wetter. >> we are the place where you make your dreams come true >> this guy carries so much love for san francisco it barely fits in his minicooper.. how he is trying to change people's tune about the city one tiny tour at a time. from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hello, i'm juliette goodrich. it was like a train wreck t. did a lot of damage and people could not look away. in fact, many flock to the coast to see the wild waves despite warnings to stay clear. even some evacuation orders. >> this is the county sheriff's office. evacuate the area. >> reporter: you can see people ignoring those orders despite all of the washed up logs that could easily have become battering rams, driven by the

pounding surf. all evacuation orders and warnings have been canceled tonight and now cleanup can begin in places like pacifica where the shoreline ended up in this person's first front. the wharf destroyed in last winter's storm took another beating along with coastal homes and businesses. and darren, it is only going to get wetter as you have been telling us, tomorrow? >> that is where we need to shift the focus fast, now. the next system coming in tomorrow it is going to deliver noticeably more rain than what we got from the last one. we pretty much, the entire bay, whatever part you are in, close to an inch of rain tomorrow. it will be a lot for us. not widespread flooding. it will be the latest. it will start late morning, watch this beautifully organized cold front come across and it is just going to sweep evenly across the bay. it will be one of those rare rainmakers that can deliver

just as much rain to san mateo as it does to santa rosa. it is not like one of those where santa rosa gets the lion share and everyone else gets leftovers. we will go into the details of tomorrow's system coming up in the forecast. i want to leave you with two added items of interest on tomorrow's system. the storm prediction back in oklahoma has actually included us in the slight chance of isolated storms from this. when you look at the north bay there will be enough rain on wet enough ground up there that they included the north bay tomorrow in what they call excessive rainfall. we could see some rises on some of the smaller streams and creeks up there from this. we will go into the details in just a bit. >> thank you. check out the scene in stinson beach, new residents literately got their feet wet

in their new community. >> reporter: this is what this couple woke up to on thursday morning. their street flooded with water as high surf and storm surges hit their neighborhood >> it took my feet away from me. i was going there way. that rock was rolling around at my ankles. i grabbed on to the fence thingy until the water went away. >> reporter: they moved here a year ago from oakland after falling in love with this charming seaside community. >> we lived all over the world and this was a no-brainer. >> reporter: even though they were warning this area was prone to flooding, they never expected to experience it quite so quickly. >> we refer to it as a baptism. [ laughter ] >> reporter: the water got close but the house was spared thanked to a handful of sandbags delivered by the local

fire department. tucked between the pacific objection and the lagoon. the town of about 500 residents is one of marin county's vulnerable communities. the studies showed this beach here could be inundated by middle to late century. they say they are still happy they made the move. >> what we saw today was just beauty. >> even after all of that water, they say, the experience has not dampened their love for stinon beach. now, back to capitola, it was less than a year ago when a series of storms hit the community. tonight, dealt another blow, surging water went into homes along the water. >> just awful last year. but this year it is a lot worse. at least for these buildings right here. debris comes from the river like lumber and trees and

then they just pushed over and through our buildings. >> reporter: some businesses still have not reopened since the january storms. stay with cbs news bay area for continuing first alert coverage. you can find updates any time on kpix.com and streaming on the free cbs news app. in other news, san francisco city worker in the hospital tonight with major injuries after being hit by a driver fleeing the police. the officers spotted a wanted car near 8th and mission late this afternoon but before they could pull it over the driver took off hitting the city worker. according to a witness he also slammed into several other cars. >> i saw another car that was banged up so bad that the air bags exploded and then i saw another car with two people in it that looked like they could of gotten stuck. >> the hit and run driver is still on the run tonight. a san francisco rapper and

business owner is apologizing tonight after making a video calling out the mayor for the city's crime problems. ♪ ♪ if you are going to san francisco ♪ make sure to leave nothing in your car. >> so, he owns kung food. it has been broken in half a dozen times since 2020. but, the way he chose to vent ignited a political firestorm. >> reporter: the reaction to a song put out by a local rapper critiquing mayor london breed has been significant and swift. so much so that the rapper issued a public apology. tensions are still running high in the city and local academics tell us they believe that is because this issue runs much

