that it is hard to stand up right. we got that and a lot more this weekend. showers to top it all off today. our meteorologist paul heggen joins us to talk about the problems and some of them that is still onggoing. >> especially the wind. the wind to blame for knocking out power to a million people at the peak of the storm? seeing winds to over 90 miles for hour. earlier today, there were still more than 200,000 people without power. getting that number down to 200,000 from over 1 million is serious work. people without power for more than 24 hours. this is what the pg&e map looks like. the outage check. the total, over 90,000 that is significant if you are one of the 90,000. the peninsula, people without power. half moon bay. earlier this evening, pg&e estimates some power will be out until

wednesday. >> we have a generator. we can not complain. we need to keep our food cold. power will be out until wednesday. >> neighbors in the street talking about all of the food going bad. we let them in the garage where we have a spare fridge and hopefully they loaded up their stuff today and it will be good for them. >> crews are cleaning up the damage from a very close call in san jose when a tree came crashing down on the house and caused a gas leak. >> i felt a big shake and noise and crashing sound. and about 10 minutes later, my neighbors were pounding on my door saying, get up, get up, there is a gas leak, we got to get out of here. >> thank god everybody was fine. so, a couple lives here and a dog and they, the tree missed the bedrooms. >> luckily as you heard no one was hurt with that trough coming down. >> if you were one of the

people with the problems it is life disrupting. most people faired okay. you were mentioning you were impressed with how quickly the power came on. >> if you are just thinking about the legistical challenge. restoring customers, over a million people. once you factor in there is more than one person for customer they got their work cut out for them still. but the rain winding down >> that is good. >> for now. there is more in the forecast. let's take a look at what is happening on first alert doppler. lingering showers out there this evening the sense is that, well, we don't need more rainfall. we have a little break in the action that is developing. the loop over the past couple of hours shows a few left over showers falling apart as we hit the back end of the loop. off and on showers possible the next few days, not nearly to the extent we saw over the weekend. let's take a look at the numbers that added up, almost 2 inches in san jose and the peak gusts, over 50 miles

an hour. look at los gatos just the influence the terrain plays in how strong the winds were. for sea level locations, wind gusts in the 40-50 mile-an-hour range. those are tropical storm forced wind gusts, along the coast, half moon bay, 60 mile-an-hour gusts. recording it to the oakland airport. 50 miles an hour to go along with over two inches of rainfall. for the north bay, well, quite a bit of rain. over three inches of rain there. the rain was distributed than some of the atmospheric rivers we have seen because of the direction that the rain came from. streaming from the south instead of coming in from the west that creates a greater wind shadow effect. a quick check for tomorrow, not 0, let's get back to the hour by hour rain chances and put it on the map. pop up shower, during the afternoon, a look at what is happening in southern california coming up in a few

minutes >> paul, as you mentioned, so cal got hit hard as predicted. some had a cascade of problems, flooded neighborhoods and roads and landslides. this was the mess left behind in a beverly hills neighborhood. the mud was so thick it swallowed an suv. closer to home. the roof of a dollar tree collapsed. a cruiser had to push a big rig up on donner summit today where there were lots of spin outs earlier. and this is the last thing you want to see on the road next to you. my gosh, the wind last night caused a big rig to tip over. almost looked like it happened in slow motion. check out the driver of that car who made a very narrow escape. all right, allegiant stadium lit up for super bowl

friend. >> yeah. 11 hours, sara. 11! that flight was supposed to leave at 9:45 in the morning. three airports, two cancellations and a bunch of delays. the day took a bite out of me, kelsi and matt. speaking of matt. he had himself quite a night inside allegiant stadium when the 49ers paid a visit on media night to kick off super bowl week. >> it might be opening night here at super bowl lviii. football is not the focus. instead, it is definitely about the characters and the bizarre questions >> my top three spider-man? >> oh, wow, that is as serious as it got. questions from super heros to which cartoon? >> i was thinking about stitch, he is a psychopath. i feel like i am, too. >> we were not getting insights about the game itself, i was happy to get the inside scoop from chiefs head coach andy

complaint. why the grass might not be greener on the other side of the practice field. as thousands of 9ers fans descend on vegas for the super bowl. many of them are marking the occasion with permanent ink. coming up, we will introduce you to a local tattoo shop owner with a special connection to the bay area . most of the time the l.a. river looks like a sad excuse for a urban stream. this one had the waters raging out of control. to the 90 some people and pets needed emergency rescue.

. . all right, breaking news out of southern california tonight where an amazon delivery truck is teetering on a hillside and threatening to fall down on to a home. l.a. fire out there right now in the rain trying to make sure that does not happen. the storm caused extreme flooding problems down that way. a man stranded in high waters had to climb up to the roof of his car to be rescued. a man who jumped in the l.a. river to save a dog today needed rescuing himself. he got swept away. firefighter his to use a helicopter to pull him out. turns out the dog was just fine. it was a strong

swimmer and got to the edge of the river on its own. this was a really unlucky homeowner near baldwin hills who had a hillside crash through a glass door and into her bedroom where she was sleeping. she and her friends tried all day to keep the place habitable but tonight she is moving out for now. all right, paul, you talk for days about the risk that the storm was going to pose to much of the state. it seems like it lived up to expectations, lots of rain, wind, and flooding. >> yes. for days leading up to this. we are talking about a statewide impact for the brunt of the wind energy directed towards the bay area and central coast and the valley. the snow, the high sierra, then all of that rain that is still falling in southern california. a little break in the heaviest for downtown los angeles right now but the moisture plume that has been just hitting southern california over the past 24-48 hours extends over 1,000 miles

