota governor tim waltz was. all right, scott mcgrew. it seems like every other post there on social media has the hashtag dad energy. dad energy. yeah. good morning. there are a lot of funny posts out there, a lot of enthusiasm
5:37 am
from democrats as well. walz and his new boss, kamala harris, walked into an absolutely stuffed auditorium in philadelphia last night. now, keep in mind, it's only been 17 days since joe biden bowed out of the race. 17 days are about 400 hours ago, and the race is absolutely changed. now there was an elephant in the room there in philadelphia, even though it was a democratic rally, and that was the local governor, josh shapiro, not picked to be harris's running mate, but he was there. he was magnanimous in welcoming the guy who beat him to the job, and he fired up the crowd back home that we're not going back. we are not going back. you're right back on that. now then it was walls turn. keep in mind, 24
5:38 am
hours ago, he didn't know he'd be here. two and a half weeks ago, nobody knew the democrats would need a new vice presidential candidate. i got to tell you, pointing out just an observation of mine that i. that i made, i just have to say it. you know it. you feel it. these guys are creepy. and, yes, just weird as hell. that's what you see. that's what you see. so walsh said he was eager to debate republican vice presidential candidate j.d. vance. he did make an off color joke referencing an internet meme about vance, which is not true, and the crowd found it funny. but the harris campaign has been battling falsehoods both on the internet and from donald trump, but now is repeated. one about the opposition. here's vance. the biggest problem with the tim waltz pick. it's not tim waltz himself. it's what it says about kamala harris that when given an opportunity, she will bend the knee to the most radical elements of her party. that's exactly what she did here.
5:39 am
that's what she's going to keep on doing as president. now, we mentioned social media users are finding a treasure trove of old walls videos, including this one where he explains how to replace the headlamp in a ford edge suv, but also reminds people to vote in a minnesota election, which was the point of the video. walls, by the way, says you can get a new one at napa auto parts for 7.99. you need to use some shrink wrap connectors to put it back in. but marcus says it will take about five minutes. well, if i ever have to replace one, i know where to go. all right. thanks, scott. well, some parts of the central valley cleaning up. this is after that moderate quake last night. it had about a 5.2 magnitude, was centered about 20 miles outside of bakersfield. hit a little before nine last night. now, surveillance video showing people rushing out of a liquor store. this is in bakersville. you can see there dozens of the bottles or so falling there to the floor. that quake also dislodged a boulder which blocked lanes of i-5. this is overnight southbound in the
5:40 am
grapevine. and here are some video from nearby caltrans camera. all of those lanes are open again this morning. meteorologist kari hall of course, tracking and tracking all of this. taking a closer look at the fault lines surrounding this quake. the kern county earthquake last night is still rocking the central valley with aftershocks, and there are more than 500 active faults across california. so we're still trying to determine exactly which fault this was closest to. but they are all a part of the san andreas fault system, which is a strike slip fault. this happens in a fracture of the earth's crust. it causes two blocks of rock to slide horizontally past each other. they build up pressure and eventually it snaps, causing the shaking we feel. and after a major quake, the aftershocks may go on for weeks or even months until things settle. we'll continue to monitor for bigger quake, but the chance of one larger than the 5.2 is only 5%
5:41 am
okay, 5% pretty low. over here. we're looking at the chances of any slowing pretty high for san jose. so we'll talk about that. it looked a little more widespread than we typically see, but things calm down over the last few minutes. this is the typical pattern for your first slowdown on one on one. but since we're down here, also want to let you know that the caltrain system has been reporting that there are issues with regard to where you board the trains at diridon station. so watch those overhead signs down here in san jose. they've been talking about that for the first few trains heading out of the area. meanwhile, we're getting a chance to look ahead because things are pretty calm on the roadways. we're looking at the coliseum. today is the third of three games we've had over there. the athletics play though at 1237 today. what that means is that when the game gets out and the crowds start to head out of the parking lot, there may overlap with some folks who might be heading over in toward the area. probably not. it's a good distance away from the evening concert, but just note that it's a reggaeton concert. there's don omar here, and so there will be some probably flashing lights inside. i don't think you're going to see that
5:42 am
outside. just a note that there will be crowds getting there for the evening concert. a smooth flow of traffic for most of the bay. we're looking over here, though we still have slowing highway four westbound towards san marcos. there is a crash or at least a disabled vehicle. i think it's a fender bender there with one vehicle in the middle lane, and that's causing a good deal of slowing for highway four, which is already continuing to see the build out of antioch into pittsburgh. really bay point into concord is where we'll see the most slowing there. so that is an issue, and that may have more folks heading down bailey and down kirker pass to ignacio valley road. we're looking at a smooth drive, even though down willow pass road, so those speed sensors haven't started to change yet. be prepared for folks heading down through concord, pleasant hill, and walnut creek. back to you. thanks, mike. 541 new fallout from a controversy during one of the signature olympic events coming up on today in the bay, the unusual boycott now being planned by one world leader. i'm ginger conejero saab in san francisco. two new docu series are set to be released on a decades old murder case. up

