an nfl pro? from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hello, i'm sara donchey, the 9ers hit the practice field for the first time today while a team legend welcomed the fans. >> and there it is, ladies and gentlemen, the vince lombardi trophy. >> none other than jerry rice delivered the lombardi trophy to the nfl experience. the 49ers are seeking their 6th, their first since 1995 when steve young and a surprisingly nervous rice, led the team to 29 title. >> playing that game in my head the night before. going over and over on those plays and, got up the next morning, i could not eat anything for breakfast. i was nervous. i was nervous during preseason. you know, i always wanted to be at my best.

700,000-square-foot building. but, any way, i digress. now, 49ers back on the practice field. away from the noise surrounding the super bowl right here in las vegas. while the stars are all around there are some guys on that field that are not talked about as much. the offensive line. so, let's go to matt lively who talked to the guys that protect the brock star. >> the 49ers offensive weapons get a lot of success. we call them the purdy protectors. >> it recently just came out. the best quarterback on the roster. >> long before brock purdyy took the snaps as the 49er starter. this team knew about the talents and the offensive line was not shocked. >> i was not surprised. i expect them to play well.

. a luxury cruise ship that pulled out of san francisco a few hours ago took a medical mystery with it. about 140 people on the queen victoria came down with a gastrointestinal illness on the third leg of their 55-day trip around the world. the cdc is investigating that. the ship was docked in san francisco for several days and sick passengers and crewmembers were isolated. unclear if any of them disembarked here. it sailed out of the bay before

8:00 p.m. bound for hawaii. a man is accused of selling pink cocaine out of his donut shop. they were tipped off about a narcotic's operation in yum yum donut. they found bags of what is called pink cocaine. it is a synthetic drug. mixed with meth, cocaine and opioids. pg&e now says that weekend winter storm was the worst they have seen in 30 years. more than 1.4 million customers lost power across the service area. some outages are so remote they have to use helicopters to access the lines. at last check, 90 minutes ago, 15,000 bay area customers are still in the dark. most of them are in the south and the north bay. obviously incredibly frustrating for people who have

been dealing with that for days. paul, you mentioned a brief power outage. it gets to the point where it is really, really difficult to stay in your home. >> right. power is out for days on end. just incredible legistical feat to get power restored to that many people in a short amount of time. i know people give them grieve but the crews have been working their tails off and still have the work cut out for them. still a couple showers left over. those should come to an end over the next few hours, showers popping up tomorrow, those like the ones yesterday, they will be few and far between. then,a i driveway pattern takes over. beginning friday, continuing through the weekend and into much of next week. several consecutive dry days, the temperatures will warm up as well. let's take a look. the loop, over the last couple of hours, showing the straggling showers, still in the process of quieting down. the process should wrap up here over the next couple of hours, we should be dry for the morning commute

with a mix of showers over head. showers popping back up. not likely the first half of the day. most of that is after it warms up a little bit. in the afternoon, a few of those radar freckles showing up. they are going to be, again, more miss than hit. after the sun goes down, the showers quiet down as well. we will be back to the mix of clouds and sunshine as we finish off the workweek on friday and head into the weekend. not a lot of additional snow for the sierra, either. snowing for much of the high country. tracking a couple inches of snow overnight into early morning, then, they, also, will get a break from the chances, for a change, good travel conditions if you want to make your way up there and take advantage of all of the fresh powder as we head into the weekend. long-range, well, we don't have rain chances after tomorrow in the seven-day forecast. when you look beyond that, the 8-14 day outlook shows a significant chance of wetter than normal conditions for the bay area and most of

southern california, this takes us through presidents' day weekend and the following week, a long way down-the-line. something will monitor while we enjoy the stretch of dry weather that is about to settle in. seeing the cloud breaks. the temperatures are around the cool side, in the 40s across the board. 42 degrees in santa rosa, dipping down to a couple degrees above freezing by the morning, 34 degrees in santa rosa, 35 in napa, mostly middle to upper 30s to around 40 degrees inland with lower 40s around the bay. sounds chilly, it is chilly. a few degrees below average this time of the year. high temperatures, a few degrees below average, 4-6 degrees to be specific. that is the warm spot for more accurately the least chilly spot. only 53 degrees along the coast in half moon bay, most of the north bay also in the middle portion of the 50s by

thursday afternoon. these are the coolest temperatures that we are going to see through the duration of the seven-day forecast, everybody is in for a warm up as we look to the weekend and into next week. one more chance of light showers tomorrow, lower than a 50/50 chance overall. keep the umbrella and jacket handy just in case. drying out, mix through the weekend. next week, the temperatures gradually warming up a few degrees above average by wednesday with the rain chances holding off until beyond the seven-day forecast, vern? >> all right, straight ahead in sports, we ran into steve young. the former 49er and hall of fame quarterback and man, he could not be prouder that the 9ers are back in the super bowl! plus, the warriors, picked up another big win on the road. we
