challenge that gave us david and goliath vibes. and they're the eagle-eyed team flying high above allegiant watching over the game so fans can feel safe on the ground. from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. the weekend has arrived. not the weekend. this weekend. and it is all about where you are going to watch and who you're going to watch with. super bowl 58 less than two days away, and not only will there be dozens of watch parties, but every kind you can think of. feel the pull of wanting to go out but also want to kick back on your couch? andrea nakano found the watch party for you in oakland. >> reporter: this is the new parkway theater, and as a theater, it obviously shows movies. but this sunday, this place is going to transform
2:08 am
into a cozy super bowl watch party. the new parkway theater shows anything from critically acclaimed films to throwback favorites. this sunday the boys in red and gold are taking over as the 49ers hope to deliver an award winning performance. >> it's going to be a lot of fun. it's going to be really crazy. it's going to be a lot of fun. >> it's super bowl sunday. we're dedicating both of our screens to the game. >> reporter: charlie levy with the new parkway theater is expecting more than 300 people for the showing of the super bowl. this place is almost like a home away from home. the resident husky will happily greet you and accepts belly rubs as payments. but unlike being at home, the food is cooked and delivered to your favorite couch. >> it's a homey vibe. we've swapped out theater seats for couches and comfortable chairs
2:09 am
and bean bags. we have a full menu. we have sandwiches and salads and soups and all sorts of things. >> reporter: the unique space doubles as a movie theater and community center. it's that quaint charm that attracts customers. matthew vernon comes here frequently, and loves this option aside from traditional watch parties. >> i don't like to go to bars to watch sports generally. because this is more of a low key place, i like that idea. >> reporter: the price of admission is just $16, and while tickets are going fast, there are still some available. the 49ers have the faithful, and this theater has its own dedicated fans that will be here on game day. >> a lot of people wait to see things here. they know the place, they love it. they say we're not going to see it elsewhere, we want to come and see it here. i think the football game is much the same.
2:10 am
now, this one isn't a watch party exactly, or at all, but we have heard costco is where some people like to watch the game. kind of genius when you think about it. there's huge brand new tvs and samples to snack on. you could also be playing your own games. emporium arcade bar in san francisco is showing the game. their doors open at noon. want to watch outdoors? bay street mall has a pre-game tailgate starting at 1:00. and looking live at the jay center, the faithful will be packing thrive center. that's the official niners watch party where you can go watch it on the big screen. so a lot of people are going to opt for the bars in san francisco. we know that, so does the city. they're trying the prevent post-game issues by closing down streets in the mission and a couple of freeway off ramps. today mayor breed had this message for fans. >> we know people love to go to the mission and get all in the streets, and we want you to
2:11 am
have a good time, but how would you feel if somebody broke your car window? we don't want that. we don't want none of that. so what we're seeing is celebrate, have fun. don't jump on the buses, now. don't get electrocuted from the cables. we don't want none of that. >> steve young and jerry rice, you and the 49ers just won the super bowl, where are you going? >> i'm going to disneyland. >> i'm going to disney world. >> a peaceful night turned loud, ugly, and rowdy in the mission last night. san francisco police enforced a no tolerance policy. >> they're arresting everybody for no reason. >> reporter: there were dozens of arrest including for assault and possession of a concealed
2:12 am
weapon. a much tamer scene at sfo today. alaska airlines had a little party for fans on flight number 13 in honor of brock purdy. >> ready for the super bowl? [ cheering ] >> and even more excitement on this flight chartered by the 49ers themselves. the team is flying 800 full time staff, family, interns, and friends to las vegas. one of the niners playing sunday already has two super bowl rings with another team, and at the start of the season, he probably wasn't expecting to go for another with the red and gold, right matt? >> reporter: that's right, sara. the 49ers will rely on logan ryan on sunday, a proven winner. he's won two super bowls in his career, but at this point he figured that he'd focus on a different kind of championship. >> coaching my kids' soccer team. we were undefeated. only two games left and i had to leave the kids. >> reporter: logan ryan got the call to join the 49ers in late november while he was on a
2:13 am
family cruise. >> i knew that the 49ers were interested at that point. there wasn't any drinking on the cruise, unfortunately. i occupied that gym quite a bit. >> reporter: ryan's transition back into football was so smooth that at least one teammate is skeptical of how easy he made it look. >> i think logan wanted to give y'all a story. there's no way that guy was on a cruise and came back and played like that! i'm calling bluff! >> reporter: he told me he's not so sure you were actually on a cruise with your family. he doesn't buy it fully. >> i was a thousand percent on the a cruise. the disney wish in the bahamas. i'm about to be 33, he's 33. he's more of a, he's more of a sore 33 every day. i'm a young 33. >> reporter: and this week the 33-year-old brought his family to las vegas for another work trip. >> you know, they're excited to come to the super bowl. they ran on the field at the nfc
2:14 am