deeper than just one song [music] ♪san francisco that is my home ♪ let me put in a song so you never get it wrong. >> reporter: san francisco rapper found himself in the hot seat of san francisco politics. a few weeks ago he uploaded a new song called "san francisco our home" he critiques the city's policies on crime, specifically calling out mayor breed. ♪ mayor breed you are nothing but a clown. >> reporter: the video racked up tens of thousands of views and hundreds of comments. many supporting the rapper's lyrics, the song has hit a nerve for london breed supporters. on thursday, naacp san francisco president brown hosted a more than hourlong press conference with fellow civil rights and faith leaders calling him out for what he says was an

inappropriate and unwarranted attack on the mayor. >> it is unfortunate. this young man hijacked an art form that evolved from the black community and used it for devilish destructive end. >> he defended his song in a series of posts but then posted this apology video claiming that he was being threatened by a powerful supporter of mayor breed. >> someone who has the connection to presidents, senators, or, you know, the top elites. i am simply a civilian. for the sake of my family and my loved ones and my close friends, i would like to openly and publicly make an apology regarding my actions and what i say in the video. i had no idea

that these extremely powerful individual has so much emotional attachment to breed. >> brown called that a lie. >> that was dishonest. >> james taylor, a professor of politics at the university of san francisco says the whole controversy seems to have grown into something much bigger. putting a spotlight on a deeper issue that persists. >> it is part of a network of tensions that go back two or three years, probably to the recall. all of the recent politics of the city, i think, come into play and this young man had no idea that when he made these expressions of rap or art or public criticism or criticism of a public figure that it would get such a reaction. he had no idea what he was stepping into. i think what it shows the city is that there are tensions and it is going to play out a bit in the mayoral election going forward.

>> now, we reached out to the mayor's office for comment. they got back to us and told us they do not have a specific response to this music video at this time. they did go on to say that they take every incidence of crime against a small business or anyone in the city seriously. meanwhile, this guy is trying to change minds about san francisco one tiny tour at a time. >> we go out and within an hour they are captivated. this is wonderful. >> the man on a mission in a minicooper. there have been plenty of first in donald trump's career. tonight will he be the first star to fall from the hollywood walk of fame? oh, and the people who just found out the hard way. you can't outrun mother nature.

lot. >> caught off guard himself. look at this. today he thought he was far enough back. not even close. he is home now drying his shoes. and the equipment is drying off as well. all is good. a warning to us all. darren peck joining us now. the sneaker waves over, and the rain and now a earthquake just reported. >> a 4.0 in lake county. so, 4.0 is enough it would have been felt through some parts of the north bay. certainly up in lake county. not big enough we will likely hear of reports of damage. it just happened. so, let's start off with that. i want to talk about the surf and why we still have a minor issue with that coming our way from the next swell and we are going to that in one second. but, first, since it happened and if you are in anywhere in the north bay and you feel like there was minor shaking that 4.0, the latest reading on it. take a look at the numbers

there, it was five miles southwest. of cobb. you can see where the town is. it not likely would have been anything to cause damage. let's talk about the next swell coming our way. in order to take a look at what is on tap for friday and saturday we go back to the forecast imagery that shows us how the swells are moving through the ocean today. this is the one that brought all of the intensity along the coast. what we want to do is take a look at the next one now. it is upstream from there. this one is getting here tomorrow night into saturday morning. it is not going to be anywhere near as bad as today was. today was pretty exceptional. this is still enough that there is going to be likely minor coastal impacts. maybe minor coastal flooding from this friday night into saturday. i want to show you why this one will not be as intense. today's came right at the same time as high tide. if you take a look at the tide chart on here that

