vote today that could make him the sixth house member ever to be expelled. and arrested and booked. nfl star von miller surrenders to police. what he's accused of doing to his pregnant girlfriend. good morning, and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we start with that breaking news out of the middle east. the week-long truce between israel and hamas is over. smoke could be seen rising in the sky over gaza this morning as israel announced its fighter jets have resumed hitting hamas targets. the jewish state accused the terror group of failing to release all the kidnapped women and firing rockets toward israel. hamas released eight more hostages yesterday, bringing the total number of hostages freed to more than 100, in exchange for 240 palestinian prisoners. and the "new york times" is reporting that israeli officials obtained hamas' battle plan for the october attack more than a year before it happened but dismissed the plan as

aspirational, considering it too difficult for hamas to carry out. shanelle kaul is following all of the developments for us now from new york. good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning, anne-marie. despite international efforts to extend that cease-fire, the truth is now over with israel dropping leaflets in southern gaza warning residents there to leave, signaling a widening offensive. rockets in the night sky over northern gaza gave way to billowing smoke this morning as israel resumed its strikes against hamas. secretary of state antony blinken taking off from tel aviv after pushing to extend the pause. during a visit, blinken met with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and other leaders, also traveling to the west bank to meet palestinian leader mahmoud abbas. >> we will not stop working until we get every hostage back home with their families and loved ones. >> reporter: yesterday eight more hostages were released

after the cease-fire was extended for a seventh day. among them a 21-year-old french woman, mia shem, who had this emotional reunion after more than 50 days in captivity. another group of 30 prisoners was released into the west bank yesterday, though earlier clashes broke out between the crowd waiting for their arrival and israeli defense forces. in jerusalem members of the orthodox jewish community joined the funeral procession for a 73-year-old rabbi who was one of at least three people killed when two palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop yesterday. >> i loved very much. he was my best friend. >> reporter: according to police, off-duty soldiers and an armed civilian shot and killed the two suspected shooters. hamas has claimed responsibility for the incident saying it was in response to what it calls the crimes of israel. the u.s. has condemned that bus stop attack, calling it a heinous terrorist attack. several others were wounded

including two americans. anne-marie? >> all right, shanelle kaul in new york. thank you. and now to washington where disgraced republican george santos could become the sixth congressman ousted from the house today. up until today's expected expulsion vote, santos has reminded defiant, accusing his fellow house members of bullying him. scott macfarlane reports even if santos is booted, his problems are far from over. i'm not trying to be arrogant -- >> reporter: on the eve of a vote to expel embattled new york republican george santos, his colleagues blistered him. >> george santos has built his persona, his personal and political life on a foundation of lies. >> reporter: santos refuses to go quietly. are you reconsidering resigning? >> no, i'm not, scott. >> reporter: to avoid spectacle?

swarmed at a news conference outside the capitol, he argued he's the victim of political bullying. >> it's theater for the cameras. it's theater for the microphones. >> reporter: it's some of his fellow republicans leading the charge to boot him. he's not running for re-election, why not let him finish his term? >> we are to govern ourselves, and he has manufactured an entire persona to defraud voters of the honest choice to have a representative. >> reporter: santos has pleaded not guilty to federal fraud and conspiracy charges, accused of fleecing his donors, using their credit cards and more than $40,000 of purchases. and a damning house ethics review found he allegedly used campaign cash for botox, resort trips, and rent. santos refused to comment but said his expulsion would enflame an already gridlocked congress. >> it's going to be a circus moving forward. >> reporter: leaders of both parties say they won't twist political arms. are you urging your fellow democrats to vote one way or another tomorrow? >> we recognize that this is an issue of conscience.

