7:10 am
don't know her. then she did late out her vision for the future. what was notable was it was largely built on the biden agenda. what she didn't do is lay out where she might differ from president biden. but notably, savannah, she cast herself very carefully as someone who was moderate, so that could potentially reach out to some of the moderate independents who were critical with this election. >> it did seem like that, as a former prosecutor literally. she used sometimes legal language in making the case against donald trump, he is explicit in contempt in doing this and talking tough on immigration, for example. >> it was making the case explicitly for herself as well. she talked about some of these issues, immigration. she talked about israel and t w against donald trump. it was making the case gaza. and she looked right into the camera and she said, i'm for all of america, democrats and also republicans and independents. broaden the number of people that will come into the tent and vote for kamala harris.
7:11 am
look back to hillary clinton in 2016 who leaned into the idea that she could break a glass ceiling if she were to become the first woman to become president. for kamala harris, it's more, she's with you. we're not talking about the historical nature of her candidacy because this race is not about kamala harris. >> she is not mentioning that at the media says that and makes that note, but she is not the one who is necessarily driving an aspect of her candidacy. >> in some ways she's making the point that she doesn't have to because it is spread throughout her entire message. think about the messages we saw this week, for example, from former first lady michelle obam. think about the messages we heard this week, f who talked about her powerful, strong mother. from barack obama who talked about his grandmother, who made the case that it's women that built this country, the values, the ideals.
7:12 am
at the same time, there is another part of that strategy, savannah, such as what hallie is saying, which is basically to try to reach out to a broader swath of people, to make people comfortable with voting for her because of the case she laid out tonight. >> well, she said to peter alexander who shaw grabbed her and she got an exclusive interview there. but 75 days to go and hard work starts now and a debate september 10th. >> picking a vice president, this debate prep now, we understand she's already held at least one mock session. we know former president trump is also preparing as well. that will be her next big profile moment. >> go grab a nap. we will see you on "meet the press" on sunday. kristin will sit down with republican vice presidential nominee j.d. vance and democratic senator elizabeth warren. for the moment, back to you, hoda. >> thank you so much.