gets us to 11:30 this morning. that is when the biggest swell got here. let me show you when the biggest swell is getting here from the next one. down here, pretty much at the same time we will be at low tide. big difference. a lot of the problems with today we were getting an assist from high tide. a big swell. the two of them working together. bottom line, another one coming, maybe minor coastal impacts not like today was, though. let's take a quick look at where we are for the north bay. totals from this system that has been around since yesterday. this was not equal. look at everybody else. we barely got 17th of an inch of rain in san francisco. close to two inches in santa rosa. let's take a look at the next storm coming our way. this one it is going to be a much more impressive rain producer. it gets here tomorrow morning, we have a few light showers out there now. you really can not rule out a chance for light showers between now and tomorrow morning before this next system gets here. we can see that one here in the big

picture arriving tomorrow late morning, look at the organized line. the cold front comes through. looking at this at the top of the newscast. looking at it again, late morning, rain overtakes everybody. we see a good band of rain moving across the entire bay from noon until 6:00, 7:00 in the evening tomorrow. then, after that the isolated thunderstorms are going to be possible. so, there is a chance that we could have an isolated thunderstorm or two friday night going into saturday. enough rain with this in the north bay. the storm prediction center put excessive rainfall outlooks on the north bay. we could have minor rises on the local streams and creeks on this. look at the totals tomorrow. an inch of rain. but, close to that for everywhere else. looking at it from san francisco. and it will get windy as the system comes in. we will see 30-40 mile-an-hour gusts from say 7:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. the weather service issued a wind advisory for

that. so, it will be a busy day tomorrow. another first alert day tomorrow because of everything else that is still coming our way. we will put it in the seven-day forecast. we will draw your attention to the middle part of next week. another system coming our way by the time we get back towards tuesday and wednesday. right now, it looks like tuesday night into wednesday on the timing. we will have much more on that one as we get closer to it. maybe a chance of rain. light isolated rain on new year's eve. not major. back to you. >> thank you. still to come, the only thing more impressive than this landing was the reaction of the guy filming it. nothing is as impressive as that. tough shooting as the doves look to bounce back after a loss on christmas day. and there are weird bowls in college football season but the best of them all took place tonight

. it was a very bumpy landing for this passenger jet as it arrived at the airport. just as impressive as the pilots, it was the reaction from the guy filming it. >> oh, oh! oh, stop it. now you tell me those pilots -- oh! wait a minute! >> that is great. the jet was being whipped around by strong winds from a storm system in the area there. so, hats off to the pilots landing it. hey, we like the audio, too. you can not get away with that. that is funny. >> i want to hear him call a warriors game or something. >> yes. speaking of which, okay, we were on this great wind streak so exciting and now we are kind of, it is -- yes, six game winning streak. warriors got above 500 this past weekend . and going back

to a losing. the reserves stepped up, third quarter, showing it off tonight. finished with 17 points, fourth quarter, noise pass there. and, the three point play. heat ran away with this one. warriors fall to 15-16, they will host the mavericks on saturday night. sometime basketball can be a simple game. warriors did not do it tonight. never a good thing when they go curry, thompson, both struggled. combined 7 of 26 from the field 4 of 14 on attempts. warriors shot 24% from deep tonight. it will not get it done. if there is one positive takeaway tonight it is that golden state showed off its depth. eight warriors finishing. 10 players played double digit minutes. with green and peyton returning soon, steve kerr will have

tough decisions to make with the rotation >> it is a subject that i can't stop talking about. i think bowl season is starting to get out of hand last night we talked about the mayo bowl that ended with a disgusting mayo bath. tonight, appetizing game the pop tars bowl. kansas state wins, who cares about the game. maybe our producer but any ways that fella dressed up as a pop tart was the star of the show. he danced with the mascots, even a police officer. the pop tart tried to get the ref into it. after the game the pop tart sunk into a large toaster and as promised this is, kind of dark, kansas state won so they were awarded the edible mascot as the winning team. the mascot we saw going into the toaster toasted himself and then let kansas state cannibalize him. >> he got toasted and
