good morning. it is saturday, august 17th and you're waking up to a live look at a pretty shaded walnut creek. some gloomy weather this morning. we'll check in with cynthia later to tell you how long it lasts. good morning everyone. i'm bigad shaban in for kira klapper and cynthia is here with a look at our microclimate forecast. hey,
7:02 am
cynthia. good morning. bigad. good morning everyone. yeah, that marine layer is stretching during the morning stretch out towards walnut creek and the valleys. we're also noticing a bit gloomier skies out in livermore. mostly the temperatures in the 50s and 60s and san francisco. that cloud deck is covering the city skyline. the reason for this is take a look at your screen. we have this counterclockwise rotation here, bringing some showers just to our north and also for the pacific northwest. so the things that you'll notice today as you step out the door or maybe not, it's a little bit of a sleeping kind of sleeping in kind of whether you're going to notice those that cloud cover remaining the breeze picking up, and the chance of that rain trickling in through parts of the north bay. yes, that return and the chance is there but a bit more clearer weather and some milder temperatures are in store for sunday and beyond, so i'll be back with all those details coming up in a few minutes. back to you. all right, cynthia, we will see you then. tiny homes in the south bay used to house the homeless could soon

be bought up and used for something totally different. but as today in the bay's jocelyn moran found out, the idea is controversial. i said, this is so overwhelming and my head is spinning. issa angelone is the president of safer san jose. he says during a virtual neighborhood meeting with the county, they were told of its plans to take over the emergency interim housing site on bernal and monterey road. santa clara county has put in an $8 million offer to purchase that site, as well as a permanent supportive housing site on vermont street from the city of san jose. we were defrauded. we felt like we got kicked in the gut and this isn't the way you operate. you have drug abuse, mentally ill, and you're roaming around in the neighborhood. i mean, that's 80 people or 78 people. here's how the county says it would work. the 78 bed site on monterey road wouldn't immediately convert into a jail diversion program. it would be done in phases starting in november. those who live there now would work with the city and county to find other locations to live in. or they could participate in the jail diversion program. the

voluntary program, and this would be for individuals that are receiving treatment and support. gaby olivares works within the behavioral health services department with the county. she says the site operator would remain the same. there would be 24 hour security, as well as services like case managers and therapists. it can be like the first time arrest somebody agreed to do treatment. it can be somebody that's coming out of our local county jail and has agreed to participate. she says the goal is to reduce incarceration rates and promote public safety. but residents say there needs to be more discussion around this before anything is decided. i need a chance to understand and the community needs a chance to understand the details. the city council has to vote on this. this was supposed to be discussed on august 27th, but the mayor's office says the city manager decided to delay that vote to give the city and county a chance to get on the same page. jocelyn moran, nbc, bay area news. and a statewide crackdown on crime. governor newsom has approved harsher
