task, of letting voters know what she stands for by focussing on her past. she talked about her childhood and especially about the lessons she learned from her mother, who emigrated to the u.s. at age is the of 19 from india. she pledged to work to restore reproductive rights, to offer a tax cut to the middle class and end the housing shortage. and she says she would bring back the bipartisan border bill. the vice president also gave several warnings about what she says a second trump term could look like. >> consider the power he will have, especially after the united states supreme court just ruled that he would be immune from criminal prosecution. just imagine donald trump with

room. >> reporter: there's no doubt that democrats were super energized by this convention over the past four days. the question now is whether they can turn all of that momentum into cold hard votes in november. frances? >> alice barr, thank you. donald trump hoped to bring attention away from chicago and to the southern border. he spoke about his call for stronger border policies in the shadow of arizona's border wall. garrett haake asked mr. trump about the nbc news reporting that he's expected to get an endorsement from robert f. kennedy jr. today. >> reporter: what role would he have either with your campaign or in your administration? >> well, i don't want to get too much into it, because you're telling me something i don't know, other than i've always been friendly with him. if he were to endorse me, i would consider it a great honor. >> that's despite all the things he said about vaccines, 9/11 conspiracies, would that reflect

upon you if you put him in your administration? >> no, it doesn't mean administration, but certainly having his endorsement, things that he assupports i also agree on. >> the campaign has already filed paperwork to withdraw from the race there. donald trump will continue campaigning in arizona today as well. in arkansas, the state supreme court blocking a petition to bring abortion rights to the voters this november. the court ruling it all comes down to paperwork. advocates did get more than 100,000 signatures to put abortion rights on the ballot. but last month, the secretary of state rejected the effort for not following rules on paid signature gatherers. the state justices upheld that rejection, meaning arkansas' near total ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest will stand for now. ukrainian drones struck a military airfield in russia. part of kiev's expanding wave of

strikes inside enemy territory. the regional governor said the attack was repelled, but a massive fire broke out at a defense ministry facility. our erin mclaughlin has this report. >> reporter: new video shows a critical ferry terminal, which helps connect mainland russia to occupied crimea on fire. russian officials blame kiev. so far, no comment from the ukrainians. the ukrainian air force released footage of another attack on russia. pointedly saying it shows a u.s.-made bomb being dropped on russian platoon based in the kursk region. volodymyr zelenskyy, the closest he's been to kursk since ukraine's surprise invasion. he says he wants the region to become a buffer zone on russian soil to help protectmajor ukrainian cities to the east, including kharkiv, where we saw first hand how in recent months the russians have been relentlessly bombing civilians, including this shopping mall.

now investors would also like to have an indication of by how much the fed is going to cut rates. however, jerome powell is unlikely to go that far today. nonetheless, at this stage, experts suggest we will see a 25-basis-point cut in september. but one of the key questions at this stage is what is going to happen between september and the end of the year. by how much will interest rate changes happen during that process. i also want to take you to canada. we are monitoring the development out of canada this morning. with freight trains actually on track to be running again in the coming days. this after government intervention that basically sent both sides of the argument into final binding arbitration. this is important for u.s. consumers as well. because canada exports 75% of their goods to the u.s. mostly by train. >> yeah, it would be a major disruption.

thank you. the united states postal service is proposing a plan to slow down mail delivery in rural areas in an attempt to save money. postmaster louis dejoy said the changes are expected to take place next year and are necessary for the service to operate more efficiently. the delivery time for 75% of first class mail would not be affected. the tsa is gearing up for what's expected to be the busiest labor day travel period on record. they expect to screen more than 17 million passengers from august 29 to september 4. 8.5% higher than the same time last year. the top ten busiest travel days have all happened since may of this year. turning to this summer's massive covid surge, the fda has approved updated mrna vaccines that could be available in a matter of days.
