the race for san francisco mayor is getting even more crowded and the latest candidate to throw his name and has been there before. who he says he would fire if he gets the job. we are moving toward several storms this week. we are timing out the back-to-back atmospheric rivers in this first alert weather. a bay area doctor is heading into a war zone to help patients. he and his family say the risk is necessary. we are there for the emotional send

off. thank you for joining us this afternoon. there is a new but familiar face in the san francisco mayor's race and he is hoping to unseat his successor. anne makovec joins us now with this story and other headlines. it is getting interesting. former interim san francisco mayor mark farrell just announced he is running for the city's top job. the board of supervisors, you might remember, appointed farrell as acting mayor back in 2018 after the death of ed lee . he served for six months until voters elected london breed to take over. farrell did not run in a special election but now he says , if he becomes mayor, he plans to get rid of the police chief, bill scott, and hire someone who is, quote, more aggressive. >> public safety has never been a bigger concern. the conditions of our streets have never been worse. i believe i am the only candidate with the right experience, the right policies and most importantly, a track record of effective leadership inside of city hall. >> farrell joins a growing list

of candidates including london made. also running is supervisor ahsha safaí and philanthropist daniel lurie. san mateo police just released new details about the four people found dead inside a home yesterday. they say the two children were found inside of the bedroom. their cause of death is still under investigation. the man and woman were dead with gunshot wounds inside a bathroom. a gun and loaded magazine were also found in the bathroom. at 30 major airports including sfo, thousands of frustrated flight attendants are rallying today. they are demanding pay, retirement benefits and flexible schedules. the unions want flight attendants to be paid for all of their time working. since right now, most are not compensated for their time spent waiting between flights in the airport. >> most of us are in contract negotiations right now. we need to have progress. some of us have not had raises for the last five years and it is

important to show our solidarity. all airlines are in the same boat. we need a livable wage . we need to be paid for all the hours we are at work. >> sfo says the demonstration is not impacting airport operations. one of the airlines, american, is confident they will reach a new agreement with flight attendants soon. the 49ers back at levi's stadium today to clean out their lockers after super bowl lviii. they are now going to have the separate ways for the off-season but sunday is launch will be -- loss is one they will have to live with for lifetime. >> you understand that the only thing you can do is use this fuel to propel us forward. that is where the mindsets are at, or at least where they will arrive at some point. right now, there is a lot of people who are hurt.

>> more positive sports news, the san francisco giants adding a power hitter to their roster. the chronicle reporting it as a three-year bill with free agent outfielder jorge soler hit 36 home runs for the miami marlins in 2023. and , jenny cavnar will become the a's lead play-by-play announcer. that makes her the first woman in major league baseball history to serve in that primary role . she was previously backup by play announcer for the colorado rockies, spending 12 seasons there. >> love it. thank you. let's get to first alert weather. we are looking ahead to multiple chances of rain in the next few days. here is meteorologist darren peck. >> the main rain is getting here saturday. there is a system coming before that on wednesday that we need to look at. just to set the stage for what is coming our way, we have

to look at the pacific. you can see the wednesday rainmaker right here but back here, there are others lining up and i just want you to watch this big view first. right after that, by the time we have gotten toward late friday, saturday's rain is waiting right here. there is another one after that. we will get to that when in a second. here is the wednesday rain. it is really late early evening tomorrow afternoon and you can see how this has pretty good rain with it. even though this will not be terribly long-lasting, when the line comes through, this system will have the ability to drop some pretty good rain. we will time that out. it gets down to the golden gate, right through the evening commute. this is the most important part about the wednesday rain. it will come right through the bay. it

slowly works its way down to the south bay, starting to clear by the time we have got into the midnight hours. there might be a few stragglers on wednesday but there is not much to this on thursday. it is what we looked at coming right across through the heart of wednesday with a focus on the evening commute. rainfall totals in the north bay . nothing to sneeze at but not the kind of rain that would raise any flooding concerns. it is also not going to be terribly windy with this one. when we look at the rainfall totals from the city south, we put a quarter inch of rain. that covers the first system. you get a break mostly for thursday and friday and then saturday, that next one comes in. we are going to come in for the second storm. that is a long stretch heading down toward the sub tropic. that is a category 1 or category 2 atmospheric river feeding into it and it will be with us

mainly throughout the day on saturday. the next two systems, this first one and the one after it still need a little more time to play out in the models before we start trying to pin down exact timing and exact locations. the best way to watch saturday's rain is at this scale. it starts in the morning and takes us through the day. by the time we get to sunday, that line should move past. maybe a little bit of a break on sunday and then the next system comes in. that one is a lot trickier. if we watch this one, it starts on sunday. it is going to sit there for a few days and spin. it is not going to go exactly like that. those systems can be notoriously difficult to nail down. we will give that one a little more time before we start going to the bank on numbers but here is the saturday rainfall. remember, this will be for most of the day on saturday. both of the long-range models are showing

that same model. saturday is raining again. it will be breezy but not terribly windy. then, the next one comes together from sunday, perhaps into tuesday. this is not exact. maybe a quick look ahead. there is a system out there focused on sunday and tuesday. the possibilities range wildly right now but we can see several inches of rain across that several day period. let's look at it in a 7-day forecast. we can see that first system showing up here wednesday, middle of the day, thursday. any rain is done by 10:00 in the morning. saturday, a system comes in all day. sunday, late sunday until who knows when but plan on sunday and monday at this point. we will have more on that as it develops. >> thank you. a bay area doctor is

risking his own life to offer help to those in gaza. he is headed into the war-torn region where the explosions continue. as our kenny choi reports, he has the blessing of his wife and young children. >> these are the final moments together for dr. mohammad subeh and his family before he embarks on an uncertain and dangerous five-week medical mission to gaza. >> if i am not going to do a, who will do a? >> subeh came to the us as a palestinian refugee when he was seven years old. he is a stanford educated emergency room doctor who has been looking to join a nongovernmental organization offering medical aid in the ever-growing humanitarian crisis. >> the heart really hurts right now. i am hoping that me going there and being able to help out is a way to alleviate some of that hurt or feel like i am doing something.

the cdc may soon be relaxing its guidance on covid-19 isolation. the washington post reports starting this spring, the agency may no longer require isolation if you have been fever free for 24 hours with mild or improving symptoms. the updated guidance would bring covid-19 in line with guidance for other respiratory viruses like the flu. last month, california relaxed its recommendations for covid,

saying people who test positive for the virus but do not have any symptoms are allowed to return to work and school. thousands of drivers for uber , lyft and doordash are expected to strike tomorrow and valentine's day. they have accused the companies of taking a huge cut as commissions. the drivers always take home at least 70% of fares after fees. uber says the company offers flexibility for drivers to earn money when and where they choose. you are never too young to learn about black excellence and also to celebrate it and every other week, a parent volunteer at a san francisco elementary school helps guide kids and those lessons. our max darrow has his story. >> laughter mixed in with learning and business around
