seeing is tuesday's returns will win. let's start with breaking news. in san francisco, pg&e reporting a power outage in the city's japantown area. this is the current outage map . we understand about 1500 customers are affected. as we customers vented frustrations in a special meeting over unexpected outages in the city. at the time the utility blamed weather and old infrastructure for many blackouts. power is expected to be restored by 10:45 this morning. we are making the calls and watching. we will break into this broadcast and let you know when we get updates. breaking now. sweden is officially joining nato is the 32nd member of the transatlantic military alliance. the move and is decades of post-world war ii neutrality and it comes a response to concerns about russian aggression and the invasion of ukraine. we will watch that closely. that is a major thing on the geopolitical landscape. a man in san jose has been arrested after he was accused of killing two people and injuring a third by firing into a crowd gathering for a visual. he is smiling in the mugshot.

in mid february near story in south white roads. police say group was gathered to remember someone else who died. when the gunfire erupted. they arrested this man, one carlos perez on friday. we do not know a motive. another blue to downtown san francisco. a store will close. according to sf gate. the outdoor apparel supplier now joins a growing list of retailers closing up shop in and around the union square. was recently at macy's. now the only other north face outpost in the bay area are in santa clara, berkeley, walnut creek and palo alto. the company launched in north beach in 1966 as a mail-order company and a retail company selling rockclimbing and camping gear. this is a loss for the area. we reached out to north face for comment but so far we have heard nothing back. a live look at san francisco where mayor london breed is looking at that in dealing with that while also preparing for her state of the city address . she will likely

highlight her accomplishments later this morning. briefcases challenges who want her office in november. they want the keys to her office and they want to be the new mayor. we expect she will have more to say on public safety initiatives that voters relate on tuesday. let's drill down on some of the public safety wins. wilson walker with a story that shows the vote count on public and police issues, has a lot to say about the political polls of san francisco. >> i think there is a good chance we see a couple changes. hopefully property can hold on and i think the dccc candidates, probably have a little bit of mixing in the middle of the pack. >> reporter: even with changes it was a big night for steve buss director of grow sf, and one of the architects of a string of victories for san francisco's moderate democrats . >> i actually don't feel like

it was us that if it was the election, it was the voters and it was us responding to the voters. >> reporter: the set of victories was highly the beginning of something for the city's moderates, this is now a pattern, going on two years. >> november, 2020, we basically lost everything and we had the school board recall and got the chesa boudin recall. we got matt dorsey and brooke jenkins. and now we've got the democratic party and we've got prop d and f. >> whether you are the school board, da, democratic party members, they are throwing you out. the question is, will the mayor of the supervisors be next? >> reporter: what can the march event tell us about november. we ran into an assembly member matt haney at city hall and the former supervisor offered a candid take on the elections implications, starting with the mayor's office. >> with all respect to my friend , ahsah safari. part b got crushed. i don't know what aaron peskin's narrative is ,

if he gets in the race. you the democratic party that is controlled by the moderate faction that will endorse all the more moderate candidates in november. which means likely some trouble for conning. some trouble for dean. >> a grassroots campaign must mobilize. >> reporter: supervisor connie chan a progressive up for election in district 1, pointed to low turnout and she also tied the results and the cities shifting politics to national political trends. >> i am saying there are political opportunists. they are taking the trend and they are taking seeing the political wind and they are grabbing onto it and turning that into something else in san francisco. >> reporter: does your group plan to endorse somebody for the mayor? >> we will definitely make endorsements for mail but we will wait until after the filing deadline. >> reporter: the deadline is in june and plenty of time to let the results shake out and digest them. if you look over the last year that the trend appears to be set in san

francisco. as the city approaches a very high-stakes election in november. >> it is not over. election officials have to process more than 110,000 ballots and they expect to release those this afternoon. links to update election results populating by the minute on kpix.com. let's take a live look at the nation's capital. president biden is getting ready to deliver the state of the union address tonight. the president has become his party's presumptive nominee as he prepares to take on donald trump who dominated in his primary battles. during this election year, biden's presidential address is now strategy for setting the narrative. setting up the conversations you will see in the debates like the economy, immigration, the wars in ukraine and the humanitarian crisis and war in gaza. we know you in the bay have major message to the president loud and clear during his recent

visit. you may remember last year while president biden was in san francisco for the apec conference, people block traffic on the bay bridge for hours. last month protesters were waiting for the president outside the fairmont hotel in san francisco where he was staying. super tuesday the president spoke on these issues foreshadowing the position that he may take on hamas and israel tonight. >> i was just saying that. it is in the deal is in the hands of hamas. there has been a rational offer . israelis have agreed to it. waiting to see what hamas does. >> you can watch the state of the union address live on kpix and streaming on cbs news bay area starting at 6:00 p.m. tonight. activists got loud on the peninsula. outside of menlo park bookstore that the governor visited. they rallied up front demanding a call for a cease-fire in gaza. >> protesters got close to the governor's security detail while they rallied right outside of kepler's bookstore. the war between israel and hamas is approaching month six. after three days of cease-fire talks, there is no breakthrough to report. u.s. families affected by the conflict are speaking out about it. yesterday, more than a dozen family members of americans held hostage stood with members of congress. they are calling for the hostages immediate release. as the situation in gaza grows more desperate by the hours, it is are impossible for aid to get it according to the new york times. one of the people working day and night to help is the er physician from the south bay and we spoke to dr. mohammad subeh before he traveled to gaza a few weeks ago. knowing full well he might not return home. streaming at 9:30 we will catch up with him and see what he is seeing in gaza daily. we also have a lot more to get to a 9:00. a home apparently rigged to explode steps away from a local school.

