language, a beautiful community nation that raised me and encouraged me to keep going, keep doing this. my mom, who, even though she's not blackfeet, worked tirelessly to get our language into our classroom so i had a blackfeet language teacher growing up. [applause] this award belongs to -- i hope i don't get counted down too fast, because this is an historic one. i'm so grateful i can speak even a little bit of my language, which i'm not fluent in, up here. because, in this business, native actors used to speak their lines in english, and the sound mixer is run them backwards to accomplish native languages on camera. this is an historic win. it doesn't belong to just me. i'm holding it right now. i'm holding with all of my

completely magical. i have to say, i am so pleased that chris has been acknowledged, because i just think that what he does is unlike anything anyone else is doing. [applause] all of this talent, and these amazing actors but also all of our hods. the p.a.s, camera assistants, everybody did their best on this film. chris brings the best out and people by being the very best himself. i would love to thank donna langley and everybody at universal. [applause] when i sort of look back on that moment when we sat down with you, i don't think it was a no-brainer by any stretch of the imagination to make a three hour talky movie about -- r-rated, by the way, about one of the darkest developments in our history. i'm really grateful that your

three deadly shootings overnight bringing that total number two 4 in the first week of the year. the most recent was this morning at 7:35 am on plymouth street. not far away a woman was killed at 5:40 pm last night and the third was aced or clerk on linden street. that is where we are tonight . talking to his family, friends and neighbors about the senseless loss. >> reporter: friends and neighbors have been coming by to light candles, drop off flowers and pray for the family. there say the man was a fixture and beloved in the community. the family identified the murder victim. the robbery happened saturday night just after 8:00 inside orlando's market. the family

across the street from the market and has known him for 12 years. he says he was a generous man and sold him a car last march. he needed a car to get to work. >> i gave him 1500 as a down payment, he never brushed me. >> reporter: many neighbors and longtime customers are heartbroken. they say he is a kind man. >> he has a beautiful family. >> reporter: he is angry over the loss of a friend, he is set up and wants the mayor to declare a state of emergency. if the city does not do more she worries more people will die. >> nonstop every day, robberies and killings. >> reporter: the family turned

all of the surveillance footage to homicide investigators, so far nobody has been arrested. they did not release any suspect information. across the bay a man was shot and killed outside of chase center. police found the victim on the face side of the arena. a car m■ay have een involved in the shooting. police have not identified a suspect. 10 years ago the city started a program to end all pedestrian fatalities by 2024, we are now in 2024 and the program has not reached its goals. john has more. >> reporter: the purpose of the new law is to increase pedestrian disability at crosswalks, there are places in the city where the letter of the law seems impractical.

robby traveled from connecticut for work and has not figured out san francisco's traffic. >> i have been here for a week and i have not gotten used to it. >> reporter: she is amazed with all of the distractions drivers have to deal with. >> there is scooters, cable cars, tense in the middle of the streets. >> reporter: it makes it dangerous for people trying to cross the street. >> i feel like people cannot see me when i am on the sidewalk and it feels that way a lot in san francisco. >> reporter: 8415 was signed into law, it prohibits parking within 20 feet of a marked or unmarked crosswalk so guys like

joe do not have to wonder how in the street to see past the van parked at the corner. >> i look around anyway, the drivers here are bad news. >> reporter: it is a safety measure known as daylighting, it is already being used in the tenderloin district. most corners have barriers that prevent parking in crosswalks. in the sunset district, it is a different story. there is a reason so many cars are parked on her street. >> one person may have 5-6 cars, and that is there privilege. i think it is not fair. other people need spaces.

>> reporter: here there are no barriers or curbs keeping people back. according to the new law, these cars are illegally parked at a resident says he does not think it is practical. >> look at how tight it is already. when you see people parking out here even for a little bit, they post up on their and get stuff out of their house, if it is illegal people will get tickets left and right. in san francisco you are fighting for parking as it is, you are making it more difficult , also the tickets are ridiculous. you will go broke in a month with that law. >> reporter: the law already exists but how much it will be enforced has yet to be seen. for the next year they will only issue warnings but come 2025 the tickets will begin flowing for people parking on the edge. >> the new law only applies

to unmarked intersections, people can continue to park just outside of the red curb. legislature backed by scott weiner looks to close the locked door loophole under the current law. prosecutors have to prove the car was locked to prosecute for car burglary which at times means owners need to come to court to testify, this creates a burden on the victims especially if they were just visiting the city. >> they will not fly back from wherever to testify they locked the car door. this is undermining accountability for people breaking into cars. >> reporter: the san francisco da says there was 15,000 reported auto burglaries in 2023 which could be a low

estimate as auto burglaries often go unreported. a california law that bans people from carrying firearms in public places has been blocked again. since then there have been several legal challenges and conflict decisions by judges, the appeals court will take up the issue in april. low income families are getting extra help feeding the children in the summer months. the state has enrolled in a program launched by the u.s. department of agriculture. children that qualify for reduced lunch at school will also get $40 a month during summer break which can be used to purchase groceries at stores and farmers markets. coming up, protesters protesting the housing development as well as calling

the chevron refinery had

another flaring incident on saturday, they told the city it was a level one incident and the city set there was never a risk to public health. chevron has been issued repeated notices for air quality issues affected by their refinery. they said they are continuing to investigate the refinery for repeated offenses. the marin county fire department posting these photos on social media as well as a video of the fire from someone who was eating at the time. the boathouse was completely consumed, nobody was in it at the time and no word on what caused the fire. a man was found safe after he went missing . rescue crews skied the backcountry in

search of the missing hiker. he was given food and water before being returned to his car. the sierra received more than 13 inches of snow over the past 24 hours and has gotten more than 25 inches in the past week. the winter storm led to some cutting their weekend ski trip short. many were stuck in traffic for hours. >> the wind was blowing really bad. >> more snow is expected on tuesday and wednesday this week. back here in the bay area we have more cold weather to worry about. >> tomorrow morning will be just as cold as this morning, we are going back down to the

mid-30s. there is one benefit to this, not as breezy tomorrow so less of a windshield. it will be just as cold on the thermometer and when it comes to frost advisories it is whatever the thermometer is reading that matters. that is what affects the plants. it will be cold in the mid-30s. then we take a look ahead to the remainder of monday and we are looking at clear skies for the first part of the morning and then clouds show up. daytime highs in the upper 50s will be the leading edge of the next system. to find the next rain we have to look at the gulf of alaska. a nice pattern in terms of getting cold storms that can do more production. this one pulls a little moisture up from here but the cold air is coming down with it. the first wave

comes through tuesday morning right there. that is 6 am. the will not be a lot of rain to this. it falls apart as it moves across the bay. by 10:00 in the morning it is already leaving. look at the back edge of it. see that string of pearls of dots behind it, that is the cold front. when that leaves that is all this system has to offer. then we get to wednesday and it is still the same system but it is the center of the system so it is not reliant on the cold front. it will be able to produce rain over a widespread area. to really see the duration of it we go to the long range and we will be done by wednesday night. look at the grand total. a 10th of an inch of rain for both days. in the sierra this

storm will put a half a foot of snow on donner pass. this is a wednesday travel concern. be aware it will be a bit snowy up there. there is another system coming our way. thursday we get a break. friday and saturday the next system is sitting out here. the center of it came down from the north. this could have better ingredients to provide more rain and snow in the sierra. we have more details as we get closer to it. a chance of rain tuesday and wednesday, a break on thursday and the next system comes in friday and saturday. next, the 49ers and warriors both in action today.
