investors while it made more money than it expected, they were not the blowout results that nvidia is famous for. they had really great results instead of amazing results. yelp, meantime, has filed a lawsuit against google accusing the search giant of hijacking traffic at the top of search results. now, yelp has been accusing google of this for years, but this new suit comes right after google lost an antitrust case brought to it by the government and yelp smelling an opportunity. a lot of news about social media. a real sea change. all the sudden courts are holding social media platforms responsible for what users post. that's really never happened before. we start with the tragic loss of what you might find in their phones or the things they try that you think ten year olds wouldn't tr. they're trying because they're kids and they don't know no better. a federal appeals court in lawsuit against tiktok,
6:16 am
saying tiktok must stand trial for the death of a ten year old nylah anderson, who tried to copy one of those challenges in her feed. it's one of several incidents, instances this week of courts holding platforms at least partially responsible for what users post, and that's not how it worked in the past. in the past, social networks were immune from those kinds of accusations. the same way the post office isn't responsible for a nasty letter you send and the phone company is not responsible for, say, you planning a crime over the phone. social media companies have been using that for decades to try to say, we're not responsible for what's on our platform. we may profit off of it, but we're not responsible for it in any way. and what evacuated its executives out of brazil after a court there said those executives could be jailed for what users say on x. now, the
6:17 am
brazilian supreme court issuing this order throughout the country. we've reached out to x for more comment. and it's not just x, it's not just tiktok. we told you about the arrest of the head of telegram in france, again accused of various crimes based on what users posted, not what he posted. pavel durov, now officially charged with, among other things, child sexual abuse and allowing that child sexual abuse. rather, i shouldn't say and drug trafficking allowing that to go through the social network telegram, also used by political activists trying to avoid censorship like activists in china. it's also how the ukrainians get all those messages through to the rest of the world. again, you know, this needs to be decided by the various world courts, but it's important to understand, just in the last week, this idea that the platforms somehow responsible brand new idea. yeah, whole new world. yes. all right. thanks, scott. you bet. 607. now, this is great news, at

least for us. morning folks. new research says catching up on sleep on the weekends may come with some added health benefits. in fact, sleeping in on the weekends may significantly decrease the risk of heart disease. research by european society of cardiology congress in london found people who got the most sleep on the weekend were 19% less likely to develop heart disease. a recent gallup poll found only 42% ofood to kne it evens out the lack of sleep we get during the week. well, trending this morning, rapper ludacris is sparking some concerns after what some perceived as outlandish behavior while he was in alaska for a show. he actually made a stop near a glacier, drank some of the water. i've never tasted
6:19 am
fresh glacial water ever in my life, and this is a first. here we go. well, there you see it right there. he's going to drink some of that water, so he got millions of views on social media. but some of those viewers were concerned about potential bacteria in the water, saying that he could have endangered his life. however, a glacier expert told the associated press that view concerns were just ludicrous and what he did was just fine. they say that the melted glacier water is the cleanest water you'll ever get. so let's head to alaska. get some water. yeah, yeah. now they're going to have people copying that. yeah. okay. well, not anytime soon. we're going to stay right here in the bay area. finally temperatures cooling a little bit. yeah cooling a little bit for the inland valleys. it's going to stay about the same for san francisco. some of our coastal areas have been pretty mild. so that's what we're seeing this morning as we see the low clouds that will linger throughout the morning and possibly into part of the afternoon for some of the city, but for the inland areas, the cooler weather is coming back with some breezy winds and
6:20 am
morning clouds and mild weather for our labor day weekend. now next week, the heat will ramp back up right on tuesday as more people are heading back to work and school, but today it's still a little bit closer to normal for this time of year. we're up to 84 in milpitas, as well as san jose, 88 in los gatos, and we're seeing upper 80s for gilroy today and much of the east bay in the 80s and even a few low 90s. we're still up to 92 in antioch today, while oakland stays in the 70s with a breezy wind and 72 in san mateo, daly city at 69 today and low 70s for the mission district, the outer sunset in the upper 60s and 84 for mill valley and up to 99 in ukiah. if you're going to the coast in the north bay, it's going to be very comfortable with low 70s compared to what we're seeing elsewhere. there's been some really extreme heat for the labor day weekend, especially across the south. when you see those temperatures in the 90s, you also have to factor in the humidity, and the heat index has
6:21 am
been causing a lot of issues going well over 100 degrees. but we're going to see some real triple digits here going into next week. and an inland area like brentwood, parts of the delta, we'll see highs in the upper 80s low 90s for sunday into labor day. but then on tuesday those temperatures spike and reach a high of 103 degrees. on wednesday, as that high pressure returns across the region. so our little dip in temperatures does not last that long. it will only be a few degrees for some spots, but i think we'll take it at this point because it's been such a hot summer and we know that we will have more heat ahead for the middle of next week for san francisco, it's staying mild upper 70s. our upper 60s, low 70s, and we're up to 80 degrees next wednesday. now cynthia, you have two crashes in the east bay and they are in the same location, 880 southbound right through hayward. we're looking at the stretch of this traffic back into san lorenzo. so this
6:22 am
is people are trying to make their way either onto the san mateo bridge. you're going to come across two crashes. the first one right there at tennyson road offramp. so this is just past the southland mall. and then the other one that's been going on for about an hour and a half now is the one around industrial, where they are trying to clear that debris. the sensors have changed a little bit into that orange color, not the red. so it is starting to lighten up just a little bit. if you do have to get around this, you could take 238 or maybe call it a workday from home, or maybe some distance learning. you take your pick on this thursday, we'll go over to the altamont pass. it is slow, about a 25 minute ride to get yourself out of tracy and over on into livermore and the greater bay area. and speaking of the greater bay area, it is looking pretty calm at this hour. let's check in on one more spot if we have time now. richmond san rafael bridge, you are looking at a bit of a build up now as you get through the east bay on into marin county. it should be about an 11 minute ride. once you do make it on the span into san rafael, back to you. looks good. thanks, cynthia. well,

