>> 'tis the season for who will die giving but better watch out the fbi says scammers have their eyes on you. >> all consumers should start with the simple principle if something looks too good to be true probably is. >> we are all trying to get last minute gifts checked off our holiday list and scammers are hoping to catch you off guard. fbi special agent in charge will join me to talk about how scammers are targeting you and how to avoid becoming a victim but first first alert weather, it's the first of two back-to-back storms that continues to dump rain on parts itself say area right now. meteorologist darren expect in our virtual view studio tracking it. >> this is storm number one. i'm going to show you how storm two comes in wednesday and maybe

pulls farther to have coast and doesn't bring as much rain wednesday and thursday. if you look at the totals since it started late morning we had light showers sunday but this is rain falling overnight. we got heaviest rain predawn and occasional showers to early afternoon. north bay idea what this looks like you can see a well organize line of rain across the north bay. you see heavier bands of yellow. some of you can follow that line as that marches out toward central val. so trivalley getting dee sen rain. we see that depart to be replaced by others and 9:00 tonight you can see another

organized line marching across the bay so don't expect a lot of change from what you've been experience for the last 24 hours but i will show you how that second storm coming in wednesday gives us more of a break and full forecast in a bit. lists back to you. >> thanks so much. today's news headlines protestors gathered outside san francisco's hall of justice showing support for the nearly 80 people arrested who blocked the bay bridge last month calling for a cease fire in gaza. today's rally was held before the first alleged demonstrateers were set to be arraigned the group calling on the d.a. to drop charges to those who took part. d.a. said free speech must be protected but not compromise public safety. pope francis has approved allowing priests to bless same-sex couples saying the church shouldn't be at the mercy

of exhaust i have analysis. remember the holiday season travel mess southwest airlines has agreed to pay $140 million over the meltdown that stranded passengers. transportation department says southwest did not provide enough help to customers or give proper notification about scheduled changes. southwest canceled 17,500 in storms. as you work to finish up holiday shopping fine says don't let your guard out. scammers are out in force. joining me is fbi special agent in charge robert tripp. thanks for joining news is thank. >> what scams are out there? >> well, the most common kind of scam we are seeing around the holiday season is the simplest thing you can think of a

non-delivery scam so somebody looking to buy a gift will find a company on line send money and not receive something. that's the most common scam we are seeing. >> when people are shopping on line which they are what are clues to look for on line that maybe that company isn't so reliable and may be a scam? >> one of the most common clues i advise people to look for is how you find the site. we see scammers on spam emails, even using calls and texts to draw attention to their sites. i encourage people to do thoirn research to do their due diligence and if you're looking for a gift go out and find it on your own. there are plenty of search engines that steer to you reliable sites. >> you look at emails from legitimate companies and they look legitimate but are scams. they're getting better than ever. >> they are getting than ever.

for scammers this is their full-time job. they have people that craft professional looking web site. that should not determine whether somebody sthops there or not. >> what should you do if you get scammed? what do you do if you don't get your package or steals your information on line? >> first try to work through the company because if it's not a scam the first recourse would be customer service but if you start to get an uneasy feeling that it's a scam i encourage first call the bank call the credit card company you used to buy the gift and sometimes they can reverse that payment and get the consume are their money back. the second thing is so important for people to do is to report it to law enforcement. there's a very easy way to do that specially for net based crime ic3.gov.

three simple characters. >> one of the most popular gifts out there gift cards is really popular tool for scammers, right? >> absolutely this is one of the biggest red flags we see in the scam world. no legitimate business will have you send them a gift card by way of payment. see this in scam after scam. the scammers love the gift cards because they're anonymous and easy to convert to cash. >> and not all scams during the holiday season are related to shopping. there's other ways people are trying to get your money. >> absolutely. one of the things unfortunately in the bay area we are seeing a lot of are investment scams. somebody will strike up some kind of conversation either in person or much more common, on line. all of us have a social media presence. that is the open door for a scam

