sara tonight. the 9ers are getting rest before the first practice in vegas tomorrow. no rest earlier today when the team met the media including a lot of super bowl first timers. vern will have more from them later. he is live in vegas right now. ordinarily i would just say hey, vern, but in this case i feel compelled to say, hello, friend. >> oh, thank you. the jim nantz reference. let's get the hype machine going, shall we? when we are at the super bowl it is so much more than a game. celebrities are everywhere. throughout the week, including broadcasting legend jim nantz who will call the game right here. matt lively caught up with him and got the back story on his signature call. >> reporter: jim nantz is set to put on the headset and call his seventh super bowl for cbs on sunday. when he does he will begin the broadcast in a

you in a little bit. remember, we are your home for super bowl lviii. catch the game here on sunday and streaming on paramount plus. another bump in the road tonight for san francisco's robo taxi exparent. this time a self-driving car collided with a cyclist. it happened this afternoon. the cyclist pedaled away with a few scratches, that is good news, and waymo said a large truck blocked the cyclist from view as the car waited at a four way stop. as soon as the car detected the bike it hit the brakes. the parent company, alphabet, says they are working with the police to investigate. it has been trying to expand across the bay area and los angeles and has been having more success than the top competitor, cruise. the state recently pulled the plug on cruise driverless permitting claiming the company withheld information about a crash in

october when a robo taxi dragged a person after another car flew into its path. moving now to oakland. not many people were grabbing gas tonight. earlier chopper spotted opd posted up at four different gas stations along the crime-plagued corridor near the airport. we are told the police were investigating at least two robberies today. just days ago we spoke with the owner of one of the stations after an attack on tourists from texas. >> it is crazy. i mean, it is a daily thing. has not been a day since we opened up in august that we don't have an incident. >> lauren toms joins me now. it is so bad that the governor is getting involved, again. >> reporter: now for the second time in six months, devon, in august, he sent six chp officers to oakland now he is

sending 20 times that amount. >> reporter: the governor says he is hoping to build off some of the success similar deployment had across the bay in san francisco. >> i think there is a strong message from all of us. number one, we want to make sure that, people are committing crimes there has to be consequences. >> opd crime stats show a 37% spike in robberies and a 27% increase in burglaries in 2023 compared to 2022. >> they just look around all of the time and then they see pd leaves for a second, that is when they take a chance. >> reporter: enough to take a local in-n-out its first restaurant closure, ever. and dennys, it looks like it has been abandoned for years. >> the oakland airport, the corridor it is a gateway into the east bay and we have got to invest more and have dedicated regional statewide collaboration on how we are

going to support and strengthen that corridor. >> the chp deployment is not only meant to help local agencies to crack down on criminals but detour more from jumping on the bandwagon. >> it prevents people from making those decisions and especially in a city where people sense that it is a free for all. >> reporter: not all are welcoming the additional forces. cat brooks with the antipolice project says the surge of crime is wrong. an influx of officers could backfire on oakland's own citizens. >> it am be 120 officers. i guarantee you there will be a lot more violence against our community members. more police presence, more unnecessary contact between the communities and law enforcement, more police violence. >> all right, my question is, is it just the benefit of more officers or are there things that the chp can do and do better than oakland police? >> reporter: yes and yes. chp has brood powers across the

state and among those 120 officers we can expect to see narcotics officers, k-9 units as well. now, remember, opd has a no-chase policy, a strictly enforced no chase policy that does not apply to chp officers. so, a lot of those pursuits that we don't see right now in oakland to go after some of those thieves we might now see under this chp patrol.. >> just, just the obvious benefit of those additional 120 officers on the street policing the areas, thank you very much. thousands of bay area pg&e customers are spending a third night in the dark after a powerful weekend storm. we spotted crews cutting trees near skyline plaza where a local liquor store owner says his power has been off since 2:00 p.m. on sunday. >> all of it melt. all of this ice cream, all of these ice creams are melted, too. ben and

