the tale. from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hello, i'm sara donchey. one oakland woman dedicated so much of her free time to trying to help others turn their lives around in really, really difficult times. that is exactly what she was doing, moments before she was hit and killed in a hit and run crash earlier this month. 59-year-old kim buronco was hit not once but twice as she crossed the road. tonight, the police are still looking for one of the cars, this white toyota rav4. her friends and family gathered to honor her memory and urge drivers to slow down. they told andrea nakano that she was a beacon of light in her neighborhood. >> reporter: kim is known as ahead bug to her friends. they are grieving her loss along with her mother and three

children. [singing] . >> reporter: a song for kim's mother as people gathered for a vigil. the family discovering how much she was loved in the community >> just taking it all in. >> i knew i loved her. >> see you later. >> bye-bye. >> i did not know this. >> reporter: she was hit twice just outside of serenity house, a place she volunteered to help those recovering from substance abuse. she was hit just after leaving serenity house. >> the street in the community is not the same because ahead bug is not here. and for her to be taken so tragically i think that is what is hurting us more. >> reporter: those at serenity house said there was no one quite like kim. >> she had a light inside of her that would brighten up

warriors are warning another life cut short on their coaching staff. teams across its league held a moment of silence for the coach at their games tonight including the lakers. >> and since 2021 he has been a part of the warriors coaching staff. we ask that you observe a moment of silence in honor of dejan. >> the warriors did not play tonight. they postponed their game >> yep. >> after the shocking news >> and the shocking circumstances frankly of what happened to this man who was young. >> yes, he was just 46. they were at a team dinner tuesday night in salt lake city. that is when dejan had a heart attack and passed away early this morning. he was just 46 years old. in the third season on the coaching staff after coming over from serbia. the team flew back home. tonight's game postponed. steve kerr said

dejan was one of the most positive person that i know. we grieve with natasha and their two children. you saw the lakers they had a moment of silence for him. i have to wonder the team comes back and they play on friday here in san francisco, no word from the nba yet as if the game will actually be played with the circumstances. you think about what the players saw. it is tough to think about them taking the court right now. >> i know, just sad to hear about him and his children and his wife and family and to think about seeing that happen and the trauma that would cause. hopefully they get the help they need. >> thank you, sara. we have heard one disturbing story after another of violence at santa rosa schools. tonight, another oncampus attack to tell you about. a group of four girls jumped a 14-year-old girl in a

bathroom at montgomery high. she was badly hurt and had to go to the hospital. police say she was kicked, punched, over and over again, had her hair torn out. one of the girls stole her phone and ran away. the police say they arrested the girl who they call the ring leader in this attack. now, there is the exact same school where a student was stabbed to death inside of a class room last march during a fight. a couple weeks after that killing two more students were arrested for bringing knives to school. in the end the principal and assistant principal were both put on leave. the problem is not just at montgomery. fights got so bad at multiimsanta rosa schools the district put a police officer at every campus in december. they were only there until the holiday break. and one student told us since then, nothing much has changed. >> is there a violence problem here on the school? >> yes, most definitely. a lot of fights and altercations with a lot of students on this campus. there is a lot of gang violence, too, people don't talk about the gang violence

but there is a lot. >> a few weeks ago the school district created a pilot program bringing school officers back on campus. that has not happened yet. a big secret in our backyard, a group backed by tech millionaires for a mysterious new city. the group is called california forever, they are throwing out all kinds of big promises about what this could be. the word utopia has been used. now they want voters to sign off on it. trying to get a measure on the november ballot paving the way for the community to be built between travis air force base and rio vista. they are promising to build 20,000 homes create well-paying jobs and schools and attract people seeking a walkable self--sustaining lifestyle. >> it could help not only build a new community with jobs but can help revitalize our

downtown. >> there always has been a lot of criticism and a lot of skepticism. some are concerned that the development would put a huge strain on the water supply. how do we support the businesses that depend on agriculture. >> the land is zoned as agricultural. that is why the group needs voter approval to move on with this project. a group of students say there was something that they saw that they can never unsee. the uc students who had to go to the hospital over the images hackers put up on their computer screens. he is covered with road rash and in the hospital and he considering himself the luckiest man. how he went flying out of his own rv. looking at clear skies over most of the bay area, eventually we will see fog developing thick to start the

