tv   Today in the Bay  NBC  August 9, 2024 6:00am-7:00am PDT

6:00 am
our watch. that's criminal. right now, at six. fed up. a new
6:01 am
warning from governor newsom to counties on clearing out encampments. the key funding he's threatening to take away if local leaders don't take action. plus, vice president harris heading to the bay area, the fundraiser being held and how much it will cost you to mingle with the democratic nominee. and we are winding down from the olympics. but you know what? team usa still going strong for gold. we're live in paris with the bay area athlete looking to bring home medal gold. this is today in the bay. and good morning to you on this friday i'm marcus washington. what was that last part friday. i'm laura garcia. we're going to check that morning commute with mike in just a little bit. but let's talk about the forecast for this friday with kari. it looks great for the weekend. we have so many events going on around the bay area and the weather is cooperating, coming down a few degrees even in some of the valleys. but we're starting out chilly in san francisco. it's 53
6:02 am
degrees right now, 59 in palo alto and 62 in san jose. as we take a live look in walnut cree, it is all clear and we have a lot of sunshine in the forecast for us for today, going from mid 60s at 9:00 to mid 80s at 3:00 today, and we'll see a wide range in temperatures once again, anywhere from 62.5 moon bay to 101 in clear lake. we'll be tracking that weekend forecast. mike, you have a look now at the north bay. yeah, we're taking a look here. southbound 101 here past the north san pedro road and over the hill toward lincoln. we're looking at a smooth, easy drive still for the morning up in the north bay, and that's pretty standard for a friday morning. lighter volume. did hear about a crash on the blotter here. just a one on one near atherton avenue. again, that's in novato, not the one on the peninsula that goes through atherton, but we're looking at a smooth drive nonetheless. this earlier crash also sticking around on the blotter. although chp could not find any vehicles there on highway 37. so standard little build out of vallejo and actually no slowing for highway four. out of out of concord. back to you. thank you. mike.
6:03 am
well, governor gavin newsom threatening to pull funding from counties if they don't start taking down encampments, but the mayor of san jose is pushing back, saying people have to have a place to go today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us from san jose with a little bit more on this back and forth. kris well, hi there, marcus and laura. so mayor matt mahan is pushing back saying that this rush by the governor to clear unhoused people from state land really does risk just shifting people from one jurisdiction to another. the governor made that threat yesterday at an encampment in southern california, two weeks after issuing that executive order to take down encampments on state property. now statewide, over the last three years, local programs for the unhoused have gotten $1 billion a year. but now the governor is threatening to pull that funding from counties that are not doing their part. i'm here on behalf of 40 million californians that
6:04 am
are fed up. i'm here because i'm one of them. i want to see results. this is not about criminalization. what's criminal. it's neglecting people that are struggling and suffering and dying on our watc. now, in santa clara county, the city of san jose has been working with valley water to clear and then ban encampments along creeks and waterways in order to avoid the pollution that could get the city fined. now, people who return will get a warning, then there's a $500 fine and up to 30 days in jail. if they refuse to leave. but recently, san jose shifted some money from permanent housing to more temporary housing in order to create that, and part of mayor matt mason's response to the governor's threat reads, our state counties and every city must show equal resolve in expanding shelter and in-patient treatment beds, so we can offer people a dignified place to go without these solutions, we spend precious taxpayer dollars simply shuffling people from one jurisdiction's land to another.
