los angeles this is today in the bay here we are monday morning without the olympics. good morning to you all out there. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia, but still some highlights coming. yes. and a look forward to when the games come to los angeles. here we go. all right. looking forward to a monday morning i don't know that's up to you. let's check the forecast though. the weather is still pretty nice. so i think that makes it easier to get out of bed when you know, it's going to be a really nice day, very comfortable. and it's cool for the at least the start. right now we're in the mid 50s in san francisco, clouds and fog, but it is clear in walnut creek and in palo alto. a few clouds to start. it's now 61 degrees in san jose. and then as we take a look outside in walnut creek, a beautiful start to this monday. it's going to be in the low 60s, and whatever clouds that we're seeing will quickly clear out. and temperatures today for the most part, staying in the 70s,

we don't always get days like this, and we are going to be slightly cooler than what's normal for this date, but we're still hitting some mid to upper 80s in a few spots, so we'll be watching out for warmer temperatures ahead. mike, you've been watching the roads and a few issues popping up. yeah, the bay bridge had a big backup early on because of a car fire that was reported on the incline. the backup quickly filled in the toll plaza, and i believe they slowed the metering lights down for a bit. they may be speeding them up now, because in the last minute and a half i've seen all lanes cleared. now moving smoothly into san francisco. the earlier car fire was on the right shoulder here on the incline. again, there's recovery to happen at the bay bridge as the build comes in. so we'll see how that shakes out. timing is critical as far as the rest of the contra costa and alameda county is coming in toward that focus. everything else is pretty standard. back to you. all right. thank you very much, mike. well, in just a few hours, tens of thousands of kids will be headed back to school in oakland. and that's where nbc bay area's bob redell joins us live. bob, the district's debuting some new electric busses to try to help move things forward. correct. good

morning. laura. oakland unified is the first school district in the united states to go fully electric with its 74 new school busses. these are being provided by a school transportation company based in redwood city. that company is called zoom. zoom and oakland unified will also pilot a new program in which the power stored in the batteries of those ev busses will be sold back to the california electrical grid, just like we do with the excess power generated by our solar panels at home. so when the busses are plugged in back at their base instead of the one way charge in the vehicle, the school busses will be able to send their battery power back to the grid through zoom's charging infrastructure. they call this bidirectional charging. a zoom estimates that 2.1gw hours of electricity of energy can be sent back from the batteries to the california grid. now, we recently spoke with someone with zoom. they tell us that school busses are not keeping up with

downtown and in the mission district and napa up to 84 today, and 90 in ukiah, in mill valley, some low 70s. so you can see our temperatures are still kind of all over the place, but our valleys have been pretty warm by the end of the week. we are expecting some significant cooling, a change in our weather pattern from the end of the weekend, and possibly extending into next week. but as we take a look at walnut creek, we are still looking at some very mild weather for much of the week and for this time of year. this is right on target for what's normal for the beginning to middle of august and our temperatures just going up and down just slightly. so nothing really significant here, but it will be slightly cooler again for the weekend. and in san francisco we're in the mid to upper 60s one day up to 70. we'll see that with the peak of the temperatures on wednesday. mike, do we have another issue on the bay bridge? heard about something. thought it was going to be a major issue. but we're looking at the live look. we do see the incline moving smoothly.
