moment i crossed the line until now, i feel like i've been living in a dream, the best possible dream. so it's been really exciting and i'm just over the moon. what is the first thought when you cross over the line of an olympian like yourself? i don't know if i had a coherent thought that i can say on camera, but i just i couldn't believe it. i mean, i knew that if i executed my race plan that my coach and i had talked about, it was going to be a good one. it was going to be a fast one. so i just went for it. i knew i had executed my race and i was just like, i'm pretty sure i got silver, i'm pretty sure. but i saw my name up there and i was like, holy crap, i can't believe it. congratulations. all right. so much to enjoy with the olympics. stay with nbc bay area for all your coverage as we give you a live look in paris this friday. all it is starting with a lot of olympic drama and excitement.

houses flooding in south carolina and a possible twister in north carolina as debby is poised to bring heavy rain and more tornadoes to the northeast. new york city workers checking pumps to make sure floodways don't get flooded. >> we should have a small transition to the storm with no issues. >> debby has been deadly. claiming at least seven lives. it's also been destructive, spawning multiple tornadoes, including one in north carolina that killed a man. the threat of tornadoes remains high, along with the risk of flooding. >> this storm is unrelenting and it moves slowly. we haven't seen the worst of it yet. >> rescuers saving these children from a fast-moving creek after one of them called

911. >> it was very scary because i -- i -- the water -- it was just rushing. >> reporter: they worry this type of flooding could become more common as tropical storm drop rivers of rain for days on end. >> if you are watching these images, which are profound and you were thinking that could never be me, you are incorrect. >> reporter: and already you can see some of those winds picking up, the travel headache is already starting this morning. we're already seeing more than 600 delays and more than 100 cancellations. some of those could carry over well into the weekend. all right. al is here with a closer look at what you could expect today and this weekend. >> yes. here's debby. the good news is its forward speed has kicked up. it is moving west. it is 110 miles north of

danville, virginia. but we're worried about tornadoes. all the way to new jersey and down just north of richmond and norfolk. so we're going to be watching this. we have flash flood watches from new england all the way down to savannah. and the risk of severe weather very strong from albany, new york down to philadelphia, baltimore, new york city, washington, d.c. with tornadoes likely in that yellow area. here goes debby racing up through the northeast and into new england. the good news is it ends in new england by morning. rivers and streams still going to remain high, but we will start to see some clearing in western new york on to central pennsylvania. and we are now watching another area down in the atlantic. this is the development zone into puerto rico. in the meantime, next 24 hours, debby is out of our air.

>> about time, too. thank you. turning to the race to the white house. former president trump speaking out at a news conference from florida. we're learning the two will face-off in at least one presidential debate in september. garrett haake covering the trump campaign joins us now. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. these two campaigns who have agreed on almost nothing have agreed to at least that one debate next month in new york city. that was one key development to come out of a lengthy donald trump press conference, making plenty of news on how he answered and avoided the questions that he faced. this morning after weeks of uncertainty, the stage is now set for a presidential debate showdown between vice president harris and former president trump next month. the former president trump announcing he's agreeing to debate against harris on september 10th.

the white house says the two will appear at an event focused on lowering costs. one other news thread to follow from that press conference yesterday, donald trump continuing to play down the issue of abortion, saying he doesn't think it will be a big factor in november and claiming that the majority of americans supported the overturning of roe v. wade. that's something the polling says he's just wrong about. he also suggested that he would be open to banning the key drug used in a medication abortion. that answer also drawing a lot of attention from abortion rights groups as well as from the harris campaign. >> thank you very much. new this morning, there has been another arrest connected to that foiled terror plot against taylor swift's sold-out show in indiana. it led to the cancellation of her concerts, but that hasn't stopped the fans from gathering in the austria capitol. kelly joins us there with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: sheinelle, good

morning to you. yeah, taylor swift set to perform here in london next week. officials assuring her fans it will be safe with yet another arrest overnight in austria. the main suspect didn't have a ticket to her concert in vienna, but planned allegedly to kill as many people as possible outside the arena. ♪ shake it off, shake it off ♪ >> reporter: as taylor swift fans gathered in vienna in the streets instead of the stadium set to hold 65,000 people, one of the targets of an alleged terror plot, authorities releases this picture of the austrian who swore allegiance to isis allegedly saying he had big plans. they found knives, machete, along with blue emergency police lights for a car. they say he fully confessed and planned to run into the crowd, attack fans and later detonate the bomb. police also arrested a

17-year-old who authorities say had recently been fired to provide services at the concert venue are questioning a 15-year-old. and overnight arrested another man, an 18-year-old iraqi citizen. a senior u.s. law official told nbc news the u.s. was first to tip off the austrians about the alleged plot. >> the safety and security of americans overseas is our number one priority. >> concerts have become soft targets with past attacks in 2015. and in 2017, a bomb outside an ariana grande concert in manchester and a shooting at a country music festival in los angeles months later, the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history. in march of this year, more than 140 people were killed when gunman opened fire at a concert in moscow. in response to the threat, all three of swift's sold-out vienna concerts were canceled. but moments of hope after the scare as crowds gathered. and a sweet young man trading friendship bracelets among at

