good morning, i'm richard lui. it was an emotional night, one for the democratic national convention. president biden was the keynote speaker. the night full of tributes to the outgoing president, with the crowd erupting into chants of "we love joe,", and "thank you joe." >> she's tough, and she has enormous integrity. her story represents the best american story. and like many of our best presidents, she was also vice president. that's a joke. >> vice president harris was also in attendance last night. and she made an unexpected appearance on stage where she gave her own brief remarks, praising president biden. nbc's brie jackson is there in

news. now the dnc got off to a delayed start in part because of protesters a few blocks away. police telling our chicago station that four people were arrested after protesters tore down part of a bearrier. the demonstrations were largely peaceful. an estimated 6,000 people marched through chicago's west side, demanding vice president harris commit to a cease-fire in gaza and an end to the united states' support of israel. protesters say if those demands are not met, the democrats cannot count on their votes. well, for the first time, u.s. intelligence officials are confirming that iran was behind attempts to hack both presidential campaigns. the trump campaign first accused iran of hacking earlier this month. meanwhile, google alleged that hackers in iran targeted the biden-harris campaign before biden stepped aside. however, it's unclear if that campaign was indeed breached. federal officials say iran seized both campaigns as

important targets, accusing iran of additional activity, including pfishing emails sent to trump allies like roger stone. secretary of state antony blinken saying now that israel has accepted a new cease-fire proposal, aimed at bridging differences between israel and hamas. blinken said the onus is now on hamas to accept the proposal and then move quickly to finalize details. it is not clear what is actually in this bridging proposal, but hamas has previously accused israel of adding unacceptable new conditions, including no full withdrawal from gaza. talks are set to resume in egypt later this week, but hamas said its representatives will not attend. there is an urgent search under way this morning after a luxury yacht sanctk offer the co off the coast of sicily.

one person is dead, six people are missing. let's go live to italy where claudio lavanga is following the developments for us. what do we know? >> reporter: good morning, richard. the search for those sink x peo who are still missing resumed early in the morning offer the coast of sicily where the yacht sank. so far, they only managed to retrieve one body and also confirmed, as you mention, that there is at least one american missing. in the meantime, authorities are trying to understand how is it possible that a 183-foot super yacht managed to overturn and sink in a matter of minutes. now eyewitnesses said that on monday morning at about 5:00 in the morning, the area just off the coast of sicily where the yacht was anchored near the city of palermo, was battered by storms and also waterspouts. after that storm passed, a few minutes later, the boat was just

simply not there anymore. now the 15 people who ended up in the water were rescued almost immediately by a yacht that was anchored nearby, including a british woman with her 1-year-old baby. she said they were sleeping in the cabin when all of a sudden the yacht overturned, and they found themselves in the water. now a source close to, familiar with the matter, told, or confirmed to cnbc, that among those missing is mike lynch, a british tech entrepreneur, who's often been branded in british media as britain's bill gates. last year he was extradited to the united states to stand trial on charges of corruption after he sold his company to hewlett-packard. he was acquitted of all charges a couple months ago, literally the beginning of june. now he's believed to be one of the six people who are still missing. >> claudio, thank you very much for the latest on that breaking story. four suspects have been charged in the killing of general hospital actor johnny wactor, we're learning.

police say the 37-year-old was gunned down in may after interrupting a catalytic converter theft of his car in los angeles. robert barselo and sergio estrada, who were both 18 were charged with murder and attempted robbery and grand theft. barselo's has an added exception. two others remain in custody facing lesser counts. we're going to turn to the catastrophic flood emergency in the northeast as heavy rain battered new jersey, new york and connecticut. at least three people died, including two in the hard-hit town of oxford, connecticut, after being swept away by raging floodwaters. some 10 inches fell in 12 hours. and in danbury, homes and businesses were threatened by

and tallahassee. we end up into the low 90s for tampa. some of these spots are typical temperatures. but across parts of the south. places like santa fe, you're going to be running 10 degrees above normal. milder air across the great lakes and midwest. that's where you can find the 70s. these temperatures cooler than typical for this time of year. dallas set to hit 100 degrees. 95 for lake charles and into the low 90s for panama city. milder conditions will last but get degrees in phoenix, and oklahoma city hits 92 degrees. and that's a look at your forecast. back to you. >> ang ji angie, thanks.