dough french bread can be duplicated elsewhere. there is no patent on the sour dough process and if there was a hiten recipe it's been lost. the government would like to know what allows the starter bacteria to perform in a unique in the san francisco bakeries and fail else where. if the uniqueness is a chemical process you may be able to make your own. two san francisco firms have been responsible for baking and circulateing the popular bread around the world and been in business since the turn of the century or before. is there a secret to the making of french bread? >> there's a lot of mystery behind it but i doubt very much if there's a secret. today's scientific advancements i'm sure somebody will come down to putting it in formula stage. we have given our formula not only to competitors but other bakeries in other areas and so

in the fight against hunger. >> second harvest serves 500,000 people a month in san mateo and santa clara counties relying on donations like the kind we are getting now. we have a check from the goomba car club nor $11,000 and tracy from the club how did you raise the money? >> we raise it from our car show that we annually do in september. it's either a cash donation or it's canned goods, dry goods in barrels. and it's for our show that we do every year in downtown. >> excellent. now this is your 15th year being able to give for the car show. why is it so important for your members to do so? >> we have always been associated with second harvest since we started 15 years ago and we like to give to the community and we thought this was the best way to do it by

having a show and all the proceeds go toward second harvest and our community. >> how does it feel to be giving as the need is growing? >> it feels great. over the years it's gone up in donations and i think last year to this year we have doubled so it's great that we can give our time and have a great showed and give back to the community at the same time. >> all right. thank you very much. the donations have grown over the years and makes so much of a difference. how much a difference is it going to make this year? >> yeah, sharon. so that's hover 23,000 meals. it has huge impact and more importantly the goombas and i have had a 15-year partnership and that means a lot in bringing the community together. >> it's a good example that every dollar really does count,

experience out there today, liz and we should all kind of plan on having that kind of moment where maybe it hadn't been raining over your part of the bay for the last say 40 minutes and then a cell comes in and that's what we are seeing on first alert doppler. there's organization to this. we see there's a well defined line that marched across the bay and angled out to suisun and fairfield. east bay you're seeing more noticeable rain. some of that has brief downpours. back to the wide future cast, we are looking at the forecast model trying to depickett what's happening and it's portraying what's happening at this moment. that's a good sign for a forecast model if it's perfectly

depicting the here and know. isolated showers on again off again, well organized line at 9:00 will be one of those experiences you step outside get a brief downpour and there will be times you get a break. we are looking at tuesday and this hasn't changed much. tuesday we are still dealing with the same system. we are taking a look at tuesday 1:30. second half of its looks quieter. now, that is the next storm. totally separate system. let me go to the wide view. here's monday. you can see today's system with its chance of rain. this is the next storm and when you watch it on the big picture you can see why this is now a little more of a question because that system is going to get pulled off the coast.

right here you think hour going to get a band of rain and forward progression stops. the reason why is the center of the system is out here and it's wobbling back to the west so that means when it wobbles west it pulls this limb with it back out into the pacific and we miss out on some of the more impressive rain from that. that's really close. that the the majority of your wednesday morning. we get into wednesday morning and i should say afternoon and there are still some scattered showers that get pulled our way. so you see in the 7-day forecast we have rain wednesday and even a answer that into thursday we could see scattered showers. into the heart of thursday afternoon most of that system is going down to the south. so in addition to the rainfall totals we looked at for how much we might get from how much we've already gotten if we take the system forward and add in the

rest of today, tuesday and wednesday, here are your totals and still to go another two inches of rain coming your way in the in order bay and once we get to next week things get interesting. i just want you to see what the storm track could potentially look like. there's likely going to be a few more of these coming our way. into the 7-day forecast, you can see the chance of rain the next few days. it starts to quiet down toward friday saturday and sunday. so whatever might be coming our way next week it is not going to be here by this weekend. and you'll have a nice break in the action. all right, liz and back to you. >> all right, darren thanks so much. breaking news from alameda county all lanes of southbound 680 shut down at snow boulevard because of fatal crash. unclear how long the lanes will be closed bit chp says drivers