6:32 am
seeing as we start out this morning with a live look outside in dublin. and we are going to see in spots like pleasant hill, a few early clouds, but then clearing out as our temperatures go from upper 50s at 7:00 to 10:00, temperature of 68 degrees into the low 80s by 1:00. so you can see it still will be a warm day. and we are going to see some upper 80s low 90s into the east bay, as well as the south county, and then near the coast will be in the upper 60s for this afternoon. now, cynthia, you're tracking a crash in cocoa county. yeah, we are looking at it in antioch. and this is the commute direction. westbound highway four at the hillcrest avenue onramp. there's not too many details yet, but we do know that there could be a hazard there in the number three lane. after you get past this crash scene here, you are still going to be met with some pretty heavy traffic getting your way through pittsburg bay point and into concord. let's go over to the san mateo bridge. there was a crash reported around the toll plaza westbound direction. the report said they were tailgating

too close. so just remember, keep your distance from other cars to the right of your screen. you see the other two crashes we've been following through the morning in hayward southbound 80. right after you get south through the southland mall. the traffic has been backed up to san lorenzo for almost an hour and a half now. i'll take a look at the rest of the bay area and report back in a few minutes. back to you. all right. thanks, cynthia. well, crews are still working this morning to fully contain a brush fire in the north bay. this is burning near petaluma on old adobe and taurasi lane. now, cal fire says that the gulch fire has scorched 20 acres and started yesterday afternoon. about three outbuildings and one other structure. there now destroyed. at last check, the fire is 40% contained. so far there's no word on what sparked it. and it's those fires that are very concerning led to a lot of increases in insurance rates. another major blow this morning for people trying to make it in the bay. allstate announcing it's raising its rates for homeowners insurance today in

the bay's bob redell joining us live from livermore. and bob, how much more can policyholders expect to pay here? marcus and laura. allstate has been given the green light to raise its rates on average by 34%. this would be there for their homeowners insurance. so if you are an allstate customer and you're curious how much you're going to see your rates go up, you will find out on your next renewal notice. the california department of insurance gave allstate permission to do this. allstate, by the way, is the state's sixth largest home owner. home insurer, and they would be having more than 350,000 policyholders here in the state that could be impacted. this, by the way, is the largest rate hike in three years by a major insurance carrier here. the 34% again, is the average. some could see a lesser increase, others more. it depends on where you live. homeowners in areas of high fire risk, like rural parts here in the east bay, the hills of santa

be in the mid 70s and throughout the weekend. it's going to be nice, really comfortable with a mix of sun and clouds and then checking out our last performance for the season for music in the square in redwood city, expected to be in the mid 70s for tomorrow evening. at the time that the music begins, and then dipping down into the mid 60s, we've got you covered. i'm looking ahead to next week's forecast as well. that's in a few minutes and cynthia has a look at the roads. yeah. here in the bay area lots of people going to head to our lakes. of course the beaches and up into tahoe. so 80 and 50 will both be busy. just remember to take it nice and slow giving of space and just be nice to each other out on the roadways so that we can all make it to where we need to go and where we're getting. we do have one two events to let you know of giants and marlins. this will be tomorrow night at oracle 7.15 first pitch. so expect some traffic as you make your approach to the bay bridge. of course off of 101 and to 80. then on saturday, also in the

i'll say what city hall insiders won't. we have a drug, homelessness, and economic recovery crisis, because the system that's supposed to fix things is the problem. record budgets. fewer officers. business killing bureaucracy. the insiders won't change a system built for their benefit. i'm daniel lurie and san francisco needs a mayor unafraid to take on the status quo, bring accountability, and stop the excuses.