hear from scott peterson's then mistress amber frey. voice recordings from the time of their affair are also highlighted in the teaser. the announcement from netflix comes a week after peacock announced it will release its own three part docu series on the peterson murder. face to face with scott peterson will be released on august 20th, and it spotlights the first on camera interview in over 20 years with scott peterson. in 2004, peterson was convicted of murdering his wife laci, who was eight months pregnant. at that time. he is currently serving a life sentence without parole, and is in an ongoing bid for a new trial. his sister in law, janey peterson, is also interviewed in that docu series. she believes scott was wrongfully convicted of that murder. now, from television screens to the courtroom, peterson and his defense team from the los angeles innocence project project are currently in that bid for a new trial. we are awaiting a ruling that deals

carlos, they were actually sent home from the olympics in 1968. this was in mexico city and this was after their silent protest. the curator of the sculpture represents how the single action can have a ripple effect on history. change starts at one point, but it can can carry through and just show waves of it where there's peaks and valleys of where like the effect is strong, but then it can kind of go down. but you have to kind of keep moving forward. and it's beautiful there. that sculpture was created in 2013 by artist glenn kaino, and it took several years for that work to bring the installation to the smithsonian. but there it is really interesting because at first you don't see it. it almost looks like a spine or something. i thought that when you describe it, you're like, wow, they've got ties to san jose as well. yeah, students there actually, you know, national night out, i met a man who the one i told you about, neighbors who went to school during that time at san jose state. so he he knows who

great first day of school. let's get a closer look at the south bay. our high temperatures in the upper 80s for milpitas, but we're still in the mid 90s for the south county today. morgan hill headed for 96 degrees and we're up to 98, in antioch, livermore, concord, while still staying mild in oakland today. highs in the upper 70s along the coast. it's in the mid 60s and 83. in redwood city, palo alto in the upper 80s, and san francisco reaching 70 downtown and in the outer sunset in the upper 60s. 79 in mill valley and 90 in novato. we're still looking at those triple digits again today in clear lake santa rosa, up to 92 degrees. let's take a look at palo alto. we are looking forward to cooler temperatures ahead. we're in the upper 70s low 80s today and then upper 70s extending into the weekend. but look at early next week if here is 70 degrees, some of our warmer spots will only make it into the mid 80s. so that's what we're checking out
5:56 am
in our inland forecast as we go into the weekend and early next week. it's still pretty warm, but this will be the hottest day. we'll see as those temperatures will drop down to the low 90s tomorrow. and then in san francisco. not much of a change here, just some peeks of sunshine and highs in the upper 60s. mike you've been tracking a bigger delay in cocoa county. yeah, we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic for most of our traveling. in fact, the bay bridge metering lights weren't registered as on in the grid, but i do see the slowing. so that should indicate they need to slow that traffic down onto the bridge itself. this is the big slowdown in contra costa county. westbound highway four right around san marco. no tow truck called for. they waved that off. but there are two vehicles that got involved in this crash and it's still a big backup. so this is a tough drive coming out of pittsburgh and bay point, which i think they're starting schools with antioch, pittsburgh tomorrow in the area. so that will mean a change in patterns over the next week through that area as well. so look at the long drive now out of antioch over to 242. that last of that stretch where you