out into the pacific. a genuine atmospheric river in the origins in tropical environments. that kind of moisture being directed towards those east/west mountain ranges, just a recipe for disaster, the mountain ranges efficient getting the water out. 3-1/2 inches in ventura, 4 1/2 for torrennes, over 6 for thousand oaks, downtown l.a. picked up 7 inches of rain. malibu canyon approaching 9 inches of rain. and flooding problems but now, those have diminished because the rain is tapering off. this is the last of the showers quieting down over the past hour or so. we should be calm heading through the rest of tonight. can not rule out the possibility of it any point in time. the showers will be more miss than hit heading through the day on

tuesday. still going to be out there. not a dry day, grab the umbrella on the way out the door just in case. a better chance of light rain will return on wednesday. emphasizing again, light rain. this is not associated with an atmospheric river or anything close to it. it will be a quick hitter that moves through with 1/10th of an inch of rain or less. if you overachieve you might pick up a quarter of an inch. the snow will add up in the sierra. they will only pick up a couple more inches out of the current one and the next one does not give it access to moisture. a few more inches on top of what is accumulating giving the road crews a chance to catch up. here is something that we can use, a break from the rain. the 6-10 day outlook shows a good chance of drier than normal conditions as we head through the weekend and into most of next week. looking farther down-the-line, the 18-14 day outlook taking us through presidents' day weekend shows us wetter than normal conditions, once the break arrives let's enjoy it

while it lasts, a few breaks out there. the temperatures in the middle to upper 40s and 50s. ending up in the 40s by tomorrow morning, chilliest spots in the north bay valleys, dropping down to the upper 30s. a cool day in between the showers, highs running a few degrees below average. the warmest spot, san jose, just short of 60 degrees, generally, middle to upper 50s. not much variation, 59 the warm spot. the cool spot to half moon bay it will be 55 degrees, only a four degree difference between the warmest and coolest extremes, not extreme on either end of the spectrum, generally, a cool february day. similar temperatures in store for us for wednesday and again on thursday. then, we start to warm up a little bit as the rain chances they just go away for a little while. here is the seven-day forecast. showers in the forecast heading through wednesday and even lingering showers on thursday. then, dry weather on friday and saturday and sunday. lots of sunshine

practice [ laughter ] the team was reportedly unhappy with the field at unlv where they are scheduled to practice all week. but media night kyle shanahan said the team will practice as scheduled there this week which is good because commissioner goodell and the league believe that the field was perfectly fine. >> we had 23 experts out there. the union out there, all of them think it is a playable surface. it is softer than what they have practiced on. but that happens. it is well within all of our testing standards. it is something that we think all of our experts as well as neutral field inspectors have all said unanimously that it is a playable field. >> pivot to the nba. where was curry and the warriors tonight? in brooklyn. coming off of a 60 point game on saturday. here we go. fourth quarter, green, dished it. put the biscuit in the basket. put them up by 11.

what happens in vegas is supposed to, very famously, stay in vegas. there are a few things you can bring back home that you can not take back. that including the kind of ink that does not rub off. we are introduced to a vegas tattoo shop owner who is one of the faithful. >> reporter: robert gonzalez tattoo shop, it is a las vegas institution. it has been around since the '80s and now has

multiple locations. but before all of this, robert actually got his start in the bay area. >> everybody i knew tattooed or their parents did when i was growing up. it just came natural. >> reporter: robert was born and raised in san jose. his first tattoo shop was actually in his hometown. >> san marcos. >> he said back then tattoo artists bailey made a living so he packed up and moved to vegas >> vegas is the entertainment capitol of the world. everybody comes here and everyone wants to get tattooed. >> reporter: they have been great for his business but he says even all of these years later he still has a strong connection to the bay and more importantly the 49ers. >> i was born in 1961. i

started watching in '71, '72. >> this past week when they sealed their ticket to the first ever super bowl. robert was ecstatic. >> it is the best thing since sliced bread. i live here, my kids were born and raised here. this is a big what to do for my whole family. >> reporter: to celebrate robert says his shops will be offering all sorts of super bowl-themed tattoo designs. he is already getting hundreds of calls from excited customers. >> they want san francisco, of course, 49ers. some of them go can you give me one that says a heart with swiftie for taylor swift. so far no one has gotten a super bowl prediction tattoo but he is expecting a lot of them later on this week. he did, however, make a little bet with his wife. if the 9ers win, he is going to get his first 9ers tattoo. if the chiefs win,

. hotels in the heart of the strip in vegas, on the strip, they are not usually cheap. >> no. >> you can find deals here and there. >> every once in awhile, i guess. >> the off days. >> if it is not an off day >> it is not. some are going for $2,000 a night plus >> we decided to poke around to see how much they will set you back if you can find one if you have the time to go out there, you want to stay at the bellagio. there are rooms but the basic options, the most basic, average for $1750 a night. like, $1,750. >> i guess if you have to ask you can not afford it, that is the thing. >> yes, i know, paul, i can not afford it. >> no, i can't. >> no, no. >> from saturday to monday it

is $1750 a night. that is $4,000 with all of the fees, that is for two people. you could sneak 30 in there and divide. i don't know if you will get caught or not. the wynn sold out for the weekend. we found a one night with a king bed for friday but the room was $2500 and you are out a full day before the game so what is the point. for the budget option, circus circus $220 up to $270. by comparison, not bad. off of the strip but close, rio, $215 for a regular room. can go up to $2,000 for a suite. >> okay. but $215 is within the relm that is a price a normal human would pay for a hotel room. >> the thing is you add all of the nights up, three nights and the resort fees and the taxes, the parking and everything else it is just not feasible. >> right. >> plus, you know, super bowl tickets are $10,000. >> we are not even talking about that. we are going to stay home and watch from the