. tonight, students at uc irvine are begging the fbi to look into a hack attack that is so graphic some of them ended up in the hospital. earlier this month hackers took over discorders, they use class communication and group projects. on january 9th the cyberattackers demanded a ransom and started flooding them with pop ups of absolutely vile images. >> the videos involved the violation and mutilation of bodies, corpus and animals, it made some students so sick they went to the hospital for treatment. after four days of this happening students created

their own bot to block the hackers out. now they want them caught and punished. we first showed you this heart-stopping video on monday of a guy flying out of the window of his own suv, landing on the side of a southern california freeway. not only did he survive he is talking about what happened to him. >> it was a blur. i don't know how i am alive. >> reporter: lying in the hospital with broken bones and a road rash, he can remember every second of this frightening scene on the freeway on monday when he was tossed right out of this moving rv. >> it is undescribable. i did not know what was going on. i just. i thought that the entire side of the rv was ripped off. i was trying to figure out why am i outside? >> he is that dark speck that you see in this dash camera video on the center median. he slid 170 feet on his face >> got the stitch necessary my

sportscaster for espn. he says all of the basketball he played in college probably helped him survive. unbelievable story there. we need to talk about our weather. we have a lot going on towards the end of the week and into the weekend, paul, we are planning for days of rain, right? >> right. >> we got 70,000 people going to gather in santa clara, hoping for a break in the rain for a few hours. we have one more dry day in store for us tomorrow. high pressure, weak area of high pressure, more atmosphere on top of us. stopping the showers for the moment. that type of feature helps in the development of fog. we are not seeing much of that just yet as we look out to the east. the temperatures are backing down to the middle to upper 40s and 50s. we will level off in the 40s by the morning, the fog is going to continue to spread out. some of it spreading in from the central valley through the delta and into the inland valleys of the east bay and some of that will be developing around the bay as well. the fog

on future cast shows up in the brighter white. the duller gray, farther cover up in the atmosphere. the fog is gone, midmorning, late in the day at the latest. the fogs further up are thickening, filtered sunshine at best on thursday. still enough for the temperatures to warm up. we will start off in the lower to middle 40s across the board and end up a couple degrees above average tomorrow afternoon. let's take a look at those numbers for the forecast highs and we will talk about rain chances. the temperatures warmest in the santa clara valley. up in the middle 60s. take advantage of the warmth. not that warm. 56, the cool spot where the fog will be more prevalent and persistent keeping a limit how much the temperatures warm up. we will see a lot of 60s on the map by tomorrow afternoon. north of the golden gate, the temperatures should reach up to 60 degrees, fog, inland valleys in the north bay to slow down the warm up as well. the temperatures do not change a lot. the rain chances, they do definitely change as we head into the end of the workweek on

friday and then into the weekend. first showers will be approaching the coast as the sun comes up. the bulk of the rain will not move in until friday afternoon. the heaviest and most widespread rain with the first wave arriving right around rush hour on friday afternoon and evening. plan for that to be a challenging time frame. breezy conditions as well. not the strongest winds that we will experience in this stretch of unsettled weather. it continues into friday night. and then, we will be tracking an area of heavier rain that sets up over the north bay for the first half of the day on saturday. we will freeze the maps at 5:15 on saturday evening as the 49ers are kicking off against green bay. showers are possible, it looks like it will be one of the times when we see the showers being the fewest and farthest between before more rain moves in later saturday night and sunday. that will be a wet time, sunday into monday. heavier rain in store for us, the first one, friday, friday night. talking about a quarter of an inch of rain to over one

inch of rain for parts of the north bay. the general rain will be half an inch to an inch of total rainfall. some of the rain shadowed spots. we are talking about the rain shadow locations picking up an inch and a half of rain. some of the spots in the north bay, over four inches of rain. same thing for the santa cruz mountains, the more waves of rain continuing to fall on the already saturated ground brings in the possibility of localized flooding. the rainfall outlook from the weather prediction center that categorizes the risk of flooding it is marginal risk for the first system on friday. but, heavier rain in the forecast for sunday and sunday night especially that goes up to a slight risk. the next highest category for the north bay and with gustier winds with that system. we will be looking at potential for localized flooding and a little bit of tree damages and power outages. that sunday and monday system will be atmospheric river. those are the lowest

categories, that brings, usually, beneficial rain. the fact that it will fall on saturated soil heightens our concern about the potential for localized flooding and spir attic power outages, a wet stretch of weather in our weather tubes here makes it look like friday all of the way through monday will be a complete wash out. it won't be. the rain will come at us in waves, breaks in between. a wet time frame and then after one dry day on tuesday we got more showers possible by wednesday of next week. we will keep you updated on all of that over the next several days, matt? >> golf does not look likely over the weekend. 9ers are kicking off their playoff run against the packers, they have good memories the last time they played green bay. it has not stopped the packers from handing brock purdy good old bulletin board material for the game. it did not work out so well the last time s

people are too concerned about but the stakes are high. >> and again on sunday we just watched it happy. taking on the packers, 9ers have great memories around this time of the year. the last time they faced green bay in the playoffs there was a new quarterback in town and there is a new quarterback wearing green and gold. his first year as a starter jordan love has the packers two games away from the super bowl. he took down the cowboys. his predecessor, aaron rodgers had plenty of history against the niners who ended up handing him a loss in his final playoff game as a packer. >> playing with a-rod that was always fun. beating him in green bay that is one of the most memorable games of my career for sure. the atmosphere, how we won. a tough game. that sticks out the most. >> the niners have beaten the packers the last four times