6:05 am
and certainly we have seen that when one encampment is cleared, the a lot of the folks just end up in a different spot. so the governor says that he will make good on that threat to pull funding as early as the next budget cycle in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay. all right, chris, thank you. well, new video for you this morning. a crash involving a police cruiser. this happened last night near san jose community college. you can see there the damage done to the front end of that car, which struck a sedan. now, police do not or did not provide an update, but we don't believe that there were any serious injuries here. 6042 decision 2024 and the return of vice president kamala harris to the bay area. she'll be in san francisco on sunday for a fundraiser. donors will pay a minimum of $3,300, but the website indicates that tier is already sold out, as are the next three tiers up to $50,000. tickets are still available at
6:06 am
the 250,000 and $500,000 level. the exact location details are still under wraps, but bloomberg reports it will be at the fairmont. stay with nbc bay area all weekend as we continue to bring you coverage ahead of the vice president's visit. you can keep up with us online or on our mobile app, or find us wherever you stream. 605 right now, the final stretch of the 2024 paris olympics now underway, but for one team usa competitor, his summer competition ending very differently than how it began today in the bay's jessica aguirre live for us in paris this morning. and jessica, we're talking about noah lyles here won the bronze and the 200 meter. but walking away with something else definitely wasn't aiming for while he was over there at the games. yeah, he did not noah lyles did not get the two medals he was hoping for. instead he got covid and there was that dramatic finish where he left the track in a wheelchair, of all things. i know you saw this. it was pretty
6:07 am
dramatic. lyles lines up for the 200 meter final, hoping to make history and become the first american man to win the 100 and the 200. but that's not what happened. lyles outrun by the runner from botswana and his u.s. teammate, and then immediately after he lays on his back, gets medical attention and is taken off the track. and that makeshift wheelchair later revealing, though, that he ran with covid. in fact, he was diagnosed two days before the race. it is a controversial decision, to be sure. now. lyles was supposed to take part in the men's four by 100 relay final friday today, but it appears he is done in paris. the runner posting on instagram quote i believe this will be the end of my 2024 olympics. it is not the olympic i dreamed of, but it has left me with so much joy in my heart. i hope everyone enjoyed the show. okay, heart stopping and heartbreaking game for team
6:08 am
usa women's water polo. i was there when they went against australia. it was one point, one point and then the australians took it in a final round of sudden death. the semi team usa fought hard but the australians took their chance at a fourth straight gold in that shootout. they still have a chance at the bronze on saturday when they go against netherlands. all right, us men have their semifinal game this afternoon against serbia. water polo team has not won the men a medal since taking silver in beijing. they are hoping that all that bay area power that they have in the water, with the likes of alex bowen, luca cupido, dylan woodhead will propel them to the podium. and let's talk about taekwondo. we haven't talked about this yet. taking center stage at the grand palais today, east bay's c.j. nicholas making his olympic debut and qualifying rounds. now he is team usa's best shot at a medal and he is heading into the
6:09 am
quarterfinal round in just a few minutes, so bonne chance to him. and usa versus italy for the bronze in volleyball. neither team has won a medal since rio in 2016. the u.s. is hoping to get some more hardware and look for stanford's eric shigo and cal bear alum taylor averill to get the job done. and now here we are. before you know it, it is closing time. as in closing ceremony time. that will happen on sunday. it's going to happen in le stade, which is where all those track and field events have happened before, a lot of things happen. not only do they celebrate the athletes and their accomplishments, but it's also the time when they pass the olympic flag on to the next host city, which in this case is los angeles. in 2028. so expect it to be different than what you saw in the opening ceremony. there it was, athletes on barges sailing down the san river, and then you saw celine dion singing
6:10 am
and the eiffel tower, the closing ceremony will be on land at the stade, where all the track and field competitions have been taking place. the theme is records. the stadium is going to be transformed into a giant concert hall. there's going to be acrobats, dancers, circus performers. nbc's mike tirico says this is the best olympics he has ever covered, and paris has been the star. i mean, let's be honest, we were unsure if they were going to be able to pull off that opening ceremony behind us and all across the city. two weeks ago, using the city iconic landmarks for all these venues, that beach volleyball it's going on right now behind us, we can hear crowds and we've been hearing them all week. so, five star job by paris. the beach volleyball was phenomenal, that is for sure. now tirico is going to be on the today show kind of talking, taking a look back, looking at the u.s, how they did, how the paris games did, and then what other surprises
6:11 am
