. now at 11:00, an hour's long standoff in union city just got tenser as a tactical vehicle moves in to try to force a shooting suspect out. how an eviction notice erupted into gunfire leaving a deputy wounded. the a's owner is not popular with bay area fans right now. what about in sin city. the icy reception he got today in las vegas. and what it was like to land in a plane with a gaping hole in the side. from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey. on cbs

news bay area. and good evening i'm juliette goodrich in for sara tonight. we begin with breaking news, a s.w.a.t. standoff stretched to almost 10 hours tonight. a sheriff deputy is in the hospital with a gunshot wound right now and it all started with an eviction notice. in the past hour we saw a large tactical vehicle pull up in front of a business in union city where that notice was served earlier today. and law enforcement firing what appeared to be rubber rounds or bean bags to break the glass door. so, a live look now at the scene that the tactical vehicle now pulled back just a bit. that white stuff that you see hanging off of the rod on the front there, you may see it in back of me. the building, the front window blinds, you can see the door appears to be barricaded with wood or actually some furniture in the front there. law enforcement believes at least one suspect

is still inside right now. so, earlier they tried to force a surrender with flash bangs, so far that has not worked. we did see a large law enforcement presence at the edan medical center where the wounded deputy is being treated tonight. our kelsi thourd is outside of the perimeter with more on how it start. >> reporter: law enforcement officials say they are confident the shooter is surrounded inside of a business here in this industrial park. but now nine hours into the standoff, whoever is inside won't come out. it all started around 1:30 wednesday afternoon when two alameda county sheriff deputies went to serve some sort of eviction notice at an industrial park. shots were fired and a law enforcement source tells kpix one deputy was hit in the arm. >> one deputy was struck and

has been transported to a local trauma center for treatment of injuries. >> reporter: so far it is unclear if the deputies returned fire. law enforcement swarmed the area, locking down the entire block. they believe at least one suspect is still there and there could be as many as three. around 8:30 we heard several flash bangs go off. it apparently still was not enough to convince the suspect or suspects to surrender. >> we don't fully know what we have. and that is why we are still out there investigating. it is a dangerous situation. >> reporter: now, according to the sheriff's office it is unclear whether or not the suspect was using this location as a business or a residence. it is still unclear why exactly they were being evicted at this time. we did hear from union city police they were never called out to this specific address before. >> all right, kelsi, thank you, she was at the scene there.

let's go back live to the pictures co see the door still barricaded, it looks like furniture in front, the suspect, one suspect, that we know of, possibly inside right now. this standoff going for more than 10 hours into the midnight hours now. law enforcement waiting as one of their own is at edan medical center in castro valley listed in critical condition with gunshot wound. so, we will continue to follow this developing story into the evening and, of course, on kpix.com. all right, in other news oakland toddler is home safe tonight after being kidnapped during a carjacking. the 2-year-old was in the backseat when the car was stolen near the coliseum yesterday. he was later found in san leandro, alone, unhurt. his mom's cell phone was still in the car. the police tracked it and they were able to arrest the suspect. it

. let's return back to our breaking news in union city where the suspect accused of shooting a sheriff's deputy has been holed up in this business park for nearly 10 hours now. the deputy was serving an eviction notice at the time and is expected to recover. we have seen law

enforcement use everything from flash bangs to a battering ram to get the suspect out of there. so far, no luck. okay, that guy clearly rattled when a 4.2 earthquake struck near san bernardino tonight. the shallow quake widely felt as far away as los angeles and san diego. so far no damage reported. it is safe to say that a's owner john fisher has taken a lot of heat from bay area fans over the team's move to vegas. in the desert today he took the cold shoulder. andrea nakano shows us an awkward moment captured by the vegas review journal. >> many at the chamber of commerce event were tuning in on the stadium project. we talked to a business expert and he says the only thing that came out loud and clear is that

warmer skies heading our way, huh? >> yeah, we are going to warm up nicely heading into the weekend. the middle of the country, warming up after that icy stretch of weather. we have had lingering drizzle giving way to dense fog. drier weather kicks in tomorrow. it looks like a dry forecast as we head into the weekend into early next week. gunner alley dry. warmer temperatures are going to kick in as well as we head through the weekend into early next week. sunday and monday we will be 10-12 degrees above average. let's take a different perspective from san francisco and looking towards sales force tower. the cloud cover settling down as fog. only one spot in the 40s right now. santa rosa, everyone else still in the lower to middle 50s. we will end up in the 40s across the board. future cast does indicate reduced visibilities for most of us. the dense fog will be on a patchy basis, not a blanket covering the bay area, we will give the fog a little bit of

time to burn off. should be dissipating. late morning, temperatures will warm up from the slightly above average start here in late january it is typical to see temperatures dipping into the upper 30s. instead, everyone begins in the 40s tomorrow morning, warming up to a few degrees above average. tomorrow's forecast highs, 1-4 degrees above normal. 63 degrees in san jose. that is the warm spot, 3 degrees above average, lower 60s inland, around 60 degrees, bayside, fremont, the cooler spots will hit the upper 50s. 59 degrees in san francisco. it is pretty much everyone else expected to be near or above 60 degrees for high temperatures tomorrow with even warmer weather in store. not too much yet by friday and saturday but especially by sunday and monday. that is when we will step on the gas in terms of the warm up. let's take a look farther down-the-line. we get a break from those for the next several days for the most part.

i said it earlier. we do still have a slight chance, friday night, saturday, for a better chance of rain. going to hold off heading into next week. as early as tuesday night, likely by wednesday, wednesday night, even in that time frame disagreement with the forecast models, looking at the european model. they disagree, american model keeps it to the north, european model keeps most of it to the rain to the north, not all of it, a passing shower for the north bay on saturday. basically santa rosa northward be flexible with outdoor plans on saturday to be on the safe side. the best chance of rain heading our way next week. european model forecast brings widespread rain and gusty winds into the bay area on wednesday. that american model still holds it out over the pacific until at least wednesday, more likely thursday, thursday night. we will keep evaluating that and keep you updated. let's take a look at the seven-day forecast. in the short term, again, passing clouds for most of us,