championship. they're living it through me. they love this team, love debo, love christian. i'm not even their family player anymore. >> reporter: if you win on sunday, are you taking your family on another cruise? >> yeah, i plan on winning mvp and telling the camera we're going back on a disney cruise. and hopefully i can do that and get the drinks that i didn't get last time, get my money's worth this time around. but i think it was worth not drinking on the last cruise to go to the super bowl and maybe get another cruise. >> reporter: i would say so. but i know the next time around, if he does go on the cruise, he's taking advantage of the all inclusive drink tickets. >> yeah, there's no other way on a cruise. otherwise it would just drive you crazy with all those people. matt, stay tuned, don't go anywhere. we appreciate you. we have some breaking news to tell you about out of berkeley on a serious note. uc police just told us a suspect
2:15 am
on campus fired nine shots at about 8:40 this evening. thankfully no one was hit. it happened near the student union at telegraph. hundreds of people were sheltering in the campus performance hall, but uc police tell us the suspect was arrested and the shelter in place has since been lifted. still ahead, the super bowl is such a big deal, the words are used to describe other things that are a big deal. and why are some restaurants in the east bay closing early on what should be the busiest day of the year? plus, while fans are having fun in las vegas, someone has to make sure they're safe. this team is keeping a watchful eye without most people even realizing they're there. one is a former nfl full back, the other is full of nfl facts. what happens when a sports guy challenges a sports pro on the turf. >> at least matt was able to kind of keep up with him. a look outside right now. clear skies overhead in san jose.
2:16 am
temperatures dropping off. we're in for a pleasant super bowl weekend, at least weather-wise, and hopefully otherwise as well. details coming up in the first alert forecast.
2:17 am
tonight more than a dozen sites in san jose are lit up in red and gold for super bowl weekend. just a taste of what we'll see in 2026 when silicon valley hosts super bowl 60. it probably wouldn't be unreasonable to assume super bowl is a huge money maker for bars and restaurants, but some spots in the east bay suburbs told us not so. jack's restaurant and bar in pleasant hill is closing early, an hour before the game starts. they think most people there tend to have parties at home. a manager says very few fans showed up last time the 49ers played the chiefs in super bowl 54, and the gm of sports bar fire house
2:18 am
37 says super bowls usually slow for them too, but they are hoping for a better turnout come sunday. this time last year i was in the personal private home of none other than chief meteorologist paul heggen who had me over for his very spicy swings. >> which you did not have. >> i licked one. >> you did not have the stupid hot wing the rest of us sampled and then regretted basically for the next 364 days. let's look at what's in store weather-wise. plentiful sunshine overhead tomorrow. high pressure taking control in the upper levels of the atmosphere. offshore winds help with that as well. a passing storm system to the north won't send any moisture into the bay area. just passing clouds for the second half of the weekend on super bowl sunday. for now mostly clear skies out there. temperatures are dropping off in the 40s across the board, anywhere from 41 in santa rosa to 49 in san jose and san francisco. those
2:19 am
numbers will continue to drop off throughout the rest of tonight. low to mid-40s around the bay with mid to upper 30s to around 40-degree low temperatures by early saturday morning for inland parts of the bay area. but our temperatures bounce back. if you're headed out to the chinese new year's festival on saturday, temperatures top out close to 60 degrees, where we should be this time of the the year. good dog walking weather as well. get out and exercise your pups during the dry weather. we have a couple of niners dogs in the forecast dressed up for super bowl sunday. piper and lexi can get out and stretch their legs before they overindulge. temperatures in castro valley reaching the low 60s, and low 60s on the map tomorrow afternoon for more of the bay area. 63 in san jose. basically everybody within a degree or two of what's normal for this time of year. everybody within a degree or two of 60 degrees for the most part. right at 60
2:20 am
in oakland and san francisco. but the warmer spots will be in the north bay. low to even some mid-60s on the map for the north bay because of the northerly winds that flow down slope. as the area flows downhill, it's compressed by gravity, and it warms it up by a degree or two. it will impact tomorrow's high temperatures. eventually we are going to see a return to near average temperatures after a bit of a warm up. the ten-day temperature outlook for san jose shows a trip into the 60s wednesday, thursday, and friday. only a couple of degrees above average, but it counts. then down the other side of the temperature roller coaster for president's day weekend. that includes the potential for impactful weather. hopefully not as impactful as sunday and sunday night. but already the extended outlook from the climate prediction center, which looks just behind the seven-day
2:21 am
forecast, shows a high risk of heavy rain for much of california. also the risk of damaging winds as well. so not quite as high risk as the precipitation potential, but still something to watch. in the sierra, already a high risk of heavy snowfall rates for president's day weekend. we're still at the range where all the details are fuzzy at this point because it's so far down the line in the future, but something to keep in mind as you make plans for that holiday president's day weekend. let's check out the seven-day forecast. we'll worry about the stormy pattern when it arrives. in the short term, things looking good. near average temperatures saturday and sunday and to begin next week. then a bit of a warm up with temperatures in the low to mid-60s on a more widespread basis by the middle of next week. a chance of light showers thursday that will mostly fall apart on their way in. temperatures on friday back off by a degree, but a better chance of heavier rain moves in by late friday into next friday night. it's the last day of the seven-day forecast. we have a lot of time between now and
2:22 am
then to watch video highlights of matt lively racing an nfl professional. >> reporter: i did pretty well. that's all i want to say. i did pretty well. coming up in sports, the 49ers ready to take on the chiefs in the super bowl on sunday. as we know, it would not be possible without the cinderella story of brock purdy.
