home of super bowl lviii between the 49ers and the chiefs. this is kpix, cbs news bay area. >> the 49ers are days away from taking the field in super bowl lviii against the kansas city chiefs. first, they have to face the media. what brock purdy has to say to his doubters. that has been one business after another shutting down in this bay area neighborhood saying it is simply too dangerous. now, the state is making a move to help crackdown on crime. from crumbling roads to trees toppled onto roadways, we

are getting a closer look at the damage left behind by this weekend's storm. thank you for joining us this afternoon. governor gavin newsom says what is happening in oakland is alarming and unacceptable. now, he is sending the highway patrol to help curb crime. anne makovec has that story. >> a bold move from the governor. he is sending in the reinforcements now. 120 chp officers will be deployed to oakland and other parts of the east bay. they will be working with local law enforcement agencies on cracking down on crime and improving public safety. we saw a similar effort last year in san francisco's tenderloin. oakland police are stepping up their presence in areas prone to crime. we saw patrol cars posted at the gas station along the hackenberg her corridor. a few businesses has shut down the area over crime concerns including this denny's restaurant that shut down for good less than a week ago. you can see the sign is already down and the building is covered in graffiti.

a major intersection in san francisco shut down because of underground fire at third street and mission. smoke was seen billowing up from a manhole cover. no word on when the roads will reopen. crews still cleaning up from the atmospheric river. or chopper cut this tree down. thousands of customers in that area still do not have power. more than 50,000 customers are still in the dark. a landslide in alameda county. crews have closed down a stretch of tesla road in livermore near crossroad. you can see a large part of the lane destroyed. the chp says it is closed until further notice. the mayor of las vegas says the a's should not relocate to the city, despite their plans for a new ballpark there. she thinks they should try to stay in oakland with the fans who love them. the mayor set on a podcast she has an odd feeling about it and does not think they should play on the strip because there is too much traffic there. she later clarified in a tweet that the a's would be welcome in vegas

but that in a perfect world, she said, they would play on the oakland waterfront, a plan that was once in the mix. >> there are a lot of a's fans that agree with her. let's get a check of our forecast. first alert meteorologist darren peck is live in our virtual view studio. >> we are watching the leftovers from this system. there is a steady rain in l.a.. they are dealing with showers that are compounding the rain. same storm we had. as we come in for a closer look, we are not entirely done with that storm either. there are scattered showers around the bay. there is snow falling into the sierra. we can see a few light showers around the edge of it. we can't rule it out that you get an isolated shower that moves through. there is more blue sky than anything else. see what just showed up there? that is yesterday's

forecast and that is the look ahead to tomorrow. let me bring that back again. what we really should do on that is watch that on the big picture. you can see how we say goodbye to the showers from today. right as we get into wednesday, by morning , that is when we will see the next line. it is a cold front that will march across. it gets down to the heart of the bay at 1:00 or 2:00 and then clearing by the time we get the 4:00 or 5:00. that is the timeframe. we will probably get a quarter inch of rain after that. when you look at it on the big picture once again, you can see that line of rain approaching. updated rainfall totals show us a quarter inch. we will put some numbers on there to gauge how much we are likely going to see. nothing like the system that came through over the past few days but a quarter inch of rain through the morning and afternoon. keep that in mind.

don't anticipate any other advisories or issuances from the national weather service. it will get breezy in two different ways. it gets breezy when the rain comes through and then after that, as we get toward wednesday and thursday, the northerly winds will kick in and that will bring some colder air. the colder air is what we want to talk about. here is the snow in the sierra. watch what happens tomorrow. the snow level drops down to 3000 feet. it is not a huge snow maker but at least it is cold. snow level down to around 3500 feet. back here at home, watch what happens as that system comes through. we will import the deeper shades of blue. morning lows are where we will feel that the most. cold front hasn't gotten here yet. the temperatures tomorrow are a lot like what you have been doing. watch what happens when we switch to thursday. the

shades will go a lot lower. if you have been readjusting back and forth to needing the extra blanket at night and the heater on -- maybe you haven't for the last several days. it is going to get colder most noticeably by the time we get to thursday morning. you can see your chance of rain for wednesday with a few showers lingering on thursday. any rain on thursday would be a light, leftover shower that would not amount to much. beyond that, we are in the clear. it will be quiet. even though we will get colder air on thursday morning, by the weekend, we will start warming back up again. back to you. we are your home for super bowl lviii. believe it or not, we are five days out from the