might be revealed in that closing ceremony. here's something that is not a secret. the u.s. flag bearers stanford alum and 14 time olympic medalist katie ledecky and rower nick mead, who, by the way, trained in the east bay, will be the flag bearers, which is a big honor for the bay area. of course, now some 80,000 people will be packing lystad stadium. and by the way, the closing ceremony is being done by the same artistic director that did the opening ceremony. so you can expect quite a few surprise surprises. as the french say, it's going to be spectacular. i am just hoping we don't see bacchus, the naked guy, dressed all painted in blue. let's not get to the controversy in this one. no, no. yeah yeah yeah. and then there's rumors that, tom cruise might participate. billie eilish, you know, is the handoff to los angeles. so we will see. well you know, handing things
6:12 am
off to you as well. it's going to be spectacular. well, jess, you've done a spectacular job. this is your final morning with us from paris on today in the bay. so we want to say a very big merci beaucoup. thank you. so much. we know you've been doing so much work navigating the streets of the city of light. and the thing is, folks at home need to know that jess is not alone. it takes a to team do what we do. photographers. robbie dsm abbey some rather mikey vang, producer christine nee all helping put together a spectacular gold medal performance. so thank you very much. really. job well done to them. we were running a relay together, an olympic relay and we did it together and it's been a simone honor. merci, can't wait to see you back here with maybe some of those croissants stuffed in your purse. i'm cutting off the croissants. i'm back to no carbs, thanks so much, steph. oh boy. hey, and look, we are nearing the end of the competition, but some highly
6:13 am
anticipated events are taking place tonight in prime time. you can watch the women take to the water and the diving springboard final. women are also hoping to spike their way to victory and beach volleyball. and don't forget following by several track and field events where medals are on the line tonight. and we will also find out who will claim gold as breaking. it's making its highly anticipated olympic debut. don't want to miss that. it's all taking place right here on nbc bay area at 8:00 tonight and this weekend. there are two olympic watch parties as team usa vies for gold and the men's basketball and women's soccer, both of them happening over at the lot city center bishop ranch. you can actually see steph, katie and lebron not in person, but on the big screen there as they hit the court at 1230 saturday afternoon. and then the women's national soccer team, they're playing brazil for gold. that watch party begins at six tomorrow night. and if you want to see them play the game live, you can go over because bay fc hosting its own event
6:14 am
that watch party will take place at o'flaherty's irish pub in san jose. those doors open at 7:30 a.m. 6:13 a.m. right now. historic condo for sale in san francisco. it was featured in alfred hitchcock's vertigo next on today in the bay. we're going to take you inside that home. donald trump making a lot of claims about business and economics. in his press conference. we'll fact check those. let's go out to the future. had a great day on the markets yesterday. maybe a little money coming off the table today. plus, do you want to live out your 90s dreams? well, polly pocket experience. you just have to see to believe and here's a look of the current medal count. much more ahead. you're watching today in the bay

6:19 am
out, essentially the gasoline to keep the to keep the price down a little bit. and it's had very little impact. but you know what? we have no strategic national reserves now. now trump at one point actually wanted to cut the strategic petroleum reserve in half, but was talked out of it, it's fair to say, because america pumps so much of its own oil these days, a record amount in fact, we don't need the spr the way we used to. and a new survey from cnbc called the all american economic survey finds 80% of trump supporters say they know some or a lot of trump's policies towards the economy, compared to just 58% for harris, the poll has a margin of error of 3.1%, conducted early last week. we would like to see more of harris's platform, but of cours, we'll see that at the democrat. well, we presume we're going to see it at the at the democratic national convention. going to need to. all right. thanks, scott. you bet. well, new at six for you. now's your chance to

live in the landmark building featured in a classic film. but it's going to cost you. yeah you actually won't have much room for storage there. this is a one bedroom, 715 square foot top corner condo at 351 buena vista. it's above the haight and it's listed at $900,000. but you can also tell all your friends the same building was briefly featured in alfred hitchcock's classic film vertigo, shown in the then and now youtube video. right here. look at that. so this was the sanatorium. this is where jimmy stewart's scottie was treated for a nervous breakdown. this is at the time that building was a hospital. but that's all secondary because this place is a piece of both san francisco and cinematic history. i love those classic movies. i love alfred hitchcock. yeah, it was good. the birds, some cary grant in a day. oh yeah. okay, so look, while you may not be able to afford that

condo, maybe this one is a little bit more affordable for something for everyone. airbnb is making 90s kids dreams come true. check out their latest icon house. it is a life size version of polly pockets plastic house located in littleton, massachusetts. the two story, 42 foot tall, shell shaped compact features all the important details of that popular toy from toy, from the iconic vanity to human scale versions of even those little outfits, little skirts and stuff. the dresses well, kid, best guests can book one of three one night stays between september 12th to the 14th for four guests for $89 each. bookings open, bookings open on august 21st and they close august 28th, so it could be a deal. yeah, take you back a little bit. it's tough though because like if they're not paying attention when you close the house for the night, everything falls down and you have to tip of the rock. you had to pick it back up, put it back