a gilroy man is under arrest in a disturbing series of events that could have ended in a catastrophic explosions away from an elementary school. one of the incidents was a car crash that police say uncovered an ar-15 in the man . kelsi thorud will show

you what happened two days before this that has a lot of parents upset. >> i think a big problem with the lack of communication and parents were not hearing much of anything earlier in the week. >> reporter: brandon is one of several parents worried about the safety of their children in the aftermath of a string of strange crimes , allegedly committed by a man who just days earlier and tried to enter an elementary school. >> it makes us feel like we are not doing our best job to protect our kids and maybe the school may not be doing their job as well. >> reporter: according to gilroy police, 46-year-old marcus beck was arrested last week for a dui hit-and-run. as officers were arresting him they say they found a loaded gun in his drivers compartment, and loaded ar-15 in his trunk. two days prior to that arrest, police say a recalled to the elementary, after staff said beck tried to

enter the school and loaded outside the building. >> when officers arrived on scene, he lived close by to the campus. and made contact with him. >> reporter: after the dui arrest and learning about the soliciting, police obtained a restraining order to seize his firearms. when they arrived at his house, police say had been to be trapped. the gas stove had been turned on and the house was at risk of exploding. >> we had the gilroy fire department to secure the resident to continue service the gun violence restraining order. the school was put on lockdown. >> reporter: firefighters were able to clear the scene with no injuries. and the lockdown at the school was lifted. brandon says the whole series of events , has shaken the community. so much so, the school held an emergency meeting last friday. >> i feel like they are doing the best that they can, given the situation. changes don't happen overnight.

>> reporter: brandon said the school has already put up a temporary fence around the campus . and is also added more security on site during the day. he says what happened here is a sad reminder of the threats out there and should prompt local officials to take more proactive steps to keep their children safe. >> it is easy to forget the incidences that have been happening around the country. until it hits home it is easy to be busy and forget that we need to take care of our kids and make sure they are safe when they go to school. it is another cool and cloudy day for us in the bay area but unlike yesterday we are done with the rain. yesterday we saw over an inch of rainfall near malaga and we got a quarter of an inch in san

rafael and san jose topped off just around the half an inch of rain which is impressive with the thunderstorms we saw yesterday. today it is mild. we have some gusty conditions along the coast. wind speeds anywhere to 30 miles per hour expected in areas like pacifica, half moon bay, stretching into bodgea bay. inland areas of light later. no big deal with the forecast heading into this afternoon. we are seeing high clouds passing to the south. all throughout the afternoon and evening hours tonight. suddenly we have sunny skies for friday, which is beautiful. match that with the daytime highs a little bit warmer compared to what we have been dealing with a week. tomorrow we had the upper 60s. and we are waiting for the cold front to move in for saturday and that will coalesce right back down and it will give us a splash of showers into the afternoon and that could impact outdoor activities. giants fanfest happening at oracle park on saturday, if you are planning on heading out, grab an umbrella or maybe you will buy a new one that says giants all over it, we expect upper 50s into the lunch time. we will hold on tight to the upper 50s lasting into the afternoon all throughout the bay area. or throughout the peninsula. as

we look at the sunday forecast we have unsettled weather on the way. this is your family reminder to set the clocks forward because this is the time of year where we have to do that. back in the bay today, all throughout the bay we expect low 60s and the forecast from san francisco across that beautiful bay bridge with cloudy skies over into oakland all the way into the santa clara valley. low 60s and the forecast with the upper 50s along the coastline near half moon bay. it is jacket weather but you could shed the layers heading into the forecast tomorrow. we are expecting sunny skies tomorrow , upper 60s and the forecast for inland areas and here we go into our saturday set up and you know we will see the passing showers and it will clear up into the evening hours into sunday's forecast , with more showers and the forecast. it clears up monday and we have more unsettled weather by tuesday. a back and forth but we will keep you updated with the rainfall totals. we finally have a grocery store that is close and our community. besides having to go up the freeway five or 10 miles away. it means everything to us. >> it means everything. and now a need is filled in the north

headquarters . the iconic clothing company said it is part of the plan to trim up to 15% of its global workforce over the next two years. the cuts will take place by the end of april. the company called the layoffs difficult but necessary. levi's has been based in san francisco since 1863. let's take a live look at bay area airports this morning. if you taking off in the near future expect to see a team of tsa agents greeting you before you go through security. that may not always be the case. you are seeing video of las vegas, harry reid international airport where they are testing a new self-service security process . it is in her system that at the transportation security administration's list of growing companies and organizations trying to replace people with machines and automation. passages agreed to buy these remote agents on a screen and they use automated bag screenings . tsa said the new approach is meant to the passengers go at their own pace through the lines. the agency added that the system only requires eight agents , which