>> of my five for sure. and the people that have been with the company for quite some time will say it is right up there with the london games, which was spectacular a dozen years ago. it's been great top to bottom. paris has been a star. we were unsure if they were able to pull off the opening ceremony behind us two weeks ago. using the city iconic landmarks for all these venues. that beach volleyball is going on right behind us. we could hear crowds behind us all week. a five star job by paris. the olympics needed it. i think paris has helped deliver, along with the athletes, an incredible games. >> well, the athletes have been incredible. i keep joking about it. we just keep winning everything. it's true. the americans have done so, so well. especially the american. we're really seeing that. >> think of all the athletes that have been on the couch with you all this morning. it's an average of 7, 8 medals per day. and, of course, you see it. and track and field is where it's really been shining.

a couple track athletes on here in a little bit. it goes on to the field events as well. it's been so impressive to watch. we have seen over the years the strength of the united states in the pool and gymnastics. and those athletes delivered. and it wasn't just katie ledecky and simone biles. some of the others delivered on the team as well. so the growth of those sports happens because of successful olympics. if you were a young kid watching the swimming and gymnastics and track and field, these olympians really were shining again. >> i mean, the other joy is all the sports you never knew you loved. i'm so into artistic swimming and how about that trampoline situation? it was incredible, mike. have you discovered your new thing? >> well, the table tennis is incredible.

what it is like to be stuck in space. >> they travelled to the international space station back in june. it was supposed to be a ten-day mission. but this morning they're entering day 65 and have been told they may not return until next year. >> february of next year. so for a look at what the astronauts are facing, we want to bring in someone with firsthand experience. a nasa astronaut. he's a veteran of two space flights and now a professor of engineering at columbia university. professor, thanks for being with us. >> thanks for having me. >> first, just the big picture here. i mean, you get sent on this craft, the boeing starliner. and now it's delayed. i mean, is this the right call? how worried would you be if you are an astronaut that you went there and your ride is unable to

return? >> i think the astronauts, if i was up there, i would have confidence in the team in place on the ground making those decisions. there is a lot of dedicated people looking at this both at boeing and nasa. the folks in charge there have been there for decades. as an astronaut, my thoughts would be they're going to make the right decision, whether that means we come back on the starliner or stay in orbit a bit longer and come back with a different ride. so i think they have confidence in the team. >> in the meantime, we're hearing potentially february. what about supplies? do they have enough supplies? i don't know, their clothes. >> good question. yes, they do. they try to think of everything and delays can happen. we did have an astronaut that was going on a six-month mission that turned into a one-year mission. they also have supply ships up there. those can be pretty close to the end of the launch time. if they need extra this or that. so they do have deliveries coming there pretty often. >> how do they shower? i mean, i always try to pack extra underwater, but this is ridiculous. >> running water in space is a problem because it floats and it is a commodity. you do the best you can with a

you manifested it as well. you wrote it in your journal that you were going to medal. you are going to make history, becoming the first american to medal in the triple jump, and you did it. >> yes. >> where did you get the inspiration from? >> honestly, all women in the past that competed in the triple jump. they have been my inspiration, to finally do it for team usa, that has been the goal all along. >> anna, what does it mean to walk away with a medal? >> it's been really hard to put into words. this was a phenomenal meet for me. my whole family is here. my parents, my boyfriend, my brother, my sister, my godfather. it was special to do it in front of them because it's my dream but it's all of our dreams. >> you didn't just win a gold medal but you set a world record in the process.

tell me about this process. >> i think the creative process is sometimes just best when you can let go. i was able to be really present. and i didn't really think that i was making a record. i thought that i was just making some songs with a friend. and we turned around afterwards and liked the way it sounded. and it just worked. >> your tour kicks off in october. you are hitting some of your biggest venues yet. how exciting is that? >> i get to play two nights at madison square garden, which is so insane to me. but i also get to play like the bridge stone arena in nashville where a couple years ago i got to play there with kacey musgraves and harry styles and we had this amazing show. to be able to come back a couple years later and headline it feels really special. >> i love that you are encouraging fans to treat it like it is 1965 and physically go and buy tickets. in fact, you were out selling

good morning. it is 856 on marcus washington. music fans by the thousands heading to golden gate park this weekend. today is the first day of outside lands. some 75,000 fans are expected to attend each day through sunday. now the headliners include the killers tonight, and then we have sabrina carpenter tomorrow and sturgill simpson and post malone closing things out on sunday. now this is just one of several events happening this weekend in the city expecting to draw in huge crowds. city leaders are advising people to avoid driving into the city. if you have to drive, they say, expect a lot of traffic. happening now, our ginger conejero saab is speaking to those fans who are arriving. you can watch it on our alive.