up. yes polly pocket problems. all right. the closest thing you probably get is this croc shoe. where and they're very nice. all right, another thing that's nice. the weather. okay. things are cooling down just a bit. yeah. heading into the weekend. you know, we're already seeing a different picture as we take a live look outside. compared to yesterday, it was clear. and it was already sunny in san jose. but now we have the clouds to start out the morning, and that means it's going to be cooler today, especially once we get the clouds lingering for a few hours and for the inland areas, it's still hot. we'll have the hazy sunshine and occasionally some drifts of smoke, but it will be cooler for the weekend starting on sunday and then into early next week. now we'll also go back to some more normal temperatures, which seems like it's been a while since we've had our average high temperatures. so it's the second day of school for the kids stepping out in newark and a drop off time. it will be in the upper 50s, a little bit of a chilly start to the day, but it's going to be so nice and comfortable at pick up time. it
6:23 am
will be in the mid 70s. you might want to stay out there and maybe walk to the park for a little bit and enjoy this friday afternoon. we'll see temperatures in san francisco in the upper 60s. as you go inland, you can see the range in our high temperatures. it's still going to be hot reaching 92 in concord, 96 in vacaville, and up to the triple digits for ukiah and clear lake, while santa rosa will be in the upper 80s, taking it into the day tomorrow. it may be slightly hotter, and some of those valleys, while staying mild near the coast. and once again, sunday is when we start to see all of our temperatures coming down, a lot of 70s and low 80s. so we're getting that relief that extends into next week as well, even going down several more degrees by next thursday. so we are headed on a cooling trend just and we have to stick it out for a couple of more days of the heat. mike, you're looking at our friday commute. yeah it looks like friday. so we'll make this quick. no backup at the bay bridge. although the metering lights have been activated, no real problems. a little slowing

lands. you know, music from everyone you just love and they have the food, but also that potential traffic out there. so we have live team coverage for you on everything you need to know. if you're heading to the city this weekend. and what does paris and ice cube have in common? we go one on one with the legendary rapper to talk about the looming challenge for team usa, and let's just say it's going to be a good day right here on today in the bay. a very good friday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. all right. you said it's going to be a good day. let's check in with that weather because i think it's going to be a good one all across the bay area. live. look out in walnut creek this morning. kari. of course, tracking what we can't see necessarily. but that's the air quality. we need to be mindful of that. right absolutely. today we are seeing a little bit more in the way of drifts of smoke from some nearby fires moving in. and we are going to have moderate air quality all across
6:33 am
the bay area that's the light blue shading coming off of a couple of fires, one of them a newer one that's over in el dorado county, but most of the heavier and the thicker plumes of smoke is blowing over towards south lake tahoe. and then we also see the continuation of the park fire that continues to also put up some plumes of smoke. and we are going to have to watch out for that air quality as we go into today. but once again, another look at walnut creek with our beautiful orange sunrise. we are going to see lots of sunshine today and highs reaching into the mid 80s. we'll take a look ahead to that weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. thanks so much, kari. well new overnight two people are in the hospital after being shot outside of a popular santa cruz night spot. it happened last night in the parking lot of the crow's nest on east cliff near the harbor. our sister station tells us the victims are in critical condition. police say at least two people were in the suspected vehicle, identified as a black dodge charger. developing right now, the hunt continues for the man who opened fire yesterday at uc berkeley's clark kerr track, terrifying people on their
6:34 am
morning jog. officers from multiple agencies swarmed the track a little before 8 a.m. police say a man fired at least two shots near the runners. no one was injured, but the search led to a six hour lockdown in that surrounding area. the shooter, described as having bleached hair with red or orange highlights and was wearing a black shirt and red backpack. well, covid is surging this summer here in california. the vaccines are now becoming just hard to find today in the bay's bob redell. joining us live this morning from pleasanton. and bob, do we know the reason behind this limited supply? we do good morning to you, marcus. you know, we asked this question to one major health care provider and three pharmacies. rite aid's corporate office. they tell us that their supply of covid 19 vaccinations is limited because the current doses are expiring and they're waiting for the newly formulated vaccines for 2024, 2025 to arrive. expected this september, which is just a few weeks away.