2:23 am
is. check out this time lapse from inside allegiant stadium
2:24 am
in las vegas. rather than rolling out the red carpet, they're rolling in the green field. the whole thing slides in on a giant tray. tray of grass means something different in the bay. i won't get into the reasons why, matt. but you've had a busy day, and i know we're getting closer and closer to the big moment, but there's been a lot going on leading up to it. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely. we're here in vegas. it's been two long weeks where the 49ers have been waiting and itching to get on the field at allegiant stadium to take on the chiefs were but none of this would be possible without the rise of brock purdy. our vern glenn has the story. >> reporter: brock purdy has come a long way from being the last pick in the draft. but his story isn't finished yet. he's one win away from a dream season. >> i wish i was more versed on
2:25 am
fairy tales. >> reporter: brock purdy's road to the super bowl certainly feels like something out of a disney movie. >> cinderella fits him. >> reporter: the 49ers are confident the clock won't strike midnight at the super bowl. >> he's really good. >> reporter: the treasure this time would be the lombardi trophy and finally silencing any remaining critics. >> i call him the rodney dangerfield of quarterbacks. >> no respect. >> reporter: but win or lose, purdy is still unlikely to get any respect for one part of his game. >> yeah, i'm not a flashy guy for sure. it's pretty simple. my fiancée and i go through our outfits the day before the game and say wear this. people roast my outfits.
2:26 am
>> reporter: if he beats patrick mahomes brock can where whatever he wants. >> reporter: sara tries to give me fashion and outfit advice all the time, and it's a bit too bold for me. i feel like i understand brock purdy quite a bit when it comes to fashion. >> i was going to say, i mean, i wasn't sure if i should say it, but you guys definitely shop at the same kohl's. we still love you matt. thank you so much. >> reporter: i think i lost you sara, but i'm just going to assume you complimented my outfit. >> even without the ear piece, he knows. join us tomorrow night at 7:00 for a special super bowl eve edition of the red and gold report live from las vegas. and of course we are your home for the super bowl on sunday. catch it here on kpix and streaming on paramount plus. if fans want to see how security is keeping the stadium safe, they just have to look up. we take a ride in the sky
2:27 am
with homeland security.
2:28 am
all week long we've been reporting on the ground in las vegas. tonight we take you into the skies above the strip. max darrow hitched a ride with homeland security. >> reporter: cleared for take off, and all systems are go. and this u.s. customs and border protection air and marine operations as-350 helicopter is up in the air.
2:29 am
they took us on a flight across las vegas ahead of their weekend security mission as eyes in the sky for the super bowl. >> we're up here to increase situational awareness. what sandra is doing over here, she's looking at the stadium, and we can transmit that to an instant command center. >> reporter: they're keeping an eye out for the unexpected or have eyes on certain areas they're directed to. >> the world is so dynamic and the threat is so diverse that it's hard to categorize what we're looking for. >> reporter: super bowl security takes an extensive amount of interagency support at the local, state, and federal level. that's why homeland security is involved. so this team will be up in the air before, during, and after the game, and they're not alone either. they'll be flying over the stadium during the super bowl with several black hawk helicopters as well. the faa will issue a tfr for
2:30 am
much of super bowl sunday, effectively a no fly zone centered for the stadium with a ten mile core. if someone flies in. >> that will trigger a response from our black hawk helicopters. they'll try to intercept that aircraft and direct it to land at an airport. >> reporter: providing security for essential events like the super bowl is part of cbp's mission, something these agents take pride in. >> it feels good to go to bad at night knowing we did the best we can to keep the american people safe. >> it's part of the fabric of america, events like this, where we can all come together and celebrate together and support that we can do it safely. we take tremendous pride in being a part of a team that does their best to afford that opportunity. >> reporter: and when it comes time for the teams to hit the field on sunday, this team will be ready to hit the skies above. >> on your marks, go! a test of strength and
