trump from intimidating witnesses ahead of his criminal trial related to hush money payments to a former porn star. trump's attorneys are calling this election interference. with more on this, here's cbs's scott macfarlane. >> reporter: with less than a month of the first ever criminal trial of a former president, the manhattan district attorney alvin bragg wants the defendant gagged. he's charged donald trump with illegal hush money payments to adult film star stormy daniels. he wants the former president barred from commenting about jurors, witnesses, court staff, and brag's staff. >> it's election interference at the highest level. >> reporter: bragg cited hundreds of threats made to his office related to trump's public attacks against him. one of the most notable was a letter with a small amount of white powder with a note saying, alvin, i'm going to kill you. meanwhile in l.a.x., a former

fbi agent alexander smirnov appeared in court in california. he was in an orange jumpsuit. federal judge otis wright ordered him to jail pending trial saying he's a risk to fleeing the country. smirnov has access to $6 million, duel citizenship including israel and contacts that could help him flee. smirnov's attorneys plan to appeal. >> it's our intention to seek relief in the ninth circuit. >> reporter: he's charged with making false statements to fbi agents including the energy firm bur's ma that paid president biden and hunter biden $5 million each. >> even a trusted fbi informant has alleged a bribe to the biden family. >> reporter: president biden said the impeachment probe should be dropped given smirnov's indictment.

>> he is lying and it should be dropped, and it's just been an outrageous effort from the beginning. >> reporter: republicans insist they'll plow ahead with an impeachment inquiry. they'll plunge into an all-day closed-door deposition on wednesday. they say this is just an effort to boost donald trump. breaking overnight, possible progress toward a temporary cease-fire in gaza. during an appearance on nbc's "late night with seth meyers," president biden said israel is ready to halt its war with hamas and gaza during the upcoming fasting month of ramadan. he said that's only if a deal is reached to release hostages. that's if it can be reached days away. meanwhile netanyahu talks about his planned invasion of rafah

where more than half the population has taken shelter. netanyahu says there is a plan to evacuate civilians from areas of fighting but not sharing any more details. newly released police body camera video is now offering a disturbing glimpse into the shooting at joel osteen's megachurch in houston earlier this month. as janet shamlian reports, authorities are still trying to determine the shooter's motive. >> reporter: we're hearing for the first time the sounds of terror inside a place of worship. explosions of gunfire as a woman threatens authorities inside the televangelist's joel osteen's lakewood church. >> put the weapon down! put the weapon down! >> did she say she has a bomb? there's a bomb. >> put the weapon down! >> reporter: houston police releasing off-duty body cam video who ran into the face of danger two weeks ago, taking down the woman who came into the church with a rifle and her 7-year-old son.

she was killed. he was slot in the head, but the danger remains. >> the shooter is down. she looks like she has something strapped on her chest. >> we need a bomb squad. >> reporter: officials say they decided to release these videos for transparency. >> it's important to note we're in the early stages and we continue to review the evidence as it is collected and analyzed. >> reporter: but one thing already stands out amid the horror there was humanity. this officer trying to comfort the badly wounded 7-year-old with chaos all around. that boy is still fighting for his life two weeks after the shooting here at houston's lakewood church. authorities haven't confirmed whether the security officers responding shot the child, saying it remains an active investigation. janet shamlian, cbs news,

testified that lyrics taken from him were personal. henley testified in a new york courtroom yesterday in the criminal trial of three men. they're accused of conspiring to own and attempting to sell millions of dollars of allegedly stolen notes and handwritten draft lyrics to "hotel california" and other hits. prosecutors say the material was stolen decades ago from a barn on henley's organic farm in california. the men have pleaded not guilty. and "the wall street journal" says a billion-dollar gift will cover the cost of tuition for all students at a new york city medical school. >> i'm happy to share with you that starting in august this year, the albert einstein college of medicine will be tuition-free. >> former professor and board trust tee ruth gotteson an

the companies plan to challenge the ftc. family dollar stores have pleaded guilty to holding consumer products in a rodent-infested warehouse in arkansas. the department of justice released a statement on monday says family dollar admitted to keeping food, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics in the unsanitary conditions. family dollar must now pay $41.6 million. you'll need a lot more than faith to get your hands on the michael george coins. the coin released by britain's royal mint has an image from his 1987 "faith" video and ranges in price from aurjds $20 to more than $6,700. it's the latest edition of the legend series. that's your "cbs moneywatch" report for this tuesday morning. i'm carissa lawson, cbs news, new york. a member of europe's rothschild banking industry has died.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities across the country. the fate of an american couple missing at sea in the caribbean appears grim. police say grenada police believe ralph hendry and kathy brandel were thrown overboard and died after their catamaran was hijacked last week by three escaped prisoners. >> information suggests that while traveling between grenada and st. vincent they disposed of the occupants. >> their catamaran was found three days after they were reported missing on february 18th, abandoned on a st. vincent beach. the three escaped prisoners were taken back into custody on st.