evacuated from these cliff side apartments near santa barbara after coastal erosion left their balconies dangling on the bluff. believe it or not the people who live there were allowed to return several hours later after the balconies were roped off. now just a matter of shoring up the cliff side. heavy rain in san diego and there was a tornado warning for parts of san diego county. we are getting more rain here in the bay area? >> we are. i don't want people to get caught off guard on this. a separate system coming in tomorrow. it will be very different, nowhere near as intense as what we just had. i want to do just a little bit of an overview on this. this system put together differently. if we go to the bigger picture. see it developing right here? that is a trough developing. what happened on sunday night was an area of low pressure that came

at us from this way. but, it did not develop until it was right off of the coast and went through rapid intensecasion right off of the coastline. we felt every bit of that. that is why, that bomb syclone that intensified so rapidly was so intense. it is not one. this is just a garden variety cold front that is going to come through. we can track it. a line of rain. we did it at the top of the newscast. watch it come together. orderly fashion, timing it out for tomorrow. a couple things, the rain gets here after the commute. look at the time. 9:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m., we are seeing the rain coming down 101. coming down to the city. by the time we have gotten to 10:00 a.m., greatest population center, over the city, peninsula, east bay shore and up towards like the deablo valley. 10:00 to 1:00. works its way down to the south bay.

1:00, 2:00 it clears the south bay. might be a few showers, really from 2:00 on you will see more blue sky tomorrow. pretty good clouds showing yes, the possibility is for a cell to come in with a brief downpour. this is like the last two storms we have done but in miniature. in terms of the way it will go. a quarter of an inch of rain. some of the latest forecast models say you could get more. we are going to brood brush it. and the wind, while it will be part of this, the winds will pick up in the morning tomorrow, to about 20-25 mile-an-hour gust and then probably more noticeably. once the storm passes, look at the northerly winds, that is tomorrow evening. that will feel cold. they are coming straight out of the north and add a bit of a windchill factor on the system. if you look at what is coming with the system, look at what it does to the sierra. got snow up there today. tomorrow, the snow level, drops. better get out of the way. coming all of the way

down here. 3,000 feet. good, not many winter storms have been able to get that low this year. so, it has relatively cold air with it and we can visualize that. part of the system. so, the next question is, how cold will it get? does not look terribly cold. noticeably cooler. let's do comparison. morning lows for tomorrow. before the cold front gets here. no different. this is lower 40s. how did the last few nights feel at your place? that is how tomorrow will feel like. we are going to lose the wednesday morning lows, instead, we will put on the thursday morning lows, and i will tell you, the general theme here is, each one of these on average is five degrees cooler. does not sound like much. it is just enough that now some of the numbers are getting into the 30s. livermore, number going down to 38. that is not it. there will be a northerly breeze from 10-15 miles an hour. added a

windchill factor. thursday morning will feel cooler. it probably is one of the other aspects not to get overlooked in the whole thing. one last thing, when we look down after, after the chance of rain tomorrow, we will get a nice long break. i will show you the long-range forecast. and, this is now starting to take shape in a more impressive way. look at the date. we are looking at the last week and a half, the last two weeks of this month. at that point, more focused on the last week of february. there is growing confident now. we will see the precipitation totals go up. a generalized way of looking at it. the way the climate prediction center puts it out. a probability map. all they do is they are just telling you the deeper the shade of green, the higher the confidence we have, precipitation in that time frame is going to come in above average. that is all it says, when you look at the long-range models you can see the last week of february. the storms line up. pointing at us. more

. when a 9ers super fan from the bay area took a gamble on opening a bar in vegas he could really only dream about the payoff he is about to get for the weekend. we go inside right in the middle of raider nation. >> it may be quiet in joey's tavern here in vegas right now. this place is expected to be rocking all weeklong. this is the official 9ers bar here in the city. it is also the year long home of the north las vegas faithful. the owner told me, though, he is expecting this weekend to see 9ers fans from across the country. even the world. this is the space right