the governor of utah, who accompanied donald trump in that photo at arlington national cemetery on monday. that's right. scott mcgrew joins us now. governor spencer cox said what they did was not supposed to be part of a campaign ad. exactly. and that's what the trump campaign is saying as well. it maintains this was not
6:46 am
a campaign ad to remind you. on monday, trump and cox and some family members of at least two marines killed in the final days of the occupation of afghanistan took photographs and video at the headstones of those marines at arlington national cemetery. here is one of those pictures a thumbs up from former president trump. governor cox is standing at the far, far right of the photograph with his hands behind his back. cox posted this picture to social media, and then donald trump posted a tiktok, and then they took over that disaster. the leaving of afghanistan. now, we now know from both the trump campaign and the cemetery, a u.s. official tried to step in and stop this photography at the site called area 60, citing federal laws and cemetery rules. the trump campaign insists it had permission to shoot pictures and video, and that they were there
6:47 am
at the invitation of the families to be at the grave sites. the problem is the family can't give permission to violate cemetery rules. in a statement, governor cox said of the picture he posted, quote, this was not a campaign event, was never intended to be used by the campaign. it did not go through the proper channels and should not have been sent. my campaign will be sending out an apology. the incident is evocative of the situation. joint chiefs of staff mark milley found himself in. he was asked to accompany president trump on a walk across lafayette square, which turned into a photo op. milley later apologized to his fellow members of the military. i should not have been there. my presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics. as a commissioned, uniformed officer, it was a mistake. trump did not campaign yesterday, but his running mate jd vance stumped in both pennsylvania and wisconsin,
6:48 am
and he was asked about the confrontation between campaign staffers and the cemetery official three years ago. 13 brave, innocent americans died, and they died because kamala harris refused to do her job. and there hasn't been a single investigation or a single firing. now, indeed, there is an ongoing investigation into the failures around the bombing at abbey gate, though mark milley, the same mark milley acknowledges it's taking too long. also vice presidents hold no military authority whatsoever. they can no more give a command to a general than you or i can. harris and her running mate, governor tim walz, will be interviewed on cnn tonight at six. harris's first sit down interview since she became the democratic nominee for president, and the supreme court has blocked president biden's revised plan to forgive some student loans. the save plan is essentially dead, though, for now, until there's a final, final decision, interest rates are still on hold. if the

court agrees with the republican state attorneys general who want to block the forgiveness, then the interest will click back in and your student loans. marcus, those payments will go up. thankfully, i paid mine off. all right. thanks, scott. well, long covid, more specifically, chronic fatigue syndrome will be the focus of a special hearing today in the south bay, santa clara county supervisor simitian hosting that hearing. he's also the chair of the county's health and hospital committee. several south bay medical experts. they will be on hand to try to tackle the symptoms of long covid. we're talking about fatigue, dizziness and pain. that hearing takes place at 2:00 this afternoon at the county government center in san jose. well, new at six. the a's already appear to be bringing the boom to their future temporary home in sacramento, at least when it comes to surrounding business. before the team ever arrives, the west sacramento area is seeing a resurgence in restaurant and housing development. one business owner is now in the

process of turning the ground level of a nearby building into a future dining spot. the a's announced they were coming here in march, and that expedited the timeline to get a contract in place and move faster on construction. the a's plan to play in sacramento from 2025 to 2027. they're still hoping to move into their new permanent home to begin that 2028 season. and from the a's to the b's. remember the oakland ballers recent offer to own a piece of the bay area's new minor league baseball team? well, apparently it was a big hit for fans. the ballers now say last week they raised more than $1 million in investments from more than 1600 fans. that's pretty cool. well, 20 for you this morning. gamestop is looking to hit the pause button amid its financial woes. we're talking about taking things back a little bit here, back to when you were actually

you know this mom, we may be listening to some of that music on the road this weekend long holiday weekend, but we know you have to get to work this morning. so here's a look at what you're stepping out the door to in redwood city. it's in the low 60s and it's cloudy with a light wind. we are going to see it clearing out as we go into the next couple of hours. a nice cool morning. but then as we go throughout the day, gradually warming up. but what you'll notice today is it won't be as hot as it was in some of our valleys, but we're still going to be in the upper 80s and morgan hill 88, in los gatos and san jose, up to 84 degrees. much of the east bay. we're going to see high, a high of 80 in hayward, 84 in martinez and 90 in walnut creek. but it's going to be in the low 90s in just a few spots near the coast. we're dropping those temperatures even more so half moon bay. we'll see the temperature up to 68 degrees 72 in san mateo and in palo alto, 82 degrees low 70s in the
6:53 am
mission district and in the marina district, 68 degrees today, novato, 85 and 99, in ukiah. when we compare that to what we're seeing elsewhere, i know you may be packing a bag and heading somewhere. we've had some extreme heat across parts of the south, and when you add in the humidity. well, the heat index has been an issue over 100 degrees across much of the south. but we do see that cold front that will be making its way farther off towards the east, dropping those temperatures here. we do have a slight cooldown in our forecast, and in gilroy we're going to see upper 80s, but then a nice mild weekend and then look at next week. it's going to be hot once again with some mid 90s coming back as we're going back to work on tuesday. so we do have a few days with a slight dip in temperatures in the inland areas with mid 80s, and then looking at san francisco, it will remain in the 70s for highs and then slightly warmer for the middle of next week. now cynthia, you're seeing some issues
