to figure out more ways to get people out and shopping downtown. consumers have been lured by sales and popup markets and there is an added focus on safety and shopping local. the night market in alameda was a way to boost that economy. >> reporter: i'm in downtown alameda. you can see the holidays are in full swing as they are coming up with different ways to promote local businesses like this winter market. it's the right place to be if you want to go holiday shopping in alameda. >> it's a great opportunity. the alameda park street vendor association gives all vendors a boost. >> reporter: chris has owned the store selling alameda prime merchandise ten years. >> we started making city pride

clothes for babies when my kids were young. now they are old. so it evolved. now we sell to all kinds of stores. >> reporter: one of dozens of vendors offering products and services this saturday during the winter market. >> it is great for small businesses. a lot of people are shopping online and a lot of retail in the city, a lot of people are struggling right now. it is good for all the vendors. >> reporter: so he brought his daughter and her friends to be out here. it is part of the effort to bring life and customers to the downtown area. >> how are you dealing with the shoplifting? >> referee: hasn't been too bad

at our place. been happening pretty often. >> reporter: and that's why in this other part of the city, the west alameda association announced a project called safety neighborhood ambassador. the program will provide community support, directions, and assistance for pedestrians and shoppers from thursdays to sundays between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. until december 31st. the association's president told us off camera that the program already started but this saturday night, we didn't see any ambassadors in the area. back at the winter market, chris walked us to his store. he says it is a safe area for shoppers. a big part of why he is proud to use his hometown's name on his products. >> reporter: chris is hopeful these players can bring more

people to this part of the town during the holidays. >> they have their thank oakland first campaign that includes more foot patrol officers and cameras. the plan also includes a city garage that will charge $5 to park after 5:00 p.m. san francisco's approach to safety has been hands on with the shoplifting blitz. they say in one day, a team of undercover officers arrested 17 suspected shoplifters at a store on mission street. they didn't name the exact store, but said it happened tuesday at the metrion. thousands of people in our region face food insecurity. there are a number of organizations across the bay area working to help. >> but as max darrow reports, some of the organizations are in need of a helping hand as well. >> reporter: there are many

picturesque counties in northern california. like lake county. mendocino county. sonoma county and more. but there are people who live throughout them who are hungry. people who the redwood empire deals with on a day in day out basis. and the ceo david goodman tells us the need is only growing. >> last year, this time, we were serving 45,000 people every single month. same month this year. 59,000 people. >> reporter: this year, they are serving more people, but receiving less support. right now, the redwood empire food bank is down in donations. >> if ever there were a time for people to step up and make a difference, now is the time. >> reporter: a dollar goes further than you may realize. >> for every dollar we spend, we distribute $3 worth of food. >> reporter: volunteering makes a huge difference, too. people think about food insecurity and

how they can help during the holiday season. helping those with food insecurity and dealing with food insecurity, it's a 365 day a year situation. >> hunger is agnostic. it doesn't care about thanksgiving or christmas. the coldest day at a food bank is the day after christmas. where everyone turns away for the next nine months. >> what is the next way people can help out? >> for every food bank they can go to their website. there is an ability to donate now. an ability to volunteer now. >> reporter: help to those who provide a helping hand to anyone in the bay area who might need one. >> second harvest of silicon valley had all the help they

shepherd husky mix. his mom is worried about his behavior. >> i have a vicious dog here. we want to try it. >> reporter: she tried different trainers and a boarding school. she hopes a four hour training session with augusto will have positive impact. >> each one of us his own opinion, but for me, you know, if it would help my dog, why not? >> reporter: many of the protesters are dog trainers. they claim argusto better known on social media as the dog daddy is abusing dogs. he has millions of followers. he claims to have changed the behavior of some of the worst dogs. but critics say he uses force and inflicts pain to only get temporary compliance. >> they are the victims of an unregulated industry. the thing they are trying next is something that could make their

