so much. we'll get to that in a second. let's talk about what's happening now, beginning with a view of a beautiful sunset in progress across the bay area. we'll look at the time lapse to around 5:00 this evening, some fair weather clouds over the bay area, no showers today and the current view shows the lit up horizon as the sun is just now going down. dry weekend in store. we'll emphasize that over and over again because of the novelty of such a concept. near average high temperatures, just a little warmer than today. we'll see plenty of sunshine saturday, just passing clouds sunday and then the mix of clouds and sunshine carries us into next week, but eventually the showers do return by the latter half of next week, more on that in a second. let's focus on the good news. nice view of san jose with the mix of clouds and sunshine overhead. temperatures today were a couple degrees below average, 3 to 5 degrees below normal across most of the bay area, mid- to upper 50s, 55 at half moon bay, 59 degrees in
5:47 pm
san jose, only a 4-degree difference. we'll see a similar spread in temperatures over the weekend into next week, not much variation from the coast to around the bay to farther inland. temperatures tonight a little more variation, mid- to upper 30s to around 40 degrees inland with low to mid-40s saturday morning around the bay and along the coast. temperatures warm up, nice weather for the chinese new year festival in chinatown saturday, temperatures reaching the upper 50s to around 60 degrees in san francisco. we should see plenty of sunshine throughout the day. let's fill in the rest of the map, look at those forecast high temperatures for saturday. you'll be warmest in the santa clara valley and north bay, 63 degrees in san jose, although not quite as warm in los gatos and morgan hill, right around 60 degrees inland in the east bay and around the bay just below 60 in fremont, just above in redwood city, at 60 in oakland and san francisco. the warmest temperatures will be in the north bay because of the downslope winds. that allows the air to be compressed and
5:48 pm
warms it up. it will be noticeable, low to mid-60s already on saturday. let's look at the ten-day temperature outlook. we have warmer temperatures in store by the middle of next week, tuesday through friday looking like the warmest days for a while with san jose's temperatures the warmest across the entire region up into the mid-60s several consecutive days. that ends as an active weather pattern shapes up. we're already looking ahead to presidents' day weekend and the extended hazards outlook from the climate prediction center paints a high risk of heavy rainfall across much of california. it does look like an atmospheric river will hit somewhere along the coast. this far down the line the details are still out of focus. we'll keep an eye on those. also an elevated threat of high winds across most of california and in the sierra already a high risk of heavy snowfall as well. any plans you have for the holiday weekend, it's something to file away in the back of your mind. don't need to adjust outdoor plans yet, but keep in mind the weather will get back into a more
5:49 pm
active pattern as we hit presidents' day weekend. in the short term, nice calm conditions the next several days. we'll see more cloud cover beginning to arrive wednesday, but we should stay dry still wednesday, a chance of light showers thursday and then we bring the first round of rainfall into the bay area late friday, really primarily friday night. it's the last day of the seven-day forecast, plenty of time between now and then. we switch over to juliette goodrich live in las vegas to see what's ahead at 6:00. >> what a week it's been. we've talked about how the team is preparing for the big game on sunday. they're on lockdown. they can't go out. they got to hyper focus. at 6:00 we focus on the fans who are having a blast, how the bay area faithful are cleaning out party stores, as they should, stocking up on supplies for their super bowl parties. plus they have seen the 9ers win five super bowls, why this senior fan club says they are confident a sixth trophy is
