hello, i'm sara donchey. incredibly tragic story tonight out of san mateo, a welfare check at a family home ended up with a gruesome discovery inside. we were told about the disturbing sound they heard right before they heard police sirens. >> reporter: investigators have been here for more than 12 hours. questions in this quiet community are mounting into what exactly led to the deaths of these four individuals. ron has lived in this sleepy neighborhood along time. he says crime is not usually top of mind. >> we lived here 27 years, raised a daughter here, used to play at the park down the street. it is not coming you ever think about. >> reporter: that changed monday morning when four people including two 4-year-old children were found dead in their home. investigators have been tight lipped about what

happened. neighbors, like ron, are shocked. >> when you hear it is an entire family, mother, father, two minor children, your mind goes to a place of what tragic event happened. >> reporter: the police said someone called them asking to check the home here. when they got there around 9:15 this morning they found all four people dead inside. neighbors say they heard what sounded like gunshots before then, but the police would not talk about the adults or children who died and did not say if or how they are related. >> we have not ruled out anything. that is why we are here and we are doing everything we can to rule out or confirm or do anything. everything under investigation. we will stay here until we get the questions answered. >> the police insist they are not searching for suspects, there is no threat to the public. long time neighbors like kathy walked down the street almost every day. likely will never look at it the same way. >> i think that is the house,

they decorate it for halloween. >> reporter: the police were clear what did happen was both unusual and awful. >> horrible and tragic call. not many people get calls like this and have to respond to this. so, this is not a normal call for anyone. it is tragic for the family, the community, the officers, everyone involved. >> reporter: the officials have hours of video and phone records to comb through to piece together what led to the deaths of the four people. i am told the autopsies of the four individuals is expected to take place on tuesday when we can expect to learn more about their identities. >> about 50 people are trapped along the big sur coast because landslides cut them off from the rest of the world. no way in, no way out, without serious help. crews were fixing the landslides, last week, two more blocking highway 1, keeping people from going north and south. caltrans has been helping people and supplies

going in and out of the area. much farther south, another landslide looks like it almost took out multimillion dollar mansions these giant houses in dana point seem like they are tettering off of the cliff. but actually it looks worse than it is. the city says the houses are not in any danger of falling down and they say they will not be red tagged. okay monday's usually hurt. the one after a super bowl loss like the 9ers suffered yesterday that is painful. we saw the players land in san jose today, they were bussed back to levi's stadium, that is where we were talking to fans who came out to show their support re gardless of the final score. >> reporter: fans gathered for the home coming, several admitted it was hard to get up on this, the morning after their team's devastating super bowl loss. >> i have to get up for my

kids. i came back home, had to lay down again. i was under my sheets, honestly. i was under my sheets, man, feeling sick to my stomach. >> reporter: ken, who still wanted to make some noise was just back from a 9ers tailgate party he organized in vegas. a party that ended in despair. the game was a roller coaster ride of emotions, the highest of the highs when the 49ers scored a touchdown. then, the torture of watching a lead disappear and the dagger to the heart on the final play of the game. >> we came so close. no cigar. man, no winner again in the

son carter after lil wayne. a trucker's dash camera was caught when a jet went down on a florida highway. when a crime happens it is up to the police to put the pieces together and the criminals that pulled a weird caper literally gave them kits. a little bit of fog forming in the distance as we look out from salesforce tower, thicken up through the rest of the night. bigger changes in store later this week. i am tracking our next rain chances in the first alert forecast. >> thank you, paul. an overlooked effect of super bowl sunday making someone call for a new national holiday.

