when i talk about my dad, he wore number 34, and he has been with me the entire time. he has been with me every step of the way. but i know there was another 34 that was helping me. this man, walter payton. [applause] he has done so much on and off the field, and he has changed so many lives that now i have an opportunity to be a part of such a great fraternity in the walter payton finalists and winners. i know i can carry this on and take the rock. i can't run as fast as walter and i won't try, but i will make sure i do my part. i want to give a big shout out to every nominee. every winter here today

catch flights to vegas to nfl legends in tuxes on the the red car, to the niners themselves jolted out of bed. the faithful are flying into las vegas from as far away from australia. >> we lived in san francisco a few years ago when our son was nine, and he took him to candle stick park for a game. >> reporter: are you going to the actual game? >> yes! >> he'll have some jet lag to sleep off. and hopefully his hotel is quieter than the niners' this morning when a false fire alarm started blaring at 6:00 a.m. we expect an emissary from the chiefs hotel across the street. but brock says it didn't bother him. >> i was getting up at the time, so it is what it is. but i know a couple of guys were trying to sleep in. >> and as the niners chiefs rest up for the big day, today was a big night for the entire

nfl. vern glenn was on the red carpet where it's now official. vern glenn, what can you tell us? >> reporter: i can tell you this, as you look at this sight over my shoulder, look at that! it was a former 49er great with every reason to celebrate tonight. former 49er linebacker patrick willis was elected to the pro football hall of fame, part of a seven-man class for 2024 to be enshrined in canton, ohio august 3rd. willis played all eight seasons in san francisco and reached the pro bowl seven times. and i was able to catch up with the hall of famer number 378 after the announcement. all right, we have talked about it for so much, and then it's finally happened. your immediate

years ago, and they want some payback on sunday. 21st amendment brewing clearly remembers what happened in 2020 when the 49ers watched the super bowl victory slip away to the kansas city chiefs. >> we had to give them lots and lots of beer, and also we had to wear kansas city gear. i think that was, you know, the worst part of it all. >> reporter: so in 2024, 21st amount didn't have to think twice when boulevard brewing company reached out about making a bet again. >> four years later, here we are again. and they said hey, you want to bring this back up? i was like oh, oh yes we do! >> we like having fun with our friends, we like supporting other brewery, and the super bowl just gives us another opportunity to do that in a fun

way. >> reporter: while there will be beer and bragging rights on the line, there are really no losers. each brewery vowed to make a donation to a local charity. >> we're supporting the 49ers foundation. they're a great organization, one that helps youth in certain communities. it's a great opportunity to start giving back to them. >> we're going to ask for a charitable donation to a local nonprofit in kansas city that supports and empowers women in sports. >> reporter: 21st amendment is feeling confident that the 49ers can close the deal this time around, but chiefs kingdom is certain kc will be coming home with another ring. we do all know the 49ers are going to win this time, right? >> well, did you watch the last game? because that's what everyone thought up until the 4th quarter. even in kansas city, no one is going to turn their tv off until the game is over. >> reporter: while there might be a debate over who will take

home the trophy, the bet between the breweries is a win-win situation for the charities and also for the breweries who get to expose their brand to customers other a different region. >> this rivalry with a friendly wager, you know, it's all about beering and helping out charity, and just fun. >> it's indicative of craft brewing at large, how well we get along. when it's all said and done, we're going to drink a beer whether it's theirs or ours, and we'll cheers to the champs. there's already a plan tonight for crowd control when fans pour out of bars. streets in the mission will be blocked off starting around 5:00. it didn't do much a few weeks ago to hold back the sea of niners fans. cbs is your home for super bowl 58. catch the game here on kpix and streaming on paramount plus.

whatever this guy was trying to do, he didn't do it. the guy whose attempt to steal a plane bombed on a bay area beach. >> there's a kangaroo in my apartment complex. >> it's kind of a large kangaroo. and from the only in florida file, a scene that looks like it should have been set in australia. a few lingering showers across the bay area today, but those quieted down a couple of hours ago. the loop over the past few hours has really been pretty blank on first alert doppler. the showers will leave us alone the next several days. details on the dry weekend forecast coming up in first alert weather. and it's a classic couple dilemma, super bowl edition. one ticket for one married couple, and you don't even want to know how much it cost to buy another one.

a lot of people know the legend of d. b. cooper, the man that hijacked a plane in the 70s, parachuted out, and never got caught. this guy was nowhere near as smooth. he nose dived onto the beach in half moon bay today in a plane stolen from the palo alto airport. police say the man that piloted the plane was caught trying to walk away from the crash. he's been identified as a 50-year-old man from miami. investigators have

no idea what he was trying to do. >> i've been doing this almost 20 years, and this is a first for me. i do not know if this person is a pilot or who this person is, but he managed to steal an airplane. as wild as this is, we're glad that no one was injured, no one on the beach was injured. >> the plane is registered to a company in san mateo. 20 miles up the peninsula, a person was hurt when a run away muni bus crashed. it crashed into a sidewalk and flattened some signs. no word on how it all happened. speaking of odd things getting loose, this story falls under the umbrella of weird florida news. when calls started coming in about a kangaroo hopping around the pool deck at a tampa apartment complex, 911 dispatchers probably thought they were being punked. >> 911, do you need police, fire, or medical?