>> reporter: congressman santos would be only the sixth person ever to be expelled from the u.s. house. for that to happen, two-thirds of those voting would have to vote yes to expel him. it's unclear how many people will show up on a friday to actually vote, but supporters of this measure say they're confident they have the votes. scott macfarlane, cbs news, the capitol. a new york appeals court reinstated a gag order barring donald trump from making public comments about court staff in his state civil fraud trial. judge arthur engoron imposed the gag order in october after trump posted a derogatory comment about a court clerk on social media. a panel of judges temporarily stayed the order last month as it considered trump's request to have it lifted. engoron says that he will now enforce the gag order vigorously. buffalo bills linebacker von miller turned himself in

to police near dallas to face a domestic violence charge. an arrest warrant was issued for miller after he allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend on wednesday. police say miller put his hands on the woman's neck, pulled out a chunk of her hair, and threw her on the couch. she was treated for minor injuries. miller was freed after posting $5,000 bond. so we are learning new details about the shooting of three palestinian college students in burlington, vermont, nearly a week ago. cbs' erroll barnett spoke with one of the victims and his mother about what happened. i was speaking ara-bish, a mix of arabic and english. he without hesitation went down the stairs, pulled out a firearm pistol, and started shooting. >> reporter: kinnan abdalhamid says he ran for his life fearing his childhood friends might be dead. >> first shot went i believe to his chest. and i heard the thud on the ground and him start screaming. while i was running, i heard the second pistol shot. i heard him fall on the group.

>> reporter: what else is going through your mind at that moment? >> honestly, it was so surreal that i couldn't really think. it was like a fight or flight. i didn't know i was shot until a minute later. i felt this extreme spike of pain. i put my hand where the pain was, and then i looked at it and it was soaked in blood. i was like holy [ bleep ] i was shot. >> reporter: the 20-year-old student knocked on a neighbor's door who called 911, then relying on his emt training and knowing he needed help fast, he asked police to rush him to the hospital. once there, he asked -- >> i was like, are my friends alive? are they alive? and then they were able to ask and told me that's when i was really a lot more relieved -- a lot better mental state. >> reporter: his mother traveled from jerusalem to vermont after the shooting. >> and honestly, honestly, until now feel like there's nowhere safe for palestinians. if he can't be safe here, where on earth are we supposed to put

few days around elliott bay. members of the whale safety group have been shadowing the young whale to make sure it's swimming away from any vessels. why the so-called doomsday mom was moved to arizona, and a high-profile murder in l.a. is under investigation. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "los angeles times" reports a hollywood marketing consultant was shot and killed inside his home. the victim, 33-year-old michael latt, his company, lead with love, worked to elevate black creatives in hollywood. latt was shot in the head allegedly by a woman who forced her way into his home in l.a. the suspect is accused of stalking one of latt's friends. she's being held on $3 million bail. "the arizona republic" says a woman convicted of killing two of her children is facing more charges after being extradited to arizona. lori vallow daybell also known as the doomsday mom is serving a life sentence in idaho for

murdering her son and daughter and another woman. she arrived at a jail in arizona early yesterday morning. she faces charges there for allegedly conspiring to kill her estranged husband and her niece's ex-husband. and cbs new york says dna from the estranged wife of gilgo beach serial killer rex heuermann was found on some of the victims' remains. authorities say cheek swab samples from asa ellerup matched the dna. investigators say ellerup who has filed for divorce was out of the country when the victims disappeared and is not considered a suspect. heuermann has pleaded not guilty to murdering three women on new york's long island. he's also the prime suspect in the death of another woman. still ahead, wireless charging for electric vehicles debuts in the u.s. and in cbs "money watch," how mcdonald's is flipping the recipe on its signature big mac. been blocked for now. a month before the first in the nation measure was set to take effect, a federal judge ruled it unconstitutional arguing the ban likely violates the first amendment. state lawmakers passed the ban saying the chinese government could potentially access user information through tiktok whose parent company is based in beijing. a final ruling will come after legal challenges move through the courts. meta is shutting down thousands of fake facebook accounts ahead of the election. the company says the network of nearly 5,000 profiles created by someone in china were designed to appear to be from americans. now they weren't spreading fake content, but meta says they would reshare polarizing posts in order to exaggerate partisan division. and finally mcdonalds' burgers are getting an upgrade. for the past seven years the company has been working on improvements to make the patties juicier, the buns buttery-er, and the lettuce, cheese, and pickles fresher. while they can pump out burgers
