chiefs. this is kpix, cbs news bay area. spirits are high as hundreds of the faithful head to vegas for super bowl weekend. some of them are getting the party started while they were still at their gate. a look at how much it will cost the faithful for a weekend in sin city , even if they're not going to the game itself. what san francisco is doing to make sure any postgame celebrations don't get out of hand. thank you for joining us on this friday afternoon. we are your home for super bowl lviii and we are about 48 hours away from kickoff. the 49ers taking on the chiefs in vegas and we got you covered on everything leading up to the big game. first, a look at today's new headlines. and magnitude

5.7 earthquake shook hawaii's big island today. it struck a little less than three hours ago on the southeastern coast. a tsunami is not expected although there have been several aftershocks. there were no immediate reports of serious damage. there was also a 4.6 earthquake in southern california this afternoon. ganged charges have been added for the three suspects accused of killing security guard kevin uchida. he was shot in oakland in 2021. the third and final suspect was arrested last month in missouri and was brought back to alameda. now, da pamela price says the original prosecutors made some mistakes. her office resubmitted charges and all three men will now face trial together. in the new complaint that was filed today by my office and approved by me, all three members face gang and gun enhancements for the first time since 2021. >> the suspects are each charged with murder, attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. kevin nishida's widow commented on price 's first day.

>> they added the gang enhancements. i am very happy to hear that. the gang enhancement is not what killed kevin. it was the actual gun enhancement that killed kevin. >> the three suspects are due in court next month to enter pleas. the each face up to life in prison.'s muni blames yesterday's bus crash in daly city on a runway coach. it happened just before 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of mission street. muni says the driver got off the bus to inspect a door and then the bus started moving on its own and then crashed across a parking lot structure. one person was injured. let's get a check of your first alert forecast from meteorologist jessica burch to find out what is in store for big super bowl weekend. >> this is such a treat for us heading into this we can. our satellite imagery showing dry conditions widespread throughout the bay area. you know why that is important? we

will be seeing sunshine widespread throughout the bay area. in san francisco, if you are heading out to chinatown. plenty of sunshine in the bay. plenty of sunshine into sunday too as we take on the chiefs and win and take that super bowl trophy. we are celebrating in vegas and there was a lot of fun to. we are seeing wetter than normal conditions. as we take a look at our models, it is starting to indicate wetter conditions are wednesday, thursday, heading into next weekend. let's enjoy what we have right now. speaking of right now, our daytime highs today, talk about upper 50s in areas of san francisco, across the beautiful bay bridge. we are also talking about mid-50s in oakland, tracking off into the east bay and all the way down into the santa clara valley where it will be light for us with the winds. we will only warm up more and more into

this weekend. let me show you the next seven days. early next week, more 60s in the forecast . heading into sunday, it will be a little bit cooler but still dry. that is great news if you are planning on doing any barbecuing or festivities as we gear up and take on that super bowl. it will be an amazing forecast to get some fresh air. maybe you want to go on a hike. whatever you are doing, even if it is community service, saturday and sunday with dry conditions. low 60s along our bay area too. great weather should be no delays for the faithful at sfo today. they are all decked out in their best red and gold as they had to vegas for super bowl weekend. the parties started well before they got to vegas. they were dance parties and plenty of swag. everyone

excited to get to vegas to cheer on the red and gold whether they are going to the game or not. >> it adds to the excitement. they made it that much better. >> this will be my third super bowl. i am hoping that third time is a charm. >> definitely a different tax bracket. i am going out to get the vibe. >> the tickets are pricey. the faithful are not the only ones taking over sfo. we saw plenty of them heading to vegas from oakland this morning as well. with the airport itself decked out in red and gold. let's go to vegas right now where all of the faithful are headed with half 1 million other football fans. only 65,000 of those are actually going to the game . even if they're not going to the game, this weekend is set to be extremely expensive for everyone going there, especially families. >> a vegas vacation can be affordable but not this weekend and not for a family of five. >> we have not found good deals

yet. >> this family from arkansas could not find enough nights at a hotel in their price range. >> we are staying at three different hotels. >> 49ers fans paid a visit to the spear in monday's opening night event but at the moment, have no plans to attend the game. >> do you have tickets to the game? >> no. we saw the prices. we looked at them but that was it. >> this has been one of the most in demand superbowls, ever. >> stubhub! says ticket prices for the game have recently dropped from $10,000 a few days ago to about 5500 but he warns inventory is dropping. snagged up by people who can easily drive to vegas. >> 10% sales overnight then we had the day before. >> one place visitors can save money is on transportation. the strip is only four miles long. from here to allegiant stadium, a two-mile walk. >> if walking is not your thing, use the monorail.

starting at $13, you can get a day pass that will drop you at stations up and down the las vegas strip . it can be your best friend. >> let's not forget about food costs for a family. experts say the best bet is a vegas mainstay, the all-you-can-eat buffet. >> you can't beat the buffet. city officials don't want any flags thrown for excessive celebrations this weekend. mayor london breed led a pep rally of sorts today. while she says she is excited for the celebratory atmosphere, she does not want things to get too rowdy. this is footage from the mission district after the niners won the nfc championship. officers will be out in force. >> i want you to celebrate. i want you to have a good time but i also want our city to be safe. after super bowl is over, we've still got to walk these streets. we don't want to take a joyous occasion and turn it into something else.