6:35 am
i just heard back from walgreens and we had already heard from cvs and they gave a similar response. as they say, cbs tells us that many of their locations still have doses, but they can't restock because again, they're waiting for those new doses to ship out. i have been on the cvs website this morning, and i'm able to schedule a kovacs here in the tri-valley. i also know san francisco has doses available. here's a statement from kaiser permanente, a major healthcare provider i mentioned earlier due to the limited supply of the 20 2324 covid 19 vaccines, kaiser permanente will not be routinely providing covid 19 vaccination for some or all age groups for the rest of the summer, depending on service area, vaccination for all recommended age groups will resume when a 20 2425 covid 19 vaccines are available in september. these new formulations are expected to provide additional protection against the currently circulating strains of the covid 19 virus. doctor peter chin-hong, infectious disease specialist at ucsf, tells us.
6:36 am
the new subvariant kp 3.1.1 came out of the blue, not more deadly than other variants, but definitely more transmissible. a lot of people got vaccinated in general in the community, including those over 65 this past year, not a lot of people got immunized. so when the summer, increase in cases came right now, a lot of people are scrambling to get vaccines. if you are 65 years of age or older or immunocompromised, doctor chin-hong recommends you get the new shot. but wait until october. remember, the new shots come out on september, he says. wait until october so that the antibodies peak in the winter time, when there will most likely be another uptick in covid and back here to rite aid. i have been on the rite aid website. you can't even select the covid 19 vaccination because apparently they don't have any where a cvs. you still can.
6:37 am
again, everything should be back to normal in september. reporting live here in pleasanton. bob redell today in the bay. all right bob, thank you. well the stage is set. big acts coming to san francisco starting today for outside land. vice president kamala harris also will be in the city this weekend. so most likely there's going to be a lot of traffic. yeah, we do have live coverage for you this morning. everything you need to know before you head out on the go. let's start with today in the bay ginger conejero saab. she's live for us over at golden gate park. ginger, i'm sure you're setting up to get in early before everyone else. the question is, have you had your espresso this morning? yes, i have marcus and laura because of course i am ready to talk about the outside lands music festival here at golden gate park. it is such a big draw for the city every year. but as you both have mentioned, this year, it falls on an already busy weekend. there's baseball. the giants are in town, and the vice president is also set to visit, so the traffic may just be hot. oh, go.
6:38 am
if you know you know, let's talk about the stage that is set. the stage is here. i should say are set for outside lands music festival. the three day celebration of music, food, wine and art is a big draw to the city. this year. it's bringing in these headliners tonight you can catch the killers. that's more my generation. you can also catch sabrina carpenter tomorro, august 10th, and sturgill simpson and post malone on sunday. now, not a good writer? check this out. and you can hear the big crowds there singing along with, chappell roan. she is not a headliner at outside lands this year, but if you know, you know about the up and coming singer coined the midwest princess who may have recently broke a major record at lollapalooza, she reportedly had the largest crowd or the largest
6:39 am
daytime crowd in lollapalooza history. now we'll see how the outside lands experience compares. she will be here this sunday at the lands end main stage at 4 p.m, but whatever your music tastes are, outside lands is a big economic boost for san francisco. there are 75,000 people expected to come each day of the festival, and the city anticipates a $75 million boost to the local economy on an already busy weekend. people are working really hard and doing what they need to do to make ends meet, but then people want to experience something other than working and we provide that as well. sf rec and park has one tip for people who are coming to golden gate park. it is don't drive. take public transportation if you must because it will be a hard difficult to park or to drive around the area. the traffic is going to be h o t t o g o. there
6:40 am
