hear about in a scary movie. and you end up in a kind of situation that seems like a good not possibly be any worse than it is. a woman lived something like that when she was tapped on top of an overturned car in the middle of a flooded creek for what probably felt like an eternity. kelsey thorton shows us a very important thing she did that saved her life. >> reporter: you can see the overturned truck out here behind me, stuck in these floodwaters, first responders say the driver of the truck balanced on top of it for close to 15 hours, much of which was in the pitch black darkness. just waiting and hoping for someone to find her and call for help. harrowing video shot from above a rescue helicopter shows the moment first responders listed a woman to safety, after she spent the entire night, trapped on top of her overturned truck. >> we could've had a whole

different outcome and she could have been swept downstream but strong enough to get on top of the vehicle. >> reporter: the alameda county fire department says the woman underestimated the water depth when she tried to cross a flooded road in a remote area of the family campground in livermore around 7:30 monday night. the rushing water was so strong that it pushed her truck off the road and flipped it into a creek. >> maybe out of tenacity or like i don't know what it was, but the cab was submerged and she was able to swim out of the window and climber self up on top of the vehicle. >> reporter: it wasn't until just after 10:00 a.m. the next morning, first responders set a nearby camper walked out of the water and spotted her on the vehicle. >> but, to the campground office and made a phone call to 911 and got everybody started.

>> reporter: rescuers called in chp and there helicopter for an assist after a short lived, the woman was carried to safety and transported to the hospital, where firefighters say that she is expected to be okay. >> very lucky, and she's probably got a little bit of toughness, just to be able to stick it out. she didn't really have any other choice. but luckily, there were other people in the area, she could have done a lot longer. >> reporter: the fire department told us that first responders were actually called out to this area just about a month ago, for a similar incident, they say that just shows how dangerous rushing water can be, and it's a good reminder to drivers, to never drive through it. >> a good reminder indeed. i know we have rain coming in, will be anything like we have got this weekend where we saw days of rain, or a lot of rain or heavy rain at times? i don't know if it will have any impact but the similarity will be rain, it'll be wet, already getting some showers and mainly north of the golden gate and it looks really impressive on first alert doppler. everything brightly lit up a lot of that moisture is elevated into the atmosphere, there has been some

rain over the past couple of hours but generally, talking about less than a 10th of an inch of rain, the kind of brightness showing up, the writer looking a few thousand feet up in the atmosphere, and picking up quite a bit of moisture there, not all of it reaching the ground level, we will see more of it reaching the ground as we had to the rest of the night in fact the latest scan going up updating things and backing off in the intensity that it is depicting at the moment. farther down to the south picking up some showers making their way towards the peninsula, and i want to zoom out over the past couple of hours at a look at what is happening as the showers approach in san francisco, you can see them dissolving and fading away. that indicates as we get closer to the radar site that we have seen some of the not surviving the trip all the way down to the ground but plenty more offshore that will make its way and as we head to the rest of tonight future cast, more reasonable depiction of what the intensity of the rain is going to be like as we had through the late night and early morning hours, it's going to be a wet commute but not talking about merely the

kind of impact that we had on sunday night into early monday morning, but still extra time for the morning commute an extra stopping distance and it will fade into some lingering often are radar freckles on the map by tomorrow afternoon but we don't entirely dry out by tomorrow night. talking about generally a quarter inch to a half inch of rain. where you will get a little bit of a jumpstart on the rain this evening, north of the golden gate. anywhere from about a half inch to three quarters of an inch. compared to a few inches of rain that fell for the north bay, sunday night into early monday morning, that is why this will be a lower impact event. take a look at any additional rain chances. in the seven-day forecast we will zoom in for a closer look at some rain events tonight coming up in just a few minutes. kenny choi is here, kenny we have been talking about in and out planning to close it's only oakland location, and this is getting so much attention basically all over the bay area and it is the first time that we understand that the chain has ever closed the restaurant but the company says that it has to because of all of the crime at the location.