>> i guess police. there's a kangaroo in my apartment complex. >> there's a loose kangaroo. >> i actually see a kangaroo. >> it's kind of a large kangaroo. >> we have it closed in the pool gated area. >> is that a police call? i don't know. a sheriff's helicopter tracked the kangaroo hopping around the pool. even stranger, it didn't come from a zoo. deputies reunited it with its owner after checking that they had the right paperwork. all right, we knew that would be in florida. >> you have to think they'll be checking that owner's paperwork for any other things that may be -- >> yes, other miscellaneous things. >> sources of income, perhaps. >> i don't know if he's filed any tax returns in awhile. all right, we're drying out finally? yes, a dry pattern will be setting up for the next several days. high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere, that's going to be edging

closer to the west coast and helping to suppress rain chances for the next several days. clearing skies overhead right now. temperatures are dropping quickly. down to 40 already in livermore, just above in concord and santa rosa. still upper 40s right now in san francisco and san jose. but temperatures will continue falling the rest of the night. we'll see some locally dense fog developing. the worst of that, the worst visibilities inland in the east bay. some fog will spill from the delta into the inland valleys, but i don't think it will take long to dissipate. 9:00, 10:00 at the latest. mix and clouds and sun for the rest of the day. chilly start to the day. temperatures mostly mid to upper 30s inland. low 40s around the bay and coast. those numbers anywhere from three to six degrees below average. high temperatures tomorrow also about three to six degrees below average. very similar to where we were today, falling just short of 60 in san jose. but that 59 degrees will be the warm spot for the entire bay

area. most of us in the middle portion of the 50s. this time of year, closer to mid-february, we're supposed to be around or slightly above 60, but even the warmest spots fall a little short tomorrow. these are the coolest temperatures in the entire seven-day forecast. with the dry weather settling in throughout the weekend and next week, we're in for a gradual warm up. no record setting high temperature, nowhere close to it. but just a couple degrees above above average, especially by the middle of next week. but eventually the forecast becomes more unsettled. let's look at our rain chances, and we'll focus on next week. starting the clock on sunday, you can see the rain chances go up beginning wednesday night into thursday. that's kind of a slight chance. i think that system will fall apart on the way in. but later next week, there's going to be a much better chance of not only rain, but also wind. early signs are that we could be looking at

another atmospheric river headed toward the west coast. of course, where it goes is still up in the air. we're still in the seven to ten-day time frame where we're really just evaluating. as we get closer and closer to the pattern actually arriving, that's when we start to zero in on the details. but it's something to keep in mind because it looks like it will be arriving for a holiday weekend, president's day weekend. we'll keep you updated over the next several days. enjoy the dry weather while it lasts. temperatures back to close to average saturday. just a tiny below normal sunday with highs mostly in the upper 50s. then we slowly warm up. temperatures should hit the low to mid-60s tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. we bring a chance of a shower into the forecast already on thursday, but again looks like the best chance will hold off until after the scope of the seven-day forecast. all right, coming up in

vern glenn not far away. he's bundle up and ready to report. >> reporter: let's get into it tonight. i mean, the nfl, it is the gift that keeps on giving. we told you about patrick willis getting into the happen of fame earlier in the show. but he wasn't the only niner honored tonight. running back christian mccaffrey won the league's offensive player of the year award at tonight's nfl honors. cmc led the league in rushing and had 21 total touchdowns this season. over to the nba, how about steph curry putting on a show tonight in indianapolis? he scored just nine points last night, but tonight it was a different story. made his first seven threes. eight in the first half, 10 of 11 shooting. he had 29 points going into half time. golden state were up 70-58 at

the nfl suddenly had to spin in a different direction for its in game entertain. dj tiesto was supposed to be the first ever to dj a super bowl, but he announced today he can't perform due to a family emergency. the dutch dj and record producer said it was a tough decision to miss the super bowl, but family comes first. fans won't miss out on an edm set, though. cascade will replace tiesto come sunday. he tweeted out that as

a kid growing up in chicago, he watched the super bowl every year with his family and is happy to be a part of it and called it absolutely mind blowing. and let's not forget the half time show. usher is the headliner, and the eight-time grammy winner hinted he'll have some surprise guests. he appeared as a special guest with the black eyed peas at the super bowl half time show in 2011. he said that's when he started dreaming of being the headliner himself. >> las vegas has been amazing for me. having 100 sold out shows in residency, and have the next one with the crescendo, which is the super bowl with apple, this has really, really given my time here in las vegas an incredible button at the end. >> we'll also see pre-game performances from post malone, andra day, and reba. the country music star will sing the national anthem. >> it means that i get to sing