you go. that time a little bit smoother, but, that was. but i will say i'm more kind of my kill. the killers are a little bit more my speed, and i'm coming out of michelle and i'll be just fine. oh, yeah, i like that. so i love the killers. they're really good. yeah, that was the best preview ever. yeah, i know the festival queen ginger conejero saab. everyone go. good assignment there. that is. best assignment of the day. there you have it. all right. and so hopefully the weather is going to cooperate this weekend no matter what you're doing in the bay, right. there are so many events and festivals going on. and there's going to be such a big range in temperatures from one festival, one city to the next. we're going to see for outside lands, the cool weather continuing. you want to make sure you have the hoodie some layers. it's only going to reach into the low 60s and we're going to start out with some fog each and every day, only some peeks of sunshine. and once that wind picks up 2020 five mile per hour winds and temperatures in the
6:41 am
50s, that is going to feel very chilly out there. so be prepared. we are also going to have the filipino festival and parade happening in san francisco this weekend. a little bit warmer on this side of the city near the civic center plaza. it will be in the upper 60s, but still very nice and mild. but we do have some hot weather for the gilroy rodeo all throughout the weekend. we're going to see temperatures in the low 90s for today and tomorrow, and then some mid 80s on sunday. bring the sunscreen in san jose. we will have the summer jazz festival and really nice and comfortably warm for the afternoon. cooling down quickly for the evening with our lows coming down to the low 60s and cool weather along the coast this weekend for our beaches, it's going to be in the 60s and low 70s. the warmest temperatures in santa cruz, with a high of 73 on saturday. mike, you're giving us a note also about outside lands. yeah, in case folks weren't clear, this is in golden gate parks and it will be much of golden gate park

basically. now for those who are getting dropped off their lincoln way, there is a perimeter. actually, there's a map on the website for outside lands, but there is a portion of lincoln way on the southern perimeter where you cannot pick up or drop off. and so watch for those demarcated areas and watch for any hand signals. not the ones that ginger was doing. that's for a dance for chapel road. we're looking over here toward a little slowing on the bay bridge and a build. now richmond over towards san rafael. highway 37, moving smoothly and just a little build for contra costa county as well. back to you. thanks, mike. well, you know what? today is a good day, and it is not just because it's friday. last week messed around and got a triple double freaking brothers every way like mj. i can't believe today was a good day. who are you? remember that? yes, i had for you here on today in the bay we are joined live by ice cube. we're going to talk about the all new challenge. he's throwing up for a few olympians. but remember we are kicking off our school shout

real stealth. yes. my childhood. yeah, that means it. all right. for more than three decades, he has entertained the world through his music, movies, and of course, his business endeavors. he is a rock and roll hall of famer, grammy lifetime achievement award winner, a father, husband, co-founder of the big three three on three baseball league. what a talent. joining us live this morning ice cube thanks so much for joining us on today in the bay we certainly could talk to you about a number of things this morning, but let's talk about the big three. the popular popularity has really grown in the past seven seasons, but for those who don't know, explain how it's different from the nba. aside from the number of players on the court. well, i think it', you know, a lot faster, and in a
6:47 am
lot of ways, it's half court. three on three instead of five on five, and first to 50 wins. so it's a sprint. there's no, game clock, but there is a shot clock. so you have 14 seconds to get your shots up. and, fast paced, like i said, first to 50 wins. we have a four point shot, we have great little wrinkles in our game to make it fun to play and fun to watch. okay, the thing about this all, i mean, it's so great to see this with the popularity growing currently there are 12 teams. correct me if i'm wrong. now the first of the season, the game was played right here in the bay area over in oakland back in june. how has the response been from the fans out there? oh, the fans love the big three all over the world, we've been, you know, fortunate
6:48 am
enough to have major broadcasting worldwide. and, you know, it's going to you know, it's been amazing. you know, we started off the season on my birthday, june 15th in oakland, i think the fans really appreciated us, you know, going to oakland and to so many, teams leaving the area. so, you know, we've accumulated millions of fans all over the world in these seven years, and we just want to keep that going. and i want to talk to jeff next to you because, jeff, i know jeff, you're the co-founder with ice, right, with all of that, talk to me about how you all came up with this, because, look, i remember growing up as a kid playing three on three in the neighborhood, but you all taking it to a new level. tell me about the plan behind that. yeah. i mean, look, you know, cuban, i looked at the way three and three was being played, and we thought this game could be professionalized and we designed rules and a structure around it