>> we have seen all of the crime, the restaurant is a dream location, for a fast food joint, close to the oakland airpt and perfect for hungry travelers as you know. just off a major freeway, so the company says that this location actually turns a profit, so this is a cost-benefit decision, bite in and out that is turning up the spotlight on spit city leaders responding. and the mayor's office highlighting its efforts to increase patrols over the last year, even siding favorable crime stats but anecdotally, customers and residents are concerned about the trend that they are seeing, closer after closure. >> definitely frustrating, definitely frustrating, because of it's not in and out it'll be something else tomorrow. >> it is terrifying because it also puts us in danger. >> the oakland airport and the corridor, it is a gateway into the east bay. and we have got to invest more and have dedicated regional statewide collaboration on how we are going to support and strengthen

that corridor. >> we've also done a lot of reporting on the snatch and grab that gas stations in the area, so in that statement by the mayor the mayor pointed out that opd now has a dedicated officer patrolling on foot in addition to regular patrols and undercover operations and three new surveillance cameras, she added saying that the surgeon public safety resources has led to a reduction in property crimes all along the quarter but more is necessary and i will be working with regional and state leaders to protect this gateway into oakland. critics agree, a lot more needs to be done, if oakland wants to be a world-class city, with an intimate international airport they need to make sure that the heggen burger quarter is safe and clean. here's what griffin lee added, saying that if this doesn't wake oakland up, i

this moisture elevated in the atmosphere, not falling all the way to the ground level. the total rainfall in the north bay has generally been less than a 10th of an inch but eventually there will be more substantial moisture. let's take a look at the future cast more widespread rain making its way and as we head towards the peak of rush hour tomorrow morning, so the timing can be a lot better and the good news is, this isn't going to be the heavy sustained rain that we had sunday night into early monday morning. and it's going to be pretty short-lived. it will get out of here by mid-to-late morning, we don't entirely dry out. still a few radar freckles as we through the rest of the day. so keep the umbrella and rain jacket handy. but it won't be as widespread as it would be out there in the morning. but we will dry out tomorrow night with a mix of clouds and sunshine and some more moisture over the pacific. that is largely going to the north and we will talk about why momentarily but first let that up how much rain we expect out of the system that has already dropped to a few hundredths of an inch. generally about two

thirds of an inch close to total rainfall in some higher elevations of the north bay. not enough to lead to any significant flooding threat. farther south, the amounts are going to range from a quarter to half inch and to be dividing line for the more substantial amounts will be right around the san mateo bridge, farther to the south, talking about closer to 2/10 of an edge. and they will over achieve on the future cast. these are going to change tomorrow, often on rain possible tomorrow afternoon. but as high pressure builds into the atmosphere, from the south it will nudge the storm track to the north, by friday into saturday. how far to the north? that is the tough part to pin down because it can be a couple showers try to make a run through the north

bay into saturday. we are leaving the forecast driver now but it is an outside chance, farther down the line, increasing confidence and looking at a wet and windy pattern, as early as the last day of january, that is a week from tomorrow especially as we head into early february. the 8 to 14 day outlook look high confidence with a high normal pattern right now, dust clouds as we look out of the tower, but 20 of cloud cover, low to mid 50s for temperatures at the moment. mid-to-upper 40s with the widespread showers as we begin the day on wednesday. even with the clouds of the showers, temperatures are going to warm up as we head through wednesday afternoon, to within a degree or two of what is normal for this time of year, the warm spot will be san jose at 61. that is exactly 1 degree above average, with the temperatures in the santa clara valley and the upper 50s, in the east bay. upper 50s around the south end of the bay. mid-50s for half moon bay, temperatures going to be just a little bit cooler than other locations, but we will see those temperatures in the north bay, also remaining a little bit below the rest of the bay area, to make sure the temperature cracker it's always fun in this virtual environment, you can just walk through the landscape where the

remains were not. we will talk about farther down the line with a quick check on the 10-day forecast with temperatures as we look at san jose, it will be one of the warmer spots throughout the timeframe, look at this climate, temperatures into the low to mid 70s, sunday and monday, still around 70 degrees on tuesday, and that is above average, and it is great news for the 49ers, kickoff temperature around 70 degrees on sunday with a mix of clouds and sunshine. a whole different story than what they had last week. that is good news, especially for quarterbacks that struggle with what is happening weatherwise, let's check out what will happen to our weather. we have the wet day tomorrow and then dry weather takes over thursday, likely friday as well, just a little bit of a warming up for the first half of the weekend and then some more substantial warm-ups there is a slight chance of a shower that is going to settle into the north bay friday night into saturday and we will keep you updated on that as we head through the next several days. vern? the detroit lions have been talking to. and acting tough,
