the biden administration's harshest comments yet calling on israel for not doing enough to ease the humanitarian crisis in gaza. and history on the hardwood. a record-breaking day for iowa's caitlin clark. good morning, and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. no rest for storm-weary california as folks try to dig out from a powerful blizzard. another storm is bearing down on the state. this second weaker storm is expected to bring up to an additional two feet of snow in the sierra-nevada. the weekend blizzard brought whiteout conditions, hurricane-force winds, and dumped more than seven feet in some places. travel has been treacherous and life threatening. a major road was shut down. carter evans has latest from truckee, california. >> reporter: blizzard and avalanche warnings are being extended in the sierra-nevada as one life-threatening storm moves out, another storm is about to

move in. key roads around lake tahoe are off limits, too dangerous for drivers, and snowplows can't keep up. >> it's been hectic. i've broken a lot of parts. >> reporter: the california highway patrol cleared the last of the big rigs stuck on interstate 80, the main road to tahoe. on friday night they say there were about 200 to 300 cars and nearly 100 big rigs trapped. officers even bought snacks for the stranded motorists. this is what many locals found -- now the big dig-out begins. and while rain and sleet may not stop the post office, this time the snow did. these delivery trucks were buried. even with snow drifts almost as tall as i am here in downtown truckee, for many folks here they're used to this, and it's pretty much business as usual. that includes truckee book store owner andie keith. we're in the middle of a blizzard, why are you open? >> a day like this, there's no better time to read a book. we might as well be open. >> reporter: the economy is fueled i do tourism.

more than 15 million people visit each year and spend more than $5 billion. while many people look outside and see white, business owners here see green. what is all this snow going to do for business once the storm clears? >> once the storm clears, we will be crazy busy. >> reporter: carter evans, cbs news, truckee, california. strong words from vice president kamala harris demanding israel allow more humanitarian aid into gaza and calling on hamas to accept a possible cease-fire and hostage deal. it comes as an israeli government official is in washington for meetings today. talks are continuing in egypt to broker a deal before ramadan begins next week. israel did not send a delegation as it awaits word from hamas on which hostages are still alive. cbs' naomi ruchim is joining us with the latest on all of this happening in the middle east. good morning. >> good morning. a top u.s. official is saying a deal is on the table and could begin as soon as today, but now

it's on hamas to agree to the terms. the last one-week cease-fire was back in november and brought home about 100 hostages. this reported deal would be much longer and allow for a significant increase in aid to civilians in gaza. >> there must be an immediate cease-fire. >> reporter: strong words from vice president kamala harris as she gets set to meet with israeli war cabinet member benny gantz in washington today. the meeting comes as a u.s. official tells cbs news israel has essentially endorsed a framework agreement that could include a six-week pause in fighting and the release of some hostages. >> there is a deal on the table. hamas needs to agree to that deal. >> reporter: saturday the u.s. air dropped about 38,000 meals into gaza, though critics say it's not nearly enough to stave off starvation. the biden administration says it's the first of many airdrops, and it has also called on israel

to do more to allow humanitarian assistance into gaza. >> they must work to restore basic services. >> reporter: israel's defense officials said it had eliminated 100 militants from gaza in an operation sunday. after strikes in southern gaza, rescuers called out the names of those believed to be trapped beneath the rubble. also sunday idf officials announced that their review found that the deaths of more than 100 palestinians who had gathered to receive aid in gaza city last week were mostly the result of a stampede, and that israeli forces only fired warning shots in self-defense. though some hamas-backed officials say the crowd was fired upon. a u.s. official says the next airdrop of food into gaza is expected to come on wednesday. if this latest cease-fire proposal goes through, the hostages to be released are said to include the sick, wounded, elderly, and women. it's unclear how many could be

returned to their families under the new deal, but israeli officials believe about 100 hostages are still alive in hamas captivity. anne-marie? >> all right. thank you very much. well, we could get a decision from the supreme court today on whether former president trump can be kicked off the 2024 colorado ballot. the high court announced one opinion will be released today, and while not specifying what it is, it comes just one day before the colorado primary as part of super tuesday. trump is appealing the state's supreme court decision that would ban him from among likely

voters. here's cbs' skyler henry. over past week, we've been sort of in a rocket. we've been launching like a rocket to the republican nomination. >> reporter: former president trump drew crowds during his campaign rally in richmond, virginia, saturday. primary voters there and in 15 other states will head to the polls for sturz. a critical moment as trump and president trump are the overwhelming front-runners to earn their party's nominations. last week both the former president and biden clashed in texas as border policy tops a mounting list of political hot-button issues. >> instead of playing politics with the issue, why don't we get together and get it done. >> reporter: as the pathsway for a rematch becomes clear, voters said it's trump's presidency that fared better than mr. biden's so far. a new cbs news poll shows 46% of

registered voters remember the trump-era presidency as excellent or good, compared to president biden's 33%. largely based on the state of the economy. both campaigns are focusing their messaging on that, and also other key areas including reproductive rights, foreign aid, and the crisis at the u.s.-mexico border. >> we need congress to have a spine, do its job, work for the american people. >> reporter: president biden is expected to reiterate that call to action when he delivers his state of the union address to congress this thursday. looking ahead to the state of the union address, we know that the president is expected to tout his administration's accomplishments over the last three years while also talking about the strong economy and the administration's ability to lower everything from that to drug prices, as well. from there he's expected to hit the ground running in terms of the campaign trail. the president will be stopping in two battleground states, pennsylvania and georgia.

"the atlanta journal-constitution" reports a teenager was shot and wounded by police outside the six flags over georgia amusement park. the state bureau of investigations says cobb counties officers were assisting with crowd control near the entrance saturday after several fights broke out. officials say multiple people began shooting, hitting an unoccupied patrol car.