dog much worse. >> is this how you want to treat your dog? >> our camera was not allowed inside. an attendee provided this video of saturday's training showing the dog daddy working with 30 owners. >> snake oil is still in business and this guy is selling. >> reporter: many paid 100 to $400 to attend. they said it is their last resort. >> she has already bitten another dog or two in the neighborhood. and i don't want it to escalate where she might hurt a human and the ultimate may happen. euthanasia. >> there's a lot of misunderstanding of what i do. because when you reach millions of people on a daily basis, there's a lot of different opinions that get formed. >> reporter: he says he has years of experience working with dogs since he was a kid. he says he provides methods for dog owners to take home to work on sustainable behavior changes. >> the misconception i'm

abusing dogs comes from people that don't understand specifically the type of dogs that come to me are dogs that are very out of control. they have tried everything else. >> reporter: as for elena, she said mikey was very calm after the training. >> how did it go? >> it is very good. it is very affirmative. i'm very happy. >> reporter: the dog daddy is scheduled to have another training session later this month in sacramento. protesters plan to peacefully demonstrate at that event as well. sunday morning dawns in gaza, israel continues to rain down bombs. it's the eight week anniversary of hamas' surprise attack. since then, perhaps, 15,000 palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed. and of the 240 people taken hostage, about 130 are still being held. with the collapse of the cease fire, civilians in gaza once again are caught in the cross fire.

israel says it will continue to let aid in. s even as the bomb kills more civilians. >> those inside israeli intelligence said they warn the government of the imminent attacks. christian bienvenides has that story. >> reporter: fighting in the gaza strip has resumed after a week long truce between israel and hamas came to an end. the idf says it has targeted and destroyed more than 400 terrorist targets and hamas is to blame for the resumption in fighting. they are considering a buffer zone between israel and gaza to prevent an october 7 style attack from repeating itself. >> let me be clear. you won't

have a situation in the future where you can have hamas terrorists on the border positioned just to cross over and kill our people again. >> reporter: there are mounting questions about the intelligence failure that led to the october 7 attack that sparked the war. margaret is part of an all female surveillance unit. they noticed and reported inusual activity as far back as six months prior to the attack. >> i think that the main thing that failed, just the fact that they didn't listen to us. >> reporter: during a trip to the region for a climate summit, vice president kamala harris from dubai saturday called for a two-state solution to the conflict and said israel must do more to protect civilian life. >> as israel pursues its military octaves in gaza, we believe israel must do more to protect innocent civilians. >> reporter: as fighting picks up again, so do the worldwide

for housing and control over its zoning regulations. some people in san francisco are getting new homes. eight families were given their keys to their new homes in diamond heights thanks to habitat for humanity. habitat ceo says this shouldn't be so rare and that the public should demand more resources to give residents a realistic opportunity at homeownership. >> and the elected officials need to stop arguing with each other and get solutions that get things done. and make it happen. it's hard. what we do is very hard, but not impossible. >> after completing the 500 volunteer hours building their homes, habitat for humanity

inch of rain. pacifica had 21 hundredths. had the numbers backward. and boulder creek. we are expecting high pressure to slowly exert itself. high temperatures about the same time as last night. it will be building in. it will miss us, this system. then the high builds in strongly enough that we look for things to actually warm up with our next chance of rain coming in on wednesday. and that is not so much. as we have a look at the rain chances in san francisco, 5:00, the chances at 50%. and another run at the computer models so it is not a big chance coming in wednesday, but it is at least the next chance. so to sum it up, light showers will end later in the day tomorrow, the chance continues more in the north bay. everyone will get more sun. the next chance of rain is coming in by midweek.

overnight lows tonight, we'll see them in the 50s . upper 40s . some of the cooler locations. tomorrow daytime will be a little bit warmer. clouds moving in but not rain. in the east bay, ditto. it is north of the golden gate that a little bit of drizzle might persist tomorrow morning and more clouds. up around ukiah tomorrow. high temperature 59 degrees. the extended forecast. next chance of rain coming in midweek up in the north bay. with wednesday looking like the best bet. otherwise, looks nice for monday. sunshine comes out. temperatures in the upper 60s and in a few spots the low 70s . that doesn't look so bad. as for sports, you win some you lose some. >> that's right. biggest game of the niners season almost here. we are breaking it down. the massive matchup. and warriors did just about everything right this afternoon. the scoreboard didn't reflect that.