. a trucker's dash camera caught the moment a jet slammed into a busy florida highway and burst into flames. last week, two pilots tried to make an emergency landing when they crashed into the highway and hit a car. the pilots were killed. the plane's three passengers, though, survived.

apparently the person in the car they hit also survived. the final call from the cockpit said the plane lost both of its engines before the crash. in michigan a pilot is lucky to be alive after his plane took a nosedive in the woods. the plane ended up getting stuck in the trees as you see. the pilot says a gust of wind caused his wing to dip and get caught in a branch. hard to believe looking at the video. he got out on his own and was not hurt. back here in the bay, a watery mess in san francisco after a public works truck smashed into a hydrant near civic center. water was shooting in the air like a fountain. part of the station had to be shutdown for awhile while the city cleaned it all up. a motorcyclist flying down the highway and going through traffic could not out run the chp helicopter. it followed him all of the way front.

right? the next chance of rain is 48 hours away. enjoy a dry day tomorrow. driveway weather today, passing clouds out there. the next system is out over the pacific and sending cloud cover over the bay area tomorrow and rain chances returning on wednesday. that t is a couple days away. enjoy tomorrow. clouds over san jose tomorrow, that is keeping the temperatures from dropping too far. it is the warm spot on the map at 52 degrees, one degree behind in san francisco and other temperatures running in the. we should all be in the 40s starting the day with dense fog tomorrow morning, the temperatures near slightly above average, and we are going to warm up despite the increase in cloud cover to basically normal temperatures by tuesday afternoon. take a look at where we end up during the afternoon hours and pretty much everyone's temperatures within a couple degrees of average, mostly within a couple degrees on either side of 60. the warmer locations, 63 degrees, lower 60s common in the santa

clara valley and inland. tied, antioch, 63 degrees, a few spots, cooler, 57, just below 60 degrees in san francisco and oakland. but it is normally cool. numbers are one degree below average and the temperatures around 60 degrees for the north bay as well. even with the increasing rain chances on wednesday, heading into presidents' day weekend the temperatures will not change much. we will still run close to what is normal for the second month of the year. but, rain chances have our attention heading into the weekend first, a less impactful system will be heading our way by wednesday and wednesday night. so, we are going to see the increase in cloud cover tomorrow, sunshine peaking through, there is a chance that a little bit of moisture is going to make a run through the north bay tomorrow night. most evaporating on the way down. outside chance of a shower. the best chance, moving in as we head into wednesday afternoon. brief heavier downpours, seeing yellow on the

future cast. indicating heightened rainfall rates, these will not last nearly as long as a couple of atmospheric rivers we had to start the month of february. seeing how fast we are moving through. the bulk of the steadiest rain, lingering off and on showers, heading through the rest of the evening and wednesday night with the couple's pop up showers still possible on thursday. those are going to be relatively few and far between. how much rain are we expecting in a rain event not associated with an atmospheric river. 1/10th of an inch and a quarter inch of rainfall. some other locations picking up half an inch of total rain not enough to lead to the flooding throughout. we do have a much more significant chance of rain in the forecast for presidents' day weekend. a couple of back to back low end atmospheric rivers coming our way and the long-range forecast models, they are good agreements, sometimes we show you the side by side forecast models to point it out and how

they are handling the timing, the intensity, this time, showing, they are really in remarkablily good agreement with the rain coming in saturday, saturday evening, a brief break in the action to start the day on sunday and another surge of moisture will be moving in sunday evening and overnight and continuing into presidents' day on monday. so, this will be something that we have to keep our eyes on over the next several days, calm conditions for the moment, let's enjoy the additional dry day. another one of those down-the-line in the seven-day forecast. let's check it out. we go from rain showers on wednesday to maybe a couple lingering pop up showers on thursday. here is our additional dry day on friday to finish off the workweek. then, we get into the longer stretch of wet weather. not just the last three days of the seven-day forecast. saturday, sunday, presidents' day on monday, if we had eight or nine day forecast it is likely tuesday and wednesday of next week would include good chances of rain and the longer the rain lasts, it falls on saturated ground the more it increases

it is official, yesterday's super bowl was the most watched ever. record 123.4 million viewers caught the game right here on cbs. sounds like a lot. but, that is not even 20% of the biggest tv audience ever happened back in 1969 when 650 million people watched apollo 11 land on the moon. now time has come to turn