6:49 am
to do that. and i think what makes it so much why it's the most competitive basketball league in the world, is that like the nfl? every game has stakes. you know, we don't have like a long regular season, like a lot of sports do. and half the teams make it. you got to win. and our teams come to play. they come and shape. they play hard nosed defense. you know it's the 50s so there's no garbage minutes. and they they they can bring it. and i think, you know, whether it's recently retired nba players, you've still got gas in the tank or it's 25 and 26 year olds that are playing around the world, you know, they want to show their skills. everybody's got their own reason for playing. but every person on that court wants to win. they ain't playing for money. they get paid. but they ain't worried that playing. they ain't playing for their brands. they're playing to win because they want
6:50 am
to compete. yeah. and it makes it so entertaining for the fans watching it too. just getting in there and playing. okay ice cube, we got to ask you while you're still here, what else are you working on these days? i know you got your hands in so many different projects. yeah. finishing up an album called man down, so hopefully that'll be out. you know, once the season is over, we can really focus on putting that out. and, of course i got, you know, movies in the works, some. we're making great progress on on, finally, you know, having a deal to do the fourth friday movie. so very excited about that, yeah, just keeping it going, you know, hopefully we'll we'll be able to tour later on this year off the album and, you know, then it'll be back to big three time again. yeah all right. there you have it. this morning, co-founders of the big three ice cube. and jeff
6:51 am
joining us this morning. thank you all so much for being a part of this. and bringing the big three to the bay area as well. we appreciate that. kicking things off here. yeah yeah yeah. thank you guys. good to see him. all right. that's fun. 650 right now you know what's back in the sky these days. what's that? the perseids got to get up early to see the meteor shower. but carrie's got to look at the best times to watch. yes. so we're hoping for a clear weekend. no smog. mama may cook the breakfast with no hog. you know, that's a kentucky thing. bringing kentucky it up. look it up, folks. that mean i'm burning my bacon? i don't get it. the ice cube reference, you know. good day. all right, well, we are going to have a clear sky for parts of the bay area this is the meteor shower. we look forward to all year long. it gives us the most meteors and also gives the brightest ones. they move fairly quick across
6:52 am
the sky as well. you don't really need a telescope. you can do this just looking up in the dark sky right around midnight into early in the morning. it will peak this weekend into early next week, but we'll actually just continue with a few less meteors overnight as we go toward early in september. but once again, this is the weekend into early next week to make some time in the overnight hours to look at the night sky. now, the other question is, will it be foggy? will we have any smog? we are going to see the low clouds moving in as we go into the overnight hours and look at where it is along the coast, parts of the north bay reaching into the east bay, and it will be clear away from the fog as we go into the weekend. so you may have a better chance of seeing the meteor shower and it's also going to be clear and sunny for those afternoons. we're already starting out clear as we take a live look outside in the tri valley, and our temperatures are a little bit closer to what's normal for this
6:53 am
time of year in the upper 80s low 90s in the south bay, we'll see highs ranging from 80 to 93. morgan hill, the hottest and in parts of the east bay, will be in the low 90s in the interior east bay. and our 7-day forecast shows temperatures coming down a few degrees after this weekend. next week is looking really nice and even maybe cooler than what's normal for this time of year. while san francisco will be in the upper 60s. and mike, let's check in with the south bay. yeah. where we typically see slowing. of course, it's friday and one of the last fridays of summer for a lot of folks, maybe the first friday of school. for others, we're looking at 101 and 87, a little build here. there is more traffic coming in, judging by a little bit of slowing through san martin, but again, lighter than monday through thursday for the week, everything else moving very smoothly. no major problems. back to you. thank you very much, mike. well happening now. authorities in vienna have made a third arrest in connection with the alleged terror plot canceling three sold out taylor swift concerts. investigators say agents
