i'm frances rivera. the justice department is trying to revive a litegal battle agait donald trump. special counsel jack smith is asking an appeals court to re reinstate the classified documents case. the former president was accused of illegally taking classified documents to mar-a-lago, including store ing them in a bathroom. the judge dismissed the case last month. the doj is calling her reasoning nonsensical. the trump campaign may also be looking for a dismissal of the presidential debate. the former president is raising doubts about whether he will show up while the harris campaign asks for a change to a rule about muting microphones. here's garrett haake with more.

citizens to apply for green cards without leaving the u.s. 16 republican-led states sued it stop the program, leading the eastern district of texas to temporarily halt it while considering the lawsuit. they can still apply, but the applications will not be processed until the stay is lifted. u.s. army private who ran into north korea last year will plead guilty to desertion as part of the plea agreement. travis king was stationed in south korea when he crossed the dmz into the north. he was imprisoned in north korea for 48 days before he was released. king will plead guilty to five of the 14 offenses he was originally charged with. the rest will be dismissed. he'll be sentenced before a military court at fort bliss on september 20th. russia launched several missiles and drones targeting several ukrainian cities, including the capital kiev, officials say.

it comes just one day after one of the biggest barrages of the war so far targeting ukrainian infrastructure and killing at least seven. and at least four more people were killed in the most recent assault. for the latest, let's go to claudio lavanga who's following developments for us. what more do we know? >> reporter: good morning, frances. we don't know yet, today by russia in c for instance, how many weapons were used today by russia in craine. bukraine, but the area force recorded at least several groups of drones in the area, and intercepters that took off from russian airfields. now the air sirens rang out for several hours overnight in several regions in ukraine, including kiev, where officials there say the attack wiped out, literally, and i quote, a hotel, qui killing at least two people there, injuring at least four

and leaving five other people trapped under the rubble. then another two people, according to officials, also died in a nearby city of zaporizhzhia. this comes a day after russia pounded ukraine with at least 200 mifrlssiles and drones that killed at least seven people and damaged seriously the infrastructure there, leaving a lot of people without electricity and water. this seems to be a tactic that russia applies to the war almost every year in the fall to leave as many people without heating when they need it the most. the air force commander called the attack the most massive since the start of the war while president biden called it simply outrageous. >> claudio, thank you. a community in alaska is on edge after part of their town was buried. ketchikan is a popular spot for