niners taking on the chiefs in las vegas . after going to the spectacle of media night on monday, the niners were in front of the cameras again this afternoon. this time, at their hotel in las vegas. despite leading san francisco to a super bowl in his second season, quarterback brock purdy still has a fair share of doubters who label him a game manager, a quarterback that is a product of the talent around him. purdy has taken that criticism and turned it into confidence. >> it can be a compliment at times. you have a guy that can come in and run the system well. you are good enough to hit guys and make plays. there are 32 teams in the nfl and not a lot of people that can come in and play the quarterback position well. it is a hard job. if you are saying i am a game manager and they don't look flashy and how i do it, that is your opinion and that

is okay. >> such a great attitude. >> purdy says he has been getting a lot of support from 49ers quarterback going into sunday's game and that he wants to live up to their standards. meanwhile, security will be tight for sunday's game. officials are not leaving anything to chance. tens of thousands of people are expected to pack into allegiant stadium. not to mention, so many people who will be in sin city for the festivities. >> the cdc is deploying blackhawk helicopters to protect allegiant stadium airspace and the thousands of fans attending the event. >> not only will the airspace be monitored but super bowl venues all over town will be scanned and searched high explosive detection canines. officials also warning about buying fake merchandise and ticket scams. we will have a live interview on how you can avoid scams leading up to the

super bowl. >> the big game may be all about football but it is hard to have a good watch party without some great food. it is essential. chefs at allegiant stadium are moving beyond the traditional hotdogs and burgers. they have a menu that includes lobster and beef. our gianna franco is in las vegas and met a bartender with roots here in the bay who created a special cocktail just for the faithful. >> tony has been serving up some fancy dips for years. not just here in las vegas but also in san francisco. >> i spent most of my formative years in san francisco. i am a niner fan. back in the steve young days, i was there. >> the 49er faithful who learned how to shake and stir from his family. >> i grew up in a modern family. it was my cousins from davis who opened a bar in 1937

tattoo shop owner who is proud to put niners fans under the needle. >> robert gonzalez's tattoo shop is a las vegas institution. it has been around since the 80s and now has multiple locations. before all of this, robert actually got his start in the bay area. >> it became kind of natural. >> robert was born and raised in san jose. his first tattoo shop was in his hometown. robert says back then, tattoo artists barely made a living. he packed up and moved to vegas.

>> vegas is vegas. it is the entertainment capital of the world. everybody comes here and everybody wants to get tattoos. >> vegas has been great for robert's business but even all these years later, he still has a strong connection to the bay and more importantly, the 49ers. >> i was born in 1961. i started watching in 71, 72. i have been watching football and the niners. >> this last week, when the niners sealed their ticket to las vegas 's first ever super bowl, robert was ecstatic. >> this is the best thing since sliced bread. this is great. i live here. my kids were born and raised here . it is a big what to do for my whole family. >> to celebrate, robert says his shop will be offering all sorts of super bowl themed tattoo designs and he is already getting hundreds of calls from excited customers. >> they want a san francisco, 49ers. some of them just want a heart with swifty, for taylor

oakland's black joy parade has grown each year, becoming a popular destination for the town. how it came from one woman love for her city and community. >> i think it is the best day of the year in oakland.

>> inside alicia greenwell's home, there is a wall that defines the past six years of her life. each poster and all of the memories and footage and video were so beautiful. >> highlight in a moment in time each year. >> 2022 was our fifth year as an organization. >> the black joy parade is 100% my baby. >> it is the parade born from black lives matter and occupied to a community fighting for social justice. >> that is the only time you saw a lot of us together, fighting against the system and having to be on the frontlines. i just wanted to have a moment where it wasn't that, where we were gathered into big groups for a celebration.

>> it was during that first celebration in 2018 when 14,000 people showed up when alicia new she had given birth to something unique and special. >> i remember the very first one. there were people crying. we were like, who are all these people? that is when we realized we struck a nerve with the something we needed and so many other people. >> the dance team has performed in the parade since day one. >> it is hands-down my favorite event in oakland. >> her group celebrating and teaching the historically black university and colleges, attracting a number of black teen girls. >> it is like the style. it is like the pizzazz. it is part of our culture.

>> the black joy parade giving them the perfect platform. >> it really inspired me and allowed me to say we can dream bigger for oakland. we are having aunties and uncles bringing this new wave of kids up . what do we want to show them? >> it has grown like a baby. i get obsessive about it like a baby. >> a parade she gave birth to. and, a world she now imagines for her own daughter. >> i am due the week before black joy parade this year. i might have two babies at the same time. >> i am transitioning this room from my sanctuary to my child sanctuary. it felt like the right place. i also love the idea of my child looking up and seeing all of these beautiful, positive posters. i could not imagine getting to grow up in black joy parade existence. >> existing not just for her