>> there is a plan for crowd control during and after the super bowl. freeway ramps and several streets in and around the mission will be blocked off starting at 5:00. that includes north and southbound lanes on 101 at cesar chavez as well as northbound lanes admission. both directions of 280 will be closed at geneva avenue as well as the northbound lanes at san jose avenue. the super bowl is typically the most watched event every year in the u.s. and advertisers are paying record prices to push their products. companies are dishing out $70 million for one 32nd -- 30 second ad. >> ♪ >> this is going to be so good. halftime show, another big draw. usher is this year's headliner. the eight time grammy award winner says he has been dreaming of this moment since he made his first halftime appearance during the

black eyed peas show back in 2011. other performances will include post malone, lift every voice and sing and country music legend reba mcentire will be performing the national anthem. a legendary bay area rock group performed at the halftime at the nfc championship game before the 49ers roared back to beat the lions. a twist on their iconic song led a red and gold rally. >> january 28, levi's stadium was packed with fans and legends. >> let's go faithful! >> we are going to vegas. >> the niners were set to win their eighth nfc championship but something was off, way off. >> it was embarrassing. >> the first half ended with the lions on top 24-7. >> season ticket holder and musician were stunned.

can be too much for some people which is why our gianna franco shows us why one venue is creating an environment so everyone can enjoy the super bowl experience. >> reporter: thomas and alex are from san jose and are season ticket holders. they are looking forward to a few fun filled days in las vegas and appreciate there are events that include all ages. >> this is great. a lot of stuff to do. a lot of stuff for the kids. especially in a city like vegas. >> as fun as it is, the nfl experience can be a little loud and noisy at times with lots of bright lights. for some children and adults, that can be overwhelming. that is where the culture center comes in. >> our goal is to support those with sensory needs or those that identify as

time, they can become a safety hazard. bradley blackburn speaks to an expert about what to do whether you are hosting or just chowing down. >> whether it is wings or subs or chips and dip on super bowl sunday, snacks are the real champs. >> my favorite super bowl food, queso. >> i love chili . >> marilyn carruthers is our food safety referee. she knows the rules of the game. >> i am focused on food safety for super bowl and making sure nobody gets sick. >> more than 100 million americans are expected to throw a super bowl party or attend one this year and foodborne illness is no joke. it could cause digestive trouble or lead to hospitalization or death. as they say, the best defense is a good offense. >> keep your hot foods hot and your cold foods cold. you can put meatballs and other dips and things in a slow cooker to keep them hot. that will keep

the foods at a safe temperature. >> food can go foul faster than you think. the usda says if you can control the temperature, there is a two hour limit. after that, it needs a timeout, back in the fridge or oven. >> a smaller bowl of something out first and then you can rotate that out after your two hour timeframe. when you rotate things out, you also have to rotate out or clean the utensil. >> set a two hour timer on your phone to remind you and use a food thermometer to make sure food reaches a safe internal temperature. another tip? had a bottle of hand sanitizer by the buffet since so many favorites are finger foods. >> a game plan to keep food safe so no one gets sick this super bowl sunday. >> when the party is over, put the leftovers in the fridge very quickly. the usda says they can be kept safely for up to four days.

lifelong fan who has had senior tickets for more than 40 years, martha says she has been there each time the niners became nfl champions. >> i was at two of the five superbowls they won. i did not go to the last two so they did not win. >> while she may not be there for the next appearance in vegas on sunday, she sees something in this team that reminds her of the previous squad that saw success at the super bowl. while she was born in kansas city, she became a niner pen at the age of 12 . >> they are fighters but they're classy about doing it. that is what i like. >> the senior community in redwood city has plenty of decorations for the niners that these ladies stand out among the faithful for bringing a little more elegance to the red and gold. while many of them

were lucky to see one of the all-time greats in niner history leave the bay area to victory, they have got a lot of love for the new quarterback and the incredible run he has had this season. >> it is amazing what he has done. the whole team is right behind him. >> they are a group of golden girls in a sea of red and with a long history of cheering on the niners comes the wisdom to know what sets the team apart this year. >> we are looking forward to winning the super bowl. they are like a family, just like we are here. >> an approach for all to live by and hope fully help the niners win one more football game on sunday. >> martha tells us she plans to watch the super bowl in her own apartment all by herself. hopefully that is part of the winning strategy to re-create the luck she brought the team during its five super bowl wins. another reminder. we are your home for super bowl lviii. you can catch the game this
